Lawler, Russell Eugene
April 24, 1915 - July 13, 2003

Russell Eugene Lawler, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

A Funeral Mass for Russell will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with Fr. Don Henkes officiating. Interment will follow in St. Henry’s cemetery in Rosebush.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, from 2–5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Assoc. or to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Russell was born on April 24, 1915, in Isabella County, the son of Thomas and Lottie (Little) Lawler. He was baptized on May 16, 1915. Russell’s godparents were Burt Little and Margurite Gallagher. He served as a sergeant of the 37th fighter squadrant for the United States Army during World World II. Russell was certified in chemical warfare, serving in Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, Po Valley, No Appennines, Southern and Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Air Offensive Europe, Air Combat Balkans campaigns. He earned a Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon , European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 silver Battle Stars and 2 Bronze. Russell married Mae Lyon on February 17, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church. He worked for Long and Wetzel, Pure Oil Co., and tended the store at Delwin. He worked 25 years as an alternate operator for Dow Chemical until his retirement in May of 1980. He was a member of the Borley-Hanel V.F.W. Post and Sacred Heart Church. Russell hobbies included hunting and fishing boating, (he went by the nickname “The Captain”) at Coldwater Lake. He was a brave and brilliant man.

Russell is survived by his children, Thomas Lawler of Scotville, Donald Lawler (Dorothy) of Harrison, Mary Kay Hannah (Chris) of Northport, AL, and James Lawler of Mt. Pleasant; 7 grandchildren, Tom Lawler, Kate Lawler, Don Lawler, Jr. & Lisa Lawler, Dillion Hannah, Robert & Andrew Schelke; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Philomen Schoen (Hart) of Mt. Pleasant.

Russell was preceded in death by his first wife Mae Lawler on March 27, 2003, and his brother Thomas Lawler at age 7, Daughter-in-lawPaula Lawler on September 20, 2002.

Lueder, Emil A.
August 4, 1911 - July 13, 2003

Emil A. Lueder, 91, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Emil will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2175 S. Coldwater Rd. with Pastor Jonathan C. Voss officiating. Interment will take place in Broomfield Twp. cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Emil was born on August 4, 1911, in Broomfield Twp., Michigan, the son of William and Albertina (Hein) Lueder. He married Edith Strong. Emil was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Weidman. He was a past President of the Weidman District school board and a former member of the Weidman Lions club. Emil farmed until the age of 55 then worked for CMU as a painter.

Emil is survived by his son, Leonard (Patricia) Lueder of Mason; son-in-law, John Pung of Weidman; grandchildren, Jeff (Bonnie) Lueder, Mark (Dawn) Lueder both of Holt, Scott (Renae) Pung of Mt. Pleasant, Jean (Frank) Fox of Rosebush, Roger (Kris) Pung of Beal City and Pamela (Randy) Sharrar of Weidman; 14 great grandchildren; and a brother, Arnold Lueder of McBain.

Emil was preceded in death by his wife, Edith and a daughter, Karleen Pung.

McCracken, Eleanor Bamber
February 23, 1915 - July 12, 2003

Eleanor Bamber - McCracken, 88, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at her home in Mt. Pleasant.

A Memorial Service for Eleanor will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 17th at Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael Biedenbender officiating. Visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, Eleanor’s wishes were to have gifts sent to Hospice of Central Michigan or to the Eleanor Bamber McCracken Memorial Scholarship Fund, which has been established to help business education students, graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, further their education.

Eleanor was born on February 23, 1915, the only daughter of William James Bamber and Dora (Elsman) Bamber. She graduated from Central Michigan Normal College with a BS in Business Education. Eleanor’s teaching career began in St. John’s, MI and after three years she returned to Mt. Pleasant to teach two years at Central Michigan University and then finish her last twenty-eight years of teaching at Mt. Pleasant High School in the Vocational Education Department. Eleanor retired from teaching in 1981 at which time she was elected to the MPHS teacher hall of fame. She was an active member of MPEA and other professional business organizations. She enjoyed her years with the Mt. Pleasant Women’s City Club.

Eleanor married Harold James McCracken on October 3, 1939 and they happily lived together for thirty-seven years. Harold passed away in 1976. Eleanor is survived by her son William James (Louise) McCracken and Daughter Jo Ann C. McCracken (Robert Funk). She has three granddaughters Bridget, Jessie and Kate. Eleanor lived each day to its fullest measure. She experienced the beauty of every moment and was a gifted artist. Eleanor was proud of her heritage and was pleased to have her family’s role in the development of Mt. Pleasant recognized in the Bronze Art Project.

Crawford, Ronald LeRoy
January 29, 1938 - July 11, 2003

Ronald LeRoy Crawford, 65, of Mt. Pleasant passed away with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, July 11, 2003, at Ingham Medical Center-Greenlawn Campus in Lansing.

Funeral Services for Ronald will be held on Tuesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Mr. Ivan Odor officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, from 7-9 p.m. and Monday, July 14, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to MidMichigan Gratiot Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Ronald was born on January 29, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Harry and Ina (Cline) Crawford. Ronald was a local business owner, having owned J. Murray & Company for 30 years. No matter how busy Ron was he always made time for his family, friends and customers. He also enjoyed farming, cutting wood, hunting and tinkering with cars, John Deere and Ford tractors but his true love was his work. Ron was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3977.

Ronald is survived by his children Julie (Wally) Bontrager and Kim (Craig) Price, both of Mt. Pleasant, and their mother Jackie Wills of Lake Isabella; grandchildren Justin Bontrager, Jennifer Bontrager, Connor Price, and Carter Price; his companion, Debra Frazier of Mt. Pleasant; special friend Sandy Yoder of Lake; sisters Helen Egbert of Mt. Pleasant, Marilyn Crawford of Rosebush, and Beverly Allen of Bridgeport; numerous nieces and nephews; and many business associates and friends.

Ronald was preceded in death by a son Robert Lee and his parents.

Fisher (Nimkii), Larry R.
May 3, 1943 - July 9, 2003

Larry R. Fisher (Nimkii), fourth eldest male of the Black Elk Clan, Swan Creek Band, Saginaw Chippewa, passed away on July 9, 2003, as a result of injuries incurred in a traffic accident.

Funeral Services for Larry will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Elijah Elk Cultural Center-Seventh Generation, 9767 E. Remus Road, Mt. Pleasant, with Jerry Cleveland officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Elijah Elk Cultural Center-Seventh Generation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montessori Cultural Development Fund.

Larry was born to Elijah and Luella Fisher, deceased, on May 3, 1943. He was an artist, sculptor, basket maker, silversmith, statesman, warrior, prophet and peace maker. Although he never married or fathered children, Larry affected many children’s lives by developing a curriculum to teach them their Anishnabeg heritage as director of the Saginaw School District Title IV Education Program.

Larry is survived by his sisters Naomi (Pete) Pederson, Emma Fisher, Linda (Robert) Gilliland, and brothers Cecil (Gayla) Fisher, Soloman (Garnett) Fisher, Elijah (Kay) Fisher, Antonio (Connie) Cardenas; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Long, Wilma Lucille
November 25, 1925 - July 7, 2003

Wilma Lucille Long, 77, of Lake, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2003 with her family by her side.

A Memorial Service for Wilma will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at Lake Eagles Club #3761. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice of Bay City.

Wilma was born November 25, 1925 in Fort Sill, OK, the daughter of John Franklin and Cora Lee (Owens) Hartman. She married Michael Long on October 13, 1947. They resided in Lake since 1967.Wilma was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Eagles Club #3761, Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge. She enjoyed camping, traveling and bingo.

Wilma is survived by her husband, Michael; Children, Vicki (Tom) Tabor of Madison Heights, MI and Connie (Craig) Grey of Mt. Pleasant; Grandchildren, Cheryl, Lisa, Wade (Laurie), Cindy (Mark), Vicki (Myron), Chad (Melonie) and Michael (Lisa); Great-Grandchildren, Heather, Mirandi, Courtney, Cody, Alex, Danielle, Logan and Baylee; and 2 sisters.

Wilma was preceded in death by: her parents John and Cora Lee Hartman, son Earl Hartman, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.

Hang, Sykua
April 18, 1953 - July 7, 2003

Sykua Hang, 50, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday 7, 2003 at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Funeral Services for Sykua will be held Monday July 14, 2003 at 12:00 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Youaxany Yang officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, from 6-9, Saturday, July 12, from 9-9, Sunday, July 13, from 10-10 and Monday, July 14, from 9-12 at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Sykua was born on April 15, 1953 in Xieng Khoung, Loas, the son of You Tua Hang and May Yang Hang. He married Pang Khnag Hang. Sykua was the owner of Cheng Pee Restaurant for 11 years.

Sykua is survived by his wife, Pang Khang Hang; Children Sansone Hang (Nancy Yang Hang), Kimberly Hang, Maresa Hang and Musa Hang(Panyia Vang); Father You Tua Hang; Brothers Nao Lue Hang (Zuag Kue Hang) of Charlevoix, Pang Lee Hang (Lee Vang Hang) of Mackinaw City; Sisters Phoua Hang Yang (Chong Shua Yang) of St. Ignace, Lee Hang Yang (Txwj Cheng Yang) of Grand Rapids, Zaag Hang Vaj(Kwl Ntuab Nrwg Vaj) of Fresno, CA.

Sykua was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Tswb Hang Yang.

Leiter, Michael James
March 30, 1955 - July 4, 2003

Michael James Leiter, 48, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2003, at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

Funeral Services for Michael will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Marvin Eldridge officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills cemetery in Weidman.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday, July 7, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Michael was born on March 30, 1955, in Lakeview, the son of Freeman and Muriel Leiter. He worked for Abbott Furniture in Weidman since 1986. Michael enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with his family, especially working on puzzles.

Michael is survived by his brothers Steven Leiter, Paul Leiter, Patrick (LuAnn) Leiter and Joseph Leiter, all of Weidman; sisters Rebecca (Steven) Callison and Deborah (Gregory) Peffer, all of Weidman; sister-in-law Vickie Leiter of Ovid; nieces and nephews Mitchell and Elizabeth Leiter, Abby (Patrick) Sellers and their children Brooklyn and Brock, Shawn Leiter and his son Dustin; Kristy Leiter, Stacy (Jason) Casler, Carrie Leiter, Amy Sims and her daughter Hannah, Ashley Callison, Eric Callison, Sarah Miller and Nick Peffer.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents Freeman Leiter and Muriel Miller, brother Daniel Leiter, and cousin Robert Abbott.

Zegelien, Julia Margaret
July 17, 1917 - July 3, 2003

Julia Margaret Zegelien of Saginaw passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Tendercare.

A Memorial Service is planned at a time.

Hartlep, Lennie P.
May 16, 1910 - June 30, 2003

Lennie P. Hartlep, 93, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2003, at her home in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Lennie will be held on Thursday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, with Rev. John Boley officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Lennie was born on May 16, 1910, in Fairmont, North Carolina, the daughter of John and Irene (Thompson) Andrews. She married John L. Hartlep in October 1945. Before her retirement, Lennie was employed as an anesthesiologist at Midland Hospital and then as an R.N. at Central Michigan Community Hospital and the Isabella County Medical Care Facility .

Lennie is survived by her children, Brenda Ehren of Mt. Pleasant and John (Cheryl) Hartlep of Satsuma, AL; grandchildren Scott (Renay) Ehren and David Ehren, Karie, Kevin and Kacey Hartlep; great-granddaughter Courtney Ehren; brother Rev. Chester Andrews of North Carolina and sister-in-law Sarah Andrews of North Carolina.

Lennie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 10 brothers and sisters.

Fish, Ivan E.
January 23, 1924 - June 29, 2003

Ivan E. “Ike” Fish, 79, lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away quietly after an extended illness Sunday, June 29 while at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 11 a.m. from the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church on South Mission Road in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Richard Fulkerson will of-ficiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 1 at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant from 3-9 p.m. Visitation will also take place at the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 2, from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Commission on Aging or the Family Life Center-Central Michigan Free Methodist. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Ivan was born in Mt. Pleasant, graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1942, and served his country in the Army Aircorp from 1943–46. Following World War II, Ivan returned to Mt. Pleasant, where he first worked for Pure Oil Company of Oil City, and next worked as head salesman at Ben Traines and Sons, Inc. He last worked for C&J Equipment for a short period until full retirement.
Ivan was a loving husband, active family member, and a loving and respected father — a true good man. He married Joyce E. French on November 11, 1943.

Ivan is survived by his wife; children Janice Flannigan, Richard Fish, Jerri (Greg) Pelletier, and Paul (Marian) Fish. Ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive him. While Ivan’s parents passed long ago, he was also the last of his siblings to go be with the Lord.
