Dr. Douglas M. Jackson, 49

CHEBOYGAN -- Dr. Douglas M. Jackson, MD, 49, of Cheboygan, passed away Saturday Aug. 3, 2002.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 5, 2002, and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 6, 2002, at the Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan, with a wake service being held at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 7, 2002, at St. Mary's/St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Cheboygan.

Reinhardt H. Jahn, 78

RIVERSIDE, Ill. -- Reinhardt H. Jahn, son of Reinhardt G. Jahn of Chicago and Clara L. (Grawey) Jahn of Munro Township, died peacefully at his home in Riverside, Ill., Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.

Reinhardt was born on Feb. 20, 1924, and spent his youth in Chicago and the Grawey farm in Cheboygan. After serving in the Army during World War II he married Shirley Marie Richards and completed his education at the University of Wisconsin. Shirley and Reinhardt raised four children and he was very close to his seven grandchildren.

Reinhardt worked with his brothers in the family business, Chicago Metallic Corporation, serving as its President. He actively pursued civic responsibility, serving on many school, church, and community boards. Reinhardt had a passion for charitable service, particularly organizations involved in youth development and education. He will be fondly remembered by those he helped.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, brothers Loren A. and Martin D. of Chicago, and uncle Ray Grawey of Cheboygan, sons Reinhardt (Pat) of Cheboygan, Charles of Evanston, Ill., daughter Carolyn Jahn (James Kramer) of Willamette, Ill., and was preceded in death by his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Margaret.

A memorial service will be announced by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cheboygan Youth Center or the Cheboygan Salvation Army, organizations that Reinhardt was proud to support.

Joseph Miazga, 69

CHEBOYGAN -- Joseph Miazga, 69, of Cheboygan, died on Wednesdy, Feb. 5, 2003 at his home. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at the Christian Funeral Home. There will also be one hour of visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, whre a funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Straits. Envelopes for this purpose are available at the funeral home.

Naomi 'Noma' Goode, 93

VENICE, Fla. -- Naomi "Noma" Ruth Goode, 93, of Cheboygan, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003, in the home of her son in Venice, Fla. She was born in Ladysmith, Wis. on Nov. 19, 1909, the daughter of Edward and Safrona (Gordon) Franson. She married Harry Goode on Oct. 6, 1928 and they made their home in Cheboygan and Florida. Noma was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 1997, and son Lyle. Survivors include sons Robert (Shirley) Goode of Cheboygan and Larry (Bonnie) Goode of Venice, Fla.; daughter Diane Groover of Mackinaw City; 19 grandchildren, Susan (Vic) Mullins, of Virginia, Terry (Vonn) Goode, Brian Goode, Carol Ann (Clay) Ginop , Cindy (Mark) Singleton, Candy (Mark) Viau, Celeste (Mike) Marr, Gerri (Wes) Carter, Robert, Jr. (Rhonda) Goode, Cheryl (Terry) Blaskowski, David Goode, Shirley (Tom) Myers, Debbie (Chris) Presley, Duane (Becky) Goode, Karen (Carl) Koch, Melanie Collins, Michele Borowicz, Jason (Missy) Groover and Dr. Harold (Theresa) Patino; 44 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the Christian Funeral Home, where a funeral service will then be conducted at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Nancy Wood officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill cemetery in Cheboygan later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to hospice. The Christian Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bill E. Howard Sr., 82
LEVERING -- Bill E. Howard Sr., 82, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003. He was born April 20, 1920, in Springfield, Ill, the son of Leroy and Lottie (Williams) Howard. He married Helen Call on July 12, 1937, in Pontiac, Mich. Helen preceded him in death two months ago on Feb. 15, 2003. The Howards moved to Northern Michigan about 30 years ago and owned and operated the Levering Motel for about 13 years until their retirement. Mr. Howard was a long-time member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering, and a member of the Levering Lions Club. Bill loved to hunt and fish and watch sporting events on TV. He is survived by his children, Leroy (Susann) Howard of Levering, Bill Jr. (Cynthia) Howard of Levering, Linda (Charles) Henderson of Frederik, Mich., and Susan (Doug) Hancock of Gaylord; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond Howard of Oakland County. The family will receive callers from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, April 7, 2003, at the Nordman Funeral Home in Cheboygan. Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering, The Rev. Dennis Bromley will officiate. Burial will take place in Carp Lake Township cemetery later in the spring.

Robert E. MacEachron, 71
PETOSKEY -- Robert E. MacEachron, 71, of Burt Township, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Bortz Health Care facility in Petoskey. Private family services will be conducted at a later date at the Burt-Mullett cemetery in Topinabee. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Indian River Kiwanis or First Church of Christ Scientists of Cheboygan. Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River cared for the family.

Edward W. Valot, 79
CHEBOYGAN -- Edward William Valot, 79, born on April 17, 1923, the son of the late Charles E. and Theresa (Banks) Valot, passed away in the presence of his family at his home on Friday, April 4, 2003. He married Audrey Bettis of Vanderbilt at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cheboygan on June 16, 1945. Edward helped his parents on the family farm in Riggsville until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre during World War II. He was wounded in action in the Italian Campaign. Edward was an expert rifle marksman. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the infantry combat badge while serving his country. Edward managed the Nor Lan Inn restaurant in Cheboygan for 18 years. He also worked for Cheboygan Manufacturing for many years. Edward loved the outdoors. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. His loving wife, Audrey, always accompanied him on the excursions. He also was a life member of the DAV. Survivors include his wife, Audrey, of Cheboygan; children Darlene Friday of West Branch, Mich., Marlene (Anthony) Tyndall of Grand Blanc, Mich., Charlene (Mark) Wilson of Cheboygan and William (Kimberly) Valot of Cheboygan; sons-in-law Joseph Friday of Au Gres, Mich., and Charles Graham of Oden, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Beulah Hilla of Alpena, May Hawley of Detroit, Clem and Shirley Valot of Mackinaw City, Richard and Janet Valot of Cheboygan, Wayne and Darlene Valot of Nevada and Jean and Leonard Blaskowski of Cheboygan. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Mitchell Edward Valot; grandson David Wayne Wilson; brothers Harold and Raymond Valot; and sister Ruby Barber. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the Nordman Funeral Home in Cheboygan. A funeral service with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Pinehill cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of the Straits.

Shirley Jean Shick
Shirley Jean Shick, 62, Topinabee, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at home.
A resident of Topinabee for the past 30 years, after moving from Pensacola, Fla. Shirley was born July 17, 1946 in Pensacola, the daughter of Vernil and Eula Mae (Gideons) Howell. On Feb. 1, 1969 in South Mills, N.C., she married Jess Shick.
She enjoyed all outdoor activities, camping, fishing, and hunting, as well as bowling and softball, having coached a women’s softball championship team while in Pensacola. She also baked many items for Topinabee events, but her true love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a very charitable person who would help anyone in their time of need, never turning anyone away.
Surviving are her husband, Jess; children, Michael Mallory (Stephanie) Howell of Petoskey, Velda Lynn Savage of Panama City, Florida and Stephanie Kay Carson of Topinabee; five grandchildren, Alexandria and Jess Carson, Lucas Howell, and Lauren and Katie Bureck; and seven half brothers and sisters in Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., at the Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River. Rev. Marvin Redmond will officiate. Burial will be at Burt-Mullett cemetery in the spring.
Memorials may be made to the Ladies Guild at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cheboygan.

Esther Koen
Esther Koen, 81, Aloha Township, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at her home.
She was born Oct. 3, 1927 in Aloha Township the daughter of Gustau and Emma (Hahn) Musolff
Esther married Charles Koen on June 6, 1953. She loved to sew, make quilts and rugs, she was a hard worker and loved to help others.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; two sisters, Irene Hathaway of Cheboygan and Mildred (Harold) Timmerman of Cooperville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters and two brothers
Esther was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at the Oak Hill cemetery Aloha Township.

Roy Prillwitz
Roy Prillwitz, 73, Mackinaw City, passed away late Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at his home.
Roy was born in St. Joseph on Jan. 8, 1935, the son of Oscar and Edith (Schacks) Prillwitz. He served six years in the U.S. Army, mostly at Ft. Sill after World War II. He was discharged from the military with the rank of E-5. Roy attended Michigan State University for two years, receiving a degree in Agriculture Pomology.
He married Georgia Sheldon March 29, 1958 in Portage and they made their home in the Berrien Center area. Roy spent most of his working years in agriculture, farming over 1,200 acres, growing fruits and vegetables of all kinds for market. He and Georgia were well known for their farm and knowledge of farming. In later years Roy was. in agribusiness , growing green house plants from seed for sale to other farmers, as well as for market. He would ship over 1,000 Christmas trees every year, as well as hanging baskets, Christmas wreaths and poinsettia plants. He was a member of the Kellogg Farm student program at MSU, active in the Berrien area, a past member of the Rotary International, the Berrien Township Planning Commission and the Berrien Township Board of Review.
The Prillwitzs moved to the Mackinaw City area in 1994 following Roy’s retirement where they enjoyed their home on the beach. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, his dogs, his workshop in the basement and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV.
He is survived by his wife Georgia, one son, George Prillwitz; daughters Ann (Doug) DeHaan and Laura Jones (fiance’ Daniel Ostroski); granddaughter Lauren; and a sister, Doris Barn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glenn.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Lewis officiating,
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s or to the American Heart Association.

Lloyd D. Slembrouck
Lloyd D. Van Slembrouck, 83, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at Meadowview Manor in Saginaw.
He was the son of the late Cyril and Emma (Rocheleau) Van Slembrouck, born Aug. 8, 1925 in Cheboygan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Lloyd married Doris M. Sova on June 17, 1946. She preceded him in death April 20, 2003. Lloyd was employed at Consumers Power Co. as a lineman supervisor retiring in 1983. After retiring, he enjoyed driving cars for many car rental agencies. He was a charter member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, an usher at the church and a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 4332. Lloyd enjoyed his cottage at Eight Point Lake, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, dancing and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving are three daughters, two sons and their spouses, Janis and Jim Van Tiflin, Jim and Carla Van Slembrouck, Larry and Sandi Van Slembrouck, Kathy and Larry Henris, Sue and Dave Martin, all of Saginaw; 10 grandchildren, Jim (Rhonda), Michelle (Marc), Michael, Chad, Kelly, Kyle, Katie, Carly, Taylor and Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Courtney; two sisters, Aileen and Eugene Hebert, Erma LaVigne; a special friend, Elizabeth Krawczak; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by a son, Francis Van Slembrouck and two brothers, Leonard and Jerry.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Andrew cemetery with Military Services conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 1859. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., in Saginaw, where the family will be present on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knights of Columbus Council No. 4232 will pray the Rosary at 3 p.m. Thursday and a Vigil Service will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital Foundation.

Monda G. Fenstermaker, 52, Gaylord, formerly of Indian River and Tower, died on November 30, 2008 at home. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home.
