Martha Evelyn Stottlemeyer
January 4, 1929 - March 31, 2005
Martha Evelyn Stottlemeyer, age 76, of Oil City, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant. She was born on January 4, 1929 in Dyersbugh, Tennessee, the daughter of Lonzo and Annie (Warren) Phillips. On December 7, 1977, she married
Edward R. Stottlemeyer in Pontiac, Michigan. She was a resident of Michigan since the age of 14, and a resident of Oil City since 1998.
Martha was a manager and bar tender for 17 years for Jacks Bar and Grill in Pontiac, Michigan. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard.
Survivors include her husband, Edward; a daughter, Wanda and Leonard Filhart of Coleman, Michigan; step-daughter, JereNell Moore of Michigan; grandchildren: Rhonda Dendy, Jerry Grice, Kim Bryce, Joyce Hana; step-grandchildren: Marvin Moore, Jr, Bobby Moore, Rodney Moore, and Michael Moore; 16 great grandchildren: Ruby, Jennifer, Anita, and Leonard; a sister: Glenda Faye Jones, and a half-brother, both in Tennessee.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 4, 2005 at 1 p.m. from the Oil City Assembly of God Church with Rev. James Reamsma officiating. Interment followed in Kelly cemetery, Oil City, Michigan. Memorial contributions were suggested to the family to help with expenses.
Rose Mary Stahl
December 10, 1945 - March 25, 2005
Rose Mary Stahl, age 59, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Friday, March 25, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She was born on December 10, 1045 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Leo and Lydia (Thompson) Stahl.
Rose Mary was employed at K-Mart in Mt. Pleasant for many years. She was a very avid seamstress and a very giving person. She was a lifetime resident of the area .
Memorial funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Interment of the cremated remains will take place in Salt River cemetery, Shepherd, Michigan at a later date.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters: Lois Stahl of Mt. Pleasant, Dorotha Frederick of Lansing, Shirley Liscomb of Colorado, Carol (Charles) Gill of Mt. Pleasant, Duane (Maxine) Stahl of Ohio, Robert (Jean) Stahl of DeWitt, MI, Jerry (Pat) Stahl of Clare, Janet Engwis of Mt. Pleasant, Sharon Liscomb and Joe of Wiedman, Nancy (James) Switzer of Shepherd, Jo (Gray) Carey of Evart, Kathryn Wright of Tennessee, and Karolyn (Richard) Groveneld of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Richard Stahl.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
Lyle F. Bennett
June 23, 1903 - March 24, 2005
Lyle F. Bennett, 101 years of age, passed away on March 24, 2005. Lyle was born June 23, 1903 in Rockford, MI to Fred and Carrie Bennett. Lyles wife of over 73 years was Frances Taylor Bennett who preceded him in death in 1998 as did his son, Dr. Kingsley Bennett in 2000. Surviving Lyle are daughter, Mary (David) Drake, daughter-in-law Velma Bennett, grandchildren: Jeffrey Bennett, Fredrick (Leslie) Bennett, Lori (Wally) Sowles, Barry (Robin) Bennett, Mary (Brian) Wynne, Dirk Drake and Michael Drake. Also surviving Lyle are 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation was on Monday, March 28, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. The funeral was held at Helms Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with a 4:30 p.m. graveside service at the Rockford, MI cemetery.

Barbara Jean Curtiss
June 21, 1929 - March 17, 2005
Barbara Jean Curtiss loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Central Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held at Helms Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Ivan Odor officiating. Interment was at Union cemetery, Fremont Township, Winn, Michigan. Friends called at the Helms Funeral Home on Friday March 18, 2005 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions were made to Juvenile Diabetes Association and American Lung Association.
Barbara was born June 21, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, MI to Clayton and Rosalie (Clark) Funnell. She married
Norman F. Curtiss Jr. on December 13, 1946 in Lansing, MI.
Barbara was a homemaker, operated a daycare, and sewed Barbie clothes. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Norman F. Curtiss Jr. five children; David (Sherron) Curtiss, Norman F. (Joanne) Curtiss III, Thomas (Deanna) Curtiss, Shirley (Robert) Bick, Karen (Ronald) Wilcox. Seventeen grandchildren; David John, Scott, Michael, Amy, Lisa, Eric, Bubba, Kristin, Michelle, Kimberly, Thomas Jr., and Benjamin Curtiss; Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Stacey Bick; and Katie and Christopher (Bucky) Wilcox; and three great grandchildren; brother William Funnell (Charlotte) of Beal City; and sister Donna Smith in Arizona; sister-in-law Rosalie Funnell.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Clayton and Rosalie Funnell and brother Richard Funnell.
Wilson D. McCloy
July 27, 1917 - March 2, 2005
Wilson D. McCloy, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 02, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Wilson was born on Friday, July 27, 1917 in Fairgrove, Michigan, the son of Welch and Jesse (Davison) McCloy. On Saturday, August 2, 1951, he married
Jean Shaver in Mt. Pleasant.
Wilson was retired from DOW Chemical Company, where he worked for 27 ½ years in Research. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater, where he participated in several of the Pacific battles. He was a Life Member of the Borley-Hanel VFW Post #3033 in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed woodworking in his shop, farming, and collecting John Deere memorabilia. For over 25 years, Wilson and Jean played cards at the Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons: Robert and Margie McCloy of Mason, Michigan, and Mark and Natalie McCloy of Clarkston, Michigan and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Roger L. McCloy; both parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor James Reamsma officiating. Interment will follow in Chippewa Township cemetery. A Veterans Honor Guard service will be provided by the Borley-Hanel VFW Post. Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, March 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Helms Funeral Home.
Memorials have been suggested by the family to the Isabella County Commission on Aging or the Borley-Hanel VFW Post. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.
Catherine Hope Dahms
April 3, 1939 - February 26, 2005
Catherine Hope Dahms, age 65, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma, Michigan. Catherine was born on Monday, April 3, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Russell and Hazel (Clark) Emlinger. On June 26, 1993, she married
Delvin E. Dahms in Midland, Michigan.
Catherine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. She had been employed in Patient Care for the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center for a period of time. After living in Traverse City for a short time, Catherine moved back to Mt. Pleasant in 1991 to start her daycare and spoil her grandchildren, Amanda and D.J., as only she could. She enjoyed her grandchildren, her dog Sparky, knitting and crocheting. She was a graduate of Shepherd High School Class of 1958.
Survivors include her husband, Delvin; son David and Peggy Bacome, and a daughter Tammy Neff, all of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren: Amanda Catherine and D.J. Bacome, and Heather and Michelle Neff; two sisters: Jackie Novak of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Louise Schuelke of Washington; a sister in law: Florence Emlinger of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Elizabeth and Mary; three brothers: Don, Russell, and Bill.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Samuel Reith officiating. Interment will follow in Chippewa Township cemetery, Isabella County, Michigan. Friends may gather with the family on Monday, February 28, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 from 1-2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to Womens Aid, Inc. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Raymond Lee Wright
Raymond Lee Wright, age 48, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away at his home near Mt. Pleasant. Raymond was born on November 27, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of LeRoy and Lucille (Stevens) Wright.
Raymond was employed for 17 years as a Pit Boss for the Soaring Eagle Casino in the Gaming Department. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, listening to music (especially Elvis), and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his mother, Lucille Jackson Losey of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; his children: Christopher and Tracy; brothers and sisters: Jim Wright, Marshall and Taleen Jackson, Larry Wright, and Marilyn Means; nieces and nephews: Patty Long, Sherry Hitchingham, Kristy Lopez, Peter Means, Stephanie Jackson, Tishala Wright; seven great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Wright and a brother Myron Jackson.
Memorial funeral services were held on Monday, February 28, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Friends gathered with the family on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m.
Lila Irene Presler
June 17, 1911 - February 21, 2005
Lila Irene Presler, age 93, of Leander, Texas, formerly of Alma, Michigan and North Port, Florida, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2005 in Bertrum, Texas. Lila was born on June 17, 1911 in Breckenridge, Michigan. In January of 1932, she married
Howard Dale Presler. Howard preceded her in death on December 26, 1999.
Lila was a bookkeeper most of her working life. She worked for Montgomery Wards and then the Standard Oil dealership her husband owned.
Survivors include her children: Diane and James Phillips of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Larry and Helen Presler of Texas; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband, Howard.
Private funeral services were held for the family. Interment took place in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Mildred Mae Peters
September 2, 1902 - February 16, 2005
Mildred Mae Peters, age 102, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at her home February 16, 2005. Mildred was born on September 2, 1902 to Justus O. and Arilla (Akans) Thomas in Ithaca, Michigan. She married
Ernest W. Peters on September 5, 1926 in Ithaca, Michigan. She had been an area resident since 1932.
Mildred was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of the Women of the Moose, and a former member of the GFWC-Mt. Pleasant, and the University Women.
She is survived by her three children, Barbara Jane Emery Braendle of Riverdale, Michigan, E. Thomas & Mary Lou Peters of Cheboygan, Michigan, and Kenneth Lee & Marilyn Peters of Remus, Michigan; seven grandchildren, John Emery, Kim Harper, Edward Peters, Janet Johnson, Kenneth Peters Jr., James Peters, and Patricia Higgins; thirteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; two sisters, Edna and Ruth; and one brother, Elmer.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Bongard officiating. Interment was at Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, MI.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Isabella County Commission on Aging, or First United Methodist Church.
Joan Charnes
June 25 1925 - February 9, 2005
Joan Charnes of Weidman, Michigan, passed away on February 9, 2005 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Weidman United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Adams officiating. A luncheon followed at the church.
Joan was born on June 3, 1925 in Weidman, Michigan, the daughter of Fey and Emma (Haskins) Middlesworth. She spent her entire life in the local school system, starting as Office Secretary at Weidman Community School. After receiving her teaching certificate, she spent several years teaching in Weidman, then completed her Masters in Guidance and Counseling. She retired as a High School Counselor from Chippewa Hills High School.
Joan is survived by her son, K.C. Charnes, a daughter-in-law Vivian, grandsons Kile and Chris and other special family and friends.
Memorial contributions were suggested to the Joan Charnes Memorial Fund, c/o Chippewa Hills High School.
James L. Harkins
March 4, 1928 - February 9, 2005
James Lavern Harkins, age 76, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at his home. Jim was born on March 4, 1928 in Beal City, Michigan, the son of Ernest and Cecelia (Neff) Harkins. On February 24, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant, he married
Velma Loomis.
Jim was a self employed mason working for Collison Construction. He was a sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and working in his workshop.
Jim is survived by his wife, Velma; a daughter Jerry Lynn Bierschbach of Lansing; one sister of Lansing; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Lee) Irish of DeWitt, Michigan and James Bierschbach of Fowler, Michigan; two great grandchildren: Fiona and Kian Irish, both of DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Irene Ludwick, Veronica Harkins, and Geraldine Harkins.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 11, 2005 from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor James Reamsma of the Oil City Assembly of God officiating. Interment took place in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends met with the family on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
