May 29, 1948 - January 5, 2004

Paul Edmund Shomin, Sr., age 55, of Mt. Pleasant, MI passed away Monday, January 5, 2004 at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Fr. Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Francis Catholic cemetery in Petoskey, MI. Friends may call at Pauls home at 611 S. Kinney Street in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, January 7 and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, January 8 after 1 p.m. Friends desiring to make a memorial contribution may wish to consider the family. Envelopes are available at the family home or at helms Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant.
Paul was born on May 29, 1948 in Petoskey, Michigan to Albert Leroy and Phyliis (Shomin) Shomin. He married the former Linda Sprague on June 13, 1975 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a Mt. Pleasant area resident since 1976. Paul was Pit Boss for the Soaring Eagle casino and resort for many years. He was a member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Ottawa Indians in Harbor Springs. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Anthony Paul (Verna) Sams of Traverse City, Paul Jr. (Mary) Shomin of Mt. Pleasant, Rose (Rodney) Jackson of Mt. Pleasant, Elizabeth Shomin of Lansing, Bernice Davidson of Shepherd, and Timothy (Kelly) Sprague of Midland; father, Albert Leroy Shomin of Grand Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gary (Janet) Shomin of Grand Rapids and george Shomin of Petoskey; 7 sisters, Janice (Fred) Shackleford of Petoskey, Marilyn (Marshall) Muskovins of Muskegon, Christine Ann Shomin of Grand Rapids, Angela (Ronald) Patterson of Boston, MA, Catherine (William) Rotan of AL, Jacqueline (Donald) Meyers of FL, and Vivian (Wayne) Enders of Grand Rapids.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis; 2 daughters, Sarah Jo Shomin and Christina Lynn Shomin; and a brother, Leonard James Shomin.

Roger Alan Strong
May 22, 1940 - January 4, 2004

Roger Alan Strong, age 63, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Roger was born on May 22, 1940 in Merrill, Michigan to Orlin and Beatrice (Swarthout) Strong. He married Judy Snyder on December 21, 1996 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Roger lived in Mt. Pleasant for the past 7 years, moving here from Merrill where he spent most of his life. He was a journeyman electrician for Dow Corning for over 30 years. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Merrill, and enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and dancing.
Roger is survived by his wife, Judy Snyder; children, Teresa Renon of Grayling, Susan (Steve) Bridges of Chesaning, and Brenda Strong of Saginaw; step-son, Don (Pam) Kent of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Ashley, Sydney and Jack Bridges, Jeremy Myers, Monica DeMerell, Marie DeMerell, Morgan DeMerell, Mallery DeMerell, Roxanne (Marty) Smith, Sarah (Jay) Carl, Stephanie (Jeff) Sandel, Anthony Kent, and Shane (Cara) Kent; great grandchildren, Juliet DeMerell, Gavin DeMerell, Tamika Carl, Amber Smith, Andrew Kent, Tyler Kent, Jonathan Sandel, and Ethan Sandel; and a brother, Leon Strong of Merrill.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Strongs daughter, Susan Bridges, officiating. Friends called at the Helms Funeral Home from 911 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2004.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Gary.

Junior Robert Woodbury, Jr.
July 26, 1954 - January 3, 2004

Junior Robert Woodbury, Jr. age 49 of Shepherd, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at his home. He was born July 26, 1954 in Carson City, Michigan, the son of Junior Robert Woodbury, Sr. and Pansy Wheeler Jackson. Junior married Nancy Wing in 1975 in Midland County. He was a lifetime resident of the area. He was an auto repair mechanic and handyman.
Junior is survived by his wife, Nancy of Stanton; two sons, Keith and Buddy of Stanton; his mother, Pansy Woodbury of Shepherd; a granddaughter, Sheryl Lynn of Stanton; three brothers, David Lee Woodbury, Michael Lynn Woodbury, and Patrick Lynn Woodbury; two sisters, Caroline Overton and Susan Marie Ryckman; three special nieces and nephews, Rusty, Jimmy, and Jenny; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Sally; and a brother, Jimmy.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 9, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Boley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at Greendale Township cemetery, Midland County, Michigan. Memorial contributions were suggested to the family.

Lillian Pearl Joslin
October 2, 1922 - January 2, 2004

Lillian P. Joslin, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, January 2, 2004 in Naples, Florida. Lillian was born October 2, 1922 in Farwell, Michigan, the daughter of John W. and Viola M. (Tiedman) Moore. She married Neal Edward Joslin, Sr.
Lillian lived all her life in the Mt. Pleasant area until moving to Naples, Florida in 1997. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church and was a secretary and bookkeeper for Mid State Plumbing. Lillian was also a homemaker who enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Lillian is survived by her children, Nancy and Chuck Fitzpatrick of Mt. Pleasant, Rex and Anita Joslin of Mt. Pleasant, Neal Ed and Claudia Joslin, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, and Lori and Bill McFarlane of Naples, Florida; a son in law, Gregory House of Rosebush, MI; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers in law, Dale and Jan Joslin of Mt. Pleasant and Jim Joslin of Mt. Pleasant.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neal Joslin, Sr. in 1985; a daughter, JoAnn House; a sister in law, Nina Joslin; a brother in law, Leo Joslin; two brothers, Walter Moore and William Moore; and a sister, Mary Harvey.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 11:00 AM from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Fr. Robert Byrne of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Gardens in Mt. Pleasant.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan.

Dorothy Harris
January 23, 1912 -- January 2, 2004

Dorothy Harris, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, January 2, 2004 at Country Place Senior Care Center in Mt. Pleasant. She was born January 23, 1912 in Remus, MI, the daughter of George Wesley and Effie Deona Furman Harris.
Dorothy was survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and a sister.

Carol Jean Gibisas
January 9, 1937 - January 1, 2004

Carol Jean Gibisas, age 66, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, died on Thursday morning, January 1, 2004 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Carol was born January 9, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Cecilia Usitola Pilch. She attended Hammond Grade School and graduated from Harrison High School in Chicago, Illinois. Carol enjoyed playing bingo and dancing. She was a loving mother and friend with a wonderful sense of humor.
Carol will be sadly missed by her son and his wife, Richard and Amy Gibisas of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; a daughter Debra Gibisas and her husband Adrian of Pensacola, Florida, a daughter and her husband, Susan and Rick Vodicka of Mt. Pleasant, a son, Robert Gibisas of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a son and his wife, Craig and Lisa Gibisas of Vassar, Michigan, a daughter, Tammy Gibisas of Vassar, Michigan, a daughter and her husband, Carol and Greg Golden of Pensacola, Florida, and a daughter and her husband, Jodi and Chris Palmreuter of Frankenmuth, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Aitken of Palos Heights, Illinois and Joanne Lapiana of Riverside, Illinois; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; and especially her friend, Anita Donnelly.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 5, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Linda Drozd officiating. Interment followed in Calvary cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions weresuggested to the wishes of the family.

Katherine Sharlotta Pond
May 25, 1943 - February 20, 2006

Katherine Sharlotta Pond, age 62, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Stanwood Free Methodist Church, 7486 Stanwood Dr., Stanwood, Michigan.

Debra Sue Dobbs
April 4, 1961 - February 11, 2006

Debra Sue Dobbs, age 44, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home, with Pastor Andy Perschbecher officiating. Interment will be in Denver Township cemetery.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the needs of the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Debra was born on Tuesday, April 4, 1961 in Cass City, Michigan. She was the daughter of Wayne McDowell and Thelma Brown.
She was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant, Michigan area who had previously worked as a nurses aide in Florida.
Debra is survived by her companion, Kevin B. Harry; daughter, Amy Brown, mother, Thelma Brown, a brother, Dennis McDowell, a sister, Cathy (James Cox) Ernst, aunts and uncles: John and Judy Gifford, Ray and Fran Fischer, Robert and Georgia Shirey; many cousins, and extended family members, Minnie Harry Buisking, Cheryl Smith, and Montie Heisting.

Shane Lee Robert, Jr.
February 6, 2006

Shane Lee Robert, Jr., infant son of Shane Robert, Sr. and Elizabeth Jackson, was born and died on Monday, February 6, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Shane is survived by his parents, Shane and Elizabeth; sisters: Haileyrose, Loren, Katherine, Nichole, and Abagail; grandparents: Jack and Deanna Fenton, and Beverly Jackson; great grandfather: Gary Robert, Sr.; Uncles: Michael Bryant, Arthur Jackson, Terry Jackson, Harry Jackson, and William Loonsfoot; aunts: Jennifer Fenton, Bonnie Jackson, Janet Jackson, Carolyn Jackson, Mandi Holland, and Athena Jackson; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gordon H. Jackson, Sr.; and a cousin, David Kenny.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 1 p.m. from Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment took place in Memorial Gardens cemetery with his grandfather, Gordon H. Jackson, Sr.

Edna May Cohoon Thompson
July 11, 1923 - February 2, 2006

Edna May Cohoon Thompson, born Wednesday, July 11, 1923 in Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of Mark and Kittie Pearl Abbott, passed away on Thursday February 2, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Methner officiating.
Friends may gather with the family at Helms Funeral Home on Monday from 11a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
The Family suggests memorial contributions to Community Cancer Services, Diabetes Association, Heart Foundation, or for the Hearing Impaired. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge, VFW Auxiliary, Isabella County Commission on Aging. Foster Grand Parents, Adult Day Care and Riverview Apartments Entertainment Chairperson.
She is survived by four children: David L. (Judy) Cohoon, Karen E. (Walter) Voight, Patricia A. Norten, and Michael F. (Kathleen) Cohoon; nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
She was the last of ten children with four sisters and five brothers, she was also preceded in death by a daughter Sandra L Schafer, two husbands: David S. Cohoon and David E. Thompson; and a son-in-law Eugene C. Norten.

Harlan B. Kumler
September 30, 1919 - January 29, 2006

Harlan B. Kumler passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at his home, on School Section Lake, Mecosta County, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Helms Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Boley officiating. A Moose Lodge memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 7 p.m.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Mecosta County Senior Citizens Center.
Harlan was born on Tuesday, September 30, 1919, the fourth of five children, born to Harley Bright and Mary Belle Kumler, in Fulton County, Indiana. He attended grade school at Kewanna, Indiana until his family moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1932 where his father opened and operated the Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home for two years. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1937 and went to work for his father who was then in the construction business, building mostly federal post offices and other federally funded construction. He worked for his father for about five years. He was an avid golfer, loved the game, and played it for some sixty years. Harlan was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge.
On January 3, 1942 he married Maxine Elaine Bruce and they lived in the Detroit area where he worked in a defense plant for two years. In January 1944 he enlisted in the Army Air Force Cadet Training Program and graduated in June 1945 as a 2nd Lieutenant with a navigators rating. He was discharged from the Air Force in November of 1945. At this time he and his family (his wife Maxine and a 2 month old son Michael) took up residence in Mt. Pleasant where he went to work for Ferro Manufacturing company. He worked for Ferros for 38 years. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Planning Commission for a couple years in the early 1960s. He retired in 1983 and moved to a home he built at School Section Lake.
After 31 years of marriage his wife passed away in 1973. He had no desire to remarry for at that time he had two children at home, an 11 year old and a 14 year old. His parents and three sisters (Margaret Hargrave, Charlotte Brown, and Florence Smith) preceded him in death. He is survived by three children: Michael J. and Jenny Kumler of Ceres, CA, Karl C. and Tammy Kumler of Elwell, MI, and Mary E. (Kumler) and Robert Gibbs of Breckenridge, CO; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one sister: Mrs. Mary Ann Bush of Greensboro, NC.

Donald Lee Hogan
November 14, 1930 - January 20, 2006

Donald Lee Hogan, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2006 at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. No funeral services are planned.
