McGuire, Sr., Joseph F.
May 28, 1926 - September 29, 2002

Joseph Francis McGuire, Sr., 76, of Rosebush passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Funeral Mass for Joe will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at 3 p.m. from St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rosebush, with Fr. Jeffrey Donner and Sr. Mary Ellen McDonald co-officiating. Interment will follow in St. Henry’s cemetery in Rosebush.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. There will be a Prayer Service on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Joe was born May 28, 1926, in Vernon Township, the son of Joseph D. McGuire and Lillian (Cameron) McGuire. He married Mary Margaret (Peggy) Brondstetter on August 2, 1947, at Sacred Heart Church. Joe was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rosebush. He farmed all his life and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of farming with his grandchildren. His family will sadly miss him and his stories of local and family histories and seeing him drive his prize John Deere Model R.

Joe is survived by his 6 children, Carolyn (Dick) Reihl of Mt. Pleasant, Joseph (Rhonda) McGuire of Rosebush, Sue Curtice of Roesbush, David (Sue Anne) McGuire of Farwell, John (Lise) McGuire of Clare, Margaret Reihl (Merle) Koutz of Shepherd; 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Marcy Keenan of Maryland

Joe was preceded in death by Peggy, his beloved wife of 50 years; a grandson; his parents; two sisters, Marion Harris and Rosemary Godene.

Rhode, Elmer J.
June 7, 1925 - September 29, 2002

Elmer J. Rhode, 77, of Lake, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

A Funeral Mass for Elmer will be held on Wednesday, October 2, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Fr. John Cotter officiating. Interment will follow in Gilmore Township cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday, October 2, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. There will be a Vigil Service on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph the Worker Capital Campaign or to the Visiting Nurses Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Elmer was born June 7, 1925, in Broomfield Township, Isabella County, the son of Otto C. Rhode and Ida Schupach Rhode. Elmer was a self-employed area farmer for many years, retiring in 1981. He married Beatrice A. Simon on September 17, 1949, in Remus. Elmer was a life member of the Knights of Columbus in Beal City and he was also a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

Elmer is survived by his wife Beatrice and daughters Ruth Ann Wright of Midland and Betty (Mark) Schulte of Weidman; grandchildren, Alison, Jennifer and Kristen Wright, Erika, Cassie, Bret and Michael Schulte; great-grandson Linkoln Wright Barringar; and brother Ernest Rhode of Mt. Pleasant.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and beloved step-father Sylvester Dole.

Barber, Sr., Andrew Clarence
November 29, 1919 - September 24, 2002

Andrew Clarence Barber, Sr., 82 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Andrew will be held on Friday, September 27, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Duanes Koontz of Daniels Band Church officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery in Grayling.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, September 26, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Andrew was born on November 29, 1919, in Roscommon, the son of Ross and Mary (Chola) Barber. He served as a staff sergeant for the United States Army during World War II. Andrew married his wife Alice in January 1946 in Mt. Pleasant. He worked from 1946 to 1984 for Roosevelt Refinery, which became Leonard Oil, and retired from Total Crude Oil. Andrew enjoyed hunting and farming. He was a member of the Coleman VFW Post.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Alice; his children, Michael L. Barber of Mt. Pleasant, Clinton D. Barber (Debra) of Shepherd, and Andrew “Andy” C. Barber, Jr. (Shelly) of Mt. Pleasant; 6 grandchildren, Cheryl Vogel (Dan) of Shepherd, Daryl Barber of St. Louis, Clinton J. Barber of St. Louis, Jason Barber of Mt. Pleasant, Joshua Barber, and Justin Barber; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Nicholas and Vernon.

Graham, Roy F.
July 11, 1937 - September 20, 2002

Roy F. Graham, age 65, of Rosebush died at his home Friday, September 20, 2002, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Funeral Services for Roy will be held on Monday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Brian LaMew officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21, from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, September 22, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rosebush United Methodist Church.

Roy was born on July 11, 1937, in Nottawa Township to Roy J. and Mabel (Roethlisberger) Graham and lived in the Rosebush area most of his life. He married Janet (Lovejoy) Graham on August 14, 1959, in Mt. Pleasant. Together they traveled to all 48 contiguous states and enjoyed many trips to Canada. They are the proud parents of two sons, Ron and Rick.

Roy was known for his love of family, friends, gardening, and farming. He enjoyed growing beautiful gladiolus and sharing them with family and friends. He also shared his garden produce with others. He especially liked his farm toy collection and attending auctions. He was well known as “the bidder in the cowboy hat.”

Roy worked 36 years for Dow Chemical Company and retired in 1992. He served in the Naval Reserves on the maiden voyage of the USS Ranger aircraft carrier traveling around South America from Norfolk, VA to Treasure Island, CA.

Roy is survived by his wife, Janet; his sons, Ronald Earl Graham and wife Lynn of Weidman, Richard Lee Graham of Rosebush; grandchildren Kevin Graham and Stacy Graham of Weidman; brother Kendall Derry (Carolyn) Graham of Georgia, Aunt Bernice (William) Morrison of Mt. Pleasant; brothers-in-law Max (Joanne) Lovejoy, Bob (Betty) Lovejoy of Mt. Pleasant, Rex (Bev) Lovejoy of Stanwood, Don (Merlene) Lovejoy of Utah; sisters-in-law Zora (John) Datema of Farwell, Pat (Clare) Townsend of Alma; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and several uncles and aunts.

Naganashe, Sharon Marcine
July 17, 1937 - September 20, 2002

Sharon Marcine Naganashe, 65, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Sharon will be held on Tuesday, September 24, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Andrew LeBlanc, Traditional Practitioner, Bay Mills Reservation, Bucko “Dwight” Teeple, Traditional Practitioner, Bay Mills Reservation, and Milton “Beaver” Pelcher, Traditional Practitioner, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 22, from 11 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday, at Clark Funeral Chapel. A ceremonial prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Naganashe Family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Sharon was born on July 17, 1937, in Bay City, the daughter of Mark and Clara Elizabeth (Jackson) Isaac. She married Basil Naganashe in August of 1969, in Mt. Morris, Michigan. Sharon enjoyed “casino runs” and was known as the “Bingo Queen”. She also was an avid slot and card player. She especially enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren. Sharon was a Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribal Elder; a member of the Fraternal order of Eagles #629; and a former member of the Moose Lodge #2235 of Harrison.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Basil; her children, Mark (Beverly) Stevens of Mt. Pleasant; Vivian (Milton) “Beaver” Pelcher of Mt. Pleasant; Charlene (Robert) Chancellor of Flint, MI; Andrew (Amber) Naganashe of Grand Blanc, MI; and Karen S. Naganashe of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren, Christina; Marcine; Crystal; Clara; Theresa; Emily; Angela; Bianca; Basil II; Larry; and Tara; many nieces and nephews who loved her; her special friend Emma “Bootsy” Wachowiz and her bingo buddies Sandy and Jane.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; 11 brothers and sisters and a granddaughter Charity Stevens.

Luce, Clifford Ronald
June 14, 1916 - September 18, 2002

Clifford Ronald Luce, age 86, of Mt. Pleasant went to be with his Lord on September 18, 2002.

Funeral Services for Cliff will be held on Saturday, September 21st, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Evie Huber of the Prospect Park Church of God officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 19, from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, September 20, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Park Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Cliff was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born in Mt. Pleasant on June 14, 1916 to Otis and Oril Luce. He married Opal E. (Hyatt), daughter of Edwin and Mary Hyatt on May 1, 1941.

Cliff graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and he graduated from the Flint Barber College in 1935. He barbered in Ithaca and in Mt. Pleasant. He was one of the members of Prospect Park Church of God where he served as usher, chairman of the deacons, and other church offices. He also sold real estate for Mr. Peters and Mr. Williams. Cliff liked to repair TVs, radios and other items. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, music, and having garage sales.

He leaves behind his wife Opal; children, Ronald (Beth) Luce of Holt, Michigan, Joan (Larry) Maddox of Anderson, Indiana, Mary Stine of Mt. Pleasant, Donna Luce of Mt. Pleasant, Joyce (Ted) Orwig of Mt. Pleasant, and ex-son-in-law, Tom Warfle of Mt. Pleasant;
seven grandchildren, Vicki Moe, Karla Sempsrott, Rob Luce, Steve Luce, Teresa Orwig, Evie Orwig, and Matthew Warfle; four great grandchildren , Zachery, Kiley, Macy, Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Oril and Otis Luce, two brothers, Raymond and Ralph, and one sister Esther Hubbard.

Anderson, Thomas John
February 11, 1915 - September 17, 2002

Thomas J. Anderson, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Batavia, Illinois, passed away September 17, 2002, in his home at Dover Court Apartments, 1441 E. Broomfield. He was born February 11, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Thomas J. and Pauline (Stegmiller) Anderson. He was united in marriage to Jeanne E. Anderson in Tampa, Florida in 1945.

Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Radar Mechanic and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1945. He was employed over 25 years by the Holms Motor Company in Chicago prior to working for Victory Beauty Supply, installing and remodeling beauty salons, retiring in 1980. Throughout his life Tom enjoyed woodworking, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and received pleasure from feeding his “feathered friends.”

He is survived by his daughter Joyce E. (Paul) Hayward of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; son, Thomas J. Anderson of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Brandon B. Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; several nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; infant grandson Joey; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and McClure Huddelson; sister Alga Martin.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 20, from 4:30-6 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, 114 S. Bradley Street, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. A private interment will follow.

Contributions in memory of Tom may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the American Lung Association.

Burnia, Donald M.
June 24, 1933 - September 14, 2002

Donald M. Burnia, 69, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Donald was born on June 24, 1933, the son of John and Myrtle Burnia. He was employed as an engineer for Ford Motor Company.

Donald is survived by his children, Fr. Scott Burnia of Jamul, CA, Dean Burnia (Lynn) of Gregory, MI, Marc Burnia (Lisa) of Wixom, MI, Dirk Burnia (Diane) of Howell, MI and Kurt Burnia of Lake, MI; and 2 grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Audrey in 1991.

White, Frederick Lynn
March 24, 1952 - September 9, 2002

Frederick Lynn White, 50, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2002, in Collinsville, Alabama.

Funeral Services for Fred will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mark Christian of First Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, September 13, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Fred was born on March 24, 1952, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Frankie and Bertha (Myers) White. He graduated in 1970 from Mt. Pleasant High School. Fred married Lynn Young on January 26, 1973, in Dearborn Heights. He was employed for 33 years as a truck driver for MLT, Inc. Fred loved his work and enjoyed being on the road to provide for his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fred was a loving husband and father.

Fred is survived by his wife, Lynn; his children, Garrett (Kristen) White of Alma and Erika White of Mt. Pleasant; 2 grandchildren, Maggie Mae White and Julian Michael White; his mother Bertha (Paul) Spencer of Mt. Pleasant and in-laws Lawrence and Loraine Young of Brighton; brother Richard (Sue) White of Conway, SC and nieces Wendy White of CA and Krista (Pedro) Hedges and family of OH; brother-in-law Fred (Carol) Young of Brighton and nieces Sara and Susan Young of Brighton and Vicki (Michael) Terpak of Belleville.

Fred was preceded in death by his father Frankie White and brother-in-law Paul Young.

Lehnen, Edward Warren
February 21, 1928 - September 9, 2002

Edward Warren Lehnen, 74, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, September 9, 2002, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Funeral Services for Edward will be held on Thursday, September 12, at 1 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Richard Fulkerson of Central Michigan Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Chippewa Township cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, September 11, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Isabella Seniors. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Edward was born February 21, 1928, in Grand Rapids, the son of Floyd and Wilma (Reister) Lehnen. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and made smoke screens so our troops were not able to be detected. Edward married his wife, Constance, on
April 21, 1956, in Grand Rapids. He was employed as a journeyman locksmith for Central Michigan University from 1974 to 1990. Edward helped start several churches in Grand Rapids. He enjoyed history and collected clocks and watches.

Edward is survived by his children, Brian Lehnen of Kalamazoo, Sandy Lehnen of Mt. Pleasant, and John Lehnen (Michelle) of Shepherd; 3 grandchildren, Chad Koutz, Cody Lehnen, and Sara Lehnen; 1 brother Duane Lehnen (Joyce) of Caledonia; 2 sisters, Betts Rietman and Deede Rietman (Howard), both of Byron Center,

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Constance, on April 12, 2001, and both parents.
