John Howard Frederick
March 27, 1934 - June 4, 2007

John Jack Howard Frederick, age 73, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Monday, June 4, 2007 Spectrum Health, Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids, Michigan. John was born on Tuesday, March 27, 1934 in Crosby, Minnesota, the son of Albert Fletcher and Audrey (Blechinger) Frederick.
Jack lived most of his life in the Mt. Pleasant area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. From an early age, Jack had an interest in things mechanical, learning mechanic skills from his dad, and continuing while he was in the Army, and from 1964 until his retirement in 1980, he owned and operated Specialized Auto Service in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed collecting and working on old tractors, gas engines, and repairing things he found in the junk yard. In his younger years, he rode motorcycles and snowmobiles. He owned a Cub Cadet tractor for many years, and enjoyed giving his children rides in a wagon behind the tractor. He enjoyed deer hunting, and was proud of the 10 point buck he got at the family farm.
Survivors include his children: Lance Frederick of Blanchard, and Heather and Greg Robinson of Mt. Pleasant; his grandchildren: Bonnie, Kyle, and Daniel; two brothers: Don and Wilda Frederick of Naubinway, Michigan, and Dave and Jan Frederick of Paw Paw, Michigan; a sister: Joan and Stu Moses of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; and a sister-in-law: Dorotha Frederick of DeWitt, Michigan. He was preceded in death by both parents, and two brothers, Wayne and Bobby.
It was Jacks wishes to be cremated. A memorial service to celebrate Jacks life was held on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the family farm. Included in the celebration, was Jacks favorite ice cream, home made by his friend, Don Burden.
Memorial contributions in Jacks memory were suggested to the American Kidney Foundation.

Nancy Ellen Ellis
May 7, 1947 - May 25, 2007

Nancy Ellen Ellis, age 60, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 25, 2007 at Hospice House in Lansing, Michigan
Nancy was born on Wednesday, May 7, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of John R. and Evelyn Ida (Reich) Snurka. On Saturday, August 5, 1967, she married William Bill Ellis at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. She was a resident of Mt. Pleasant since the early 1960s, moving from Detroit.
Nancy was a graduate of Central Michigan University with a teaching degree. She was a nursery school teacher for Zion Lutheran Pre-School for many years. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and helping out wherever she was needed. She enjoyed gardening, scrap booking, and especially time with her grandchildren.
Survivors included her husband, Bill; a son, Michael Ellis and his wife Susan of Northville, Michigan; and a daughter, Sara VanderHoff and her husband Michael of Clio, Michigan; three grandchildren: Carter, Conner, and Jack. Three brothers: Robert and Nancy Snurka and Tom and Marcia Snurka, all of Colorado, and Rick and Julie Snurka of Fenton, Michigan; two aunts, Margaret Snurka of Greenbush, Michigan, and Ruth Creighton of Detroit, Michigan; and an uncle, Warren Reich of Eastpointe, Michigan. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, 701 E. Maple Street, with Pastor Samuel Reith officiating. Interment followed the service in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends gathered with the family on Monday, May 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home and again on Tuesday, May 29 from 10 a.m. until time of the service at Zion Lutheran Church. The family had suggested memorial contributions in Nancys memory to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, the Zion Lutheran Church Pre-School, or the Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Dorothy Maxine Berryhill
February 21, 1922 - May 14, 2007

Dorothy Maxine Berryhill, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2007 at her home.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Interment was at the Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends gathered with the family on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home. Memorials had been suggested to the Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Berryhill was born on Tuesday, February 21, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the daughter of Fird and Mary (Trimm) Price. She married John Berryhill in Mt. Pleasant on August 3, 1941; he proceeded her in death in April 1974.
Mrs. Berryhill was employed at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center in Mt. Pleasant for 34 years as a nurse and nursing supervisor. She enjoyed golf and bowling.
Dorothy is survived by her son Robert (LuAnn) Berryhill of Mt. Pleasant and one sister Joyce Cook of Alpena, Michigan. She had eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; both parents; two sons, Pat and Gary Berryhill; one daughter, Karen Berryhill Earl; three brothers Therman, Harry and Bob Price; and two sisters Helen and Marcille.

LAWRENCE EARL SHANAVER
April 12, 1946 - May 9, 2007

Lawrence (Uncle Larry) Earl Shanaver, age 61, of Weidman, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at his home.
Services were held on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at The Potters House Family Worship Center, 5346 E. Deerfield Rd., Mt. Pleasant, MI. with Pastor Ron Ives officiating.
Friends gathered with the family on Friday May 11, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service at The Potters House Family Worship Center. Memorial Contributions had been suggested to the family to help with expenses. Envelopes are available at the church and Helms Funeral Home.
Larry was born on April 12, 1946 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Harry and Rose (Alexander) Shanaver.
He was married to Helen (Welch) on December 11, 1992 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Larry had lived in the Weidman area for 20 years and owned and operated Shanaver, Inc. working as a roofer. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club and the Bass Pro Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Weidman, his children, Jim (Janet) Shanaver of Taylor, MI, Steve (Sharon) Shanaver of Oil City, MI, Sherry (Jason) Stewart of Ypsilanti, MI., Thomas (Lorena) Morden of Weidman, MI, Treasa (Gilberto) Villanueva of Naples, FL, Ron (Beth) Shanaver of Detroit, MI, Rob Morden and his fiancé Stephanie of Weidman, MI, and Jonanthon Shanaver, MI., his sister Pam (Al) Moore of Mt. Pleasant, MI. He had 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Roderick Rick William MacLeod
November 4, 1958 - May 8, 2007

Roderick Rick William MacLeod, age 48, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 in Grand Rapids. A private funeral for the family was held at Helms Funeral Home.
Rick was born on November 4, 1958 in Detroit Michigan to Roderick and Laura (Gregory) MacLeod. He worked for 8 years as a laborer for a Food Supplier. He served in the Army as a private from 1977 to 1978 when he was honorably discharged.
Rick is survived by his mother Laura (Russell) Bolitho of Weidman, his sister Kathy (Sander) Kushmer of Suttons Bay, nieces Michelle and Ashley and nephew T.J.

Thomas Edward Giesken
September 13, 1948 - April 17, 2007

Thomas Edward Giesken, age 58 of Alma, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at his home in Alma. He was a loving Father and Grandfather and a friend to all.
A Memorial/Motorcycle run was held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Island Park, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Memorial contributions were suggested to the Gratiot Area Hospice. Envelopes were available at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Tom was born on Monday, September 13, 1948 in Alma, the son of Rudolph and Mary Elizabeth (Mull) Giesken. He was a lifetime resident of Alma. Tom served in Vietnam. He worked at Lobdell/Oxford for 38 years and Lear for 2 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1454 in Alma, a member of the St. Louis Moose Lodge, and ABATE Region # 10 and # 21. Tom had a Vietnam jeep with signatures of over 2, 000 veterans on it that he took to local parades.
Survivors include his daughter Michele and Randy Keeler of Mt. Pleasant, two grandchildren Samantha and Adam and two sisters Patricia Nagel and Susan Fitzpatrick. He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Donny Giesken

Robert James Gorby
November 2, 1954 - April 13, 2007

Robert James Gorby, age 52, of, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Bob was born on Tuesday, November 2, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Argil P. and Dorothy Ann (Bowie) Gorby. He was a lifetime area resident.
Bob was a licensed private pilot for many years. He was a member of the Central Michigan Ham Radio Club, a Spotter on Skywatch, the Central Michigan Severe Weather Watch, a member of the Alma Pilots Association, the Clare Airport Pilots Association, a member and chapter secretary of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 907, and a member of the National Experimental Aircraft Association. He was on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Aviation Association, which is the sponsor of the Michigan Air Tour, of which Bob was an active participant. He was a past assistant manager of the Clare Airport for several years, and was currently the Mt. Pleasant Airport Fuel Specialist for over 10 years. Memorial contributions have been suggested to one of the groups that Bob was a member of. Contributions may be sent in Bobs memory to Bill Cain, 210 Court Street, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 48858. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home and at the Mt. Pleasant Airport, care of John Benzinger at mopairport@hotmail.com.
Survivors include his grandmother, Mary Gorby of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters: Kathy Gyarmati of Brownstown, Michigan and Ruth and Glenn Novak of Chesterfield, Michigan; a niece, Lisa and Benjamin Barrett of Monroe, Michigan; aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Argil and Dorothy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Airport, 5453 E. Airport Road, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan

Jon Clifford Marsac
March 4, 1957 - April 12, 2007

Jon Clifford Marsac, age 50, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at his home.
Jon was born on Monday, March 4, 1957 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Clifford and Elsie (Miller) Marsac. On November 17, 2000, he married Diane Mock in Mt. Pleasant. Jon was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant and Farwell area most of his life.
Jon was member of the Bible Baptist Church in Rosebush, where he served as song leader and sang many solos. He worked with Amazing Grace Missions helping others. Jon enjoyed reading, collecting books and records, and loved his dog, Buck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been an employee of the McBride Quality Care working as a direct care worker.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; children: Jennifer and Aron Wuelfing of Alma, Jeremy and Annika Marsac of Germany, Chad Mindel of Mt. Pleasant, Adam and Sheena Hill of Mt. Pleasant, and Wendy and Bill Teeter of Clare; grandchildren: Katie, Benjamin, Samantha, Isaiah, Josiah, Joseph, Calder, and Brandon; brothers: Joseph and Maria Marsac of California, Dave and Jeannie Marsac of Delton, Michigan, and Neil and Verda Marsac of Billings, Montana; and sister: Yvonne Marsac of Flint, Michigan. Jon was preceded in death by his parents, and a step son, Larry Lovey.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Bible Baptist Church, 3890 E. Rosebush Road, Rosebush, Michigan, with Pastor Jesse Boge officiating. Interment followed the funeral service in Cherry Grove cemetery, Clare, Michigan. Friends gathered with the family on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of the service at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions were suggested the family to help with expenses.

Beverly Gertrude Parker
September 5, 1936 - April 9, 2070

Beverly Gertrude Parker, age 70, of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Beverly was born on Saturday, September 5, 1936, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Varney) Lootens. She married Charles Parker in July 1953 in Cass City, Michigan. Beverly lived in Cass City for most of her life until 1974, when she moved to Mt. Pleasant. She was a welder for Evans Products in Gage Town, and was a homemaker after she moved to Mt. Pleasant.
Survivors include three children, David (Rachel), John, and Quentin Parker, all of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, David J. Parker, Jr., Danielle Parker, Christina Michelle Mae Parker, Donovan Robert Chaffee, and Jacob David J. Parker; her sisters Marie Nichols and Leona (Eldon) Knight of Shepherd, Sonja Nichols, Pattie (Bob) Tupper, and Joan Moore, of Mt. Pleasant; her brother Henry (Dorothy) Lootens of Lake Odessa, MI; her good friend and family Pat Vinton of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Charles; a daughter, Jean; a sister, Joyce Mallay; a brother, Jerry Lootens, and both parents.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Central Michigan Free Methodist Church Pastor Richard Fulkerson officiating. Interment followed the service in Woodland cemetery, Rosebush, Michigan. Friends gathered with the family at Central Michigan Free Methodist Church on Thursday, April 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday, April 13, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions were suggested to the needs of the family.

Douglas VanderPloeg
August 5, 1953 - April 8, 2007

Douglas VanderPloeg, age 53, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007 at Central Michigan Community Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer with his wife Cindy at his side.
A gathering of friends took place on Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Dr. Pamela Gray officiating. Following Dougs wishes, cremation has taken place. The family had suggested memorials in Dougs memory be made to H.A.T.S. or to Community Cancer services.
Doug was born on Wednesday, August 5, 1953 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Jack and Phyllis Josephine (Lotterman) VanderPloeg. On Saturday, May 18, 2002, he married Cynthia V. Deuel Neal at Canadian Lakes. Doug was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Since 1996, he lived at Canadian Lakes and Mt. Pleasant. He was a 21 year veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as an electrician. He served on nuclear submarines on missions that were classified by the Navy. He and Cindy are owners of the Mole Hole in Mt. Pleasant. Doug enjoyed raising Rottweiler dogs, and swimming in the lake. He taught a computer class at Canadian Lakes, which is where he met his wife, Cindy, and was very good at computer repairs. He was a member of the Canadian Lakes Marine Patrol. For the past two years, he worked at Helms Funeral Home. Doug enjoyed gadgets, and if you wanted to know something, all you had to do was ask him, and he would consult his Palm Pilot, where he most likely had the answer you needed.
Survivors include his wife Cindy, a brother, Dan and his wife Arlene of Grand Rapids, and a sister Dawn, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends. He is also survived by his and Cindys four dogs, which Doug called the grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Damon, in 1988, and both parents.

Mary Lou Wilcox
October 23, 1940 - April 8, 2007

Mary Lou Wilcox. age 66. of Shepherd, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007 at the Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, Michigan.
Mary was born on Wednesday, October 23, 1940, in Trufant, Michigan, the daughter of Pablo and Sarah (Alday) Rodriquez. She married Gerald Wilcox in July 1959. She was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant and Shepherd area. Mary was a homemaker.
Mary is survived by her children, Gerald Eugene Wilcox of Mt. Pleasant, Carla DuPree of Shepherd, Ronald (Karen) Wilcox of Mt. Pleasant, and a step-daughter, Sandra Dunn of Missouri. She was also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley, Mary, Katie, Sara, Christopher Bucky and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, in June 1999, both of her parents, two brothers and one sister
Funeral Services were held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. from Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor James Reamsma officiating. Interment followed the service in Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends gathered with the family at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Friday, April 13, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Commission on Aging.
