Charles E. Wilson

Age 63, or Adrian, went to be with our Lord in Heaven on, September 6, 2008, at his home in Adrian, MI. Charles was born April 4, 1945, the son of Charles William & Maxine Estella (Leighton) Wilson at the old Emma Bixby Hospital. He went through the Clinton School system, graduating in 1963. During his high school years he was very active in sports including track. basketball and football. He was especially good at football and received numerous "all league honors" as a running back.

Charles served his country in the O.S. Army for 2 years including a year in Vietnam, returning home as a Corporal E 4.

After his military service, he worked for various companies, King Engineering Corp., Allied Supermarkets, Household Products and Industrial Mill Supply. Charles also owned and operated his own car dealership and bought and sold antiques and contracted numerous houses over the years. He did volunteer work for many different agencies and was a great help to many of his friends.

He truly enjoyed life and playing golf with his many friends and loved to watch it on television. It was one of his favorite pastimes. He was a big fan of football and baseball and in his younger years was an avid bowler. The challenge of a good poker game along with other card games was another of his interests. He enjoyed the thrill of going to the casino and an occasional trip to Las Vegas was one of his preferred destinations.

Charles enjoyed life and with his warm smile and friendly nature he made many friends and it would be the rare person that knew him well that wouldn't have a favorite story to tell or a memory about him. He had a special knack with his humor and with that people were drawn to him and made him the popular person he was. He will be missed by many, but not forgotten. He was the type of man that every father would like his son to become. He was a special person indeed. Even through the cancer that deteriorated his body and took his life in the end; his spirit and courage thrived. He was still Charlie.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Wilson, (a pilot who never returned from the South Pacific in WWII), his mother, Maxine E. Wilson and his sister, Ann (Wilson) Black.

Charles wanted to thank everyone for the many cards, letters, food, and visits he received. He wanted to thank everyone for the many cards, letters, food, and visits he received. He wanted to give special recognition to his close friends; Gary Finkbeiner, Titus, Ioana, and Cris Dorobantu, Clyde and Nancy Wellwood, Mark, Carolyn and Lauren Carlton, Bonnie Burnley, Paul and Carol Herter, Grandma Powell and Sandy Ramirez. A special thank you to Pastor Bruce and Lori Jewett for his spiritual guidance and visits and to Lenawee Hospice and Great Lakes Healthcare givers; Deborah Hinson, Cindy Marine, Jenny Covell and Cathy Stevens, to name a few.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 12, 2008, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Rev. Bruce Jewett officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Adrian VFW Post 1584 Annis Fint. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and also on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, MI Memorial contributions in memory of Charles may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Lenawee Humane Society.

Debbie L. Jagielski

Age 49, of Clinton, passed away September 16, 2008.

Debbie was born October 17, 1958 in Racine, Wisconsin the daughter of Ralph and Caroline Haman. On October 24, 1997, she married Joseph Jagielski, Jr. in Belleville, MI. He survives. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving, creative and talented soul blessed with beauty and grace; who could brighten a stormy day with her bright sunshiny face.

She attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh.

Besides her husband Joe, she is survived by her daughter and best friend, Alise Bernard; stepson, Joe III; her mother, Caroline; brothers, David (Debbie), Jeff, Brian (Beth) and Rick (Amy) Haman; sister, Ann Haman; mother and father in law, Joseph and Carol Jagielski, Sr.; sister in law, Julie Gill; brother in law, John (Traci) Jagielski; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special furry friend, Willie.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph and sister in law, Patti Haman.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating.

Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 P. M. Friday, September 19, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with a rosary being held at 8:00 P. M.

Janet Sue Sales

Age 45, of Adrian, passed away, September 16, 2008. She was born March 21, 1963, in Adrian, MI, the daughter of James Stedam & Jeraldine Sales. She was a registered nurse and family caretaker. Janet was a member of Lower Light Church in Adrian.

She is survived by her daughter, Cali Cox, her son, Jason Branam, son in law, Roscoe Heroy, one sister, Jennifer Kelly, two grandchildren, Kenneth Heroy & McKenzie Branam, many aunts and uncles, including caretakers, Babe & Joyce Sales.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM on Monday until the time of service.

Dora Villanueva

Age 77, of Detroit. passed away, September 18, 2008 at the home of her son. Dora was born January 19, 1931 in Edinburg, Texas the daughter of Isadoro and Angelina (Loredo) Cruz. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and devoted wife of Lazaro, who preceded her in death. Dora is survived by her children, Nora (Ray) Stevens, Robert (Mary) Villanueva, Lazaro Villanueva, Jr. and Lori Lee Olson; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and a sister Lupe Farias of Alamo, Texas.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita. According to her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Detroit at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Daniel Shultis

Age 50, of Lansing, MI, formerly of Onsted, passed away, September 17, 2008, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI. He was born February 22, 1958, in Tecumseh, MI. He was a graduate of Onsted High School. Daniel served in the U.S. Army. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the House of Prayer and an avid dog lover.

He is survived by his wife Iwona Shultis, his son, Jonathan Shultis, his parents, Donald (Liz) Shultis, his siblings, Donald (Diane) Shultis, Gerald (Debbie) Shultis, Richard (Karen) Shultis, and Larry (Lani) Shultis and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leona Shultis, his sister, Rosalind Shultis, and nephew, Scott Shultis. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Sunday, September 21, 2008, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will follow in Maple Shade cemetery, Onsted. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J. Gilbert Purse funeral Home, Adrian.

Mary L. McClure

Age 73, of Tecumseh, passed away September 20, 2008. She was born May 27, 1935 in Somerset Center, MI, the daughter of Gerald and Ida Rose. On April 4, 1953 she married Robert C. McClure in Adrian, MI. He survives.

Mary was the secretary at St. Joseph Shrine, Brooklyn, MI for many years.

She enjoyed working on ceramics, a lot of which she gave away as gifts.

Mary loved flowers and tending to her flower garden. In addition to her husband Robert, she is survived by four sons, Ronald, Donald (Phyllis), Ray (Renee), and Brian (Kathleen); 10 grandchildren, Rhonda, Ronald Jr., Justin, Steven, Timothy, Rachel, Maria, Joseph, Daniel, and Meg; three great grandchildren; a sister Eileen (Tom) Mutter; and her faithful dog, Bouncer. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette; son, Arnold, and a brother, Charles "Bud" Rose. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 23, 2008 at St. Joseph Shrine, Brooklyn with Rev. Father Carl Simon officiating. Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church.

Jean V. Cowan

Age 94, of Kalamazoo died, September 20, 2008 at Upjohn Care Center, Kalamazoo. Rite of Committal will take place Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at White Chapel cemetery in Gladstone, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Florence M. Holland

Age 72, of Adrian, passed away September 26, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center. She was born December 16, 1935, in Toledo, OH, the daughter of John & Jeanie (Benson) Sentle. On June 7, 1975, she married Jimmie D. Holland in the Church of Christ in Adrian. He survives. She was retired from Ritchie Dining Hall. Florence was a member of the Church of Christ in Adrian.

In addition to her husband Jimmie, she is survived by five sons; Jerry Lee Sentle, Robert (Kathy) Bryan, Ricky Bryan, Mike (Marie) Bryan and Rich Bryan, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two brothers, Robert Sentle and Leslie Sentle, her sisters; Jackie Creek, Wilma Sentle, Martha Van Veers, and Alice Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Lawrence, and siblings, Bernitta, Richard, Wilbur, Doris, Geneva and Mary.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 1, 2008, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Minister Timothy J. Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Martha L. Cummings

Martha L. Cummings, 64, of Clinton, passed away, September 26, 2008. Cremation has taken place, Arrangements entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

David A. Myers

David A. Myers, 61, of Monroe, passed away, September 26, 2008. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Charles M. Manley

Age 78, of Tecumseh, passed away September 29, 2008 at Herrick Memorial Hospital. Charlie was born at home February 28, 1930 in Tecumseh, the son of Charles J. and Blanche Elizabeth (Maynard) Manley. On August 26, 1948 he married Alice Everlove in Tecumseh and together they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She survives. He was a 1948 graduate of Tecumseh High School. Charles lived his entire life in the Tecumseh area and worked for Tecumseh Products as Manager of Sales Order Administration. He was a member of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Irish Hills Antique Car Club,

Charlie was also a Franklin Township Board Member and served on the Tecumseh City Planning Comission.

Most recently, he worked for the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home. What Charlie loved most was his large family and the joys they brought to Alice and himself.

Besides his wife Alice, Charles is survived by five children, Victoria Manley of Naperville, IL, Kathryn Manley of Kentwood, MI, James (Erva) Manley of Tecumseh, Mary (Bryan) Koebbe of Adrian, and Robert Manley of Tecumseh. They also raised their grandson, Richard Manley. Other survivors are a brother, Robert (Bev) Manley; sister, Marilyn (Willis) Kilbourn; grandchildren, Mary Alice, Chuck, Michael, William, Keith and Renea'; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Fr. John Lohman officiating.

Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Friday, October 3, 2008 and from 12:00 - 2:00 P. M. Saturday before the funeral service.

A Masonic Memorial service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Friday by the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge F&AM #69.

Robert L. Thornton, Sr,

Age 82, recently of Tipton, died September 29, 2008 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility, Adrian. He was born in Hibbing, MN, on June 24, 1926 and lived there until moving to Michgan three years ago. He married Frances Marincel of Mt. Iron, MN on June 19, 1954, who survives him.

He was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus and a life-long member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Hibbing and recently a member of St. Elizabeth's Parish in Tecumseh.

Robert is survived by his children, Robert Jr. (Rosemary) of Ypsilanti, Michael (Vicki) of Portland, Oregon, Jean Kailser (David) of Tipton, Timothy (Dorothea) of Ann Arbor, Thomas of Federal Way, Washington, Mark (Kara) of St. Paul, MN and Brian (Kara) of Monticello, MN. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Visitation will also be on Saturday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass.

Special thanks to Lenawee Medical and Hospice of Lenawee for their care over the last year.

Arrangements are by the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
