Arthur J. Puruleski

Arthur J. Puruleski, 86, a resident of Sterling Heights, formerly of Detroit, died Friday, March 10, 2000 in Crittenton Hospital, Detroit. He was born July 20, 1913, in Detroit.

Mr. Puruleski was a retired postal clerk in Detroit for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his sons, Paul (Christine), Thomas (Anita) and Richard (Judy); sister, Lucille Chase; grandchildren, Robert, Gregory, David, Evan, Richard and Matthew. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Blase Catholic Church, 12151 15 Mile Road, Sterling Heights.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road, Warren. Additional visitation is 10:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. There will be a Scripture service at 7 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Patricia J. Radford

Patricia Joan Radford, 57, a 10-year resident of Clawson, formerly of Royal Oak, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born March 18, 1942, in Ferndale.

Mrs. Radford was an extremely outgoing person, who would talk to anyone she happened to meet and would gladly tell her life story. She enjoyed arts and crafts, including beadwork and cross-stitch. She enjoyed gardening, and loved tending to the roses and other flowers around her house. She played plenty of bingo and helped with the Royal Oak Eagles. In 1995 she received a heart transplant and became very active in the Gift of Life Association. She received awards for competing in the Transplant Olympics. She was very devoted to her parents and grandchildren. She cooked for and played cards with her parents, and always had a good time playing grandma. Her love for children led her to a part-time job as a nanny, and she made it a point to be very involved with all the children under her watch. A relative said, "She will be dearly missed not only by her family, but by the many people around her whose lives she touched."

She is survived by her children, Carol (James) Monroe, Dennis (Renee) White, Matthew Swanigan, Walter Swanigan, and Thomas Nathan Thompson; brother, Daniel (Cindy) Vandercook; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., Clawson, with the Rev. Charles T. Pentecost, The Church of God of Prophecy officiating. Burial will be at Oakview cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Sally Zukowski

Sally Zukowski, 83, of Detroit, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Mount Clemens General Hospital, Mount Clemens. She was born May 27, 1916, in Altoona, Pa.

Mrs. Zukowski was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Bob (Margarete); daughter, Shirley (Joseph) Olex; grandchildren, Sundee, Sherree, Robyn and Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Breanne, Brad and Cody. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons funeral home, 36900 Schoenherr, Sterling Heights. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Sylvia A. Brown

Sylvia Arlene Brown, 65, of Clinton Township and a 40-year resident of Macomb County, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at her home. She was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Detroit.

Ms. Brown was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her son said, "She was a devoted single mother and grandmother."

She is survived by her children, Chris (Leanne), Lorne, Spencer, and Holly (Steven) Grines; and grandchildren, Sydney, Rachel and Steven.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield, Clinton Township, with the Rev. Gerry Battersby officiating.

Visitation is 6-7 p.m. today.

Patricia Calderwood-Lenski

Patricia Calderwood-Lenski, 75, a longtime resident of Warren, formerly from Hazel Park, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at her home. She was born April 19, 1924, in Detroit.

Mrs. Calderwood-Lenski worked in sales for various retailers. She was a 48-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and reading.

She is survived by her sons, Robert (Joanne) McGreger, William Calderwood and Patrick Calderwood; daughters, Ruth Brasgalla, Mary (Charles) McGuckin and Rita (Robert Jocis) Calderwood; sister, Cecilia (Clifford) Simmons; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Rita Higgins; and brother, Joseph Higgins.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Donald Catholic Church, 16300 12 Mile Road, Roseville, with the Rev. Michael Donovan officiating. Arrangements were handled by D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home, Warren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Michigan, 22811 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.

Gilbert E. Clarke

Gilbert Eric Clarke, 70, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Fla. He was born March 14, 1929, in Detroit.

Mr. Clarke was retired as a dispatcher for Interstate Motor Freight and served in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He was a 1947 graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit.

He is survived by his children, James Gilbert (Esther) of Chesterfield Township, Theresa Kay of Harrison Township, Martha Jane (Roger) Romas of Marine City, David Eric (Jennifer) of Fort Benning, Ga., and Kathleen Janet (Andrew) Kwart of Sterling Heights; and grandchildren, Derrick, Kevin, Joshua, Jenna, Kaylee, Drew, Trevor, Jay and Rachael. He was predeceased by his wife, Waneta Pearl, Oct. 2, 1987.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 51850 North Ave., Macomb Township, with the Rev. John Carr officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family plans to establish a memorial fund in Gilbert's name.

Elizabeth M. Feiler

Elizabeth M. Feiler, 94, of Fraser, died Monday, March 13, 2000, in Fraser. She was born July 25, 1905, in Yugoslavia.

Mrs. Feiler is survived by her children, Joseph Jr. (Shirley) and Nancy Weinhardt; siblings, Helen Massong and Mary Dippong; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter Catholic Church, Harper Woods, with the Rev. Robert Keller officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel cemetery, Troy.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. Scripture service in A.H. Peters Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Woods.

John N. Friedrich

John "Jack" N. Friedrich, 48, of Roseville, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Bi-County Community Hospital, Warren. He was born Jan. 8, 1952, in Detroit.

Mr. Friedrich was a working resident at the Salvation Army in Pontiac from 1995 through 1997. He was a musician in several bands, playing the drums and conga drums.

He is survived by his brothers, Frank (Karen) of St. Clair Shores and Jim (Karen) of Harrison Township; sister, Ethel Bakke of Huntington Woods; and nieces and nephews.

A committal service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township. A memorial service and luncheon will follow at Fern Hill Country Club, 17600 Clinton River, Clinton Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Henry Ford, 13251 E. 10 Mile Road, Suite 600, Warren, MI 48089, or the Salvation Army, 34 Oakland Ave., Pontiac, MI 48342.

Arrangements were handled by Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens.

John G. Heshczuk Sr.

John G. "Big John" Heshczuk Sr., 79, of Warren, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at his home. He was born July 5, 1920, in Hamtramck.

Mr. Heshczuk retired in 1984 as a tool and die maker from Chrysler's Warren Stamping Plant. He was a member of the UAW and Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, where he formerly served as a committee member and usher.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Szykula and Carol Muzyk, both of Warren; grandchildren, Joseph and Jennifer Szykula, and Marci Muzyk; brother, Dimitro (Mary) Heshczuk of Detroit; nephew and caregiver, Mark Nahirniak; and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Heshczuk in 1988; and son, John Jr. in 1994.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3150 Commor, Hamtramck. Burial will be at Mount Olivet cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. Panahyda service at Rudy Funeral Home, 25650 Van Dyke, Center Line. Additional visitation is 9:30-10 a.m. Friday at the church.

J. Donald Iafrate

J. Donald Iafrate, 52, of Macomb Township, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla. He was born June 12, 1947, in Detroit.

Mr. Iafrate was president since 1989 and chief executive officer since 1993 of Industrial Machinery and Equipment in Warren. He received the National Defense Service Medal from the U.S. Navy. He was very active in youth sports, devoting many hours to St. Clair Shores hockey and baseball teams. He had been retired in Naples, Fla., for the last two years due to a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his wife, Georgette Iafrate (nee Ostrowski); son, Anthony G. (Reda) Iafrate; daughter, Renae (Randy) Diegel; sisters, Regina (Greg) Hall and Loretta (Al) Johnson; best friends, Bob and Judy Cass, and their children, Katie and Lyndsay; and grandchildren, Jonathan Lee, and Nicholas Matthew. He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Lia Iafrate.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Basil Catholic Church, 22800 Schroeder, Eastpointe, with the Rev. Thomas Physician officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection cemetery in Clinton Township.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday and 3-9 p.m. Friday with an evening Scripture service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons funeral home, 36900 Schoenherr, Sterling Heights. Additional visitation is 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gift of Life Transplantation Society of Michigan, 2203 Platt Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48104; or to the American Diabetes Association, 30600 Telegraph, Suite 2255, Bingham Farms, MI 48025-4532.

Scott R. Marvin

Scott Randolph Marvin, 28, of Sterling Heights since 1974, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Clinton Township. He was born Nov. 9, 1971, in Rantoul, Ill.

Mr. Marvin graduated from Henry Ford High School in Sterling Heights and Michigan Tech, where he earned an electrical engineering degree. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi.

He is survived by his parents, James and Nancy; fiancee, Sunday Wiseman; siblings, Brian of Warren and Keith of Sterling Heights; and grandfather, Henry Pilkey of St. Clair Shores.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Matthias Catholic Church, 12509 19 Mile Road, Sterling Heights. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery, Clinton Township.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road, Utica. Additional visitation is 10:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Nancy J. Muylaert

Nancy J. Muylaert, 51, of Macomb Township, formerly from Utica, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at St. Joseph's Mercy of Macomb West hospital, Clinton Township. She was born March 29, 1948, in Detroit.

Mrs. Muylaert was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Shelby Township.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Gerald J.; children, Curt (Tanya) Muylaert of New Haven, Patrick (Melissa) Muylaert of Chesterfield Township, Scott Muylaert of Macomb Township and Katie Muylaert of Macomb Township; grandchildren, Brett, Majesta, Adrianna and Dakota; brothers, Alphonse (Sharon) DeLamielleure, Darrel (Carolyn) DeLamielleure, Tom (Miriam) DeLamielleure, Dave (Sharon) DeLamielleure and Joe (Gerri) DeLamielleure; sisters, Laura (Joe) Suida, JoAnn (George) Pagels, Marlene (Dave) Farmer, and Margie (Mike) Casteel; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 54045 Schoenherr, Shelby Township, with the Rev. Jerome J. Machlik officiating.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. Scripture service at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall, Utica. Additional visitation is 9:30-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.
