John Manuel Gomez "Johnny"

TECUMSEH

Johnny Gomez, age 55, of Tecumseh, died October 15, 2007 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, with his family by his side.

He was born May 7, 1952, in Tecumseh, MI, the son of Paul and Maria (Charo) Gomez.

Johnny was employed with Elias Bros. Big Boy Restaurants at the Pontiac Silverdome and Michigan International Speedway. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh.

Johnny is survived by his father Paul; 4 sisters, Yolanda Gomez of Tecumseh, Elvia (Arnaldo) Sanchez of Waxahachie, TX, Esther (Jerry) Williams of Addison, and Patricia (Joseph) Flores of Tecumseh; his brother, Raul (Bea) Gomez, Jr. of Tecumseh; 7 nieces; 7 nephews; and 16 great nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday October 19, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh, with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating.

Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday and 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. An additional visitation will take place one hour prior to funeral mass Friday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

A scripture service will take place 7:00 p.m. Thursday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Robert F. Baker

Arvada, Colorado

Robert (Bob) F. Baker, age 61, of Arvada, Colorado, formerly of Tipton, passed away unexpectedly October 16, 2007. Bob was born October 11, 1946 in Tecumseh the son of Juanita (Luce) Cox and Robert I Baker. In 1977 he married Margaret M. Morento in Ann Arbor, Mi. She survives.

He was a 1964 graduate of Tecumseh High School. Bob attended Northwood Institute, Loyola University of Chicago and obtained his Bachelors degree in business and accounting while serving in the U. S. Air Force from 1967 to 1970 in Colorado Springs. He worked for WGN and Anixter Brothers in Chicago, IL. He relocated to Arvada, CO and owned and operated Rocky Mountain Data Connections, Inc. He was a member of the Tipton Congregational Community Church.

Besides his wife Margaret, Bob is survived by his sons Robert Christian (Angie) and Brian David Baker, both of Arvada; daughter Anne Baker of Chicago, IL; parents Guy and Juanita Cox of Tipton; sisters Connie (James) Morse of Tecumseh, Cathy (Mikkel) Gammeltoft of Tipton, Cynthia (Scott) Upton of Spring, TX; brother Guy C (Kris) Cox of Tecumseh; sisters in law Geraldine Baker of Las Vegas, NV, Carol Morento and Rosemary Anichini, both of Chicago; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, Robert I. Baker, he was preceded in death by his brother Timothy N. Baker and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, October 22. 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the Rev. John Deuble officiating.

Burial will follow in Franklin cemetery, Tipton with military honors performed by the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and Tecumseh VFW Post #4187.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Virginia Bailey

Grand Rapids, MI

Virginia Bailey, age 80, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Tipton, born November 16, 1926, passed away on October 16, 2007.

A graduate of the University of Indiana, she taught elementary school for 20 years in the Tecumseh Public School System.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Freida (Erdmann) Haselbeck. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Max, 3 children, Ginger Carrick (Dexter) of Traverse City, William Edward Bailey of Kentwood, and Owen Herman Bailey (Tina) of Lake Orion, 4 grandchildren (Darcia, Nathan, Jessica, Justine), and 2 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Keystone Community Church in Ada, Michigan, on October 27, 2007, at Noon with Pastor Gene DeJong officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Forrest Daniel Hawk

CLINTON, MI

Forrest D. Hawk, age 81, of Hilldale, MI, died October 17, 2007 at Habourside Care Home, Bryan, OH.

He was born May 13, 1926 in Jackson, MI, the son of Carl and Bernice (Campbell) Hawk.

He is survived by a son, Daniel Hawk of Clinton, MI.

Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements by J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, MI.

Gwendolyn Quigley Cox

Tecumseh, MI

Gwendolyn Quigley Cox, age 92, of Tecumseh, passed away October 21, 2007.

She was born February 11, 1915 in Riga, Michigan to Clarence F. and Emma (Loar) Miller. A native of Lenawee County all her life, she had been a rural school teacher and a U. S. postal clerk. She also did volunteer work in hospitals, schools and church. Gwen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh.

Gwen is survived by one son, Herbert (Julie) Quigley; one grandson, Donald Quigley; three grand daughters, Luella (Jim) Morgan, Sally Hahn, and Peggy (Joseph) O'Neal; four great grandchildren, Ashley and Elizabeth O'Neal, Holly and Brandon Quigley. She is also survived by Patricia Naugle Quigley - the mother of her grandchildren.

Besides her first husband John C. Quigley in 1968, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother Gerald C. Miller; sisters Natalie Gentz and Constance Pentland and her second husband, Charles I Cox in 1974.

Gwen enjoyed sending notes of encouragement, hope and praise to her family, friends and her Church family. She believed in saying, "I love you, I care" while it could be heard, and sending flowers while they could be seen and smelled.

At her request, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. Gwen requests no flowers.

If one wishes, send them to someone who can enjoy them. Her favorite charities were her Tecumseh Presbyterian Church and the New Garments Always for needy school children.

The family would also like you to consider Great Lakes Hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Eugenia "Jean" Vere

ADRIAN

Eugenia "Jean" Vere, age 85, of Adrian, passed away October 22, 2007 while being attended to by her family. She was born September 21, 1922 in Doe Creek, Estill County, Kentucky, the daughter of Ruford and Grace (Alcorn) Sparks.

She was a graduate of Estill County High School Class of 1940 - Valedictorian. On September 10, 1940, she married Gaylord J. Vere in Wauseon, OH. They were happily married for 62 years until he passed away in 2003.

In addition to her husband Gaylord, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Delmus; parents; and beloved son, George N. Vere in 1994.

She is survived by her son Gale W. Vere; grandchildren, Kyle M., Kathryn Jean, and Travis George Vere.

Also surviving are 3 sisters, Catherine (Raymond) Flynn of Brodhead, KY, Christine Newton, and Armeda Newton, both of Irvine, KY; a brother, Thomas Gordon (Eva) Sparks of Mt. Sterling, KY; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loved ones including: Ruth and Steve Dusseau, Marie Linehan, Rose Vaughn, and Pastor Michael Vickers and his wife Sandy.

Eugenia was a dedicated Southern Baptist. She served the church for over 70 years and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Adrian. She served on the Michigan State Board - Women's Missionary Union, was a Sunday School teacher, and was head of the Girls Auxiliary where she was able to touch many lives of many young ladies in our community.

She was partner with Gaylord in businesses that included a used car and trailer lot and real estate.

Their hobby was raising and racing standard bred race horses.

Eugenia's favorite scripture was: Matthew 6:20-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Eugenia loved and was loved by many people.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1010 State Street, Adrian, MI, with Rev. Michael Vickers presiding. Interment will follow at Palmyra cemetery, Palmyra, MI. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a funeral dinner in honor of Eugenia will take place at Bethel Baptist Church, Adrian.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian and from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service Friday at Bethel Baptist Church, Adrian.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Adrian.

Barbara Swift Daykin

Belleville, MI

Barbara Swift Daykin, age 72, of Belleville, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away October 23, 2007. Barbara was born November 27, 1934 in Tecumseh, Michigan the daughter of Russell and Ola (Swift) Hall.

On April 3, 1954 she married Douglas Daykin in Tecumseh.

Barbara graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1952 and went on to attend secretarial school. She worked for Tecumseh Products and when she and her husband relocated to Florida in 1980 she worked for the Florida Department of Corrections.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh.

Besides her husband Douglas, she is survived by her sons, Mark (Lauren) Daykin of Belleville and Terry (Chris) Daykin of Belleville; daughter, Candice Daykin of Texas and niece, Patricia Romanowicz of Michigan; grandchildren, Amy Daykin, Terry Daykin, Jr., Cynthia Daykin, Paris Daykin, and Charlie Keller; and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty May, Mary Pilbeam, and Bonnie Ernst and brothers Doug and Richard Hall.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 P. M. Friday, October 26, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Russell Fahringer

ADRIAN

Russell Fahringer, age 76, of Adrian, died October 26, 2007.

He was born November 5, 1930, in Napoleon, OH, the son of Francis and Freda (Dietrich) Fahringer.

On May 14, 1966 he married Betty L. Buck in Adrian, MI. She survives.

Russell was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends.

He attended Daybreak Adult Day Services, Adrian.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by four daughters, Jody (Doug) Baird of Clinton, Cheryl (Ken) Nix of Adrian, Tina (Mark) Logan of Adrian, and Laurie Burkhardt; four grandchildren, Timothy Tracy, Michael Tracy, Tiffany Logan, and Jakob Logan; sister, Delores (Carl) Roe of Millbury, OH; and half sister Margaret Burkhardt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Vernon and Cyrus; and a sister, Valerie.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday October 29, 2007 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, MI, with Pastor Ken Gilmore officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Hill cemetery, Napoleon, OH, with military honors conducted by the Ohio National Guard Military Honors Funeral Team.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.
