September 16, 1908 - November 11, 2003

Mary Lee Cornell, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Tendercare-Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Mary will be held on Friday, November 7, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Crandall of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Friday, November 7, from 12 noon until service time. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Mary may consider Hospice of Central Michigan or the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Mary was born September 16, 1908, in Crofton, KY, the daughter of Samuel and Lou (Foster) Smith. She married Raymond J. Cornell on February 17, 1928, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Mary resided in Mt. Pleasant since 1941. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and loved her church. She will be missed by all.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Betty Spiris of Mt. Pleasant, Elaine (Bill) Martin of Lake Isabella, and Sharlene (Richard) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, 9 grandchildren, Jon Michael (Kathy) Spiris, Cathy (Alex) Imlay, Steven (Kim) Spiris, Peter Spiris, David (Lori) Smalley, Scott Smalley, Robert (Tami) Smalley, Steven Smalley, Kevin (Kristie) Wilson, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Tucker, Odis Russell
December 15, 1914 - November 10, 2003

Odis Russell Tucker, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Odis will be held on Thursday, November 13, at 10 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, 114 S. Bradley Street, Mt. Pleasant. Interment will follow in the Silver Lake cemetery in Wolverine, Michigan. Visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 12, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Odis was born December 15, 1914, in Arbuckle Creek, WV, the son of George and Minnie (Wittington) Tucker. He married Grace Craig on June 19, 1937, who preceded him in death. He then married Etta (Shade) Snow on June 9, 1972, in Pontiac, MI. Odis worked for Cheboygan County in truck maintenance until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing and hunting which was the love of his life.

Odis is survived by his wife, Etta Tucker of Mt. Pleasant; his children Bonnie (Dale) Coulter of Hadley, Jack (Nancy) Tucker of Minocqua, WI, Cary Tucker of Royal Oak, and stepsons Robert (Cathy) Snow of Waterford and Bill (Janet) Snow of West Branch; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother Elbert Tucker of Buffalo, WV, and sister Oma Davis of Davisburg.

Odis was preceded in death by his son Jerry Tucker, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Morey, Martie Lee
July 28, 1963 - November 9, 2003

Martie Lee Morey, 40, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Hunan House, 2157 S. Mission Street, Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, November 12, from 7-9 p.m.

Martie is survived by his mother Trudy (George) Sanderson, brother Frank (Billie) Fedewa, children Jessica Lynn and Tori; his family at Hunan House as well as many friends in the Clare/Mt. Pleasant area.

Martie was preceded in death by his father Kurt Hilyard and grandparents Helen and Les Adams and his Uncle Bill Adams.

Klomparens, John
July 5, 1939 - November 8, 2003

John Klomparens, age 64, of Canadian Lakes passed away on November 8, 2003 at his home.

John was born July 5, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henrietta Boomsma and Jacob Klomparens, and his Uncle Tom and Aunt Jennie Smit.

He is survived by his wife Deloris Gomez of Canadian Lakes. He is also survived by his former wife, Margaret Trombley and by their sons Thomas Klomparens of Mattawan, MI, Robert Klomparens and daughter-in-law Linda Klomparens, both of Galesburg, MI, and by his 6 grandchildren, Jake, Eric, and Kara of Mattawan, MI, and Zachary, Casandra and Kylie of Galesburg, MI.

John was a master electrician and a member of IBEW Local 131. He worked in electrical construction at every level of responsibility, including apprentice, journeyman, foreman, estimator, project manager, manager, and company owner.

John served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Portage, MI.

John was appreciated by many for his unique sense of humour. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, and long drives exploring the countryside. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Funeral Services for John will be held on Tuesday, November 11, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, 114 S. Bradley Street, Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor Arlan Estes officiating. Interment will follow at the Decker cemetery. Visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 10, from 6-9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Frick, Otto Oliver
October 28, 1921 - November 7, 2003

Otto Oliver Frick was born October 28, 1921, in Isabella County to August and Hedwig (Ruess) Frick, originally from Switzerland. He has lived in Mt. Pleasant, Rosebush, and Littlefield Lake. Otto started hauling milk in cans for his father in 1936 while still in the eighth grade. Otto sometimes took grocery lists from the farmers with the milk in the morning, returning the goods with the cans later that day. The Frick operation expanded and at one time they owned seven trucks, five of them hauling to Borden’s. Otto officially took over the milk hauling business in 1945. He was the first in Isabella County to use covered insulated truck bodies (1948). He hauled in to Borden’s plants in West Branch, Perrinton, Bad Axe, Ovid, or Cedar Springs, and to McFarland and Lakeside Dairy. He sold his milk route to Morval LaLone in 1968. After 32 years in the milk hauling business, Otto began another career as a builder and dealer for Pageant Homes (pre-cut homes from the Holt area). He lived at Littlefield Lake and using that as his home base, put up over 250 homes, garages, and additions from 1969 to 1983.

He married Anna Marie Vogel on April 29, 1947, in Beal City, MI.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; their children Kathleen (Keith) Hagen of Alma, Susan (Glynn “Russ”) Russell of Evart, Christina Frick of Mt. Pleasant, and John (Sheri) Frick of Evart; grandson, Dale Wayne Thatcher, Jr. of Tennessee; and by extended family of Kim and Darrell Greening and daughters, Jessica and Brook of Alma; Terri and Andy Fritz of Evart; Lisa Queen and boys, Matthew, Raymond and Austin of Hersey; and Ricky and Heather Oda and Darcy Daggy of Evart. Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters: Gene (Marlene) Frick of Monroe; Carl (Ruth) Frick of Mt. Pleasant; Frank (Lou) Frick of Mt. Pleasant, Rose Marie (Richard) Wilson of Alpena; and Clara Frick of Lake, MI and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, August and Hedwig Frick, and his older brother and wife, August and Norma Frick.

Funeral services for Otto will be Tuesday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Fr. Robert Byrne of Sacred Heart Church officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10, from 3-5 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Isabella County Commission on Aging or to Hospice of Central Michigan, Inc.

(Baker) Van Horn, Jane Roberta
February 3, 1922 - June 1, 2004

Jane Roberta (Baker) Van Horn, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, died at Tendercare, Clare on Tuesday, June 1, 2004. She had been a resident there since September of 2003.

She was born on Fifth Street in Clare, the daughter of Charles Wilson Baker and Elizabeth Webster (Perison) Baker. Charles was a blacksmith both in Clare and Mt. Pleasant. Jane lived in Mt. Pleasant for 81 years and was a graduate for Mt. Pleasant High School. She was a custodian at Central Michigan University for 27 years and was a volunteer for 19 years at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Academy. She married Forrest L. Van Horn on June 18, 1943. He was a groundskeeper at Central Michigan University for over 20 years.

She is survived by a daughter, April (Rodger) Hicks of Clare; two sisters, Shirley L. Baker of Mt. Pleasant and Mary Kay Axsom of Tempe, Arizona; six grandchildren, David (Deanna) Hicks, Michael L. Hicks and Terry L. Hicks, all of Clare; Traci (Chad) Florian of Shepherd and Stephani Van Horn of Mt. Pleasant and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and one son, Charles W. Van Horn in 2001; two sisters, Ell Mae Bugbee and Dorothy Jean Baker and by one brother, Robert Baker.

Funeral services will be held at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ervin Harden. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 10 until the time of service at the funeral chapel.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Academy. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Bleise, Bobbie Jo
May 7, 1981 - May 28, 2004

Bobbie Jo Bleise, 23, of Weidman passed away on Friday, May 28, 2004 due to an automobile accident.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Clark Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-9 on Monday, May 31, 2004 at the Clark Funeral Chapel.

Bobbie Jo was born on May 7, 1981 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Brian Ptak of Lake Station and Janet Bleise of Weidman. Bobbie Jo was a 2001 Mount Pleasant High School Graduate. She was employed by Blodgett Oil, where she was a cook at the A&W restaurant in Weidman.
Bobbie Jo loved drawing, writing poetry, being with her friends, and being around children.

Bobbie Jo is survived by both parents; Brian Ptak and Janet Bleise, Grandparents; Joe and Carol Bleise, brothers; Joey Schafer of Weidman, Brain Ptak Jr. of Detroit, and Chris Ptak of Detroit. Sisters; Kathryn Bleise of Weidman and Heather Ptak of Lake Station.

Kler, Mildred Sarah
July 8, 1919 - May 28, 2004

Mildred Sarah Kler, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 28, 2004 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at 12:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gordon Rydman officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 2, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to Central Michigan Baptist Church Mission Fund. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Mildred was born on July 8, 1919 in Highland Park, New Jersey, the daughter of Melvin and Mary Glendora (Tompkins) Gordon. She graduated from high school and married Rudolph Kler in Vineland, New Jersey. Mildred ran a foster care from her home for over 40 years. She attended Central Michigan Baptist Church.

Mildred is survived by her son, Rudolph (Barbara) Kler of Weidman; grandchildren, Rudolph R. (Kimberly) Kler of Silverdale, WA and Michael J. (Marie) Kler of Battle Creek; grandchildren, George Kler and Stephanie Kler of Silverdale, WA and Jonathon, Joshua & Zachary Kler of Battle Creek.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph; parents; brother, Melford Gordon; sister, Orena Lewis and brother, William Gordon.

Allan, Nancy Friend
September 26, 1925 - May 27, 2004

Nancy Friend Allan died unexpectedly on May 27, 2004, at her winter residence in Tyler, Texas. Nancy was born on September 26, 1925, in West Virginia, to parents Floyd E. and Lura Friend. Upon completing high school early, she attended Marshall College for one year. Orphaned at age eighteen, her resilient and self-reliant nature led her to take a job with the federal government in Washington D.C. There she met and married Willard “Bill” Allan, a member of the O.S.S., on July 29, 1945.

Following the end of WWII, Bill attended Harvard University. After graduation, he was commissioned in the Foreign Service. Nancy accompanied Bill in his numerous posts around the word, including Bulgaria, Greece, and Germany. As the spouse of a diplomat, she fulfilled a vital role, coordinating various social and political functions, while being a dedicated wife and mother. After leaving the Foreign Service, the Allans continued working overseas, with postings in Saudia Arabia and Iran.

Upon returning to the United States, Nancy and Bill lived in various locations before settling in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, two decades ago. Following Bill’s death in August of 2000, Nancy devoted herself to her beautiful yard, dear friends and family, and Susie, her feline companion.

Nancy was an avid gardener and lifelong tennis player, as well as a member of the Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, and doing crossword puzzles, but saved her greatest affection for Golden Retrievers and cats. She remained active and independent until her death. She will be missed by her two sons, Leigh (Kathy) Allan of Dayton, Ohio, and Christian (Melanie) Allan of Mt. Pleasant, and her grandchildren, Geof, Leslie, Kristen, and Will, as well as many close friends, in Texas and Michigan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5th, 1 PM at Clark Funeral Chapel with visitation starting at noon.

Fletcher Sr., Wilbur Wesley
July 22, 1918 - May 27, 2004

Wilbur W. Fletcher Sr., 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Saginaw Veterans Administration Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gordon Rydman officiating. Interment will follow in the Surrey Twp. cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 30, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, May 31, 2004 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saginaw Veterans Administration Hospital. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Wilbur was born on July 22, 1918 in Kalkaska, MI, the son of William Wesley and Selma Josephine (Anderson) Fletcher. He served for the United States Army from April 1, 1941 until August 3, 1945 where he received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 2 bronze stars and 6 overseas service bars. Wilbur married Elmira Ann Kadwell on October 5, 1946 in Pontiac, MI. He owned a city service station for 20 years before working for L.P. Gas at Shear Hardware in Farwell.

Wilbur is survived by his wife Elmira of Mt. Pleasant; children, Wilbur W. (Connie) Fletcher Jr. of Farwell, Gary Lynn (Ann) Fletcher of Zeeland and Debra Ann (Brian) Haremski of Midland; Ten grandchildren and Five great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret E. (Chet) Vanamburg of Kalkaska, P. Leona Fletcher of Florida and Bernice (Bob) Perkins of Florida and sister-in-law, Dorothy Fletcher of Pontiac.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his son, Wesley James Fletcher and brother, Everet D. Fletcher on June 5, 2001.

Lea, Geneva Frances
February 4, 1923 - May 26, 2004

Geneva Frances Lea, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 in Sebring, FL.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at 2:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gene Haymaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 1, from 6 - 8:30 p.m. at the chapel.

Geneva was born on February 4, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Rua and Gusta (Mumy) Baker. She married Charles A. Lea and resided in Mt. Pleasant. She worked at Dowell until she became a homemaker and mother. Geneva was very active in the community doing many volunteer activities. She was involved with the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, an Election Chairperson for the City of Mt. Pleasant and served for 25 years with Christian Women’s Club in many capacities. Church was very important to her. Geneva attended the First Baptist Church and directed Junior Choir, played the piano and organ and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Above all Geneva loved spending time with her family. She loved life and the Lord.

Geneva is survived by her loving husband, Charles A. Lea of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Karen Jean (Richard) Matheny of West Boomfield, MI; son, David Charles (Cinthia) Lea of Yuma, AZ; and 4 grandchildren, Alana Matheny of West Bloomfield, MI, Jonathan, Rosana and Nicholas Lea all of Yuma, AZ.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, Rua and Gusta Baker and a brother, Delos Baker.

Lucas, Gladys Iona
May 19, 1914 - May 25, 2004

Gladys Iona Lucas, 90, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry I. Nordheim officiating. Interment will follow in Kelly cemetery, Midland County. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 27, 2004 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Cancer Services or Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Gladys was born on May 19, 1914 in Isabella County, the daughter of Veda and Stella (Houtz) Holliday. She married Dick Arthur Sawade on July 5, 1933 in Isabella County. He preceded her in death in 1947. Gladys was a drapery maker for Smith – Bridgeman. She was also employed by Ferro Manufacturing and was a waitress at Alswades in Mt. Pleasant. Gladys enjoyed making aphgans.

Gladys is survived by her children, Earl (Violet) Sawade of Mt. Pleasant and Wanda Bunker of Weidman; Twelve grandchildren; Nineteen great-grandchildren; Six Great-Great grandchildren and sisters, Murley Shattuck of Mt. Pleasant and Eva Edwards of Flint, MI.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; daughter, Esther Lowery in 1989; son, Waldo “Benny” Sawade in 1999; son-in-law, Larry Bunker in 1998; sister, Mildred Chalmers and brother, Chester Holliday.
