Our dear "Nanny" surrounded by her family went to be with the Lord March 11, 2005. Pauline Edna Zettel was born July 18, 1920 in Saginaw, Michigan Daughter of Chris and Meta (Blank) Zettel. She married Clinton Howell on May 16, 1942. They had a son, Ronald on April 17, 1946. She was predeceased by her father in 1943, mother in 1948, son in 1999, sister-in-law Betty Jean Muehlenbeck in 1998, and nephew Jim Smith in 2004. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1938.She was employed by the Schust Baking Company and G. A. Alderton Wholesale Grocery. She retired from the Saginaw Board of Education in 1984 after 30 years. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, ceramics, and travel in all 50 states. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Michigan Educational Retired School Personal, the former Saginaw Public School Association and the Retired Public School System.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories with two loving grandchildren, Brandon (Tanya) Howell of Freeland, and Shannon (Raye) Howell of Midland, three great-grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Howell, of Freeland,

Cooper James Howell, of Freeland, and Christian (Thomas) Cousar, of Midland also a great -grandson to be born in July. Brother and sister-in-law, Howard Zettel who was a God-send when Clint passed away and Doris Zettel who was more of a sister than sister-in-law An aunt Martha Blank, nieces, angels in disguise, Connie and Tom Domson, Kathy Guster, Janet and Michael Clayton all of Saginaw. Carol Lee Smith of Belding. A loving daughter-in-law Roxie Carter.Very special friends Kathy Mikolaizk and Betty Kitsch, plus many more friends, cousins and their loving children.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Blvd. Pastor Robert Eggers will officiate with burial in Holy Cross cemetery.

passed away Thursday afternoon March 24, 2005 at the Saginaw Geriatrics Home. Age 93 years. Louise Maul was born March 1, 1912 in Alswego, New York She was married to Russell Humpert on August 18, 1934. He predeceased her January 16, 1994. Surviving are two sons, Bob Humpert, Au Gres; and Ben Humpert, Saginaw. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Donald Humpert and one great-grandaughter, Alyssa Dewald.

Kessel, Dr. Joseph P.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on March 28, 2005 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence Center. Age 93 years. Joseph P. Kessel was born on July 19, 1911. He was married to Freda Weinberg on June 23, 1934. She predeceased him in 2001. Dr. Kessel was a dentist in Saginaw from 1934 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Saginaw Country Club since 1947, the Saginaw Club for many years, Temple B'nai Israel, the Michigan and American Dental Societies, also a member of the board of directors for the Saginaw Art Museum. Surviving are a daughter Suzi Kessel Gerber and her husband David of Newtown Square, PA, a son Larry Kessel and his wife Annette Pakula of New York, NY, a son-in-law, Barry Lhormer, Pittsburgh; five grandchildren Marc Lhormer and his wife Brenda, Jan Lhormer and her husband John Moore, Matthew Lhormer and his wife Dacia, Steven Gerber and his wife Sue Ellen and Molly Gerber and her husband Jason Silverman. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren Emily, Meghan, and Katie Gerber, Arlin Moore, Anderson Lhormer, and a Gerber-Silverman baby due in May. Dr. Kessel was preceded in death by his wife Freda; a daughter Arleen Lhormer, and a grandson Kenneth Gerber.

A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 30, 2005 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:45 p.m. until the time of the service. Leutritz, Helen J.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center Harrison, age 80 years. Helen J. Elliott was born on March 27, 1925 in Saginaw to the late Walter E. and Claire Elliott. She married Harold F. Leutritz on August 16, 1947 in Saginaw. He survives her. Helen was employed with Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Helen Jane was interested in various conservation clubs. Helen Jane loved all forms of music and played the piano. She was chairman of Saginaw High School Class of 1943 and was a member of the Antique Society. Surviving besides her husband, Harold are two daughters, Judy (Ron) Rousseau, Sanford, Mich.; Sue (Scott) Misenheimer, Farwell, Mich.; four grandchildren: Noel (Lillian) Rousseau, Grel (Amy) Rousseau, Sara Misenheimer, Rachel Misenheimer; four great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Trinity, Madison and Allison and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by one brother, Robert D. Elliott.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Rev. William Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew cemetery. Lichon, Deborah Kaye (Angst)
Saginaw Township, Michigan

passed away Thursday March 10, 2005 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 57 years old. Deborah K. Angst was born April 6, 1947 in Saginaw to the late Ervin and Yvonne (Nietling) Angst. Debbie graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in Chesaning in 1965.

Debbie went on to receive her LPN license in 1976 and then received her RN License in 1980. She was employed by Saginaw General Hospital now Covenant Health Care for over twenty-five years. During her employment she continued her education and received her CCRN Certification. Debbie was the sixth recipient of the Ms. Eleanor Howard Nursing Excellence Award (Nurse of the Year Award) for her outstanding commitment to nursing and for serving as a prominent role model as a Registered Nurse in the Coronary Care Unit.

She is lovingly remembered by one daughter, Amy (Scott) Sierocki, of Chicago and one son Paul (Kelly) Sierocki, of Los Angeles. She was a devoted grandmother to her dearly loved Grandchildren; Benjamin, Samuel, Katherine and Jessica who is expected in April. Her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, knew no bounds. She is survived and loved by her best friend, Terry Lawrence and her brothers, Jerrold Angst, Lawrence Angst, Jeffrey (Pam) Angst, David (Lisa) Angst and one sister, Bethany (Robert) Johnson. Debbie was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Angst. She will be greatly missed by many of her friends and family who loved her because of her compassion and selflessness.

According to Debbie's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles St. Fr. Emmet L. Marceau will officiate. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Manchester, Jody Ann (Finlan)
Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend left our world on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at St. Mary’s Medical Center after a short illness. Jody was born on July 1, 1959, to Mike and Karen Finlan. She married Elmer L. Manchester on March 16, 1985 in Saginaw. He survives her. Also surviving are her six children, Sunshine Steiner, Charles Steiner, Dana Marie Steiner, Loyad J. Manchester, Shannon M. Manchester, Heather Dawn Marie Manchester and one infant son, Josh who was waiting for mama in heaven. Jody Ann also had two brothers and one sister, Charles and Wendy Finlan, Danny and Cathy Finlan and Mrs. Ray (Mickie) Sochacki. Jody also leaves eight wonderful grandchildren whom she loved very much. She was also expecting two additions to the grandchild list this year. Jody had many wonderful friends, who were really an extended family at Walgreen’s drug store located on the corner of Genesee and Hess, where she was employed. Also special people to Jody are, Bob Crandall, Jim and Mary Crandall, Carol Wesolek, Sue Barnes, Debbie Stroble, Brent Harrington and Donna Fobear, whom she loved dearly.

Funeral service will take place at Noon on Monday, April 11, 2005 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Chaplain Carol Wesolek will officiate with interment to follow at Buena Vista Township cemetery. Markey, Muriel H.
Saginaw, Michigan

Widow of Dr. Francis L. Markey, passed away early Thursday morning, March 3, 2005 at St. Francis Home in Saginaw. Age 85 years. Muriel H. Fisk was born on August 31, 1919 in Saginaw and lived here her entire life. She was employed for Bell Telephone Co. and General Motors early in her life. She married Dr. Francis Markey in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1998. Muriel was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Surviving are her five children: Patricia Markey, Royal Oak; Paul Markey, Ann Hartmann and her husband Gary, Dennis Markey and Frances (Mony) Wolf, all of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Stefan Markey, Charleston, S.C.; Greg Hartmann, San Francisco, Calif.; Matt Hartmann, Saginaw and Michael and Henry Wolf, Saginaw. Muriel is also survived by her two sisters, Irene Fisk, Royal Oak; Rita McColgan, Saginaw; three brothers, Lester and William Fisk, Saginaw and Daniel Fisk, Midland.

All who knew Muriel understood her great enthusiasm for life, love of her family and friends, and most prominently, her tremendous sense of humor. Undaunted by several tragedies in life, she was perpetually optimistic. She had a very engaging personality and always greeted one with a smile. Muriel handled her long illness with grace, dignity and without complaint. She will be dearly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. James Gavit will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew cemetery. Maul, Esther R.

passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper. Esther Rowena Breautigan was born on August 28 in Reese, Michigan to the late Peter J. and Johanna (Reppuhn) Maul. She married Peter J. Maul on October 17, 1942 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1989. Esther was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving are one daughter, Kathy (Charles) Crawford, Saginaw; one granddaughter Kristena Crawford; three sisters and two brothers, Helen Crampton of Boise, Idaho; Elsie Wazny of Saginaw; Michael Breautigan of Hemlock; Arnold Breautigan of Oakley and Lydia Korycki of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Muniz, Ralph (Poppy)
Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Monday morning, March 7, 2005. Age 95 years. Ralph was born September 15, 1909 in El Paso, Texas to the late Jesus & Maria (Medina) Muniz. He was employed by Valley GMC as a mechanic, retiring in 1985. He served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the VFW Post #2622.
Surviving is one stepdaughter, Bernadine Gross of Saginaw; one brother, Albert Muniz of Detroit; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one special nephew, Alex and his faithful companion, Ookie. Mr. Muniz was preceded in death by two step-daughters, Rena Federico and Frances Mena and also by ten brothers and sisters. Ralph was also preceded in death in 1992 by his life-long partner of 73 years, Elizabeth Smith-Gross.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church 915 N. Sixth Street. Rev. Ramiro Trejo will officiate. A military service will follow at church under the auspices of VFW Post #1859. Private internment will take place in Calvary cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Rock, Frank A. Jr.

We walked hand in hand for 62 years now one of us walks alone. Frank passed away on Monday, April 4, 2005 at Saginaw Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Age 83 years. Frank A. Rock Jr. was born on April 9, 1921 in Saginaw to the late Frank and Mary (Williams) Rock. He married Margaret Estep on July 25, 1942 in Saginaw. She survives him. Frank was employed with US Graphite, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of service. He served in the US Army during WWII in the E.T.O. Surviving besides his wife Margaret are a daughter, Kathee Lincoln, Lajara, Col.; a son, Frank (Barbara) Rock III, Gaylord, Mich.; six grandchildren, Frank Rock IV, Caleb Rock, Joseph Rock, Benjamin Lincoln, Megan Lincoln, Lauren Bond; six great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Schroeder and many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by a brother John Rock and two sisters, Mary Simrau and Lucille Phelps.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Walter David will officiate. Ruble, Billy Joe

Our devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away on Wednesday evening, March 23, 2005 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence Center. Age 78 years.

Billy Joe Ruble was born on September 27, 1926 in Saginaw to the late Walter and Ruth (Holt) Ruble. He married Eileen Emery on November 29, 1947 in Saginaw. She predeceased him November 21, 2001. He retired from the City of Saginaw Water Treatment Plant. Bill was an avid golfer and member of the VFW Post #1566 and SEIU Union Local #466. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Kathleen and Daniel Menter of Saginaw, Richard and Kim Ruble of Canton, Michigan, and William and Cindy Ruble of Midland; four grandchildren, Kayla, Jamie and Sean Ruble and Ryan Kappler. Bill was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday March 28, 2005 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Walter David will officiate with military entombment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of VFW Post #1566. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and then again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Stoddart, Katherine H.
Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Sunday March 20, 2005 at Tendercare of Saginaw. Age 82 years. Katherine A. Hall was born October 2, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Gerald and Rhoda (McDowell) Hall. Katherine was married to Richard E. Stoddart on August 29, 1941 in Detroit. He predeceased her on April 4, 2002. Katherine was very proud of her Irish heritage and she was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Sally and Robert Carigan of Saginaw and Patricia and James Herrick of Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Also surviving is one grandson and his wife, Christopher and Anna Carigan of Saginaw. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Stoddart.

Honoring Katherine's wishes, cremation has taken place. No visitation or services are planned at this time. Katherine's family would like to express its thanks to Randy and the staff at Tendercare of Saginaw.

Weinert, Margaret E.
Greensboro, Ga.

Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan

passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the age of 86. The eldest daughter of the late Louis and Selma Baum Einfault, Margaret was born on September 26, 1918 in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1936 and was married to Harold Weinert of Saginaw in April of 1942. Margaret was employed with the Saginaw Public School System for 38 years, retiring in 1980. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from childhood until 1967 when she and her family became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. After moving to Greensboro, GA in 2001 to live with her son and daughter-in-law, she became a charter member of Lake Oconee Lutheran Church. While at Good Shepherd she was a member of the Bright Spots Bible Class and she was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. She is survived by a son, Robert and his wife Patricia Dennison Weinert, Greensboro,GA and a nephew, Timothy Thompson of Bentley, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Weinert in October of 1992 and a sister Ruth Thompson in 1988.

Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. John Rauh will officiate. Douglas, Geneva H.
Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006 at her home. Age 88 years. Geneva Helen Perry was born August 21, 1918 in Caseville, Michigan to the late Burton & Hilpa (Krause) Perry. She married Clyde Douglas on October 9, 1937. He predeceased her on November 5, 1973. Geneva worked until the age of 72 for numerous places, retiring as the Assistant Manager in the Bell Telephone Co. cafeteria. She was a member of St. Charles Seniors. Geneva enjoyed going to the casino knitting and doing extensive embroidery work.

Surviving are one son and three daughters and their spouses; Jack (Jeanette) Douglas, of Saginaw, Sandra (Clyde) Bell, of Saginaw, Pat Douglas, of Burt, Penny (Robert) Harris, of Brant; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great great grandchild; one sister Vivian (Joe) Trombley, Murphy, N.C. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Perry; one sister, Marge Grunow and one grandson, Joseph D. Carpenter. Following Geneva's wishes cremation has taken place, and private family services will be held. Topham, Hanford R. Jr. 'Bud'
Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006 at St. Mary's of Michigan. Age 85 years. Hanford R. Topham was born on June 10, 1921 in Saginaw to the late Hanford R. and Florence E. (Horzesky) Topham. He married Virginia M. 'Ginny' Culver on June 22, 1944 at St. Mary Cathedral in Saginaw. She predeceased him on January 8, 2006. Bud was a graduate from St. Mary High School, and was a Veteran of WWII. He owned and operated The Yellow Checker Cab Company of Saginaw. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and Germania Town and Country Club, as well as Knights of Columbus Council 4232. Bud was an avid golfer and enjoyed walking. Surviving are three daughters and a son; Penny (Randall) Butterfield, Sally Redmond, Mary (James) Fives, and Hanford 'Chip' (Thelma) Topham all of Saginaw; seven grandchildren; Amy (Remo) Nyffenegger of Switzerland, Monica Topham, Hanford 'H.R.' Topham IV, Shannan Butterfield, Randall 'R.J.' Butterfield, Jr., Alexander, and Virginia Fives all of Saginaw; three great-grandchildren; Remo Bryan, Emily, and Ryan Nyffenegger all of Switzerland; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL - Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1320 Mackinaw, Rev. James G. Heller will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Mausoleum.

VISITATION - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday, October 3, 2006, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mr. Topham will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Berry passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper. Age 74 years. He was born on November 29, 1931 in Grand Rapids to the late Gladys (Morningstar) and Niram Berry. Marv married Joan May Phillips. He then married Joan Marie (Fischer) Beutel on December 29, 1990 in Saginaw. He was extremely proud of their 15 years of marriage, and they enjoyed wintering in Panama City, Florida for the last 10 years. Marv was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School in 1950. He was a veteran and served with the US Army. Marv was employed with Shear Tool for 38 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting and Tiger Baseball. Marv was a former member of Second Presbyterian Church. Surviving besides his beloved wife, Joan are his children, Michelle (Brian) Hill, Carolyn (John) Butler, Stephen (Candy) Berry; step-children, Barbara Fritz, Beverly (Patrick) Kelley, Robert H. (Cheryl) Beutel; grandchildren, Katie and Christie Hill, Alise and Andrew Butler; eight step-grandchildren and many cousins. Marv was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Berry.

FUNERAL: Funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Pastor John Butler will officiate. Entombment will follow in Oakwood Mausoleum.

VISITATION: Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Hospital or the charity of your choice.

Burke, Richard H.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center- Cooper. Age 82 years. Richard was born on August 29, 1923 in Port Huron, to the late Louis and Marjorie (Fisher) Burke. He married Ruth E. Ludlum on September 7, 1967 in Saginaw. She survives him. Richard was a meat cutter for over 40 years, leaving the business in 1983. Richard then went to work for Brennan Real Estate for 13 years as a Facilitator Director. He was a member of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, bowling, gardening especially his flowers. Richard was also known for his ability to sing.

Surviving besides his wife Ruth are five daughters; Sandra (Charles) Reeder; Saginaw. Cheryl (Timothy) Geese; Saginaw, Dana (Michael) Flask. Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jodi (Vito) Gillette, Saginaw, Claudia (James) Williams, Owosso, also surviving are 11 grandchildren. 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren,, one brother, Gordon (Joyce) Burke, Louisiana.

FUNERAL - Memorial Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the Deisler Funeral Home 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Pastor Carol Wesolek will officiate and cremation has already taken place.

VISITATION - Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

MEMORIALS - Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.
