Arlene Papp

Tecumseh, MI

Arlene Papp, age 91, of Tecumseh, passed away October 4, 2007 at home. Arlene was born January 23, 1916, in Milan Township the daughter of John and Marjorie (Booth) Taylor. On September 1, 1936 she married Michael Papp in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1996.

Arlene was a 1934 graduate of Clinton High School. She lived at her present address for over 55 years. She worked for Ford Motor Company and retired from J. C. Penney's. One of her favorite past times was sewing. The love of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her sense of humor will live on in the memories of her family and friends. Arlene was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church.

Arlene is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Monagin of Tecumseh and Janet (Larry) Miller of Saline; five grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Benedict, Jennifer (Scott Stull) Monagin, John Monagin, Darren (Tammy) Miller and Dan (Kristen) Miller; six great grandchildren, Taylor and Max Benedict, Alex and Kevin Miller, and Maddie and Sam Miller.

Besides her husband, Michael, Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and son in law, Dale Monagin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, October 8, 2007 at the Macon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lance Ness officiating. Burial will follow in Macon cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Memorial contributions may be made to Macon United Methodist Church or Great Lakes Hospice. The family wishes to thank Charlotte Wood, Ellie Morgan, and the caregivers from Home Instead.

RUBY (TUCKER) PEARSON

Ruby Ruth Pearson, 95 went to be with her Lord and Savior, May 17, 2007, at Provincial House, Adrian, Michigan. Ruby was born June 13, 1911 in Canadian, Oklahoma to John Riley and Edna Pearl (Brown) Tucker, She was the eldest of 11 children. Ruby married Charles C. Pearson Sr. on October 24, 1928, in Oklahoma. He preceded her, in death, May 17, 1985. Ruby and Charlie moved to Adrian, Michigan October 12, 1943, then to Tecumseh, in 1950.

Ruby was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Adrian, serving the Lord faithfully for 62 years. She loved to entertain visiting missionaries in her home. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ruby is survived by three children: Charles (Donna) Pearson of Adrian, Clark (Flo) Pearson of Tecumseh, Roger (Maureen) Pearson of Ocala, FL; 14 grandchildren: Deborah (Allen) Hatt, of Jasper, Craig (Patty) Pearson, Stephen (Jan) Pearson, Jamie (Dawn) Pearson, of Adrian, Joy (Bob) Scott, of Tecumseh, Jackie (Don) Pickinpaugh, of Adrian, Terry Pearson, of Alabama, Mark (Shelly) Pearson, of Adrian, Ellen (Del) Morgan, of Tecumseh, Dean (Tammy) Pearson, of PA., Earl (Kris) Pearson of Ocala, FL., Duane Pearson, of TN, Tracy (Traci) Pearson of NC. Jesse Pearson of FL. 32 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Pauline Butler of Lawton, OK and Jettra (Dave) Gardner of Jasper, MO; 4 brothers, L. D. "Choc" (Florence) Tucker of Stigler, OK, Chester (Mary Lou) Tucker of Duncan, OK, J. D. (Faye) Tucker of Adrian, MI., Troy Noble Tucker of Georgetown, TX. and a dear sister-in-law Belvia Tucker, of OK.

Preceded in death besides her husband, one child Benjamin Dale, one brother and three sisters.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Berean Baptist Church, 751 W. Maumee St. in Adrian, with Rev. Don Pickinpaugh and Pastor Doug Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh. Friends may call at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Adrian from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 19 and 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Berean Baptist Missions Fund or Daybreak Adult Daycare.

Helen E. Hodges

Tecumseh

Helen E. Hodges, age 92, of Tecumseh, passed away quietly at her home May 18, 2007. Helen was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 22, 1914 the daughter of Edward and Edith (Poppenger) Leighton. When she was a few months old the family moved to Tecumseh and she was a resident of the community for the remainder of her life. After graduation from Tecumseh High School in 1932 she became a teller with the United Savings Bank at its original location on the northwest corner of Chicago Boulevard and Evans Street. Later she was the secretary to William Berkhoff, the superintendent of the Tecumseh Public Schools. On Thanksgiving day, November 26, 1936 she married B. Dwight Hodges and they enjoyed nearly 51 years together. After her children were grown she became the secretary of the First United Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh and later resumed employment as a teller for the United Savings Bankat the Herrick Park Branch, retiring in 1974.

Helen was a life member of the Eastern Star and the Tecumseh Area Historical Society.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and knitting and made beautiful bedspreads and pillows of her own design.

She enjoyed traveling and, with her husband, was active in the Eastern Star. She enjoyed attending Adrian Symphony Orchestra concerts, Opera Lenawee productions, plays and musicals at the Croswell Opera house and the Tecumseh Civic Auditorium as well as programs sponsored by the Tecumseh Area Historical Society. She loved being a grandmother and had many wonderful times with her granddaughters Kirsten and Sherri who will greatly miss their "grandma."

Helen is survived by her daughter Jane (Ronald) Wyatt of Port Austin, MI and her son Edward of Tecumseh, Two granddaughters, Kristen (John) Allen of Ypsilanti and Sherri (Christopher) Halucha of Hampton Bays, NY and four great grandchildren.

Besides her husband Dwight, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Monday, May 21, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Betty Jo Bradley

ADRIAN

Betty Jo Bradley, age 76, of Adrian, passed on to meet her Lord, May 22, 2007 at her home.

Betty was born July 24. 1930 in Paintsville, KY, to William and Hulda (Sparks) Nichols. On May 6, 1950, she married Isaac Bradley, Jr. and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2004.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharlotte Cundiff and her husband Robert of Adrian; grandchildren, Joely of Adrian, Corey and his wife Gay of Adrian, Nathan and his wife Mary of Onsted, and Simon and his wife Sarah of Onsted; great grandchildren, Emily. Elizabeth, Ariel, Christopher, and Isaac; many nieces, nephews, brother, sisters in law, and many friends all who will miss her.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hulda Nichols; sisters, Alice Waugh, Mavis Hammonds, Mary Allen, and Martha Nichols; and brothers, Edward, Donald, and Delbert Nichols.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Frank Howard officiating.

Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh, MI.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service on Friday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

MILO (MIKE) S. STUDNICKA

Milo S. Studnicka, age 83, of Tecumseh, passed away May 23, 2007.

Milo was born August 14, 1923 in Ogden Center, Michigan, the son of Anthony and Helen (Froelich) Studnicka. Milo was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II as a squad leader in the Southern Phillipines and New Guinea. He received many military honors for his tour of duty. Milo worked at Tecumseh for forty four and a half years retiring in February, 1990. He was a lifetime member of the Tecumseh American Legion and the Adrian VFW. Some of his loves were hunting, fishing, winemaking, and he was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan.

Milo is survived by his three daughters Debra (Dennis) Kelley of Deltona, Fl., Diana (James) Morton of Denver, CO, and Deana Studnicka of Denver, CO; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Wood of CA.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Frances and Mary Ann; and three brothers Henry, Charles, and Leslie.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery with military honors conducted by the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and the Tecumseh VFW Post #4187. Visitation will be 4 - 8 P. M. Friday, May 25, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with a memorial service conducted by the 40 & 8 at 7:00 P. M.

HELEN M. SIBSON

Whitmore Lake, MI

Helen M. Sibson, age 88, of Whitmore Lake, passed away May 25, 2007. Helen was born January 28, 1919 in Dansville, MI the daughter of Myron and Rose (Elford) Corwin, Jr. She married Henry Lehman and he preceded her in death. In 1965 she married Earl Sibson. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2005.

Her loves in life were baking and dancing. Helen retired from the Whitmore Lake Schools as a bus driver. She was a member of the Hamburg VFW. Helen is survived by three children David (Sandy) Lehman, Anna Rose Mann, and Dale (Sue) Lehman; three step children Sharon (John) Kennedy, Paul (Janann) Sibson and Phillip Sibson; 13 grandchildren Sonja, Lonnie, John Jr., Troy, Shari. Julie, Teri, Tami, Dion, Tina, Barry, Brian, and Danette; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Interment will follow at Arborcrest Memorial Park, Ann Arbor.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P M. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saline Evangelical Home.

CRIT MILLS

Adrian, MI

Crit Mills, age 80, of Adrian, passed away May 7, 2007.

Crit was born November 19, 1926 in Barboursville, KY the son of Ike and Fannie (Smith) Mills. In February 13, 1947 he married Beatrice Gregory in Fount, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1991.

He was a wonderful father and will be greatly missed by his family. He loved to fish, hunt, and garden.

Crit is survived by three sons Ellis of Jackson, Crit, Jr. of Corbin, KY, and Lonnie Ray of Jackson; three daughters Carol (John) Croad of Adrian, Martha (Bernie) Bryant of Somerset Center, MI and Troy Brown of Onsted; one twin sister Sally of Ky; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Beatrice he was preceded in death by, parents; his brothers and sisters; a son in law Larry; and two grandsons, .

Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with the Rev. King officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson cemetery, Columbia Township, MI.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 P. M. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Beverly J. McGown

Adrian, MI

Beverly J. McGown, age 63, of Adrian, passed away enexpectantly May 11, 2007.

Beverly was born February 15, 1944 in Tecumseh, Michigan the daughter of Leroy and Mary Alice (Kitchen) Bowers. On May 31, 1985 she married George McGown in Ironton, Ohio. He preceded her in death. She was very much loved and will be deeply missed by all.

Beverly is survived by four daughters Tammy (Timothy) Black, Tracy (John) Pratt, Tiffaney Spiegel, and Amy (Derek) Kozumplik all of Adrian; one sister Alice Karr of Adrian; one brother Garry Bowers of Lakeland, FL; and 11 grandchildren.

Besides her husband George, she was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with the Rev. Scott Winstead officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Adrian. Visitation will be 5 - 8 P. M. Monday, May 14, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Cynthia Childers Avalos

Hudson, MI

Cynthia Childers Avalos. age 37, of Hudson, passed away May 15, 2007 Cynthia was born July 2, 1969 in Hudson, Michigan the daughter of James Childers, Sr. and Sharon Childers. On February 22, 2002 she married Guy Avalos. He survives.

She was a beautiful, caring person that will be greatly missed by all.

Besides her husband Guy, Cynthia is survived by her parents James Childers, Sr. and Sharon Sutherland; her daughter Shandi; son Scott; granddaughter Kelsey; brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and one niece.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Calvin Walden officiating. Visitation will be 4 - 6 P. M. Friday, May 18, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.
