September 16, 1932 - February 15, 2005

Joyce L. Sargent, 72, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at TenderCare Nursing Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 19, 2005 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, February 20, 2005 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan, the Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund or Central Michigan Community Hospital New Life – New Hope Campaign. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Joyce was born on September 16, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Lester and Marguerite (Stutting) Reed. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, class of 1950. Joyce married Lyle Sargent on September 23, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her is death on March 5, 2002. She was employed by Pleasant Answering Service from 1967-1969, Central Michigan Community Hospital from 1969-1983 and from 1985-1986 as a temp. and Mt. Pleasant Anesthesia Services/ Dr. Vincent Dube from 1986-1991 Joyce was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, fishing, reading and watching John Wayne and Mel Gibson movies.

Joyce is survived by her children Debra Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Deborah) Sargent of Calumet, MI, Michael (Vanessa) Sargent of Clare and Steven (Robin) Sargent of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Amanda Marshall of New York, Andrea Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, Anthony Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, Nate and Torrie Bott of Breckenridge, Mark Sargent of Saginaw, Denise Mathews of Bay City, Angela Sargent of Coleman, Holly Sargent of Mt. Pleasant, Sarah Sargent of Clare, Jeff Sandel and Stephanie VanZee of Alma, Allison Sargent of Mt. Pleasant and Christopher Sargent of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandchildren, Noah Mathews of Bay City, Jonathan and Eathan Sandel of Alma; sister, Ilene Swix of Holt and three sister-in-laws, Mary Reihl of Mt. Pleasant, Geraldine Sargent of Mt. Pleasant and Dode Sargent of California.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; sister, Phyllis; parents; In-laws, Densel, Verco, Paul, Vada and Eloise Sargent, Jean Halfmann, Jack Swix, and Richard Reihl and nephews, Donald and Joseph Sargent, Larry Althouse and niece, Sing Halfmann.

Duncan, Karen M.
August 30, 1956 - February 14, 2005

Karen Marie Duncan, 48, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday Feb. 14 at her residence.

Funeral services for Karen will be held on Thursday February 17th at 1 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel with Fr. Jeffrey Donner officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Chapel on Thursday Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. until time of service. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Karen was born on Aug. 30, 1956 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the daughter of Richard Pilon and Sally (Fuller) Pilon. Karen earned 2 Associate Degrees from MMCC and was presently employed at C.M.U. Karen loved music, reading crocheting and had a green thumb with plants.

Karen is survived by children, Amy Duncan of Detroit, Elizabeth Duncan of Mt. Pleasant and James Duncan of Detroit. Also surviving are her parents, Richard and Sally Pilon of Manton; 2 brothers, Keith Pilon of Garden City, Jeff Pilon of Cadillac, sisters, Kathy Pilon of Traverse City, Kimberly (Al) Reinink of Cadillac and a niece, Teresa of Farmington Hills, MI.

Karen was preceded in death by her grandparents and aunts Ruth and Betty.

DeVaney, Edith P.
December 25, 1911 - February 11, 2005

Edith P. DeVaney, 93, of Weidman, passed away on Friday February 11, 2005 as the result of an automobile accident.

A memorial service for Edith will be held on Saturday, February 19th at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel with Lorraine McGuinness officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 19th from 10 until time of service at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Isabella Seniors. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Edith was born on December 25, 1911, in Weidman, the daughter of Fred and Catherine (Endres) Smith. She worked for Broomfield Memorial Hospital and Ferro Manufacturing before retiring in 1974. Edith enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding the birds and loved her cats.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Michelle of Las Vegas; grandchildren, A.J. (Colleen) Yuncker of Traverse City, Heath Yuncker of Shepherd, Marie (Danny) Zent of North Webster, IN and Brandice (Russell) Runyon of Syracuse, IN; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Viola Wright of Lake.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Wickenheizer and Marie Shettler.

Drowley, William A.
November 25, 1936 - February 9, 2005

William A. Drowley, 68, of Wheeler, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

A memorial service for William will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Parkside Assembly of God in St. Louis with Pastor Richard McLane. Interment will follow in Ridgelawn cemetery in Breckenridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

William was born November 25, 1936, in Gratiot County, the son of R. V. and Leana (Vought) Drowley. He worked at Crippen Manufacturing for 24 years and retired from Ithaca Coating in 2000.

William is survived by his brother, Merlin Drowley of St. Louis; half sister, Bettey Wood of Elwell; long time girlfriend Linda Osborne of Breckenridge; stepson L. G. Osborne of Breckenridge and many nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Clark, Caroline B.
April 26, 1966 - February 8, 2005

Caroline “Carrie” B. Clark, 38, of Weidman passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at her home.

Funeral services for Carrie will be held on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Craig Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery in Weidman. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 10, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weidman United Methodist Church, Community Cancer Services or Central Michigan Community Hospital Home Health Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Carrie was born April 26, 1966, in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of Don and Jane (Dewitt) Shenk. She graduated from high school and received her associate degree. Carrie married Jeff Clark on June 17, 2000. She was employed by Isabella Bank and Trust Weidman Branch, as a loan officer since 1996.Carrie was a very active member of Weidman United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the VFW Ladies Auxillary, co-chair of the Sunday School Committee, Co-leader of Mountaineer 4-H and she served on Isabella County 4-H Counsel. She enjoyed crafts and gardening.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Jeff; children Nicole and Corey; beloved pet, Blackie; mother, Jane Shenk; siblings, Les (Kari) Shenk and their children, Hailey and Ben of San Diego, CA and Lee (Angie) Shenk and their son, Chris of Denver, Colorado; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Lois Clark of Mt. Pleasant; grandparents, Ida Rounds of Illinois and Agnes Nicholson of Mt. Pleasant; Brother and sister-in-laws, Greg “Archie” (Renee’) Clark of Weidman, Sandy (Roger) Price of Shepherd, Debbie (Tom) Schepperly of Traverse City and Carrie (Dave) Smith of Mt. Pleasant and nieces and nephews, Amanda Clark, Ben Jones, T.J. and Joey Schepperly and Eddie and Nicki Smith.

Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Don Shenk and grandparents, Claude & Barbara Dewitt and Evard Rounds.

Solomon, Eddie Veneri
June 1, 1925 - February 4, 2005

Eddie V. Solomon, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

A memorial services for Eddie will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Somwick Senior Center.

Eddie was born June 1, 1925, in Delwin, MI. the son of William and Susie (Peters) Solomon. He was a farmer and a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

Eddie is survived by his son, Lester Solomon; grandchild, Martin (Sarah) Curry; great-grandchild, Gabriel Ivan Curry all of Mt. Pleasant.

Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean and a brother, Abraham Solomon.

Day, Shirley Ann
October 3, 1942 - February 1, 2005

In Loving Memory of Shirley A. Day (Sprague), age 62, of Rockford, MI, who was taken from her home in Rockford, MI, by her Guardian Angel on February 1, 2005. She was put in his loving arms where she now feels no pain and knows no suffering.

Funeral Services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with the Reverend Joe Sprague Sr. officiating. Friends may call at Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday February 4, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Shirley A. Day was born on October 3, 1942, to Philemon and Eleanor Sprague. She was preceded in death by her father Philemon Sprague, Sr., her son Robert Chamberlain, Jr., 1 grandson, her grandparents, a sister, brother, 5 nephews, and 1 great niece.

Shirley was a precious, loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt, and a wonderful friend to everyone.

Shirley A. Day leaves behind her loving friend and husband, Amos Day, Jr.; 4 beautiful daughters, Darlene Highley (Butch), Brenda Champlin (Rex) of Mt. Pleasant, Deb Marler (Tony) of Tennessee, Dianna Chamberlain of Baraga, MI; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by her loving, caring, and sweet mother, Eleanor Sprague of Mt. Pleasant. Shirley is survived by 6 brothers, Philemon Sprague, Jr. (Bean), Larry Sprague (Flossie), Wayne Sprague, Ken Sprague (Val), Gary Sprague (Lynnette Franco, and Bernie Sprague (Bonnie); 2 sisters, Barbara Sprague and Jo Kathy Bennett, all from Mt. Pleasant; her brother-in-law Cecil Day of Dayton, TN; and sisters-in-law Cheryl Williams and Paula Kieth of Battle Creek, MI. Shirley will be greatly missed by her Schnauzer, Kee-Wah-Zee.

The memories of this strong-spirited, kind and gentle woman will forever be in our hearts and we will hold onto them with love and respect.

Jackson, Clifford Floyd
March 10, 1919 - January 29, 2005

Clifford Floyd Jackson, age 85, of Harrison passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Tendercare Nursing Home in Clare, Michigan.

Funeral Services for Clifford will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Paulette Cheyne of the Winn United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at Clark Funeral Chapel on Monday, Jaunary 31, from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Clifford was born March 10, 1919, in Weidman, Michigan, the son of Alvin Jackson and Beatrice (Randall) Jackson. He married Emma Daily on March 6, 1937. Clifford served in the United States Air Force during WWII. He worked for the Dow Chemical Co. as a mechanic for 33 years, retiring in 1976. Clifford enjoyed all types of hunting, going mushrooming, woodworking, and basically enjoying life.

Clifford is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emma of Harrison; nephews, David (Sharon) Jackson and Edward (Deb) Jackson.

Clifford was preceded in death by both parents, 2 brothers, Randall and Vernon.

Davis, Marie J. (Armstead)
July 16, 1912 - January 28, 2005

Marie J. (Armstead) Davis, age 92, of Shepherd, Michigan passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2005, at her home in Shepherd.

Funeral Services for Marie will be held on Monday, January 31, at 1 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with Major Roger Saltee of the Salvation Army officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, January 30, from
2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Marie was born July 16, 1912, in Bad Axe, Michigan, the daughter of Peter Adam and Eleanor Jane (Edwards) Armstead. Marie married Norman Gilbert on June 2, 1935, in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death in 1963. Marie worked as a sales clerk in a grocery store and also had worked at Gover City for 18 years, retiring at age 63. She enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, and crocheting hook rugs.

Marie is survived by her children, Norma (Reynold) Mogg of Mt. Pleasant, Ray Davis of Mt. Pleasant, and Mary Davis of Shepherd; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 7
great-great-grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, 1 sister and 2 brothers.

Durfee, Elmer D.
August 27, 1919 - January 25, 2005

Elmer D. Durfee, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Elmer will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Arthur Fritz and Rev. Daniel Hellmann officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27th, 2005 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesleyan Holiness Church. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.

Elmer was born August 27, 1919 in Mt. Pleasant, the son on James and Myrtle (Landon) Durfee. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Elmer married Mildred Love on January 16, 1945. He was employed by Ferro Manufacturing for over 30 years and was self-employed as a farmer. Elmer was a member of the Wesleyan Holiness Church.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Mildred of Mt. Pleasant; children, Arlan Durfee and Marlene A. Hellmann both of Mt. Pleasant and three grandchildren, Timothy (Sarah) Hellmann of Jackson, MI., Sharon Hellmann of Marietta, GA., Daniel Hellmann of Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Fox, Marguerite L.
February 5, 1910 - January 23, 2005

Marguerite L. Fox, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2005, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

A Funeral Mass for Marguerite will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 27, 2005 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Marguerite was born on February 5, 1910 in Auburn, Michigan, the daughter of George E. and Margaret (Pashak) Forester. She graduated from Central Normal School as a teacher. Marguerite taught elementary education in Bay City. She married Stephen W. Fox on August 29, 1936 at St. Hugo of the Hills in Bloomfield, MI. Marguerite was a talented seamstress, faithful volunteer at the Thrift Shop and volunteered for Catholic Family Services for many years. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Ruth Ann (James) Walker of San Diego, CA, Jean E. (Don) Taylor of Lake Isabella, James S. (MaryLou) Fox of Mt. Pleasant, Susan E. (Michael) Voisin of Omaha, NE and Robert E. (Marilyn) Fox of Blanchard; Sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one sister, Georgena Forester of Bay City.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen on September 11, 2000 and sisters, Eleanor Adams, Ivaleen Spencer, Winifred Branigan and Gladys Melstrom.

Kreiner, Berry
April 22, 1958 - January 21, 2005

Berry Joseph Kreiner, 46, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Berry will be held on Monday, January 24, 2005 at 1 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Connie Bongard officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 24, 2005 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Berry was born on April 22, 1958, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Ronald D. and Phyllis J. (Smith) Kreiner. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1978. Berry married Lorrie Chivington on September 8, 1979. He was employed as delivery Warehouse supervisor for Sears. Berry was a member of the Leaton United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.

Berry is survived by his wife Lorrie; daughters, Danielle M. and Sarah L. Kreiner of Shepherd; parents, Ronald and Phyllis Kreiner of Mt. Pleasant; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Sandra Chivington of Mt. Pleasant and sisters, Cindy McBride of Tampa, FL, Rhonda Kreiner of Mt. Pleasant, Kathy (John) Andress of Lake Isabella and Susan Smith of Shepherd.
