Proux, Minnie M.

Newburgh, Indiana

Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan

passed away at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh, Indiana after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Age 95 years. Minnie was born May 10, 1911 in Hillman, Michigan to Charles and Viola Curtis Buckler. She lived in Sandusky, Michigan before her family moved to Saginaw during her teenage years. Minnie married G. Edward Proux on June 23, 1932, and predeceased her in 1985 after being married over 50 years. Minnie was a member of The First Baptist Church in Saginaw for over 50 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Diaconate, and the Women's Society. She was also very active in Women's Circle ministries. Minnie moved with her daughter to Louisville, Kentucky in 2000 to live with one of her grandsons. The family then moved to Newburgh, Indiana in March 2006. Minnie is survived by her daughter, Beverly Jean Simpson, Newburgh, Indiana; two grandchildren, Dr. Mark Edward Simpson, Newburgh, Indiana; Brian David Simpson and his wife Jennifer, Brighton, Colorado; and two great-grandchildren, Geoffrey Christian Simpson and Graham Bennett Simpson, Brighton, Colorado. She is also survived by two brothers, Ray Buckler and wife Lela, Saginaw, and Martin Buckler, Oscoda; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother; Thressa Tank and husband Fred, Sandusky, Verna Webb and husband Oliver, Saginaw, Verneda Schartow and husband Howard, and Earl Buckler and wife Leona, Saginaw.

FUNERAL - A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Don Verner will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

VISITATION - Friends may call at the funeral home on Hemmeter from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2006 when the family will be present, and again on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

MEMORIALS - Those who desire may make memorials to The First Baptist Church of Saginaw for the new church building fund.

Reinke, Herbert 'Herb' T.

Livonia, Michigan

Formerly of Saginaw

Our loving, gentle father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital. Age 94 years. Herbert T. Reinke was born June 11, 1912 in Saginaw to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Hartman) Reinke. He married Arlene Ray on November 25, 1939 at Holy Family Rectory in Saginaw. She predeceased him October 20, 1990. Herb was retired from Baker Perkins in 1975 after more than 38 years of service. He then enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family. Herb was also an avid sports fan and was a lifelong member at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Herb is survived by his son, Ron (Karen) Reinke of Livonia; two grandsons, Steve (Nicole) Reinke of Northville, MI and Kevin Reinke of Oyster Bay, NY. Besides his wife and parents, Mr. Reinke was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Reinke and one sister, Mildred Bowers.

FUNERAL - Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate with entombment at Chapel Hill Mausoleum.

VISITATION - Friends may call at Deisler Funeral Home on Monday, September 11, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Rohn, Robert F.

Saginaw Twp., Michigan

passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper. Age 85 years. Robert F. Rohn was born December 28, 1920 in Saginaw to the late George and Ida (Kuhlman) Rohn. He was married to Jane S. Sadenwater on July 27, 1941 in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2006. Robert worked for Saginaw Steering Gear and retired from there after many years of service. Robert was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed attending church, spending time at his summer home in Lake City, entertaining friends and family, golfing, playing cards, and he was an avid sports fan. Robert is survived by two sons and one daughter, James Rohn of Saginaw, Gerald (Sharon) Rohn of Freeland, and Judy Ruppel and her special companion, Robert Kotcher, of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Heidi (Neal) McComas, Cory (Solveig) Ruppel, Amy (Dale) Bray, Tricia (Perry) Dare, Danielle (Adam) Crist; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madeleine and Jane Ruppel, Blake and Cody McComas, Alex, Joshua and Spencer Bray, Genevieve and Olivia Dare; his sister-in-law, Charlotte Nimeth of Lake City, MI; nieces, nephews and several friends. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Betty) Rohn.

FUNERAL-Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway. Pastor Mark Buckert will officiate with entombment to follow at Oakwood Mausoleum.

VISITATION-Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Sanchez, Daniel Sr.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. Age 56 years. Daniel Sanchez was born October 29, 1949 in Saginaw to the late Jesus and Amelia (Camacho) Sanchez. He married Janie Chacon on February 14, 1992 in Saginaw. She survives him. Daniel had been employed with Malleable Iron retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and graduated from their school in 1967. Daniel was a dedicated service man having served with the United States Army in Vietnam and awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion Post 500. He was a true blue Michigan Fan, he enjoyed playing cards, many trips to the casino and he loved his children, grandchildren and friends. In addition to his wife Daniel is survived by three children, Daniel Sanchez Jr., Delfina Sanchez, and Alejandro (Juanita) Sanchez all of Lansing; three step-children, Beaver (Christy) Rodriquez, Ruby Rodriquez and her special friend Lou, and Angel Rodriquez all of Saginaw; 13 grandchildren, Marcus, Willie, Ysati, Alexiah, Anthony, Baby Ali Jr., Rosie, Ronnie, Nadia, Bino, Thalia, Fat Man and Maya; father-in-law and mother-in-law, “The Lermas” Feliciano and Romana Chacon of Saginaw; five brothers, Jesse (Thelma) Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez, Joseph (Melissa) Sanchez, Raymond (Sandy) Sanchez, and David (Mickey) Sanchez; two sisters, Delores (Carl) Fehring and Gloria (Robert) Gonzalez; sister-in-law, Elena Sanchez; also special family friends Ray Cerda, (who was like a son) Mary, Nora, Leonard, and Jr; 3 Goddaughters Linda, Melissa, and Erika, and one Godson Sonny, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Sanchez, Louis Sanchez I and Louis Sanchez II; granddaughter, Angel Sanchez.

FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. Sixth St. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Military honors will be afforded by American Legion Post 439.

VISITATION: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., on Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Daniel will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A vigil for Daniel will be on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Schultz, Norma, M.

Saginaw Township, Michigan

passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006. Norma M. MacDonald was born on September 19, 1912 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William H. and Clara MacDonald. She married Walter H. Weber on September 20, 1939. He predeceased her. She married Lester R. Schultz on July 12, 1975. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1997. Prior to his death they lived in Bay City for 22 years. Norma moved to Saginaw in 1998. She was a 1930 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Before her retirement Norma was employed at Eaton Corporation, for ten years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the National Secretary’s Association, and People to People. Norma leaves the following survivors: a daughter, Sally A. Weber of Saginaw, a son, William H. (Colleen) Weber of Saginaw; two stepsons and two stepdaughters, Duane R. (Suzzanne) Schultz of Miami, Florida; James W. (Virginia) Schultz of Clarkston, Mich.; Susan Schultz of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and Janet (James) Hasty of West Branch, Mich. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Lisa Ruthig, Jeffrey Weber, Travis Weber, Evan Schultz, Sarah Schultz, Andrew Hasty, and Erin Hasty; four great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Alexis Ruthig and Emily and Christian Schultz. Norma was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tamara Terry, a great-grandson, Nicolas and one sister, Kathryn Will. Norma’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Edgewood.

FUNERAL: Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2006 at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot. Rev. Kathryn S. Snedeker will officiate. Private interment will take place in Forest Lawn cemetery.

VISITATION: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.

Shovan, Archie L.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at St. Mary's of Michigan. Age 84 years. Archie was born on August 14, 1922 in Saginaw to the late Lambert D. and Julia A. (McCullagh) Shovan. He married Jo Ann G. Schian on September 10, 1949. She predeceased him on May 1, 1996. Archie was employed at Dow Corning as a Production Superintendent for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church and served in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen S. and W. Gerry Miller III, Jacksonville, Fla.; Julie S. Dorcey, Saginaw; one son, Michael J. Shovan, Saginaw; two grandchildren, William G. Miller IV, Sara J. Miller and one special aunt, Marian C. Oeder. Archie was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Shovan. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the compassionate care given by the nursing staff at St. Mary's and the Saginaw Geriatrics Home.

FUNERAL: Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Marge Fobear will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Andrew Mausoleum.

VISITATION: Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at Noon.

Streeter, Doris Mae (Loomas)

Saginaw, Michigan

Her soul went to be with the Lord when her body died on Friday, August 25, 2006 at Brian's House Hospice Home in Bay City. Doris Mae Loomas was born on April 13, 1923 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Bert and Ethel (Carson) Loomas. She was raised in Flint and attended public schools there, graduating from Flint Central High School. She worked for Michigan Bell telephone as a service observer. After the war she married her school days sweetheart, Allen Raymond Streeter, in 1945. He survives her. In 1964 the family moved to Saginaw when he was transferred to Saginaw Steering Gear. In 2004 they moved to Swanhaven Manor, a retirement community in Thomas Township. Her special interests in addition to her family and church were children, watercolor painting, and poetry. She had published her autobiography, 'From Curtain Stretchers to Computers' and her poetry in 'A Sampler of Life.' Doris earlier served as choir director, elder and deacon and Stephen Minister at First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Saginaw Area Watermedia Artists and River Junction Poets. She was a Girl Scout leader while in Flint. In Saginaw she volunteered for READ Program and at Community Village for 20 years. In addition to her husband, Allen their three children: Kenneth (Karen) Streeter, Marcia Streeter and Janice (Frank) Talkington survive her. Other survivors are grandchildren: Daniel (Barbara) Streeter, Rebecca (Steven) Miller, Paul (Wendy) Streeter, Jennifer (Earl) Waite and Andrew Bejcek; also great-grandchildren: Britanny and Amanda Streeter; Steven, Brieana and Bethany Miller, Paul Streeter Jr. and Isabella Waite.

FUNERAL: Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison. Dr. Robert L. Emrich will officiate. Entombment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum.

VISITIATION: Friends may call at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Monday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. and at the church ion Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Whittin, Beatrice 'Bea'
Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Heartland Health Care Center. Age 82 years. Bea was born on December 16, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Rose Fayfer of Saginaw. She was a 1942 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a 1945 graduate of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. Her work as a registered nurse included the VA Hospital, Steering Gear Plant II, Saginaw County Health Department, Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital and Bay Regional Medical Center. Bea was a member of St. John Vianney Parish. She is survived by her daughters, Loreen Laracey and Lisa Roberts, her grandson, Dustin Roberts and her brothers, James and Walter Fayfer. Bea was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Julie Fayfer and Betty Coleman.

FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Road, Saginaw. Rev. Loren M. Kalinowski will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew cemetery.

VISITATION: Friends may call at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Bea will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Dukes, Lucy R.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Friday, October 6, 2006 at her home. Age 77 years. Lucy R. Reyes was born on July 1, 1929 in Saginaw to the late Maximo and Margaret Reyes. Lucy was employed at Saginaw Community Hospital retiring in 1988 after 33 years of service. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Surviving are a daughter, Toni (Jose) Espinosa; three grandchildren, Freddie (Yvette) Dukes, Jose (Priscilla) Espinosa, Marisela Espinosa; nine great-grandchildren, Angelita, Angelo, Mariano, Cecilia, Antonio, Jose Michael, Jose Jr., Santana and Alexander; a sister, Margaret (Javiel) Najar and many nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Joseph and Frank Reyes, Paulina Morales and Maria Salinas.

VISITATION: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State), on Sunday, October 8, 2006 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Cremation will follow.
