Alpha E. Franklin

TECUMSEH, MI

Alpha E. Franklin, age 95, of Tecumseh, passed away February 24, 2008. She was born October 25, 1912 in Letcher Co., KY, the daughter of Stephen & Ollie (Franklin) Blair. She married Elza Franklin in Kentucky; he preceded her in death in 1992.

She is survived by her children; Van Dale Franklin of Detroit, Louella (Frank) Rose of Dayton, OH, and Loretta (Graby) Miller of Tecumseh, eleven grandchildren & thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Elza, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son Carl D. Franklin, four brothers, Clifford, Arnold, Woodford, and Estil Blair.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, February 29, 2008, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor David King officiating. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Ellis F. Sponsler

ONSTED

Ellis F. Sponsler, age 49, of Onsted, died Feb. 26, 2008 at the Toledo Hospital.

Ellis is survived by his daughter, Sally (Jeff) Bushroe of Adrian; a son, Dakota Sponsler at home; mother, Cora Sponsler of Adrian; grandson, Jacob Bushroe; and two sisters, Shirley Sponsler of Adrian, and Nancy of Adrian.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert Henry Sponsler, and brother Gerald.

Memorial services will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 1, 2008 at The Salvation Army, 217 W. Church St. Adrian, MI 49221, with Capt. Gordon Knight officiating.

Aaron Nicholas Granby

Tecumseh, MI

Aaron Nicholas Granby, of Tecumseh, born February 20, 2008, the son of Derek Granby and Amanda Rochowiak passed away February 27, 2008 at University Hospitals, Ann Arbor.

Aaron is survived by his parents; his identical twin brother, Damien; siblings Dillen and Kaydence; grandparents, Lisa and Chris Rochowiak and Charlotte and Joseph Bannas. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Granby.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with family and friends officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon Sunday, March 2, 2008 until the time of service.

Rudy Tomko

CLINTON

Rudolph S. Tomko, age 79, of Clinton, died February 28, 2008 at home.

He was born June 3, 1928 in West Leisenring, PA, the son of John and Anna Tomko.

Rudy was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Aleutian Islands just after WWII.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Clinton.

Rudy was retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant.

Rudy is survived by three sons, Rudolph A. of Ypsilanti; Regis S. (Terese) of Britton, and Ronald (Mary) of Britton; grandchildren. Melissa (Scott) McKelvey, April (Evan) Gutierrez, Valerie Gutierrez; Kelsey Tomko, and Jennifer and Joshua Swiecicki; 4 great grandchildren, Jacob, Brady, Kanton, and Kole; a brother, Frank (Florence) of Manchester; and his beloved German shepherd, Blaze.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Veronica and Anna, and brothers, John, Mike and Alex.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Clinton, with Rev. Fr. Paul Ruddy officiating.

Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Home Tecumseh.

A Scripture service will also take place 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dominic Church.

Gerald Lee Fox

Tecumseh, MI

Gerald Lee Fox, age 66, of Tecumseh, passed away February 29, 2008 after a brief illness with his loving family surrounding him.

Born May 20, 1941 in Jackson, MI he retired from the Tecumseh Products in 2000 after 40 years of service.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, Tecumseh Club and VFW.

Jerry married in 1959 and is survived by his wife Linda (Whelan), sons Teryl (Sandra), Gregory (Kathy), daughter Barbara (Terry) Ford, three grandchildren, Tara Ford, Tiffani Ford, Chase Fox; his brother Roger (Lorraine) Fox and sister Diane Fox.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Max and Faye (Jordan) Fox.

Visitation will be 11:00 A. M. to 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, followed by a 1:00 P. M. memorial service at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Thelma Lidster

Thelma Leota (Rickard) Lidster

At age 96 of Blissfield, Michigan passed away at 5:15am on February 29, 2008 in the Provincial House of Adrian, Michigan.

Thelma was born March 31, 1911 in Deerfield, Michigan to the late Hayes McDonald & Mary Ellanora (Blanton) Rickard.

Thelma was the widow of Arland E. Lidster. They were married on December 25, 1949. She was a member of the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene and the Missionary Society for 58 years serving in many offices. She was an excellent cook and baker.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, two sisters, one grandson Kurt McNeil, two daughters Dorothy Florine Baker and Beth Sharon Meyer. She is survived by one son Cloyce Lidster (Elaine) of Dalhart, Texas, two daughters Joyce McNeil of Bellaire, Michigan and Jeanette DeWitt of Stryker, Ohio, two son-in-laws Donald Baker of Clinton, Michigan and James Meyer of Tucson, Arizona, one sister-in law Leoma Rickard of Tecumseh, Michigan, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit on March 8, 2008 during the hours of 2:00-8:00pm at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Adrian, Michigan on 2959 N. Adrian Highway (M- 52).

Funeral service will be at the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene on Ridge Road in Ridgeway, Michigan March 9, 2008 at 2:00pm with Rev. Ray Hansen and Rev. Mike Dunson officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway cemetery, Ridgeway. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Society of the Church of the Nazarene.

Donald W. Watkins

Adrian, MI

Donald William Watkins, 78, of Adrian, went to be with the Lord, on March 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born November 11, 1929, in Angola, IN, the son of Howard & Wanda (Spiess) Watkins. He married Joanne Scholl on April 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on September 19, 1996. Donald was formerly employed by Tecumseh Products Co. and Faraday in Tecumseh and later self employed as owner of Adrian Heating & Cooling

He served his country in the National Guard from 1948 - 1951.

He is survived by his children, Larry (Patt) Watkins of Toledo, OH, Cathy (Donald) Curtis of Clayton, Vicky (Steve) Martin of Mason, OH, Debra (Tony) Carr of Adrian, and Diane (Bill) Ellenwood of Adrian, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, Walter J. Anderson, and one sister, Shirley Pickford of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Rev. Bill Ellenwood, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Weston cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Adrian VFW Post 1584 Annis Fint. Visitation will be on Monday, March 3, 2008, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM & on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the time of service at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Alvin Triemstra

KALAMAZOO, MI

Alvin Triemstra, 66, of Kalamazoo passed away March 1st 2008 in Battle Creek. Alvin was born August 26th 1941 in Kalamazoo to Thomas and Anderia Triemstra. Alvin was in the United States Army for almost ten years and served the last three years in Vietnam. He married Ellen Vo’ and they returned to Kalamazoo in November of 1969. They adopted a little girl, Kristen in 1980. After 24 years of marriage they parted ways and continued to share the responsibilities of raising their daughter.

Alvin was a great father and terrific guy. You could always count on him to be there either to make you laugh or just listen to you cry. If Al had ten dollars in his pocket and you needed twenty he would get it for you, no strings attached. He will be loved and missed by his family and friends.

Al is survived by his daughter; grandsons David and Davontis; dear friend Christina and her daughters Mikayla and Melody; friends at the gazette; Sister Sinnie Vlietstra; Brother Bert Triemstra; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arthur G. Jedele

Tecumseh, MI

Arthur G. Jedele, age 96, of Tecumseh, passed away March 5, 2008 at Herrick Manor.

Arthur was born February 17, 1912 in Clinton the son of Godtfred and Emma (Feldkamp) Jedele. On April 27, 1935 he married Crystle Fortman in Angola, Indiana. She survives.

Arthur and Crystle lived and worked on their farm for 18 years. He also worked for Tecumseh Products retiring in 1975 after 38 years of service. After retiring, Art and Crystle spent 12 winters in Florida.

His great love for fishing took him to North Bay, Canada and Kissimmee, Florida.

He was a life member of the Manchester Masonic Lodge.

Besides his wife Crystle, Arthur is survived by 2 daughters, Mary (Carter) Ray of Tecumseh and June (Keith) Metty of Ypsilanti; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mills Jedele and sisters, Lucille Hill and Caroline Biggs Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery, Manchester.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6- 8 P. M. Friday, March 7, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.
