Vicky Lynn Alcorn
May 31, 1957 - September 4, 2004

Vicky Lynn Alcorn, age 47, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Tendercare, Mt. Pleasant. She was born on May 31, 1957 in St. Johns, Michigan, the daughter of Eugne and Connie (Atkinson) Welton. On August 20, 1994, she married Garry Alcorn in Oil City, Michigan.
Vicky worked as a waitress for the Dinner Bell, Tatters, and the Downtown Restrauant. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing yahtzee, and scrabble..
Survivors include her husband, Garry, her mother Connie Welton of St. Johns, Michigan; 2 brothers: Alan Welton of Oil City and Darrel Welton of St. Johns; 2 sisters: Shelia Welton of St. Johns and Diane Welton of Charlotte, MI. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene.
In following Vickys wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends desiring to make a memorial contribution may wish to consider the Pardee Cancer Center.

Louise Jane Fair
May 21, 1910 - September 4, 2004

Louise J. (Horton) Fair left to be with her Savior on Saturday, September 4, 2004. She was born on May 21, 1910, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Charles and Clara (Talmadge) Horton. She moved to Mt. Pleasant in the early 1930s, and with her husband, Neubert W. Fair, joined the First Baptist Church, where she served for many years in the nursery, social events and Missionary Society. She was employed as a switchboard operator at Central Michigan University until retirement in 1980. Louises joy was quilting, and her lovely quilts are treasured by her friends and family.
Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, N.W. Fair, in 1977, and brothers William and George Horton, sisters Beatrice, Gladys, and Agnes. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Fair, of Lansing, Michigan, and a sister, Marian Blackburn, of Muskegon, Michigan; nieces and nephews Michael Blackburn, Cathy (Michael) Ogren, Melvin (Charlene) Berry, Beatrice (James) Hedgecock, Mindy (Brian) Orr, Jamie (Homer) Decker, Michael J. Ogren, Charles Brown, and Elizabeth Christianson; and precious friends Belva York and Pamela Bunting, and so many others with whom she shared good times, hard times, laughter, tears, and love. We will miss her.
Louises family and friends are grateful for the kindness and love given to her by the staff of Tendercare West of Lansing.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 10 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment took place in Bear Lake cemetery, Laketon Township, North Muskegon, Michigan at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions in Louises memory were suggested as a donation to the donors church or the local unit of the American Red Cross.

Cheryl Darlene Bennett
April 12, 1947 - September 3, 2004

Cheryl Darlene Bennett, age 57, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2004 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. Cheryl was born on April 12, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Stanley and Blanche (Chamberlain) Bennett.
Cheryl was a secretary for the Tribal Police for many years, and also had worked for Hitatchi in Edmore for a period of time. She was a member of the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and supported missionaries in Guatemala. She was a lifetime area resident.
Survivors include her children: Brad Bennett and Tiffany Bennett, both of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Betty and Morris Nahmabin of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 from the Tabernacle of the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon and Mr. Phil Bird officiating. The family had suggested memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Joanne Eileen Wiesener
October 17, 1930 - September 3, 2004

Joanne Eileen Wiesener, age 73, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2004 at her home. Joanne was born on October 17, 1930 in Midland, Michigan, the daughter of Frank Earl and Helen (Piegols) Wilson. On June 23, 1978, she married Fred Wiesener in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area for over 50 years.
Joanne worked as a grade school teacher and taught in several school districts in Michigan. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was an avid bridge player, a member of the Red Hats Society, she volunteered with Art Reach, was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, working with both the blood drives and the blood bank. She enjoyed going to Acapulo, Mexico. She very much enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Joanne was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Fred; 2 daughters: Cindy and Bill Walz of Mt. Pleasant, and Kathy (Doremire) and Scott Hoffman of Huntington Woods, Michigan. 3 grandchildren: Francesca Walz, and Helen and Jack Hoffman. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 brother.
A memorial luncheon was held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 12 noon at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club. Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan.

Marie Phyllis Keehbauch
August 14, 1920 - August 31, 2004

Marie Phyllis Keehbauch, age 84, of Whitney, Texas, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the American Hospice, Town Hall Estates, Whitney, Texas. Marie was born on August 14, 1920 in Allegan, Michigan, the daughter of Leon Christian and Thora Mae (Ball) Sebright. On December 6, 1939, she married Bernhard Ben Keehbauch in Hopkins, Michigan.
Marie was a member of the Leaton United Methodist Church for many years where she was active participant in church activities and in the 4-H program. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her family.
Marie is survived by her two sons, Thomas J. and Barbara Keehbauch of Clayton, California, and Ronald L. and Loni Keehbauch of Whitney, Texas; three grandchildren, Dannyelle Potter, Natalie Harrison, and Thomas Keehbauch; two great grandchildren, Haley and Cole Potter; and four brothers, Raymond and Jean Sebright, Merton Sebright, Donald and Joan Sebright, and James Sebright. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, and a daughter, LeAnn.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Fischer and Rev. Susan Olsen officiating. Interment followed in Denver Township cemetery, Isabella County, Michigan. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Leaton United Methodist Church and the church building fund.

Kenneth E. Stalter
July 18, 1929 -- August 28, 2004

Kenneth E. Stalter, age 75, of Mecosta and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Kenneth had his family at his side.
Kenneth was born July 18, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, the son Gale and Orpha (Aryis) Stalter. He graduated in the class of 1948 from Shepherd High School. Kenneth served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Korea. On November 13, 1954, he and Joan Lamb were married in Mt. Pleasant. Kenneth was employed as a painter at Central Michigan University. After retirement, he enjoyed his lake home, golfing, and traveling.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Joan of Mecosta; three children, Mark and Jill Stalter of Mt. Pleasant, Carrie and John Kasper of Belmont, and Gary Stalter of Shepherd; grandchildren, Joseph (Kathy) Stalter, Amy Stalter, and Emily, Katie, and Molly Kasper; a brother, Don (Judy) Stalter of Mt. Pleasant; a brother in law, Larry (Judy) Lamb of Laingsburg, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant children, Kevin and Susan.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Boley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Salt River cemetery in Shepherd. Friends may call at the Helms Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan.

Nina G. Gover
September 15, 1929 - August 16, 2004

Nina Gover age 74 of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at her home. Nina was born September 15, 1929 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Garold and Helen Withers Conaway. She grew up in the oil fields of Oklahoma and southern Illinois. Nina moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1947, graduated from MPHS, and received her teaching degree in home economics and art from Central Michigan Teachers College.
On December 24, 1951, she married Robert Paul Gover at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. They spent two years in North Carolina during his Marine Corp service. Nina owned and operated Gover City Fabrics with her husband. She had a great sense of humor, had a great love of fabrics and quilting, and enjoyed working with stained glass. She had a love of words, an encyclopedic knowledge of movie trivia, and found great pleasure in family travel. Nina also shared her love of piano playing with her children and her vocalist husband.
Nina is survived by her children, Noel and Glenn Brakke of Wolverton, MN, Paula Gover of Mt. Pleasant, Mark and Diana Gover of Lansing, and Garold and Yvonne Gover of Puyallup, WA; her beloved cat, Chance; five grandchildren, Aaron, Katie, Maxwell, Elle, Robert, and David; and a sister, Hope Evett of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1986; and a brother, James.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 19, 2004 from the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. A private family interment service was held a Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Nina G. Gover Memorial Fund.

Spenser Brittain, Jr.
December 28, 1913 - August 3, 2004

Spenser Brittain, Jr. age 90 of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at his home. Spenser was born December 28, 1913 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Spenser and Cecelia (Davis) Brittain.
Spenser married the former Alene Sears on March 21, 1968 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by first wife, Louise Almy Brittain. He lived in Mt. Pleasant since 1991, and also lived in Saginaw and Grand Rapids. Spenser was employed as a mechanical engineer and a facilities engineer for American Seating for many years. He was a graduate of Carnegie Tech. earning a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, the Wabon Masonic Lodge #305 F&AM for many years, the Grand Rapids Yacht Club where he enjoyed sailing and racing with the club members, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he enjoyed teaching people water safety and sailing. He was a member of the Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxiliary where he was a popcorn seller for the auxiliary.
Survivors include his wife, Alene, a son Spenser John Brittian and his wife Beverly of Lapeer, MI, a daughter in law Suzanne Brittain of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Anne Dameron of Columbus, OH. He was preceded in death by his first wife, a son David Lloyd Brittain, and a brother Warner Brittain.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Shugert of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment followed in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Dr. Herbert A. Bugbee
October 12, 1918 -- August 3, 2004

Dr. Herbert A. Bugbee, age 85, a lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, died peacefully at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, August 3, 2004. Herb was born on October 12, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of George and Elizabeth Engwis Bugbee.
Herb served in the Army Air Corp, stationed in England where he flew very dangerous missions over Germany during WWII. On being honorably discharged from the service, he and his brother Bill built several houses in Texas and California. Herb also built several houses here in Mt. Pleasant. He then got his Optometrists degree from the Chicago School of Optometry and practiced in Clare, Mt. Pleasant, and Shepherd. Herb married Mona Wooten on June 5, 1971 in Clare, MI. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially Florida and Alaska. He retired in 1978 and then enjoyed family functions and traveling.
Herb is survived by his wife, Mona of Mt. Pleasant; a sister in law, Esther Bugbee of Fripp Island, SC; a brother in law, Ed Cote of Flint, MI; Monas children, Mona Dale Marier of Mt. Pleasant, Star Ryan of Florida, Terry and Wendy Wooten of Elk Rapids, and Sherry and Dick Krchmar of Florida; eight nieces and nephews, Bette Sowle Blake of Lake Orion; Bill and Peg Sowle of Mt. Pleasant, Ruth Anne Sowle of Mt. Pleasant, Judy Kelly and Bud Bowers of Vashon Island, WA, Jim and Nancy Cote of Novi, MI, Susie Kelly and Hugh Smith of Petoskey, Dr. John and Leslie Cote of Flint, and Barbara Bugbee and Bob DeBartolo of Fripp Island, SC; and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, George W. Bill and Grace Bugbee, Gladys and Athel Zufelt, Elizabeth Liz and Sid Sowle, Ruth and Jack Kelly, Russ Bugbee, and Doris Cote; and one nephew, Bob Zufelt.
For the past few years, Herb had been in poor health and required additional care. He resided for short periods at Tendercare and Country Place both in Mt. Pleasant. His wife, Mona, was a daily visitor, and her loving attention was a great support for Herb during his illness.
Family graveside services will be held at a later date at Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimers Association. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Russell Bugbee
1915 - 2004

Russell Bugbee, age 89, of Fripp Island, South Carolina and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, died Friday, July 30, 2004 in Fripp Island, SC. Russell was the son of George A. and Elizabeth Engwis Bugbee. He was raised and educated in Mt. Pleasant. Russell served in the Army Air Corp as a corporal in the Air Europe Offensive during WWII. After the Military, he worked for Sidney Sowle and Son Moving and Storage in Mt. Pleasant.
Russell was married to Esther Peacock of Barryton and they relocated to California. In California, he was employed for 25 years by Suburban Water Systems. After retiring, he spent several years in Northern California near his daughter and family and moved with them to Fripp Island, SC in 1998.
Russell was survived by his wife, Esther Peacok Bugbee; a daughter, Barbara A. DeBartolo; and two grandsons, Robert E. DeBartolo, Jr. and Johnathan Beauregard DeBartolo. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Gladys Zufelt, Elizabeth Sowle, Ruth, Kelly, Doris Cote; and two brothers, George W. Bugbee and Dr. Herbert A. Bugbee.
Graveside memorial services were held on Monday, August 16, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements were entrusted to the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Edwin L. Barr
July 16, 1927 - July 29, 2004

Edwin Lawrence Barr, age 77, of Traverse City and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at his home in Traverse City. Ed was born July 16, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Lawrence Edward and Aileen Bellows Barr. He married the former Mary Jo Yost on December 13, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Mary Jo preceded him in death on September 25, 1988.
Ed was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department for 35 years retiring in 1985 as a Captain. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Retired Police Officers Association, and the Masonic Lodge of Mt. Pleasant. He served his country in the Army during WWII. Ed enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting.
Ed is survived by his children, Deb Barr of Mt. Pleasant, Greg Barr of Traverse City, and Nancy Barr of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and two sisters in law, Margaret Lea Sawade of Casa Grande, AZ and Leona M. Hoot of Franklin, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jo in 1988; a son, Larry.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Cremation followed with interment Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Community Cancer Fund.
