Frick, Norma Marie
October 10, 1916 - August 30, 2003

Iron Mountain, Michigan

Norma Marie Frick, age 86 of Iron Mountain, formerly of Rosebush, Michigan died August 30, 2003 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Norma was born on October 10, 1916 in Isabella County to Ray Small and Sadie (Elliott) Paisley. She lived most of her life in the Mt. Pleasant area working as a medical assistant at the Davis Clinic and in a private practice for Dr. Minster. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, gardening, reading and traveling. She married August Frick on July 8, 1939 in Weidman, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2001.
She is survived by her son, Richard “Mac” (Janice) Frick, her grandchildren, Timothy Frick of Chicago, Il., Kristen (Mike) Zeitler of Luxemburg, Wi., one greatgrandchild, Aliyah Zeitler of Luxemburg, Wi., eight brothers and sisters, Virginia Bisbee of Panama City, Fl., Elizabeth (Robert) Vogel of Rosebush, Helen (Orville) Riggle of Mt. Pleasant, Arthur (Alice) Paisley of Clare, Donald (Allie) Paisley of Shepherd, Joann (Donald) Riley of Weidman, Pauline (Melvin) Schafer of Weidman, Richard (Mary) Paisley of Gladwin and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and also from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at the Clark Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on September 3, 2003 with the Dr. Rev. Martin Koeller of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kingsford, Michigan officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Gardens in Mt. Pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Children’s Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin or the Ronald MacDonald House also in Wauwatosa.

Vincent, Clarence Eugene
August 12, 1922 - August 28, 2003

Clarence Eugene “Gene” Vincent, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2003, at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.

Funeral Services for Gene will be held Saturday, August 30, at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev John Obrecht officiating. Interment will follow in Gilmore Township cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, from 4-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Lakes Renal Network. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Clarence was born August 12, 1922, in Ionia, the son of Joseph and Blanche (Cobb) Vincent. He worked at B&W Co-op as a boilermaker, retiring in 1984. He received a 50-year pin from the boilermakers for his years of service. Gene had also farmed. On October 24, 1985, he married Bernice May (Denton) Rawson. Gene was a pilot and owned his own plane. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge.

Gene is survived by his wife Bernice; his step-son Ray (Helen) Rawson of Farwell; step-grandchildren Shelly Rawson of New York, Steve (Marie) Rawson of Clare, and Dave (Amy) Rawson of Farwell; step-great-grandchildren Ashley, Allison, Emily and Brooke; his sister Margaret Burman of Weidman; and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lillian, Marjorie, Thelma, Joseph, Marion.

Moses, Betty M.
May 9, 1931 - August 26, 2003

Betty M. Moses, 72, of Weidman, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint.

Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Friday, August 29 at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry I. Nordheim officiating. Interment will take place in Two Rivers cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Betty was born on May 9, 1931, the daughter of Carl and Louicia (Simons) Krueger. She married Singleton Moses on July 12, 1952 in Remus, MI. Betty was a homemaker, an avid reader and enjoyed writing.

Betty is survived by her husband, Singleton of Weidman, children, Donald Moses of Columbus, OH, Carl Moses of Flint, MI, Rose Marie (Norman) Herrmann of Swartz Creek, MI and Nancy (Karl) Kaul of Mt. Morris, MI; grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy and Jason Moses; brothers, Arnold Krueger of Mt. Pleasant and Harold (Linda) Krueger of Weidman.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and son, Daniel.

Merrill, Stuart A.
December 1, 1915 - August 26, 2003

Stuart A. Merrill, 87, of Lady Lake, Florida, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at his residence in Florida.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, with burial in Riverside cemetery.

Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, at Clark Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, 400 S. Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Central Michigan Community Hospital of Mt. Pleasant, or a memorial of your choice. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Mr. Merrill was born December 1, 1915, to Wesley and Kathrine Klumpp Merrill of Mt. Pleasant. He married Helen Behnke on February 14, 1938 and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary before Mrs. Merrill's death in 2001.

He grew up in Mt. Pleasant, graduated from MPHS in 1933 and attended CMU. He inherited the nickname Shorty from his oil field worker father. He and his father started Shorty's Casing Crew. Mr. Merrill caught the wildcatting bug and began drilling oil wells on his own, forming Merrill Drilling Company in 1940. He was a well known and a well liked oilman in Mt. Pleasant, drilling his first producing well in 1948 west of Rosebush. Stuart spent over 70 years in the oil business and was a long time member of the Michigan Oil & Gas Association and the Independent Petroleum Association of America. He served on the Mt. Pleasant City Commission from 1962 to 1964 and again in 1977. He also served on the Isabella County Board of Commissioners from 1975-1976.

Mr. Merrill was involved in community service all his adult life. He was a member of the Elk's Club in Mt. Pleasant and Lady Lake, FL and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Pleasant. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. Stuart was an active member of the Republican Party.

After moving to Lady Lake, FL in 1990, he became a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park. He enjoyed many activities including playing bridge, golfing and staying in touch with his friends.

Mr. Merrill is survived by five daughters, Sharon (Tom) Able of Leesburg, FL, Glenda (Dan) Bookey of Mt. Pleasant, Caroline Merrill of San Francisco, CA, Sara (Jim) Thering of Mt. Pleasant, Kathrine (Ron) Sluyter of Fenton, and his son Wesley W. Merrill of Mt. Pleasant, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Donna Merrill of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Kathrine Merrill, his wife Helen in 2001 and his brother Glen "Bud" Merrill in 1981.

Muterspaugh, Dorothy Jayne
December 18, 1944 - August 25, 2003

Dorothy Jayne Muterspaugh, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2003 at the Gratiot Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church with Father Jeffrey Donnor officiating. Interment will take place in Calvary cemetery.

Visitation will be held today, August 27, from 2-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Thursday, August 28 at 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorothy Muterspaugh Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy was born on December 18, 1944 to Rita and Joseph Wezensky in Mt. Pleasant. She married Roy Muterspaugh on October 9, 1965. Dorothy graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1961. She was employed by Total-Lee Sports for the past 10 years and previously worked for American Cleaners and Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. Dorothy enjoyed her grandchildren, books, crochet and cooking.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Roy of Mt. Pleasant, children, Martina (Kevin) McCaul of Shepherd, Raymond Muterspaugh of Holt, Valerie (Steve) Ziemke of Troy and Sarah (Brian) Whitman of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Justin Spickerman, Kelly McCaul and Erin McCaul; brothers and sisters, Jim (Carol) Wezensky of Virginia, Joseph (Liz) Wezensky of Texas, Rita (Jim) Hovey of Midland, Loretta (Mike) Pung of Beal City, Carol (Frank) Hackett of Mt. Pleasant, Theresa (Ben) Ippolito of Lake Orion, George (Yvonne) Wezensky of Mt. Pleasant, Gregg (Cindy) Wezensky of Mt. Pleasant and Bernard (Tonya) Wezensky of Grand Rapids.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rita Muterspaugh, Mother-in-law and father-in-Law, Lucille and Barrett Muterspaugh and brother, Charles Wezensky.

Leaver, Nancy J.
February 17, 1939 - August 22, 2003

Nancy J. Leaver, 64, of Mt. Pleasant, went to be with her Lord on August 22, 2003 with her many friends by her side.

Funeral Services for Nancy will be held on Tuesday, August 26th at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Don Schuster officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26th from 9 a.m. until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Nancy was born February 17, 1939 in Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Jean Leaver. She was employed at Mid Michigan Industries. Nancy will be remembered for her strong passion for coffee and for her personality that was the spark at her home.

Nancy is survived by her mother Jean along with family from Allen Park, Michigan. Survivors also include her extended family: Val, Michele, Cheryl, Katie, Dave, Josh, Emily, Tunde, Janet, Hilda, Connie, Edie her housemates; Carrie and Eugene and her many friends at Mid Michigan Industries and Community Mental Health.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Howard W. Leaver.

Esch, Lynn "Curly"
December 1, 1937 - August 19, 2003

Lynn “Curly” Esch, 65, of Mecosta passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at his home.

Funeral Services for Lynn will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 4 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Don Hancock officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, August 23, from
2:30 p.m. until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Lynn was born December 1, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant the son of Donald and Florence (Cyzerook) Esch. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957 during the Korean War and was discharged with honors. He married Barbara Darling in Mt. Pleasant on June 20, 1959. Lynn was employed by Fisher Transportation for the past 13 years. He previously worked for J.B. Tractor, Darling Freight and was a mechanic for Dutcher John Deere Implement. Lynn enjoyed fishing, mechanical work and tinkering in his garage.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Barbara of Mecosta, children, Vicky Esch of Mecosta, Rick (Sue) Esch of Las Vegas, NV, Michelle (Roger) Wernette of Rodney, MI and Melinda (Charlie) Baumann of Remus and nine grandchildren.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Esch on July 8, 2003.

Kidd, Clifford "Cliff" William
June 3, 1947 - August 19, 2003

Clifford “Cliff” William Kidd, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at his home after a long struggle with bipolar disorder.

A Memorial Service for Clifford will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, with a lunch following at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jana Lynn Almeida officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.

Clifford was born June 3, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Irving William and Eunice Mae (Reeves) Kidd. He joined the Navy and was a part of USS Stallion Ocean Tug. Clifford did social service work for A.I.M. He enjoyed collecting nautical equipment, singing, playing guitar, photography, fishing and his annual motorcycle trips to his brother’s house in Minnesota and a cousin’s in Mobile, Alabama for Mardi Gras. He also was interested in Native American lore, traveling and demonstrating wood block printing. Cliff was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and A.B.A.T.E.

Clifford is survived by his parents, Irving and Eunice Kidd; brothers, Art (Beth) Kidd of Grand Marais, MN and Charles (Ann) Kidd of Gilbertville, MA; sister Karen (Bill) Wilber of Dimondale; Nieces and Nephews, David, Allison, Allan, Nena (Sarah), Nathan and Margot; case manager, Craig Boulier, his housemates at Blanchard Road Independent Living, and friends Ron Vredeveld and Jack Neal.

Sprague, Harlan "Shad" H.
January 12, 1920 - August 18, 2003

Harlan H. Sprague, 83, of Mt. Pleasant peacefully went to be with His Lord with his family at his side on Monday, August 18, 2003. Harlan left with the same grace as he lived.

Funeral Services for Harlan will be held on Friday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at the Weidman United Methodist Church with Pastor Craig Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, August 21, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Friday, August 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weidman United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Harlan was born January 12, 1920, in Weidman, the son of Alfred and Almeda Jane (Switzer) Sprague. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Harlan married Verna Taylor on April 28, 1943 in the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Parsonage. He was a welder in the oil fields until his retirement on January 1, 1983. Harlan was a talented artist in steel. Harlan was a life member of the VFW Post #4106 in Weidman, a member of the Moose Lodge #195 in Mt. Pleasant, and a member of the Weidman United Methodist Church. He enjoyed dancing, woodworking, fishing, hunting, and taking long walks.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Verna of Mt. Pleasant; children, Larry (Cherre) Sprague of Mt. Pleasant, Terry (Diane) Sprague of DeWitt, and Steven (Cristy) Sprague of Weidman; grandchildren Eric (Penny) Sprague, Lori Sprague, Aaron Sprague, Nicholas Sprague, Jason Sprague, Lydia (Daniel) Long, Nathaniel Sprague, Jamie (David) Holland, and Kevin (Jesika) Sprague; great-grandchildren Graeme, Peyton, and Alexander Sprague, Isabelle Link, and Caleb J. Sprague; brother Bill (Rosie) Sprague; sisters Catherine Shuemacher; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, R.D., Alfred and Gary; and 3 sisters Dollie, Alice and Ada.

Brownson, Faith Ann
August 16, 2003 - August 16, 2003

Faith Ann Brownson, infant daughter of Jerrod and Wendi Brownson, died on Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Central Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Faith will be held jointly with her grandmother Cynthia Brownson on Tuesday, August 19, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Community Church with Pastor Scott McKee officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Brownson, Cynthia A.
December 6, 1949 - August 15, 2003

Cynthia Ann Brownson, 53, of Beal City, died at home on Friday, August 15, 2003 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Funeral Services for Cynthia will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 11a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Community Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Scott McKee officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, August 17, from 1-5 p.m. and on Monday, August 18, from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. and at Mt. Pleasant Community Church on Tuesday, August 19, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Cindy may consider The Oncology Unit at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Cindy was born December 6, 1949 in Saginaw, the eldest daughter of John and Mary Rockowski. She married Eugene Brownson on June 24, 1972 in Saginaw.

Cindy graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Saginaw in 1968. She spent several years working at Baker-Perkins in Saginaw, where she and her husband Gene met and fell in love. Gene and Cindy married and moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1972 where Cindy embarked on a 31-year career with Isabella Bank and Trust. She graduated from the Robert M. Perry School of Banking, Central Michigan University. Beginning on the teller line in 1972, Cindy worked her way up through the ranks, becoming Senior Vice President of the Trust Department in 2000. Cindy befriended a multitude of colleagues and clients during her tenure with the bank, and all will sorely miss her.

Cindy was an active community member, participating in fund raising for the United Way and serving with the Volunteer Center’s Festival of Trees for several years. She was also a board member on the Mid Michigan Community College Foundation, where she helped establish scholarships for local students. She attended Mt. Pleasant Community Church. She was a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club.

Cindy was an avid golfer. Her other hobbies include traveling and camping with her husband, family and friends and cooking superb meals at the family hunting cabin. Most of all, though, Cindy enjoyed watching her two children grow up, marry and becoming productive, caring people. She was looking forward to retirement and dreamed of moving with Gene to a cozy log cabin on a pristine lake.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Gene; her children, Jerrod (Wendi) Brownson of Mt. Pleasant and Melissa (Jason) Benway of Grand Haven; her mother, Mary Rockowski of Saginaw; and her five siblings, Jim (Cheryl) Rockowski and their sons Sawyer and Matthew of Cook, Wash., Terry Rockowski and his daughter Katie of Huntington, Ind., Lori (Jim) Lyon and their son Brandon of Saginaw, Carol (Bob) Duby and their daughters Shannon and Nicole of Saginaw, and Tom Rockowski and his daughter Gabrielle of Springtown, Tex. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Marja Brownson of Mt. Pleasant, sister-in-law, Marlene (Dan) McGuirk of Alma; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and her dearest friend, Joanne Goodell of Sarasota, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Rockowski in 1994; and her father-in-law, Howard Brownson in 2001.
