John R. Parker
September 22, 1954 -- May 7, 2010

John Ralph Parker, age 56, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on May 7, 2010 at his home in Mt. Pleasant. John was born on September 22, 1954, in Cass City, Michigan the son of Charles and Beverly (Lootens) Parker.
John had been employed as a painter and welder in the automotive industry for several years. He enjoyed going to the casino and watching cartoons. He was a resident of Mt. Pleasant since 1974, moving here from Cass City.
A memorial celebration of Johns life was held on Friday, May 21, at 1:00 pm at the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jason Leininger officiating. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Woodland cemetery, Rosebush, Michigan.
John is survived by his brother, David (Rachel) Parker, adopted brother, Quentin Parker; several nieces and nephews, Danielle, Jacob, David Jr., Christina, and Donovan all of Mt. Pleasant; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by both parents, and a sister, Jeanne.
Memorial contributions in Johns memory may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Mary Jane Downey
June 25, 1928 -- April 29, 2010

Mary Jane Downey, age 81, of Harrison, Michigan died Thursday evening, April 29, 2010 at her home. Mary was born on June 25, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Leon and Berniece Thompson Dittmar.
A private family service will be held.
On July 12, 1952, Mary and William Downey were married in Detroit. They were residents of Harrison since 1961 where they owned and operated a restaurant from 1961 to 1972 and then owned and operated an appliance store from 1972 until their retirement in 1996.
Mary is survived by her husband William; two daughters, Ann and William Thayer of Mt. Pleasant and Susan Tek of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Dittmar of Brighton. She was preceded in death by her parents.

William W. Stinson
October 6, 1963 -- April 17, 2010

William W. Stinson, age 46, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Sparrow Healthcare System in Lansing. William was born on October 6, 1963 in Petoskey, Michigan, the son of John and Bertha Washburn Stinson.
William served in the US Army in the early 1980s and had been a resident of Mt. Pleasant since 1987. He was employed as a chef at the Soaring Eagle Casino for 14 years. He was a member of the Petoskey First Baptist Church, the NRA, TAPS, and the Civil Air Patrol.
A memorial visitation and service was held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
William is survived by his two children, CaSondra Stinson of Sault Ste. Marie and Joshua Stinson of Farwell; his special friend, Pandora Bliss and her children, Scott, Brittney, and Jackie Bliss, all of Mt. Pleasant; his dog, Bailey; a brother, Stan Stinson of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, River Debra Stinson and her partner Amanda Heinlein of Fort Howard, Maryland; special friends, Ted and Melissa who took care of him; his hunting partner, Toby Gauthier; his Aunt Betty and Uncle Don Avery; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Stinson and Gary Stinson; and a sister, Susan Stinson.

Donna Lastelle Howe
December 2, 1920 - March 27, 2010

Donna Lastelle Howe, age 89, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant. Donna was born on December 2, 1920 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Clinton and Lois (Kobel) Secord. On May 14, 1941, she married Walter Sterling Howe in Lansing, Michigan. Walter preceded Donna in death on November 20, 1996.
Donna was a resident of the area for the past three years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, word search, knitting, crocheting, and listening to The Irish Tenors.
A funeral service celebrating Donnas life was held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 2 p.m.at the Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Hall officiating. Interment took place in Two Rivers cemetery, Isabella County beside her husband. The family gathered with friends on Monday, March 29 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her children: Walter and Sally Howe of Weidman, Sharron and Phil Baker of Nunica, Michigan, Susanne and William Martin of Charlevoix, Michigan, and Diane Sharp of Grand Haven, Michigan along with fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, a son David in 1969, a great granddaughter Jennifer in 2010, five brothers, and four sisters.

Helen Ann Morris
September 15, 1934 - March 26, 2010

Helen Ann Morris, age 75, of Farwell, Michigan, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010 at her home. Helen was born on September, 15, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the daughter of Luke and Bertha (Bazaire) Cotter. She married Richard Morris on June 14, 1952 in Beal City. Richard preceded her in death on August 25, 1996.
Helen was a lifetime resident of the area. For nineteen years, she was employed as a Nurses Aide for the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. She then was employed for six and a half years in the food service department at Central Michigan University. Helen was a member of St. Henrys Catholic Church, the Eagles Club of Clare, and the Moose Lodge in Clare. She enjoyed traveling, being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her friends. She also enjoyed gardening and going to casinos.
Survivors include her companion, Hank DeLong, Sr., her children: Sue and Ed Pohl of Farwell, John and Tammy Morris of Rosebush, and Richard and Helen Morris, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant. Six grandchildren: Bill, Sarah, and Katie Morris, Johnny and Rebecca Morris, and Travis and Tracey Pohl; four great grandchildren: Justin, Makanzie, Aryania, and Lorain. Also surviving is a brother, Dale and Mavelyn Cotter of Mt. Pleasant, and a sister, Violett and Vern Gross of Rosebush. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, a son Stephen Morris, a brother Lyle Cotter, and a sister-in-law Jan Cotter.
A funeral service celebrating Helens life was held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Jim Young officiating. Interment was in Gilmore Township cemetery, Isabella County, beside her husband, Richard. Friends gathered with the family on Monday, March 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Tuesday prior to the service.

Krystal Angel Garza
March 17, 2010

Krystal Angel Garza, infant daughter of Rudolfo and Thalia (Rodriguez) Garza, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, was born and passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Private graveside services will be held for the family.
Survivors include Krystals parents, her siblings, her grandparents: Dolores and Daniel Hernandez, Rudolfo Garza, Sr., Maria and Daniel Huerta, Lionel Rodriguez, and Maria Lopez, great grandparents: Esmergilea Olizdares, and Juan and Nena Rodriguez, and many aunts and uncles.
The family wishes to express their thanks to all of the nurses on the OB Unit at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the family to help with expenses. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.

Lila Hope Simcox
June 26, 1918 - March 12, 2010

Lila Hope Simcox, age 92, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, Michigan. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial celebration of her life is being planned at a later date for family and friends.
Lila was born on June 26, 1918 to Reverend Ralph and Gladys (Perry) Silvernail of St. Johns, Michigan. Lila married Howard G. Simcox on March 28, 1937 in Eureka, Michigan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, and a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. Lila graduated from the Wilde Conservatory of Music in 1941 and appeared as a regular concert pianist with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. She earned her associate degree in Fashion Design from Northwestern University in 1960. During WW II, she was trained as a Special Agent for the FBI while her husband served in the Military Intelligence. She loved music, fashion and home design, and serving the Lord.
Lila was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her sister, Rhea Faith (Silvernail) Smith, and a grandson, Richard Martin Lemons. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyne E. (Simcox) Hunt and her husband Donald, of Seminole, Florida; her son, Reverend James H. Simcox and his wife Clare of Shepherd, Michigan; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Charles Edward Barth, Jr.
January 30, 1939 - March 12, 2010

Charles Edward Barth, Jr. Ed, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Ed was born on January 30, 1939 in Marysville, California, the son of Charles and Jean Swope Barth, Sr. and was raised in Gridley, CA
After graduating from Gridley High School, Ed joined the US Navy and was on the maiden voyage of the USS Ranger where he got to see the world. In his late twenties, Ed traveled north, turned right and ended up in Michigan where he spent the next 40 years.
Ed received his BA, MA, and Psych Specialist from Central Michigan University. He worked as a school psychologist for the Gratiot Isabella RESA and as a staff psychologist for the Regional Center.
Ed had a strong musical background and could play several instruments. He enjoyed sailing, books, theater, and his favorite pastime of bringing people together and sharing information.
Ed was survived by his mother, Jeanne Greenley of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Dr. Keely Callahan of Tampa, Florida; and his beloved, Jane Wittkopp of Mt. Pleasant.
A celebration of Eds life will be held at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, March 20 at 1:00 pm. The family will greet friends on Friday, March 19 from 6 to 8 pm at Helms Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dan Bridenstein Memorial Foundation or to the charity of ones choice. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.

Amanda Dawn Chomo
July 11, 1980 - March 6, 2010

Amanda Dawn Chomo, age 29, of Remus, MI passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Amanda was born July 11, 1980 in Americus, Georgia, the daughter of Virginia Chomo.
Memorial services for Amanda will be held at 1:30 p.m. pm Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Remus 1st Church of God. Interment of her cremated remains will be in County Line cemetery, Buena Vista, Georgia at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.
Amanda was a resident of the Remus area for the last five years. She loved crafts, fishing, and cooking.
Amanda is survived by her mother and step father, Virginia and Ted Arnold of Remus; a brother and his wife, Joseph and Erin Shelton of Henderson, NC; and two step sisters, Rebecca Arnold of Jackson and Rosemary Arnold of Mason; and a nephew, Joseph Shelton, Jr. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, and a brother, Johnathon.

Thelma M. Rowe
June 25, 1919 -- March 4, 2010

Thelma Margaret Rowe, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. Thelma was born on June 25, 1919 in Cheboygan, Michigan the daughter of Peter J. and Iva Mae Dumaw Morrow.
A celebration of the Funeral Mass were held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Loren Kalinowski as the celebrant. Friends called at Helms Funeral Home on Sunday, March 7, from 4 to 6 pm and an hour before the services at Sacred Heart. The Rosary was recited at 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzeimer's Association or to Woodland Hospice.
On November 28, 1945, Thelma married Howard S. Rowe in Detroit. She was a resident of Mt. Pleasant for more than 60 years. Thelma worked in the office for Roosevelt Oil Company as well as Dowell Oil Company in Mt. Pleasant for several years. She also was a secretary in the Central Michigan University Public Safety for 15 years. Thelma was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was involved in the Altar Society. She was a member of the Moose and enjoyed spending time at Houghton Lake and travelling the United States.
Thelma is survived by her brother and sister in law, Donald and Donna Morrow of Cheboygan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard in 2005; three sisters, Marie McCormick, Lawilda Cronk, and Florence Sokolowski; and a brother, Grover Morrow.

Verdean M. Weide
September 2, 1925 -- February 16, 2010

Verdean M. Weide, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. Verdean was born on Wednesday September 2, 1925 in Remus, Michigan, the daughter of Clarence and Hulda Thren Fountain.
Verdean was a beautician at the West Side Beauty Salon for many years. She married Charles Garner who preceded her in death and then married Ronald Weide, who also preceded her in death.
Verdean is survived by her three children, Larry and Debra Garner of Hillsboro, Ohio, Gale and Betty Garner of St. Johns, Michigan, and Glen Garner. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a brother, Allen Fountain.

Candum R. Buckner
October 8, 1971 -- February 9, 2010

Candum Royal Buckner, age 38, of Chippewa Township, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from a traffic accident at M-20 and Wise Road, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Candum was born on October 8, 1971 in Midland, Michigan, the son of Royalton and Colene Davis Buckner.
There are no services planned for Candum and cremation has taken place.
Candum is survived by his parents, Royalton and Colene Buckner of Mt. Pleasant; and many other relatives. He was a lifetime resident of the area.
