John Van Horn

ADRIAN

John Van Horn, age 74, of Adrian, died March 6, 2008.

He was born November 5, 1933, in Barking, PA, the son Paul and Ruth (Goodwin) Van Horn. On November 20, 1957, he married Anita Luce in Adrian, MI. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2006.

John was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Chloris as a Gunner's Mate.

He was retired from Bohn Aluminum. John was an avid golfer and Adrian Maples sports fan.

After retirement he worked part time at Wolf Creek Golf Club, Adrian.

John is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Thomas) Stoner of Adrian, and Sherry McCarley of Adrian; 3 grandchildren, Kristina (Rodney) Price, Matthew Stoner, John McCarley; great granddaughter, Kimberly; 2 brothers; Albert, and Wayne; and 4 sisters, Esther, Eilleen, Carol, and, Valerie.

Graveside services will take place 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 12, 2008 at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh, with Rev. Bryan Manary officiating.

Military Honors will be conducted by the Adrian VFW Post 1584 Annis Fint.

Arrangments by J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Stella P. Lesowyk

DETROIT

Stella P. Lesowyk, age 86, of Detroit died March 7, 2008 at Saline Evangelical Home.

At her request cremation has taken place. Burial of cremains will be in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Arrangements by J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Janet E. Miller

Adrian, MI

Janet E. Miller, age 65, of Adrian, passed away March 8, 2008 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Janet was born October 16, 1942 in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of Melvin and Evelyn (Porter) Lahman. Janet was married to Douglas Westgate on June 4, 1962. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1981.

Love found her again on September 19, 1986 when she and Larry Miller began their lives together. He survives.

Janet was a 25 year employee of Key Bank before her retirement in 2002. Janet was a flea market shopper and enjoyed collecting glassware. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her family. Janet will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Besides her husband, Larry, Janet is survived by her son, Chad (Mary Ann) Westgate; daughter, Michelle Nickelson (Tim Burnham); grandchildren, Sarah, Cody, Dylan and Damian; one brother, Arlen (Ceil) Lahman; aunt, Wanda Hamm and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband; two brothers and one grand daughter, Micheala.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P. M. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Rev. Daryl Etheridge officiating. Burial will follow in Palmyra cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 - 8 P. M. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 and 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P M. Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

Michelle S. Detrick

Onsted, MI

Michelle S. Detrick, age 40, of Onsted, passed away unexpectedly March 8, 2008.

Michelle was born November 27, 1967 in Riverview, Michigan.

On January 13, 1998 she married Marc A. Detrick. He survives.

She was a racecar enthusiast and loved to race her car at Milan Dragway. Michelle also loved to work in her garden.

Besides her husband, Marc, Michelle is survived by her children, George, Michael, Haley, Hannah and Marc; sister Nika; several aunts and uncles and her loving cousin, Bethie.

She was preceded in death by her mother.Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating.

Visitation will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday. one hour prior to the service.

Michelle's wishes were that instead of flowers memorial contributions be made to a trust fund for her children.

Cornell J. Etoll, Jr.

Age 52. of Sand Creek, passed away peacefully, March 15, 2008 at home. Cornell was born March 13, 1956 in Bryan, Ohio the son of Cornell and Ruth (Collins) Etoll, Sr.

He was a 1974 Stryker High School graduate.

After graduation, he attended trade school where he earned his degree as a machinist.

Until his illness, he worked many years for Rima Manufacturing.

Surviving Cornell are his eight sisters and four brothers; his mother; his children, Amy, Nick, and Kelly and their mother Michelle Arend. Also surviving are his four grandchildren; Juliet and Evan Stuller, Gabriella Oliphant, Willow Etoll, and his soon to be born grandson.

They were the absolute joy of his life.

He was preceeded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be 5:00 P. M. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with visitation from 2 - 5 P. M. Wednesday before the service.

George Bancroft

Age 80, of Port Orange, FL. formerly of Clinton, passed away March 16, 2008. George was born May 20, 1927 in Tipton, Michigan the son of Leo and Nellie (Tripp) Bancroft. On January 24, 1953 he married Nadine Pratt in Angola, Indiana. She survives. George served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict. He retired from the Tecumseh Products after 42 years of service.

Besides his wife Nadine, George is survived by his children, Georgia (Joseph) Webb of Britton and Edward

(Paula) Bancroft of Manchester; sister, Thelma Bancroft of Toledo, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Jeramy, Tonya, Brenda, and Kevin and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth and a grandson, Carl.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery, Clinton with military honors conducted by the #176 Clinton American Legion Post.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 P. M. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Don L. Yoder

Age 80, of Tecumseh, passed away March 19, 2008. Don was born June 15, 1927 in Pioneer, Ohio the son of Lewis and Pearl (Doner) Yoder.

On August 11, 1951 he married Marsha Sparks in Angola, Indiana. She survives.

Don was a World War II veteran, entering the U. S. Navy on September 28, 1945 and was on active duty for 1 1/2 years.

When the war ended, he stayed in the Reserves for 14 years. Don spent his winters buying raw hides and furs from hunters and trappers across the states. Don was retired from Tecumseh Products after 43 years of employment.

Besides his wife, Marsha, Don is survived by his children, Brenda Faler of Citra, FL, Veda (Tom) Perry of Brooklyn, MI, Melvin Yoder of Ocala, FL and Dan (Cathy) Yoder of Tecumseh; brother Paul (Jean) Yoder of Onsted; sisters, Loretta Kohl of Ohio and Mary Sue (Carroll) Sickmiller of Ohio; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Samantha, and Ben and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Earl and Hal and son in law Terry Faler.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, March 24, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Pastor Ron Sparks officiating.

Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Memorial contributions to the family would be appreciated.

Kimberly Dawn Halliday

Age 34, of Adrian, passed away March 19, 2008 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was born September 20, 1973 in Ypsilanti, MI the daughter of James and Mary (Uhl) Courtright.

On November 17, 1990, she married her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Tom Halliday in Ypsilanti, MI. He survives.

She was a graduate of Washtenaw Community College and was employed as a Registered Nurse and Director of Nursing. Kimberly brought so much joy to all our lives.

She will be truly missed and never forgotten.

In addition to her husband Tom, she is survived by two daughters, Corinne Halliday and Tommi Alyssa Halliday at home; parents, James and Mary Courtright of Tecumseh, and her sister, Melissa (Christopher) Bowman of St. Peters, MO; and a nephew, Christian Bowman. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday March 25, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Rev. Brian Jones officiating.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. .

Dorothy A. Lewis

Age 84, of Manitou Beach, passed away March 19, 2008. She was born November 5, 1923 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Roy and Vita (Rude) VanWinkle.

On September 28, 1946 she married Allan D. Lewis and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1980.

Dorothy is survived by her children William (Dale) Lewis of Woodstock, IL, Janet (Bill) Burger of Palm Harbor, FL, Nancy Lewis of Seattle, WA, Robert (Linda) Lewis of Carmel, IN, and Barton (Theresa) Lewis of Algonquin, IL, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; a sister MaryEllen (Kenneth) Tannar of Webberville, MI, and a sister in law Virginia (Raymond) Dharte of Clinton Twp., MI.

Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday March 22, 2008 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 210 W. Pottawatamie St, Tecumseh, MI with Rev. Chris Cadwallader officiating.

Interment will follow at Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be also on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
