Elsie Kequom Pego
March 19, 1926 - February 10, 2004

One of Gods angels has left us to finally take her place above after a long struggle with illness. Elsie was a beloved mother, grandmother, ministers wife and teacher, who touched us all. She was born in Hart, Michigan in 1926. She married James C. Pego in 1949 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. For their love of God, the two of them served in the Nazarene churches they were called to, in both Michigan and Oklahoma. Elsie spent many hours in heartfelt prayer for others.
For the love of her family, she taught love and kindness through her actions. She taught us her love of reading and the arts. Elsie was educated in her native tongue, and she taught us to be proud to be Indian. She showed us her love with her sewing, making beautiful quilts for family members, and elaborate Barbie clothes for her only granddaughter. She spoiled us to the best of her ability, while maintaining deep respect for the small pleasures in life.
Elsie was an incredible mentor in education, graduating from college in the same year her son graduated from high school. She completed a masters degree at the age of 57, leaving an indelible mark of pride on those who loved her, which she responded to with characteristic humility.
She was survived by her brothers and sisters in law, Frank and Phyllis Kequom and Tony and Linda Kequom; son, David Pego of Brookings, South Dakota; a granddaughter and her husband, Dr. Christina Pego Murray and Jason Murray, along with their children Jackson and John-Thomas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a grandson, Anthony Pego, of San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev James C. Pego; her father, Joseph Kequom and mother Susan Sharkey Kequom; brothers, Isaac and Dennis Kequom; and a sister, Gertrude Baker.
