January 3, 1911 - October 18, 2004

Lloyd “Buck” J. Atkins, 93, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, October 18, 2004, at the Tendercare Nursing Home.

Memorial services for Lloyd will be Friday, October 22, at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Boley officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, from 11 a.m. until time of service at funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Atkins Family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Lloyd was born on January 3, 1911, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the son of Charles Samuel and Dolla Belle (Carlie) Atkins. He married Ida Frances Loveall in 1933 in Manford, OK. Lloyd was employed by Pure/Union Oil Company. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.

Lloyd is survived by his children, Gary K.(Diane) Atkins, C. Dean (Kathy) Atkins and Linda L. (John) Hunter; Grandchildren, David (Carmella) Atkins, Annette (Dennis) Wajda, Krista (James) Voss, Greg Atkins, Aaron Hunter (special friend, Sue) and Jerry Hunter (special friend, Stacy); Great-Grandchildren, Randall, Paige, Samantha, Hayden, Carson, Nicholas Alexander and Joseph Anthony; brother-in-law, Albert (Grace) Loveall; sister, Nora Bullington of Chico, CA and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Frances Atkins; brothers, Doyle, Jim, Otto, Bill and Roy Atkins.

Teeter, Homer Ray
July 14, 1934 - October 17, 2004

Homer Ray Teeter, 70, of Mt. Pleasant went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Homer will be Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Duane Koontz of the Church of Daniels Band officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 from 4-9 p.m. and on Thursday, October 21, 2004 from 10 until the time of service at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to R.T.S. Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome or the Donors Choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Homer was born on July 14, 1934, in Isabella County, the son of George and Edna (Jones) Teeter. He married Gilda Woolworth on June 20, 1970 in Howard City. Homer worked as a custodian for Chippewa Hills Public Schools for 21 years before retiring in 1995. He was an active member of the Church of Daniels Bands. He enjoyed fishing, sports, auctions and visiting with people, especially family and friends.

Homer is survived by his wife, Gilda of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Angela and Brenda Teeter both of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Herman (Wilma) Teeter of Crystal and Harold (Marge) Teeter of Byron Center, MI; sister, Helen (Earl) Place of Barryton; sister-in-law, Ruth Teeter of Clare and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Jeffrey, Elton Lewis
October 12, 1942 - October 14, 2004

Elton Lewis Jeffrey, age 62, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on October 14, 2004, at his home in Fulton, Missouri.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Coomer United Methodist Church with Bill Foldesi offiating.

Elton was born on October 12, 1942, to Ernest and Florence (Maxon) Jeffrey.

Elton is survived by his mother, Florence Jeffrey of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Columbus Jeffrey and friend Jarred Nicholson, Joseph Jeffrey, Sarah Jeffrey, Terry (Tammy) Snyder, all of Fulton, Missouri, and Jessie Shaw of Cheboygan; stephchildren, Janet Ketler, Randy Joseph Martinez of Mt. Pleasant, and Tammy (Bob Craven) Martinez of Winn; brothers, Victor (Judy) Jeffrey of Weidman, Kenneth (Cheryl) Jeffrey of Shepherd; sisters, Mary Craven of Winn, Ruby Jennings (Clyde Miles) and Marjorie (Joseph) Hebert of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, Hazel Snapp of Clare; step-brother, Mark (Amy Gibson) Darnell of Rodney; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; one aunt, Ester Bardaville of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Jeffrey; stepfather, George Darnell; brothers, Columbus, Nelson and Leo Jeffrey; brother-in-law Howard Craven; stepson Scott Martinez; niece Debra Craven; and two nephews, Michael and Donald Jeffrey.

Roberts, Walter T.
September 10, 1928 - October 14, 2004

Walter T. Roberts left us to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at the age of 76.

Funeral services for Walter will be Monday, October 18, at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Ray Merritt and Mel Harrell officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 19, at 2 p.m. at Flint Memorial Park, Flint, Michigan. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 16, from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, October 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Walt was born September 10, 1928, in Clio, Michigan, son of Floyd & Clara Roberts. He was a hard worker, dedicated Christian and loved his family and friends. Walt valued watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, along with playing cards and bingo with friends and family.
He was an active member of Gilmore Church of Christ and previously Pine Run Church of Christ. Walt was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Hostess Cake after 42 years of service.

Walt leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Joan Roberts; daughter, Penny (Michael) Worth; son, Brent (Connie) Roberts; three grandchildren, Jenniferr (Harry) Brennan, Karrie (Kirk) Jones, and Preston Worth; five great-grandchildren, Caerra Brennan, Lee and Kurtis Dobbs, Tobie and Matthew Jones; 1 sister; 3 brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his daughter Jeanette and parents Floyd and Clara Roberts.

Prokopchuk, Wandalee
September 19, 1932 - October 12, 2004

Wandalee Prokopchuk, 72, of Rodney passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Wandalee will be Friday, October 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in the White Chapel cemetery in Troy. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 14, 2004 from 4-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Michigan Community Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Wandalee was born on September 19, 1932, in Carmel, Arkansas, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Austin) McDonough. She married Peter F. Prokopchuk on March 30, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. Wandalee was a member of the Eagles Club and PTA in Pontiac. She was also a Girl Scout leader.

Wandalee is survived by her husband, Peter of Rodney; children, Peter F.(Jena) Prokopchuk of Morgantown, WV, Paul Douglas Prokopchuk of Evart, Cynthia Edwards of Auburn Hills and Donald J. Prokopchuk of Evart; Five grandchildren; one brother, Harry (JoAnn) McDonaugh of North Branch and one sister, Barbara Benaway of Missouri.

Wandalee was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eugene and brother, Alton in 1946.

Haney, Leona M.
November 23, 1903 - October 12, 2004

Leona M. Haney, 100, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral services for Leona will be Thursday, October 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Phil Bacon and the Eastern Star Coe Chapter 98 officiating. Interment will follow in the Union cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Isabella Seniors, Order of Eastern Stars or Winn United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Leona was born on November 23, 1903, in Rolland Township, the daughter of Elmer K. and Emma R. (Smith) Pease. She married Alonzo “Loney” Haney on January 20, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death in 1992. Leona was employed by Lansing Laundry before working part-time for the Morning Sun. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars and Winn United Methodist Church.

Leona is survived by her children, Arlene (Richard) Scramlin of Mt. Pleasant and Donna (Jerry) Nelson of Dewitt; Eleven grandchildren; Fourteen Great-Grandchildren; Eight Great-Great Grandchildren and one sister, Eunice Lucas of Howell.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonzo; son, Richard Haney; daughter, Ruth Vanacker; eight brothers and one sister.

Walton, Robert E.
December 23, 1933 - March 9, 2005

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert E. Walton, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at his home with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Sacred Heart Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Friends may call Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 11, 2005 from 2-9 p.m.

Bob was born on December 23, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Glen and Violet (Wixson) Walton. He married Marilyn Hesson on October 19, 1957 at St. Philomene Church in Beal City. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Korean War Veteran. Bob retired from Schafer’s Bakery in 1985. Bob truly enjoyed sports. He played football and softball. In Paris, France 1953, his team was awarded Army Softball Champion against Germany. He continued playing softball after returning home. Bob loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and working with Marilyn in their flower gardens. His favorite past time was playing cards, especially with his two daughters. We have many wonderful memories but mostly we remember him as being a very hard working strong and determined man, even during his illness. He was very proud and protective of his family. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Cindy (Dutch) Oberloier and Susan Walton; three sons, Tim (Angie) Walton of Weidman, Steve (Susan) Walton of Clare and Mike (Jennifer) Walton of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Sarah, Josh, Laura, Kayla and Dillion Walton; brothers, Jack (Virginia) Walton of Mt. Pleasant and Jim Walton of Sanger, CA; sister, Sharla Peffer of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, June Schumacher of Beal City and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill and sisters, Rachel and Phyllis.

Stewart, William Ricker
June 23, 1923 - March 7, 2005

William Ricker Stewart, 81, of Weidman, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2005 after a long battle at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Funeral services for William will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Earl Koch officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m. and on Thursday, March 10, 2005 from 9 until time of service at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will available at the funeral chapel.

William was born on June 23, 1923 in Greenville, the son of Eugene and Margaret (Johnston) Stewart. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the VFW Post in Weidman, the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles club in Lake and the Weidman coffee Club. William was a man of many trades: farmer, bar owner, trucker and sawmill owner. He enjoyed working in the greenhouse, hunting, fishing, cooking, playing cards, time with his grandchildren and gossip over coffee. William was always quick with a story and brightened a room with his laughter and charming smile. All who had the honor of knowing him will be forever touched. Until we meet again, our father and very wonderful friend.

William is survived by his very special friend, Barb Brown; children, Diann Latham (Mark Hudak) of Lake, Patricia Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, Elaine Stiles of Weidman, Weldon Stewart of Lake, Betty (Todd) Lee of Texas, Margaret (Russell) Gross of Weidman, Rose Stewart of Weidman, Carl (Ann) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, Dave Stewart of Weidman and Lisa (Butch) Tower of Weidman; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Madeline Stevens of Mt. Pleasant and the mother of his children, Gertrude (Robert) Keusch of Weidman.

William was preceded in death by his father, Eugene and step-mother, Dorothy; Mother, Margaret and step-father, Clyde Johnston; sister, Mary Wendrow; 2 brother-in-laws, Barney Wendrow and Richard Stevens and 2 grandsons, Brent Olson and Brian Rau.

Miller, Velma L.
August 9, 1929 - March 3, 2005

Velma L. Miller, 75, of Lake Isabella, formally of Lansing, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Laurels Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant.

A Memorial service for Velma will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Boley officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Velma was born August 9, 1929, in Ness City, Kansas the daughter of Virgil and Almeda (Wallace) Whithorn. She married Jackie Miller, he preceded her in death. Velma retired from General Motors after 24 years of service. She enjoyed RVing and was a member of the Coachmans RV club in Lansing. Velma liked working cross word puzzles, crocheting and walking in nature.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Kitty (Philip) Scheuerman of Petersburg, MI, Janice (William) Balser of Lake Isabella, MI and Wynona (Robert) Barnes of Frederic, MI; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brothers, Warren, Lee Whithorn both of Hutchinson, KS and Howard Whithorn of Hoisington KS; sisters, Alice Lightner and Evelyn Hendershot of Hutchinson, KS.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie on September 29, 2001; her parents, sister, Dorothy Mackey and brother, Lewis Whithorn.

Neubecker, Robert Joseph
December 25, 1957 - February 26, 2005

Robert Neubecker, 47, loving husband, father, son, and brother passed away February 26, 2005, after a six-year battle with cancer.

A Funeral Mass for Robert will be on Wednesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Beal City with Fr. William Neubecker and Fr. John Cotter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1, from 3-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday, March 2, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Joseph the Worker Church. There will be a prayer service Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.at the funeral chapel. Memorial donations made be made to Community Cancer Services or St. Joseph the Worker Catholic School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Robert was born on December 25, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Joseph and Vera (Halfmann) Neubecker. He graduated from Beal City High School in 1976. Bob married Debra Rau on June 27, 1980, in Beal City. He was a lifetime area resident. Bob was employed as a custodian at CMU from 1987 to the present. He had previously worked as a farmer and as a custodian at Provincial House, St. Joseph the Worker School, and Mission Creek Schools. Bob loved to go bicycling, fishing, camping, and especially spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker.

Robert is survived by his wife Debra; sons Joseph Neubecker of Mt. Pleasant, Kevin Neubecker of Mt. Pleasant, Eric Neubecker and daughter Amie Neubecker, at home. He is also survived by his mother Vera (Halfmann) Neubecker of Weidman; mother-in-law and father-in-law Walter and Edna (Doll) Rau of Beal City; seven sisters Carol (Gary) Wernette of Weidman, Mary (Richard) Paisley of Gladwin, Rose (Earl) Schafer of Weidman, Jane (Brad) Walker of Mt. Pleasant, Margie (Dennie) Logan of Weidman, Kathy (Stan) Shaner of Weidman, and Julie (Terry) Hutchinson of Weidman; and two brothers, Fr. William Neubecker of Jundai, Brazil and Ray (Jolene) Neubecker of Aloha, Oregon; four sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ginny Rau, Delores (Fred) Gould, Larry (Sheila) Rau, all of Beal City, and Dale (Sherry) Rau of Grand Haven. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; grandfather Barney; and brother Steven.

DuHamel, Rose Marie (Bookey)
May 3, 1918 - February 26, 2005

Rose Marie (Bookey) DuHamel, age 86, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday evening, February 26, 2005. She was under the care of Central Michigan Community Hospital and Hospice of Central Michigan.

Rose was born May 3, 1918, in Pentwater, Michigan, to her parents Fred Crusen and Josephine Crusen. Rose is survived by her three children, Richard (Jane) Bookey of Rogersville, Missouri; twins Diane (Douglas) Sharrar of Shepherd and Daniel (Glenda) Bookey of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren and eight great-granchildren.

The family will hold a memorial service in early spring in Belding, according to her wishes. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Her first husband Richard Bookey, her second husband Joseph DuHamel, her parents Fred Crusen and Josephine Crusen, and her brother William Crusen preceded Rose in death.

Carr, James D.
March 2, 1938 - February 23, 2005

James D. Carr, 66, of Genessee passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Genesys Hospice Home in Goodrich, Michigan.

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dean Willard officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 26, 2005 from 11 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.

Jim was born on March 2, 1938 in Sherman Township, the son of Guy and Violet Marie (Chapman) Carr. He graduated from college with a Master’s Degree in teaching and social work. Jim was self-employed as a social worker. He previously worked for the State of Michigan, American Legion Children Home, Salvation Army Administration, St. Louis Baptist Children Home and Chaves County, New Mexico. Jim married Gloria Manning on July 10, 2004 in Genessee. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, hiking and camping.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gloria Manning; children, Roger (Kim) Carr of Fredericksburg, VA, Randy (Brenda) Carr of Beaverton and Renee (Brett) Firmingham of Lansing and one brother, Arwyn (Joan) Carr of Ann Arbor.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ileen Wolfgang and brother, Dennis Carr.

Johnson, Norman H.
December 13, 1921 - February 19, 2005

Norman Johnson, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 19, 2005, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services for Norman will be held on Monday, February 21, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian LaMew officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Garden cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20th from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, February 21st from 1 p.m. until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rosebush United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Norman was born December 13, 1921, in Rosebush, the son of Preston and Verna (Hislop) Johnson. He married Helen Windel on June 15, 1944 in Mt. Pleasant. Norman attended Rosebush United Methodist Church.

Next to his family, farming was the love of his life. Norman was a dairy farmer in Rosebush for over 60 years. He spent 19 years driving school bus for the Mt. Pleasant School system. He belonged to the Michigan Milk Producers Assoc., and the Isabella County Farm Bureau.

Norman enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage on Eight Point Lake, traveling and playing cards with his friends. Norman will always be remembered for his kindness, his great sense of humor and being a true gentleman.

Norman is survived by Helen his wife of sixty years; daughters, Connie (Bob) Heintz, Kay (Bill) Newberry both of Dewitt, Sally (Ed) Gall of Saline, Debbie (Tom) Pavlak of Dewitt, and Carole (Dick) Forton of Caledonia; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a sister, Geraldine (Ed) McConnohie of South Haven.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Virginia.
