Clinton Russell Pelcher Sr.
June 3, 1917 - July 8, 2005

Clinton Russell Pelcher Sr., age 88, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on July 8, 2005 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 12 noon at the Seventh Generation Cultural Center at 7957 E. Remus Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Officiating Ojibwe Spiritual Leaders of the Bay Mills Reservation, Dwight Bucko Teeple and Andrew LeBlanc; Saginaw Chippewa Tribe, Milton Pelcher. Internment will take place in Chippewa Township cemetery following the funeral service.
Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, all day on Sunday and Monday at the Seventh Generation Cultural Center.
Clinton was born on Sunday, June 3, 1917 in Rosebush, Michigan to Isaac Pelcher and Lucy (Stevens) Pelcher. He was a lifetime resident of the area. He married Mildred June Pamptope on May 1, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant. Clinton worked for the railroad for 15 years loading and unloading railcars and tankers. He worked for Roosevelt Refinery for 5 years, and farmed for 23 years. For relaxation he enjoyed reading and baseball games. Clinton was veteran of the US Army during WWII as a Staff Sergeant.
Clinton is survived by his children: Clinton (special friend Honi) Pelcher Jr., Steven Warren Pelcher, Milton Charles (Vivian) Pelcher, Earl Dean (Mary) Pelcher, and Carl Roy (Mark Sanford) Pelcher all of Mt. Pleasant and Anita Pelcher (extended family member); two sisters Marie Herman of Florida, and Dorothy Shawano of Mt. Pleasant; and twenty-nine grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred on July 27, 1987, a son John Jay Pelcher, a brother John Pelcher, sisters Bernice Chapoton, and Viola and great grandsons Eli and Brandon.

Hugh Donald 'Don' Swindlehurst
July 28, 1921 - July 2, 2005

Hugh Donald 'Don' Swindlehurst, 83, of Rosebush passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Clare.
Funeral services for Don will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosebush Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mary Ann Evans-Justin officiating. The family will receive friends at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and an hour before the service on Wednesday at the Church.
Don was born July 28, 1921, in Rosebush, the son of Hugh and Marie Swindlehurst; he resided in Rosebush all of his life. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School and received from College of Life Insurance Underwriters (CLU) on Brynmar, PA. Don married Onalee Graham on August 9, 1941; together they had three children and they raised registered Angus cattle on the Donlee Stockfarm.
Among his many jobs Don worked as a gas station operator, owned and operated a creamery route, worked in the oilfields, was a feed salesman and was an agent for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 25 years. As an insurance agent he was highly successful, winning many awards and trips. Don was a life-long member of the Rosebush Presbyterian Church and served as the Sunday School Superintendent and an Elder. He was active in the Isabella-Denver 4-H Club, working with beef cattle. He enjoyed farming, golf and traveling. He especially enjoyed his winters in Florida.
Don is survived by his wife Onalee, and his children, Margie Geasler (James Achterberg) of Zephyrhills, Florida; Lynn Swindlehurst (Susie) of Lake Isabella; and Marianne Krautmanis (Agris) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Swindlehurst (Pat) of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Leona Sims (Pete) of Mt. Pleasant; and Ann Knapp (Gary) of Mt Pleasant; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Robertson and one brother, Jim Swindlehurst.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rosebush Presbyterian Church or the Rosebush Manor, of which Don was a contributing founder.

Mary Ellen Loomis
July 19, 1928 - June 24, 2005

Mary Ellen Loomis, age 76, of Weidman, Michigan, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2005 at Butterworth Campus of Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mary was born on Thursday, July 19, 1928 in Montcalm County, Michigan, the daughter of George and Otha (Johnson) Hunt. On April 7, 1945, she married Otis Loomis in Edmore, Michigan. Otis preceded Mary in death on July 6, 1997.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Internment took place in Bennett cemetery, Sherman Township, Isabella County, MI
Friends may gather with the family on Monday, June 27, 2005 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home.
Mary was a former member of the Moose and Eagles Lodges, she enjoyed playing cards with her family and baking bread. She lived most of her life in the Weidman area.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children; Maryanne Doyle, Dorothy (Robert) Barlow of Clare, Michigan, Vada (LeRoy) Holton of Hersey, Michigan, Marvin (Bonnie) Loomis of Weidman, Michigan, George (Pam) Loomis of Baldwin, Michigan and Ronald (Aldine) Griffer of Harrison, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.
Mary Ellen wan preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Otis, one brother, a son and a daughter, and seven grandchildren.

William R. Thompson
June 13, 1937 - June 19, 2005

William R. Thompson, sixty-eight years old, died on Sunday, June 19, 2005, in Lansing, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, JoAnne A. Thompson, his daughters, Katherine Donahue, D.V.M., (Jeffrey) of Okemos and Margaret Thompson of Chicago, and his beloved grandchildren, Matthew Thomas, Claire Anne, and Joseph Sean Thompson. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Critchell, his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Rose Donahue and Jan Iwaniec, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bradley L. Thompson, his mother, Marguerite R. Thompson, and his brothers, Bradley Thompson and Guy Thompson.
William was born on June 13, 1937, in Ann Arbor. He graduated from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan Law School. He married wife JoAnne in 1964. William was an active member of the legal community, practicing law in Mt. Pleasant and Isabella County for forty-two years. He served on numerous committees for the state and local bars. At various points in his career, he did pro bono work for the Legal Aid Society.
William was an intelligent, hard-working man. He loved bridge and was an American Contract Bridge League Silver Life Master. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with his three grandchildren.
Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Interment will take place in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Veterans Memorial Public Library, 301 South University Avenue, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 48858, or Meharry Medical College, 1005 Dr. D. B. Todd Jr. Blvd., Nashville, Tennessee, 37208-3599. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

George Francis
January 11, 1939 - June 17, 2005

George Francis, age 66, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, June 17, 2005 at Tendercare Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment will take place in Denver Township cemetery, Isabella County, MI.
Friends may gather with the family on Monday, June 20 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home.
George was born on Wednesday, January 11, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant, MI to Simon and Dorothy (Fisher) Francis
He was a lifetime resident of the area. George worked at the Soaring Eagle in the maintenance department and was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
George is survived by his children; Ross, George, Martin, and Maury Francis; Timothy, Joseph, Daniel, Wayne, Steve, Bobbie Jo and Carrie Jackson; many grandchildren, nephews and nieces; two brothers: Simon Francis and Robert Francis
George was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter; Connie Jackson.

Larry Allen Wright
December 13, 1960 - June 15, 2005

Larry Allen Wright, age 44, of Midland, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Mid-Michigan Medical center, Midland, Michigan.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment of cremated remains will take place in Chippewa Township cemetery, Isabella County. Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday from 12 noon until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church.
Larry was born on December 13, 1960 the son of LeRoy and Lucille (Stevens) Wright. He lived most of his life in the Mt. Pleasant area. Larry was a supervisor for the Midland County Shelter.
Survivors include his mother, Lucille Jackson Losey of Mt. Pleasant; his daughter Tishala Wright of St. Louis, three grandchildren; two brothers, James Wright of Sanford and Marshall and Taleen Jackson of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Marilyn and Robert Means of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father LeRoy, Wright; and two brothers Raymond Wright and Myron Jackson.

Floyd E. Davis Jr.
October 25, 1932 - June 12, 2005

Floyd E. Davis Jr., age 72, of Shepherd, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2005 at his daughters home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Obrecht of first Church of the Nazarene and Darren Greenfield of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating.
Internment will take place in Union cemetery, Fremont Township, Isabella County, Michigan.
Friends may gather with the family on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home.
Floyd was born on Tuesday, October 24, 1932 in Fremont Township, Isabella County, Michigan to Floyd E. and Permeila (Owens) Davis. Floyd married Virginia Ann Fenton on June 22, 1963 in St. Louis, Michigan. He lived most of his life in the Fremont Township area. His hobbies were working on tractors and mowing. Floyd is an Army veteran, having served in the early 1950s.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Virginia; son Michael Davis of Berrien Springs, MI, Daughters; Cheryl Ann (Nathan) Boge and Carol Sue Feltman; and five grandchildren.
Floyd was predeceased by his parents and five brothers; Lee, Ralph, Clerence, James, and Lyle.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to the wishes of the family.

David Paul Pego
Febuary 10, 1954 - June 10, 2005

David Paul Pego, age 51, of Brookings, South Dakota, passed away at his home in Brookings.
Memorial service will be held Monday, June 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon of the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will take place in Chippewa Township cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may call at the Helms Funeral Home on Monday, June 20 from 1 p.m. until time of the service.
David was born on February 1, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to James and Elsie (Kequom) Pego who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. He was the first Native American journalist to be named a McCormick Tribune Fellow. He was a delegate to the historic White House Conference on Indian Education and was the 2000 winner of the Innovators In Education Award. He was also the founder of Great Promise for Young American Indians, a non-profit organization, dedicated to creating educational and cultural opportunities for American Indian children. David was a journalist for over three decades.
David is survived by his daughter Christina Pego Murray and her husband Jason and their children Jackson, John-Thomas and Alexandra, all of Oklahoma City, a son Anthony Pego of San Diego, and his wife, Jennifer Pego of Massachusetts.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has suggested that memorials be sent to the David Pego Scholarship Fund for Native American Students at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, South Dakota State University, Brookings, South Dakota, or to the Association of American Indian Physicians, 1225 Soverign Row, Suite 103, Oklahoma City, OK, ATTN: Margaret Knight, Executive Director, and earmarked for diabetes education.

Ellen I. Davis
November 21, 1922 - June 7, 2005

Ellen I. Davis, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, MI passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant.
Following Ellens wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place.
Ellen was born on Tuesday, November 21, 1922 in Montcalm County, Michigan the daughter of Harold and Maude (Hutchison) Riggle. She married George W. Casner on January 18, 1940 in Mt. Pleasant, George passed away on September 26, 1974. On April 8, 1980, she married John E. Davis. He passed away on December 22, 1994. Ellen was a lifetime area resident. As a homemaker, Ellen enjoyed her flower gardens, and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Ann and Russell Gimmey of Grand Ledge, Mi and Mary Lou Coffell of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both parents, both of her husbands, and a son-in-law Carl Coffell.
