April 16, 1912 - January 13, 2007

Mary G. Watson, age 94, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on January 13, 2007 at Tendercare Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday January 16, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Samuel Reith officiating, Interment follows at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends gathered with the family on Monday January 15, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home.
The family suggested memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church, Hospice of Central Michigan and Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Mary was born on April 16, 1912 in Seville Twp. Perry County, Pennsylvania the daughter of Daniel W. and Emma (Bixler) Lesh. She married Gerald Fleet Watson on November 25, 1936 in Millerstown, Pennsylvania. She has been a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area since 1940. Mary worked as a check writer for the Treasury Dept. in Harrisburg, PA, Prior to her marriage and as a secretary for CMU. And was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Mary enjoyed traveling, getting together with friends, gardening and her home life.
Mary is survived by one son Gerald Watson of Mt. Pleasant, one daughter Cecelia Askegard of DeWitt, MI. 3 grandchildren Scott Askegard, Cherie Lyn Sussman, Marci Lee DeWitt and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Gerald F. Watson, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Thelma Arnetta Vernon
January 2, 1909 - January 4, 2007

Thelma Arnetta Vernon, age 98, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007 at her home with her family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Ivan Odor of First Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery beside her husband.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday, January 5 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the First Church of Christ or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Thelma was born on Saturday, January 2, 1909 in Elm Hall, Michigan, the daughter of Albert Mitchell and Amanda Mabel (Smith) Schafer. In November 1928, she married Burwell Nelson Vernon in Edmore, Michigan. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1992. Since 1937, she was a resident of Mt. Pleasant. Thelma was a home maker and a member of the First Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed tatting, crocheting, and knitting.
Survivors include her sons, Raymond and Hilde, and Larry G., all of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, three sisters, and two grandchildren, Deborah Loop and Jeffrey Vernon.

Beverly Ruth Cotter
March 10, 1942 - December 22, 2006

Beverly Ruth Cotter, age 64, of Weidman, Michigan, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Beverly was born on Tuesday, March 10, 1942 in Nottawa Township, Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of Earl and Jeanette Velma (Jackson) Watson. On July 13, 1963, she married Ronald William Cotter at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Bev was a lifetime area resident, a home maker, and a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Beal City, also a member of the Clare Moose Lodge, and the Clare Eagles. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald, three children: Lynn Anne Cotter, Timothy William Cotter, and Mary Eileen Cotter, all of Weidman; a granddaughter, Eileen Marie Cotter; a brother, Ronnie Nile Watson of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Penny Lou and Nick Lezan of Saginaw, and Rhonda Eileen and Dan Goodall of Coleman. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, twin daughters, Jean and Joan Cotter in 1966, and a brother, Darrel Lee Watson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Fr. Thomas McNamara of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church officiating. Following Bevs wishes, cremation will take place after the funeral service, with interment of the cremated remains in Calvary cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph the Worker School or Central Michigan Home Health Care. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

John Ernest Moerlins
June 18, 1921 - December 20, 2006

John Ernest Moerlins, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Boley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service, with burial of the cremated remains in Memorial Gardens cemetery with Johns wife, Lois.
Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, December 21 from 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
John was born on Saturday, June 18, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Charles and Ellen (McDate) Moerlins. In November of 1944, John married Lois Fontaine in Detroit. Lois passed away on August 14, 1987. John was a resident of the area since 1960. He was employed as a Hydraulics Technician for Holley Carburetor for 31 years. He then worked for 10 years for the CMU Grounds Crew, and worked part time for Kroger's for 10 more years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the VFW, and enjoyed traveling, working part time, and caring for his home. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving with the rank of Staff Sergeant from 1942 to 1945.
John is survived by his children: Elizabeth and David Miller of Mt. Pleasant, Michael and Emily Moerlins of Alma, and John Ernest and Deborah Moerlins, Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida; six grandchildren: Monica and Tom Darga, Christian and Jeff Kennedy, Andrea and Brian Wentworth, , Margaret and Jeff Hovey, Michael Moerlins, and Rebecca Moerlins; nine great grandchildren: Jay Kennedy, Andrew Kennedy, , Casey Kennedy, Lexi Wentworth, Ashton Wentworth, Trueman Wentworth, Brody Hovey, Beau Hovey, and MacCoy Hovey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, both parents, and a brother, Edward Moerlins.

Ida Mae Lucia
July 27, 1919 - December 14, 2006

Ida Mae Lucia, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Pine River Healthcare Center, St. Louis, Michigan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant With Joe Mitchell of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians.
Friends may gather with the family on Sunday, December 17, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home.
The family has suggested memorials in memory of Ida Mae be made out to HATS, or the Isabella County Animal Shelter. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.
Ida Mae was born on Sunday, July 27, 1919 in Nahma, Delta County, Michigan the daughter of Allen and Elizabeth (Moses) Lucia. She was a Mt. Pleasant resident for the past 20 years. Ida Mae was a homemaker, a waitress and cook, a nurses aid, and especially a volunteer at the Seventh Generation Cultural Center and the Sowmick Senior Center. She was a proud member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. Ida Mae was a member of the Naanooshke Kwewag Waalye womens circle and a member of St. Marys Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Lynn of Mt. Pleasant and Krystine (Carlos) Rojas of Petoskey; three sons, Arthur (Antoinette) Brewer of Laredo, Texas, Leon (Beverly) Trueblood of Salisbury, North Carolina, and David Jonas Johnson of Detroit; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and four sisters.

Vernon Lee Powis, Sr.
September 4, 1922 - December 8, 2006

Vernon Lee Powis, Sr., age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Friday, December 8, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Boley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Chippewa Township cemetery, Isabella County, Michigan.
Friends may gather with the family on Sunday, December 10 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Vernon was born on Monday, September 4, 1922 in Witt, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Ida (Lee) Powis. On June 21, 1945, he married Luella Heistand in Isabella County. Vernon was a resident of the area since he was a young child. He was employed as a furnace repairman, and owned his own shop for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and raising and racing pigeons.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Luella; daughter, Susie (Fred) Savage of Huron, Ohio; daughter-in-law, DeeAnn Powis of Bradenton, Florida; six grandchildren, Jeff (Tracey) Ward of Huron, Ohio, Karrie Powis of Mt. Pleasant, Rob Ward of Huron, Ohio, Kelly Powis of Chicago, Illinois, Matt (Heather) Powis of Traverse City, and Levi Powis of Bradenton, Florida; six great grandchildren, Josh Powis, Sierra, Sydney, and Jake Ward, and Tre and Elise Powis; and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Josephine, his son, Vernon Powis, Jr., and an infant granddaughter.

Jean Jeanie Marie Parker
December 20, 1959 - December 7, 2006

Jean Jeanie Marie Parker, age 46, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Central Michigan Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Richard Fulkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland cemetery, Rosebush, Michigan.
Friends may call at the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church, 6012 S. Mission Road on Monday, December 11 from 2-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions in memory of Jeanie may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Envelopes are available at the church and Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Jeanie was born on Sunday, December 20, 1959 in Cass City, Michigan, the daughter of Charles and Beverly (Lootens) Parker. She was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area since 1976. Jeanie was a member of the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church, where she was very active in church activities. She enjoyed dolls, her collection of dolls numbered over 200. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cross stitch, and her many friends.
Jeanie is survived by her son, Quentin Charles Parker, her mother, Beverly Parker of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, David and Rachel Parker and John Parker, all of Mt. Pleasant; nephews, Jake, David, and Donavan; and nieces, Danielle and Christina.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles, and her grandparents.

Ilah B. Myers
March 20, 1923 December 4, 2006

A compassionate and generous wife and mother, Ilah Brunsvold Myers, died in Mt. Pleasant on Monday morning, December 4, 2006. Ilah was born in Northwood, Iowa, on Tuesday, March 20, 1923 to Elmer and Maude Brunsvold. After graduating from Northwood High School and attending college for a brief time, Ilah entered the Womens Army Corp and served in the South Pacific during World War II. While in New Guinea, she met a dashing Master Sergeant named Frank Myers. While they met a half a world away, Frank and Ilah grew up only 75 miles from each other in northern Iowa. They married in 1946 and, upon Frank completing his college education at Indiana University, they settled in Mt. Pleasant. Ilah was employed in a variety of administrative roles by Central Michigan University.
Ilah exemplified a woman of the Greatest Generation through her service to her country and her community as well through her ability to gracefully contend with adversity. Over the years Ilah was active in the CMCH Hospital Auxiliary, the CMU Faculty Dames, the Mt. Pleasant Community Church, and Chipwood Swim Club. However, what mattered most to Ilah was her family and friends. Her home was always a haven to her four children and their many friends as well as a bridge club that enjoyed each other for 50 years. She loved gardening, camping, weekends at the cottage, picnics at School Section Lake, big band music and clearing out the kitchen and living room floors for holiday parties so guests could dance.
Ilah is survived by four children: Sara (David) Dora of Muskegon, Martha (Richard) Robb of Mt. Pleasant, Meredee Vaughan and Clarence Conyers of Lansing, and William (Kathryn) Myers of Traverse City. She is survived by seven loving grandchildren: Tawny, Joanna, Garrett, Brian, Deanna, David, Jack and son-in-law, Mike Goodale. She is also survived by many dear friends including her best man, Norman Preston, of Liberty, Missouri. Ilah was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her parents, and her two brothers, Richard and Robert.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor John Rob officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Gardens cemetery. A reception will be held at The Embers immediately following the funeral service.
The family has asked friends to celebrate Ilah's life with a donation to the American Cancer Society, the National Parkinsons Foundation, or Hospice of Central Michigan.

Clarence Chuck Anthony Berant
May 9, 1943 - November 30, 2006

Clarence Chuck Anthony Berant, age 63, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2007. Interment of the cremated remains will take place in Chucks home town of Posen, Michigan
Friends wishing to remember Chuck may make a memorial contribution to Community Cancer Services. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.
Clarence was born on Sunday, May 9, 1943 in Posen, Michigan the son of Anthony and Theresa (Krajniak) Berant.
He was a resident of Mt. Pleasant since 1985, moving from Clare, where he owned and operated a bar for 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and attended St. Marys Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Survivors include his daughter, Lizette and Reginald Bankhead of Garden City, MI and their daughter, Alisha. Three brothers, Tom and Janice Berant, Florian and Patty Berant, and Eugene and Sharon Berant; three sisters, Margie and Leonard Dembny, Ellie and Richard Rygwelski, and Blanche and Richard Forton, all of northern Michigan. Also surviving are his special friends, Ella Mae VanSyckle and her daughter, Tina VanSyckle.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents.
