Jacob Jay Totten, 27, of Rosebush passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services for Jacob will be held on Friday, September 23, 2005 at 1 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Greg Buchner officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2005 from 1-4 and
7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund, Community Cancer Services or Hospice of Mid Michigan. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Jacob was born on December 15, 1977 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Rodney and Lou Ann (Miller) Totten. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1996. Jacob worked at Soaring Eagle Casino, Sundberg Landscaping and most recently owned and operated Rosebush Country Market. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading and mechanical work.

Jacob is survived by his fiancee’, Jillian Prout and her extended family; parents, Rodney and Lou Ann Totten of Rosebush; grandparents, Albert C. Miller of Rosebush and Shirley E. Totten of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Johnna Totten of Mt. Pleasant; aunts and uncles, Richard (Penny) Totten of Escanaba, Rohnna (Steve) Bridget of Mt. Pleasant, Becky (Jim) Haught of Mt. Pleasant, Robin (Steve) Sargent of Mt. Pleasant, Rhea (Chuck) Lewis of Coleman, Gene (Linda) Miller of Charlotte, Donna (Kim) Cloud of Walhalla and Lola Miller of Clare; many cousins and his dog, Tim.

Jacob was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnie Totten of Mt. Pleasant and grandmother, Clarabel Miller of Rosebush.

Phillips, Sue M.
February 17, 1919 - September 15, 2005

Sue M. Phillips, 86, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2005 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.

A Memorial service for Sue will take place on Monday, September 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 a.m. till time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Community Hospital in Sue’s name. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Sue was born on February 17, 1919 in Harrisville, MI the daughter of John and Bertha (McCullough) Rodgers. She was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church and volunteered at Commission on Aging. Sue loved flowers and gardening.

Sue is survived by her son, James (Diane) Phillips of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Linda (Richard) Stoudt of St. Johns; daughter-in-law, Diane Phillips of Wasalla, Alaska; 8 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Phillips and son, Michael Phillips.

Ryan, LenoraAnn
February 4, 1966 - September 13, 2005

Dr. Lorrie Ryan always wanted to be a teacher – and that is what she did. Her desire was illustrated in her short but distinguished career with the Human Environmental Studies Department, as an Associate Professor at Central Michigan University.

Lorrie was a fantastic woman, bright, sharp and alert to the currents of our time and in the field of family science. She had a quality of concern for other people…. a touch of humanity and humility.

Dr. Ryan, 39 formerly from Sturgis Michigan was a family psychologist, lecturer and teacher. She died of cancer on Tuesday September 13, 2005 at her home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Her mother Dolores and her brother Dan were at her side.

She was elated to be hired by Central Michigan University…where she could do what she did best – Teach. In 2003 she was recognized with an outstanding teaching award from the University. While she was proud of this accomplishment, she was most proud of the success of her students. She has left a void in the hearts of all people who knew her.

Surviving family members include her husband, Dr. Terry Lerch, her mother Dolores Hochradel, her brothers Mike, Dan and Tim.

Visitation will be at the Clark Funeral Home from 7:00 to 900 p.m. Thursday, September 15 with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, September 16, a funeral mass will be celebrated at noon at St. Mary’s parish,
Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be available beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Foster, Jess L.
July 19, 1916 - September 13, 2005

Jess L. Foster, 89, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at Metron Nursing Home in Big Rapids.

Graveside services will be Friday, September 16, at 11 a.m. at Riverside cemetery with Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, 1609 Garden Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Jess was born on July 19, 1916, in Wynnewood, OK, the son of Jess and Elnora (McDaniel) Foster. He served in the United States Navy from 1934-1938. Jess married Earline Donaldson on November 29, 1946 in Ponca City, OK. He was employed by Universal Oil Products as chemical engineer from 1956-1982.

Jess is survived by his children, Carolyn Elmore of Plano, TX, Harold (Charlotte) Foster of Kerrville, TX, and Bonita (Keith) Jacque of Big Rapids, MI; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Jess was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Bywater, Garnet Genevieve
January 14, 1918 - September 9, 2005

Garnet Genevieve Bywater, 87, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, September 9, 2005 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral services for Garnet will be held on Monday, September 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Weidman Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Willard and Pastor Marvin Eldridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherman Township cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weidman Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Garnet was born on January 14, 1918 in Lake Ann, MI the daughter of Tracy and Neva (Beckwith) Gray. She married Howard Bywater in Lansing in 1944. She was a member of the Weidman Baptist Church. Garnet always was at the aid of anyone needing her help. She was a true servant of her Lord.

Garnet is survived by her children, Tracy (Nancy) Bywater of Mt. Pleasant, Bob (Ruth) Bywater of Richmond, KY and Larry (Eva) Parks of Higley, AZ; grandchildren, David (Deb) Bywater, Kevin (Rachel) Bywater both of Holland, Paul (Fawn) Panella of Millbrook, Virgil (Sarah) Squires of Urbana, OH and Paul (Mary) Pruitt of Hackensack, NY; Great-grandchildren, Kristen and Chelsie Kimball, Kyle, Brittany, Justinn and Jordann Panella & Austin, Erin, Kristine & Cailee Bywater; brothers, Dale and Rachel Gray of Florida, Gale and Doris Gray of Florida, Dwain and JoAnne Gray of Eaton Rapids and Glen and Betty Gray of Lansing; sister, Bonnie Mead of Springport and sister-in-law, Mary Gray.

Garnet was preceded in death by her husband, Howard in 1984; brothers, Tracy Gray Jr. and Ed Gray and sister, Geraldine Bowers.

Simonds, Freddie Susan
September 28, 2005 - September 7, 2005

Freddie Susan Simonds, 92, of Mt. Pleasant , Michigan passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at The Mt. Pleasant Community Church with Dr. Scott McKee and The Rev. Ralph Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery.Family members will receive visitors at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Mt. Pleasant Community Church, Hospice of Central Michigan, Freddie Link Simonds Scholarship at Central Michigan University or the Link Family cemetery Permanent Fund in Palestine, Texas. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.
Freddie was born on September 28, 1912 in Palestine, Texas to Andrew and Eugenia (Crocker) Link. She married Lloyd Simonds on December 24, 1942 in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death in 1967.
A graduate of Texas Woman’s University, Freddie taught home economics for several years in Clifton, Texas. During four summers while teaching there, she was enrolled at Colorado State University where she earned a Master of Science degree. Subsequently, during the Depression era, she directed a pilot project in home economics for the National Youth Administration.
Then she began her teaching career at Central Michigan University. She was professor in the School of Home Economics for 42 years. Academic awards she received were from Seventeen Magazine for outstanding achievement as an educator, from Home Economics Education of Michigan for leadership, and from Michigan Occupation Educators for significant contribution to vocational/technical education.
In addition to teaching , Freddie loved her home and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening. She had been active in her church for many years, teaching bible studies and helping with building plans. She was a volunteer at the Mt. Pleasant Thrift Shop.
She had a keen interest in world cultures and international relations. Especially after her retirement she traveled in many European countries, Malaysia and Japan.
Always keeping close ties with her Texas family, Freddie had planned many family reunions and made yearly visits to her relatives, often attending weddings and other family gatherings. The Link Family history, Reflections, which she authored, is treasured by the many nieces and nephews who survive her.

Wixson, Georgena Katherine
May 30, 1929 - September 6, 2005

Georgena Katherine Wixson, 76, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw.

Memorial services for Georgena will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Boley officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Georgena was born on May 30, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of John and Marie (Froggett) Keller. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. Georgena married Frank Wixson on October 14, 1950.

Georgena is survived by her sons, Doug and Mark Wixson; two grandchildren, Brandon and Zachery; her sister, Virginia Bowman of Lake City and many nieces and nephews.

Georgena was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on March 31, 1985 and son, Steve in 1981.

Croker, Troy J.
December 7, 1969 - November 28, 2005

Troy J. Croker, 35, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005 at his home.

Memorial Services for Troy will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 12 noon from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Boley officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.

Troy was born on December 7, 1969 in Detroit, the son of John and Judy (Huff) Croker. He served in the United States Navy for six years. Troy married Lona Hovey on August 31, 1996 in Beaverton. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, golfing and fixing cars.

Troy is survived by his wife, Lona; daughter, Alyssa May of Mt. Pleasant; father, John Crocker of Farmington; grandparents, Tom and Shirley Wallace of Diamondale and Nancy Hovey of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Clifford Croker of Farmington; brothers-in-law, Dana Mitchell of Lansing and Mark Smith of Sanford; sisters-in-law, Riki Mitchell of Newtronna Heights, PA and Heather Smith of Sterling Heights; father-in-law, Tim (Marsha) Hovey of Sanford and mother-in-law, Debi (Robert) Kleinsmith of Winter Garden, Florida.

Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Utterback, Mildred L.
May 8, 1920 - November 28, 2005

Mildred L. Utterback, 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005 at Isabella Medical Care Facility.

Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Eldred officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 from 4-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or the Humane Society. Mildred was born on May 8, 1920, the daughter of Derward Cecil and Lily Ora (Beard) Breedlove. She married Kenneth “Red” Utterback of September 30, 1940.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Red; children, Lynda (William) Prior of Grand Rapids and Brenda (Thomas) Goosman of Gaylord; grandchildren, Clyde (April) Sheets, Rebecca (Guy) Hursh, Randy (Theresa) Sheets, Christopher (Belinda) Goosman and Jamie (Lisa) Goosman; eleven great-grandchildren and brother, Randal W. Breedlove of Midland.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two grandchildren.

Sell, Justina "Tina" Marie
February 21, 1967 - November 27, 2005

Justina “Tina” Marie Sell, 38, of Clare went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at her home with her family by her side.

Funeral services for Tina will be held on Wednesday, November 30th at 1:00 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Mark Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29th from 2-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Mid Michigan. Tina was born on February 21, 1967, the daughter of Ronald and Mary Jane (Ingram) Mullet. She graduated from Shepherd High School, class of 1985. Tina married Kurt Sell on July 23, 2003 in Farwell. She worked as a slot attendant for Soaring Eagle Casino. Tina attended Great Lakes Bible College. She enjoyed golfing, college softball, bowling and singing.

Tina is survived by her husband, Kurt; step-children, Kelsie Sell of Holland and Alex Sell of Clare; step-father and mother, Ron and Mary Jane Mullet of Lake; father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Diane Sell of Rochester Hills and brothers, David (Shari) Cashen of Wyoming, Daniel (Regina) Cashen of Burns, Oregon, Douglas Cashen of Mt. Pleasant, Donald (Margaret) Cashen of Mt. Pleasant, Keith Cashen of Mt. Pleasant and Gordon (Anne) Cashen of Green Bay, WI.

Moore, Bobby Ray
November 16, 1925 - November 27, 2005

Bobby Ray Moore, 80, of Lakeland, FL passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2005 in Lakeland, FL.

Funeral Services for Bobby will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 10 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Fulkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. Bobby was born on November 16, 1925 in Miracle Run, West Virginia, the son of Madison and Goldie (Haught) Moore. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, class of 1943 and served in the United States Army during World War II. Bobby worked for Mich-Con before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge and enjoyed bowling, golf, auction sales, antiquing and flea markets.

Bobby is survived by his children, Robert (Marilyn) Moore of Mt. Pleasant and William R. (Lisa) Moore of Pontiac; three grandchildren, Sharon, Marc and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Alisha and Madison; brothers, Gary (Janice) Moore of Coldwater Lake and Eric (Connie) Moore of Mt. Pleasant and sisters, Belva York, Phyllis Breedlove, Shirley (Melvin) Foster and Jackie Cotter all of Mt. Pleasant and many nieces and nephews.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Madison and Goldie Moore; first wife, Marjorie Arnold Moore and second wife, Barb Long Moore.

Shepard, Robert D. "Bob"
January 12, 1929 - November 25, 2005

Robert D. Shepard, age 76, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2005, with his family by his side at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Byrne officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 30th, from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, December 1st, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial Donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or the American Lung Association.
