John Joseph Baran

Tecumseh, MI

John Joseph Baran, age 86, of Tecumseh, passed away December 4, 2007 surrounded by his loving family.

John was born April 4, 1921 in Taunton, MA the son of Joseph and Tekla (Tabak) Baran. On May 31, 1969 he married Irene King in Allen Park. She survives.

He was a 1939 graduate of Coyle High School in Taunton, MA.

He attended Notre Dame University, St. Edwards University and Indiana State University where he received his Master's Degree in education.

He was a Brother of the Order of the Holy Cross of Notre Dame.

He taught as a Brother from 1942 to 1968 at various places throughout the United States. including Boysville of Macon.

From 1968-1971 he taught at Maurice Spear Campus, Adrian where he then became Principal and Director for eighteen years. John was an active member at St. Elizabeth church in Tecumseh.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served in various capacities, including their prison ministry.

For over 20 years, John volunteered weekly through St. Elizabeth and Herrick Hospital, making regular visits to the ill and homebound. He frequently was accompanied by the love of his life, Irene.

In 1997 John and Irene were named county volunteers of the year by the Lenawee United Way.

Besides his wife Irene, John is survived by his son, Rick Baran; grandchildren Megan, Heather, Christopher, and Alicia and daughter-in-laws Penny and Becky. Also daughter in laws, Anita; and sons, Matthew and Mark Baran and Judy and her daughters Debra and Sandra; stepchildren, Jack and Peggy Barta and their children, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Tina, and Ben; four sisters and three brothers. John was a very loving, nurturing, and devoted grandfather playing an active role in their lives.

He was preceded in death by a son Jim in 2001; a stepson Joseph Barta in 1998 and a sister Millie.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, December 10, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 - 8 P. M. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M., Sunday, December 9, 2007 and one hour prior to the service Monday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh. A rosary will be held at 7:00 P. M. Sunday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's, the Knights of Columbus or Hospice of Lenawee.

Donald M. Raymond

Tipton, MI

Donald Raymond, age 80, of Tipton, passed away December 6, 2007. Donald was born April 27, 1927 in Adrian, MI the son of William and Goldie (Watkins) Raymond. He was married to Juanita Richardson. She preceded him in death in 1971.

Donald was a World War II Veteran serving in the U. S. Navy. He was employed by Tecumseh Products, retiring in 1987 after 40 years of service. Donald was a lifetime member of the Tecumseh V, F. W. He enjoyed outdoor activities and making people laugh.

Donald is survived by his long time companion, Bernice Shadley; his children Larry (Darlene), Garry, Vicki (George) Tripp, Beverly, and Pam (Randy) Butler; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Doris Love; brothers, Charles (Luana) and Carl.

Besides his wife Juanita, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter in law, Penny; brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P. M. Monday, December 10, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Hone, Tecumseh with Pastor Marge Host officiating. A private family burial will follow at Franklin cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be 3 - 7 P. M. Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Kenneth R. Snyder

Tecumseh, MI

Kenneth R. Snyder, age 94, of Tecumseh, passed away July 5, 2007.

Kenneth was born July 12, 1912 in Lafayette, Ohio the son of Clyde and Jeanette (Slover) Snyder.

Kenneth has lived in the Tecumseh area since 1999 coming from Crossville, TN.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. Kenneth is survived by his son, Thomas (Marie) Snyder and daughter, Peggy Breitenwischer both of Clinton; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen M. Snyder in 1993.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place with a private family burial of cremains at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.

Arrangements were entrusted to the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Eula May Avery

Tecumseh, MI

Eula May Avery, age 86, of Tecumseh, went to be with her Lord July 3, 2007 at her home where she has lived for 68 years. Eula was born in Jackson, Michigan, on October 24, 1920 to Rev. Pierre and Monabelle (DeCamp) Hawley.

On October 24, 1939 she married Wm. D. Loren Avery in Ridgeway. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1991. Eula graduated from Britton High School in 1938. She was a faithful member of the Tecumseh Evangelical Friends Church, Sunday School Class and Bible study group. She served her Lord as pianist and organist in several area churches beginning in her fathers church when she was twelve years old. Over the years she also served as Sunday School teacher, youth leader, orchestra director, and numerous other capacities. Eula worked as a dental assistant in Tecumseh for Dr. D. L. Phelan for fifteen years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, sister and friend to many.

Eula is survived by two sons, Floyd (Sharon) Avery of Georgia and Dennis (Nancy) Avery of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Julie Avery of Idaho, Jill (Robert) Ware of Idaho, Will Avery of Indiana, Matthew (Kerri) Avery of Idaho, Tina (Rodney) Smythe of Indiana, Tonya Avery of Indiana, and Milan Avery of Indiana; twelve great grandchildren, Jacob (Jenzi) Ware of Idaho, Ryan Smythe of Indiana, Nathan Avery of Indiana, Chris Avery of Indiana, Christopher Ware of Idaho, Ashley Avery of Indiana, Kimberly Ware of Idaho, Anthony Avery of Indiana, Grace Smythe of Indiana, Alissa Avery of Idaho, Alison Smythe of Indiana, and Joseph Avery of Idaho; one great great grandson Tripp Ware of Idaho; one sister, Naomi (Lee) Spohr of Adrian; one sister in law, Leona Hathaway of Tecumseh; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Tecumseh Evangelical Friends Church with the Revs. David Kopka and Michael Dunson officiating.

Burial will follow in Ridgeway cemetery, Ridgeway.

Visitation will be 2 - 5 and 6 - 8 P. M. Sunday, July 8, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tecumseh Evangelical Friends Church, Hospice of Lenawee, or the charity of your choice.

Rosemary Ann Borgerson

Tecumseh, MI

Rosemary Ann Borgerson, of Tecumseh, passed away July 10, 2007.

Rosemary was born February 5, 1935 in Ypsilanti, Michigan the daughter of Norvald and Vera (Thompson) Borgerson. She unconditionally loved her children and grandchildren.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Stephanie, Kalley, and Julie; grandchildren; great grandchildren; brothers; sister; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by children, Tommy, Jeffrey, and Karen; brother; and her parents.

Graveside services will be 1:00 P. M. Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the East Montcalm cemetery, Greenville, Michigan. Burial will follow. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Friday, July 13, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Mary Ellen Spreeman

Deerfield, MI

Mary Ellen Spreeman, age 78, of Deerfield, passed away July 14, 2007.

Mary Ellen was born October 21, 1928 in Britton, Michigan the daughter of Harry and Leona (Theeke) Amstutz. On April 1, 1948 she married Richard Spreeman. He preceded her in death.

Her enjoyment in life was playing cards, bingo, and above all, her children.

Mary Ellen is survived by her sons, Gary (Rita) Spreeman and Richard Spreeman; daughter Sondra (Robert) Nagy; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Harold, Samuel, and Dan Amstutz; and sisters, LouAnn (Bruce) McCarty and Karen Amstutz.

Besides her husband Richard, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by a son, David; parents; and sister Rita Sprunk.

Memorial services will be 7:00 P. M. Monday, July 18, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

James (Jack) R. Elledge

Adrian, MI

James R. Elledge, age 77, of Adrian, passed away July 14, 2007.

James was born April 2, 1930 in Griffithville, AR the son of Cleveland and Lula (Boatman) Elledge. On September 16, 1950 he married Blanche Fite in Griffithville, AR. She survives. James was employed at the Tecumseh Products for 43 years. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy where he sang and played his guitar. He also wrote many of the songs he sang which the congregation enjoyed. In his earlier years some of his hobbies were hunting, fishing and trapping.

Besides his wife Blanche, James is survived by his children, Diane (Patrick, Sr.) Salter, Brenda (George) Gilbert, Jackie Allen, and John (Karen) Elledge; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two step sisters; two step brothers; a brother Elvis (Kaye); and a special nephew, Wayne Elledge.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the

J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with the Rev. David Bolton officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Michael L. Reed

Fountain Hills, Arizona

Michael L. Reed, age 48, of Fountain Hills, AZ, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away suddenly, July 17, 2007,

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Richard Mortimer officiating.

Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be 12:00 - 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 before the service at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
