Conger, Ione Marie
February 3, 1935 - January 2, 2004

Ione Marie Conger, age 68, of Lake, Michigan passed away on Friday January 2, 2004 at her residence.

Funeral Services for Ione will be held on Monday January 5th at 2 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt.Pleasant. Pastor Craig Adams of the Weidman United Methodist Church will officiate with interment in the North Brinton cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday January 4th from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Michigan or the Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel .

Ione was born February 3, 1935 in Cass City, Michigan. The daughter of Kilburn Parson and Lillian (Ward) Parson. Ione graduated from Remus High School. She married Maynard A. Conger on August 21, 1985 . Ione was active with the Weidman V.F.W. Auxillary, the Clare Moose Lodge, Lake Eagles and the Mt. Pleasant American Legion.

Ione is survived by her husband, Maynard “Mac” Conger of Lake, children, Terry (Jean) Schafer of Weidman, Jack (April) Dalgleish of Barryton, Tina Dalgleish of Rochester Hills, Gregg (Dawn) Conger of Weidman, Dennis (Kathy) Conger of Royal Oak, and Tom (Lisa) Conger of Mason, Tennesee. 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Ione was preceded in death by both parents.

Serier, Maryann B.
July 30, 1912 - January 1, 2004

Maryann B. Serier, age 91 of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Thursday January 1, 2004 at her home.

The family of Maryann B. Serier will receive friends on Monday January 5 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Private family service will take place with the Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Maryann was born July 30, 1912 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Dennis McCarthy and Geraldine (Nagelkirk) McCarthy. Maryann married Lester Serier December 25, 1935 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She worked in the payroll at Central Michigan University for 22 years retiring in 1974. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, worked as treasurer for United Way of Isabella Co., and was a thrift store volunteer.

Maryann is survived by 2 daughters, Sally J. Buckley of Mt. Pleasant, and SuLin (Jim) Egan of Chicago, Illinois. 4 grandchildren, Gregg Buckley of Grand Rapids and Tim Buckley of Mt. Pleasant, Payam Maghsoudi of Chicago and James Egan of Chicago, Ill.

Maryann was preceded in death by her husband: Lester Serier in 1993, son Jack Dennis Serier in 1969 and both parents.

Bidstrup, Marvin Carol
August 24, 1933 - January 1, 2004

Marvin Carol Bidstrup, age 71, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away in his home on January 1, 2004.

Memorial Services for Marvin will be held on Saturday January 10th from the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Terry Nordheim officiating. Cremation has taken place.

The family will receive friends on Friday January 9th from 6:30-8:30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mt. Pleasant, and on Saturday January 10th from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the HATS Humane Animal Treatment Society or to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Marvin was born August 24, 1933, the son of Carl and Mildred (Esch) Bidstrup. Marvin married Merlyn Ewbank on October 25, 1986 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Mr. Bidstrup worked as a teacher and administrator with area public schools for 30 years. Along with the last 20 years with the Farwell Public Schools before retiring in 1987. Marvin served in the Army and was a member of the ROTC Reserves. He was also a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed working at the church. He was loved by his many friends and acquaintances.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 18 years, Merlyn Bidstrup of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Joe Bidstrup and special friend (Peggy McPhearson) of Clare and Susan (Tom) Barnes and their children who Marvin was especially proud of Hayley and Shelby all of St. Johns. Marvin is also survived by his Mother, Mildred and his sister Darlene (Dick) Royce of Grand Ledge.

Marvin was preceded in death by his Father, Carl Bidstrup.

Kagle, Lois Nuss
October 18, 1922 - December 19, 2003

Lois Nuss Kagle, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Lois will be held on Tuesday, December 23, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Pastor Dale Freed of the New Life Ministry will officiate. Interment will take place in the Riverside cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 21, from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, December 22, from 3-5 and 7-9 at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Cancer Serviced. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Lois was born October 18, 1922, in Monongahela, PA, the daughter of George and Hazel (McClure) Nuss. She married Arthur Kagle on March 29, 1947, in Pennsylvania. Lois worked as an operator for Bell Telephone Company. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Lois is survived by her husband of 56 years, Arthur of Mt. Pleasant and son, Thomas G. Kagle of Austin, TX.

Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Nuss in April 2003.

Steinbauer, LaVinna "Vinnie"
September 18, 1908 - December 18, 2003

LaVinna “ Vinnie” Steinbauer, age 95, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, December 18, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Vinnie will be held on Monday, December 22, at 10 a.m. from the First Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Ivan Odor and Mr. Mark Christian will officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friend on Sunday, December 21, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Monday, December 22, from 9 a.m. until time of service at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Vinnie was born September 18, 1908, in Muskegon County, Michigan, the daughter of John P. Royston and Alma (Disbrow) Royston. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and Central Michigan University. She married Arthur E. Steinbauer December 31, 1940, in Mt. Pleasant. She was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Business and Professional Women's Club in which she held several offices as well as Woman of the Year in 1976 and in 1987, a member of the Federation of Women's Club, Christian Women's Club, Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxillary, and a member of the First Church of Christ. She was well known in the area, having owned and operated a tax accounting service for many years.

Vinnie is survived by her daughter, Anna Kathryn Ureel of Detroit, her grandchildren, Paula (Grady Lee) McKinney of Oklahoma City, OK, Amy Ureel of Detroit, Sandra (John) Peterson of Homan, WI; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, John P. (Arlene) Royston and sister Katherine Nielson, of Lakeview, Michigan.

Vinnie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; grandson, Michael Ureel; brothers Roscoe, Claude, and Harlan; and sisters Clara and Marianne.

Hanson, Irene Rose
April 12, 1916 - December 11, 2003

Irene Rose Hanson, 87, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2003, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Contributions may be made to Irene Hanson Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Irene was born on April 12, 1916 in Michigan to Allen and Ethel Hanson. She has been a resident of Michigan all of her life, having lived in Coldwater, Coleman, Lapeer, Traverse City and Mt. Pleasant prior to moving to Midland. Irene enjoyed the Simplest of pleasures in life, including singing, traveling and being surrounded by those who treated her with respect and dignity.

Surviving her is her Guardian, Lynette M. Bailey of Mt. Pleasant; her support staff Beth Murray, Marlene Buzzell, Gloria Shaffer, Sherry Butler, Marti Davidson and special friends, Theresa Davidson, Peggy Baker, Paul Baker and their daughter, Megan Baker and Robert (Ben) Guffy, all of Midland.

Rarick, Robert Westover
June 16, 1928 - December 9, 2003

Robert Westover Rarick, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died peacefully in the home he shared with Martha Rarick his wife of 42 years, on Tuesday December 9, 2003.

Memorial Services for Robert will be held on Saturday, December 13th, from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant at 11 a.m. The Rev. Patricia Green and The Rev. Nancy Casey-Fulton and Masonic Wabon Lodge #305 will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13th, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hospice of Central Michigan, Community Cancer Services, or to the Donor's charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Robert was born June 16, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of Joseph S. and Frances (Westover) Rarick. Robert married Martha Pool on December 9, 1961, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He graduated from Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio. He then attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Robert was a master craftsman enjoying working in his workshop creating Intarsia pictures and building furniture. The evidence of his skill is in numerous pieces at St. John’s Episcopal Church. He delighted in creating wooden toys and puzzles for Christmas charities. He will be remembered for his humor and being known as Uncle Bob to many in the community. Robert was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Mid-Michigan Woodcrafters Club, Wabon Lodge #305, Heart of Michigan Clown Alley and Mt. Pleasant O.E.S. #55.

Robert is survived by his wife, Martha Rarick of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Joan (Richard) Mann of Sun City Center, FL; two nieces, Debby L. Mann of Valrico, FL and Julie (Eddy) Watkins of Brandon, FL.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

Gorton, Gail Elizabeth
July 11, 1956 - December 8, 2003

Gail Elizabeth Gorton, age 47, of Mt. Pleasant passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 8, at the Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. Dr. Stephen Shugert will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gail E. Gorton Women in Sports Endowment.
Envelopes will be available at the Clark Funeral Chapel and the Church.

Gail Elizabeth Gorton was born July 11, 1956 in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the daughter of Stanley Kouris and F. Elizabeth (Winter) Kouris. She graduated from North Farmington High School in 1974. She went on to College at Central Michigan University where she received her B.S. degree in 1978. On December 22, 1978, she married Peter B. Gorton at the Martha Mary Chapel in Greenfield Village. Gail worked as an educator since 1992 for the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools, teaching 3rd and 4th grades. She taught at Pullen, Vowles, Kinney and Ganiard Elementary Schools. Gail was very active in many different areas of the Isabella County Community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also taught Sunday School. She was an avid bird watcher with the Chippewa Valley Audubon Club, District Coordinator for the Mt. Pleasant Environmental Curriculum, board member of the Mt. Pleasant Sports Boosters, served as an advisor to the Mt. Pleasant Soccer Club, a member of the Michigan Education Assoc. (M.E.A.) She supported multi-age curriculum in education. She was active with Women’s Aid Service. Gail volunteered her time for the development of natural areas.

Gail is survived by her husband of 25 years, Peter B. Gorton of Mt. Pleasant, their 2 daughters Grace Elizabeth and Claire Winter ,Gorton both at home; parents, Stanley and F. Elizabeth Kouris of Bradenton, Florida; brother, Stan P. (Mindy) Kouris of Brighton, Michigan; nephews, Christopher Winter and twin brother Ty Remmington Kouris of Mt. Pleasant.

Cook, Orves Richard
August 2, 1910 - December 7, 2003

Orves Richard Cook, 93, of Weidman, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2003.

Funeral Services for Orves will be held on Wednesday, December 10th, from the Zion Lutheran Church on Coldwater Road at 11 a.m. Pastor David Mielke will officiate with interment to take place in the Broomfield Twp. cemetery, Isabella Co.

The family will receive friend on Tuesday, December 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, and on Wednesday, December 10, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Commission of Aging or to Zion Lutheran Church on Coldwater Road. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Orves was born August 2, 1910 in Weidman, the son of Herman Cook and Theda (Smith) Cook. Orves married Gilda Mae Bergquist on August 2, 1934 in Weidman, Michigan. Mr. Cook worked in the oilfields as a supervisor. He worked for Union Rotary and Associated Drillers, he retired in 1963. Orves also owned his own dairy farm and did crop farming.
Orves was a charter member of the Weidman Lions Club, and was also a member of the Coldwater Road Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing and loved having fun with his grandchildren.

Orves is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gilda Cook of Weidman; his children, Jack E. (Soneia Lee) Cook of Weidman and Darla Mae (Warren T.) Lear of Hampton, Minnesota, daughter-in-law Marion Cook of Weidman, 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, his brother, Herman (Margaret) Cook Jr. of Lansing, Michigan, sisters, Lacretia Klumpp of Winn, and Alice Fox of Lansing.

Orves was preceded in death by his son, Richard Lee Cook on Nov. 13, 1995, sisters, Gleverda Krueger, Aliance Cook, and Lylah Mead, Brother, Theodore Cook.

Edgar, Jeanette
February 12, 1920 - December 4, 2003

Jeanette Edgar, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2003, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Cremation has taken place. Private services were held at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Jeanette was born February 12, 1920, in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of John and Marie (Stacy) Griffin. She married Armand L. Edgar on April 21, 1949, in Detroit. Jeanette was a housewife. She enjoyed flower gardening and working crossword puzzles.

Jeanette is survived by her sons Michael (Karen) Edgar of Lansing and Patrick Edgar of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Stacy Edgar of Lansing and Timothy Edgar of Austin, TX; great-grandchild Darius Lee Cunningham III of Lansing; and sister Joyce (George) McClain of Mt. Pleasant.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband on October 11, 2002, infant daughter Grace Edgar, and brother James Griffin.

Owens, Phillip Ryan
March 15, 1989 - November 20, 2003

Phillip Ryan Owens, age 14, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at his home.

Funeral Services for Phillip will be held on Sunday, November 23rd at 3 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Ronald Vredeveld will officiate. Cremation will follow service. Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Sunday, November 23rd from 1-3 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mental Health – Respite Care. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Phillip is survived by his parents, Joseph and Rhonda Owens of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Joseph (Vanessa) Owens of Bay City, Chad Owens of Harrison, Craig (Andrea) Owens of Blanchard, Justin Owens, Christopher Owens; sister, Nichol Owens and Matt and Allye, all of Mt. Pleasant.

Phillip was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Owen.
