Levi, John A.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Monday, September 4, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper. Age 59 years. John A. Levi was born June 24, 1947 in Saginaw to Arthur and Frances (McGrath) Levi. He attended St. Stephen's Elementary School and graduated from Ss. Peter & Paul High School in 1965 before attending both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. There he obtained both his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree. During which time he studied in places such as England, Italy, France, West Germany and Greece; however, his travels continued during his life to many other places across the country and abroad. John was self-employed and was the President of The Levi Group, but his greatest passion was the time spent as a teacher in the Lansing and Saginaw Area Schools. John could often be found participating in many civic activities and organizations.

John is survived by his mother, Frances Levi of Saginaw; one brother, James Levi of St. Charles; one sister, Mary (Joel) Tessin of Freeland; one uncle, Virgil Levi of Saginaw; several cousins and many friends throughout the world. John's father preceded him in death.

FUNERAL - Funeral Services will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2006 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate. According to John's wishes, cremation will follow. Burial will take place at a later time in St. Andrew Catholic cemetery.

VISITATION - Friends may call at Deisler Funeral Home on Thursday, September 7, 2006 from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:30 until the time of service.

MEMORIALS - Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Stephen Catholic Church or Save Animals From Euthanasia (S.A.F.E.).

Lonsway, Lawrence D.

Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was 90 years old. Lawrence D. Lonsway was born July 7, 1916 in Carrollton, Mich. to the late John and Olive Cecilia (Wilson) Lonsway. He married Florence Irene Andrews on March 6, 1937. She survives him. They lived most of their working life in Freeland, Mich. He was a dairy farmer for 20 years and also worked at the Chevrolet Service Parts for over 37 years. In 1935 he started to work for General Motors, for 50 cents and hour, at the Grey Iron Foundry. A year later he moved to the Chevrolet Service Parts as a machine repairman. He was a member of St. John the Baptist in Carrolton and then St. Agnes Catholic Church, Freeland, and lastly at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Saginaw Twp. In the early 40 ‘s he worked to help establish the union in the General Motors plants. He was also on the board of directors of the Credit Union. He retired from the Chevrolet Service Parts in 1972. They sold the cows and the farm that same year so that they could travel. In the winter of 1973 they went on a caravan through Mexico. In 1978 they sold the farm and moved to a home in Lawndale Estates. They, Lawrence and Irene, traveled all over the United States and decided to winter in Texas and for the next 30 years they lived 6 months in Texas and 6 months in Michigan. He loved hunting and fishing with semi-annual trips to Lake Independence in Big Bay, Mich. They worked as catechism teachers at church and in the HOSTS program in Texas. His favorite hobbies were square dancing and reciting such poems as “The Village Blacksmith,” “Song of Hiawatha,” and the “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” Lawrence is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene Lonsway; his children, Lawrence H. (JoAnne) Lonsway of Freeland, Judi (Darrell) Mielke of Saginaw, and John A. (Judy) Lonsway of Flint; 13 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helena Alburg, Elizabeth Vollmer and Doris Tarras.

FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Fr. Loren M. Kalinowski will officiate with burial to follow in St. Andrew cemetery.

VISITATION: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State), from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006 and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Mallak, Donadee (Donna) L.

Saginaw Township, Michigan

passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 86 years. Donna Demsky was born on April 3, 1920 to the late Arthur and Clarissa (Gale) Demsky. She married Eugene Mallak on September 16, 1943. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1980. Donna graduated from Saginaw High School in 1937 and from Business School in 1939. She was a faithful member of the Catholic faith. Donna was employed in the Production Office at Lufkin Rule for five years and in the Accounts Payable Department at Sears & Roebuck for 38 years. Donna volunteered at the Michigan Community Blood Bank and attended the Deisler Funeral Home and Covenant Medical Center Grief Support Groups.

Donna leaves to cherish her memory a loving and caring daughter, Jeanne Mallak; a dear sister, Jeanette and Jim Anderson; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Demsky, Portland, OR; Lorraine Demsky, New Smyrna, FL; Patricia Demsky, Athen, GA; one brother-in-law, William Hart, West Branch, MI; one adopted sister, Kathy Hummon, Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters: Arthur Jr., Clifford and Vincent Demsky, Dorothy Schofield, Marion Napierala, Patricia Gale Hart, Susanne Demsky, Catherine Joan Demsky and Mary Clarissa Demsky, also a wonderful companion of many years, Donald (Doc) Savage.

Memorial Liturgy: A Memorial Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2006, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles, Rev. Emmett L. Marceau will officiate. Following Donna's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Michalski, Leo W.

Saginaw, MI

passed away Monday, August 28, 2006 at Covenant Health Care-Cooper Campus. Age 85 years. Leo W. Michalski was born September 17, 1920 to the late Priscilla and Vincent Michalski. He married Margaret Napolitano on October 4, 1947 in Saginaw. She survives him. Leo worked for Wicks Boiler/Combustion Engineering for 28 years. He served as the financial secretary of the Steel Workers Union. Leo was a Veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Corp. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #593 in Bridgeport, where he also served as the financial secretary. In his spare time, Leo enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Besides his wife, Leo is survived by three children, Tony and Linda Michalski, Michael J. Michalski, Mary Judith Tijerina and her fiancˇ Dave Mitchell; four grandchildren, Jennifer Michalski, Josh and Michelle Michalski, Carla Esmiller, Carey and David Rosales; six great-grandchildren, Ramon, Isiah, Sierra, Gabriel, Jacob and Miles; two sisters, Leona and Louise.

Leo was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Sylvester and four sisters, Gladys, Stella, Florence and Delphine.

FUNERAL - Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2006 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Fr. Robert Konopa, OFM will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. A military service will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post #439.

VISITATION - Friends may call at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State), on Thursday from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Rosary service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday under the direction of the Knights of Columbus Council #593.

Miller, Elouise G.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Saginaw Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation. Age 87 years. Elouise G. Stewart was born August 4, 1918 in Hebron, Nebraska the daughter of the late James W. and Louise D. (Vinkenberg) Stewart. She married Dr. Glen F. Miller on January 9, 1939; he predeceased her in 1977. Elouise was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two special cousins, Karen and Max Hinrichs, Margaret Reese, all of Nebraska; and special friends, Tom and Susan Bruce, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Joe and Sandy Diebold, Kathy Diebold, and their families. Elouise was preceded in death by one brother, Roger G. Stewart in 1977 and her stepmother, Zena Sprick in 1961, who helped raise Roger and Elouise.

FUNERAL: Funeral service will take place on Friday, August 4, 2006 in Hastings, Nebraska. Interment will take place in Parkview cemetery in Hastings, Nebraska. Local arrangements entrusted to The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State).

Miller, May G.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at her home. Age 84 years. May G. Reed was born May 31, 1922 to the late Kenneth & Lerana (Spencer) Reed. She married Able Miller. He preceded her in death. May was a member of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed shopping, country music, family reunions, get-togethers and spending time with her friends and family. Surviving are her seven children, Catherine (Ray) Mullins, Saginaw; Carol Schutt, Gaylord; Alice (Dave) Sabraw, Florida; Roger (Vicki) Favel; Sault Saint Marie; Julie (Steve) Davey, Texas; Gayle (Tina) Miller, Saginaw; Frank (Sally) Miller, Louisiana. May is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her twin sister, June Jones; four other sisters, Marla, Noreen, Meg, Mary Lou; one brother, Bob and several nieces and nephews. May was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Oehring and three brothers, Lawrence, Ed and Kenneth.

Following May's wishes, cremation has taken place.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at May's home, 2533 Longview, Saginaw, Michigan. Arrangements by the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State).

Murieko Frank C.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at his home. Age 93 years. Frank C. Murieko was born May 7, 1913 in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Grace (Radzoruriz) Murieko. Frank was a Veteran of WWII, he served in the 1st Wave of the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy Invasion, and his tour also took him through Iceland, Northern France, Ardennes, and Rhineland. He was a P.O.W. and was highly decorated with a variety of metals including a Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, a Good Conduct Metal and a Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; a 52-year member of American Legion Post # 439, and the V.F.W. Frank retired from Baker Perkins in the late 70's after over 30 years of service. He is survived by his son: Frank S. (Janelle) Murieko; grandchildren, Sgt. Kevin (Alisa) Myers, Ln Cpl Jared Murieko, April Murieko, and Justin Murieko; one great granddaughter, Isabel Myers; many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral: Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday; September 6, 2006 at the Deisler Funeral Home. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Military honors will be afforded under the auspices of American Legion Post # 439. Burial will be in Great Lakes National cemetery, Holly Mich.

Visitation: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State), on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Nagel, Esther C.

Saginaw Township, Michigan

passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center- Harrison. Age 85 years. Esther C. Gottleber was born on February 8, 1921 in Tawas City, Michigan. She married Calvin C. Nagel on July 24, 1944 in Galveston, Texas. He survives her. Esther was a member of the Lutheran faith. Surviving besides her husband, Calvin are one daughter, Bonnie and Terry Rupp, Saginaw; one son, Fred Nagel and his special friend, Jacque Ecker, all of Saginaw; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristin Rupp, Jason and Cassandra Rupp, Jill Nagel, Fred and Melissa Nagel Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Riley and Nia Rupp, Hannah, Madison, Brooke and Samantha Nagel. Esther was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janet Nagel, three brothers, Orville, Leonard and Milton Gottleber and three sisters, Ruth Uebler, Helen Benz and Martha Oblerder.

FUNERAL: Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Douglas Kahl will officiate. Friends may call at 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Private committal services will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Ortiz, Guadalupe 'Lupe'
Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 at her home. Age 87 years. Guadalupe Gonzalez was born February 18, 1919 to the late Rafael and Julia (Bocanegra) Gonzalez in, Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. She married Abelardo Ortiz on August 30, 1944 in Munger, Michigan. He preceded her in death June 4, 2005. Lupe had been employed by Vlasic Pickle Company. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are six children; Julian Ortiz Sr., San Antonio Texas; Teresita (Ricardo, Sr.) Lumbreras, Bay City; Abel Ortiz Jr., Saginaw; Jose Ortiz, Saginaw; Elvira (Tony) Rodriguez, Bay City and Pedro (Maria) Ortiz, Wellston Mich. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL - Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 902 N. Sixth St. Rev. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

VISITATION - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Lupe will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A vigil for Lupe will take place 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
