Betty Borso

Betty Borso, 81, passed away, March 28, 2009. Graveside Services, 11:00 AM, Thursday at Washtenong Memorial Park.

Frederick William Goodine

Age 66, of Tipton, passed away March 29, 2009. Frederick was born November 27, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan the son of William and Marcia (Foust) Goodine. On April 23, 2005 he married Carol Plum. She survives. He was a college graduate and a U. S. Army mapmaker. After 35 years of service he retired from Daimler Chrysler as a transmission designer. Frederick loved fishing and watching NASCAR racing. At his request cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. family on line at

Oliver J. Craig

Age 80, of Britton, passed away March 29,2009 surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer.

Oliver was born November 6, 1928 in Macon Twp., the son of Harold and Leah (Palmer) Craig. Oliver was a lifelong farmer and also retired from Ford Motor Co. after 30 years of service.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Oliver was a member of the Tecumseh American Legion, Tecumseh VFW, Lenawee County Shriners and the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge #69 F.& A.M.

Some of his enjoyments in life were farming, gardening, raising chickens and peacocks and traveling with Ollie's Group.

Oliver is survived by his sons, James D. (Betty) Craig and Thomas H. (Beverly) Craig; grandchildren, Jamie (Eric) Watson, Josh (Stephanie) Craig, Hayden Craig and Kellen Craig; five great grandchildren with another great grandson due in May; siblings, Janice Porterfield, Isabelle Craig, Virginia Wells, Dorothy Bunek, Catherine (Robert) Jones and Phyllis (Jim Lucas) Perry and a special companion and friend, Phyllis Mull.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale, Charles and Baby Craig and a sister, Geraldine Keran

Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Chaplain Geoff Koglin officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1:00 - 8:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Hospice of Lenawee.

Elizabeth Hepler

Age 88, resident of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away, March 30, 2009, at Whitehall Healthcare. Cremation has taken place. May God rest her soul.

Brian J. Clark

Age 36, of Adrian, MI, passed away March 30, 2009, at home. Cremation has taken place and memorial services were held at the Church of Christ in Tecumseh, MI. May God rest his soul.

Irene C. Stoner

Age 79, of Clinton, passed away March 31, 2009.

She was born May 21, 1929, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of John and Eva (Coon) Mann.

She was married to John C."Bud" Stoner and he preceded her in death in 1990.

Irene was a member of the Red Hat Society of Clinton, Clinton American Legion #176 Auxiliary, and La Femmes 40&8 of Lenawee.

She also belonged to the Order of Eastern Star.

Irene is survived by her children, Deborah C. Stoner of Clinton, Thomas M. (Deborah) Stoner of Adrian and Tina (Ray) A. Coulter of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Kristina (Rodney) Price of Clayton, Matthew Stoner of Ypsilanti, J.D. and Jessica Royer both of Lincoln, NE; great granddaughter, Kimberly Glisson of Clayton, and her brother Thomas Lee (Marilyn) Mann of Gregory, MI.

In addition to her husband "Bud", she was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis, and brother, Arthur P. Mann.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 AM Friday April 3, 2009 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Rev. Bob Riddle officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery, Clinton.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Wilford A. Shepherd

Age 65, of Adrian died Monday, 31 March 2009 at Bixby Hospital.

He was born 9 August 1943, in Britton, MI, to Ray and Verbena Shepherd. He lived in Adrian for the last thirty-seven years under the excellent care of New Horizons and Renaissance Homes. Wilford was like a rock to those who knew him: always there, always kind. He will be grieved by many.

Wilford is survived by: sisters Peggy Sanderson and Mary Hurley; brothers Max Shepherd and Daniel Shepherd; nieces: Lynn, Kristen, Donna, and Julia; nephews: Brian, Adam, and Jeff; and several grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Wilford will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday 19 April 2009 at the Purse Funeral Home with Dr. Daniel Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgeway cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday 18 April 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Purse Funeral Home.

George Edward Budwit

Age 68, of Tecumseh, passed away, April 1, 2009, at 3:00 AM at home surrounded by his family. He was born, September 27, 1940, at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, MI, the daughter of Benjamin & Bertha (DeJager) Budwit. On August 31, 1963, he married Sue Ann Dorman in Pontiac, MI, she survives.

George attended St. Michael's School in Pontiac and served as an alter boy at St. Michael's Parish. George worked at Orchard Lake Country Club & Tam O'Shanter Country Club while attending college at the University of Michigan. He was retired from General Motors Corporation and served as a seventh level designer for 35 years. While at GM, George accepted the daunting task of organizing their golf league and managing tee times and golf scores. He also earned a reputation as a 200 average bowler and team anchor. George raised Morgan horses and loved to show them with his daughter and granddaughter. He served 15 years as a Morgan Gold Cup Director. Morgan enthusiasts remember him driving his prized stallion Cromwell Symphony to many blue ribbon wins. George also built two show barns, one for himself and one for his daughter. His other pastimes included gourmet dining, backyard grilling and traveling domestic and international.

In addition to his wife Sue Ann, he is survived by his daughter, Deborah Ann Flint and her husband Clell and their two children, Katherine and Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Nancy

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 4, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh, with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler as Presider. Rite of Committal will follow in Brookside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian and also on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church.

Vincent Howland

Age 79, resident of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away, April 2, 2009, at Whitehall Healthcare. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Joshua A. Zimmerman, age 32, passed away, April 2, 2009. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Guy M. Cox

Cherished husband, dedicated father, and doting grandpa passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2009 at Bixby Medical Center, Adrian. Guy was born on February 6, 1927 in North Adams, Michigan to parents, Charles Roscoe Cox and Hazel Beth Ann Reynolds Cox. He and his four brothers attended and graduated from Addison Community Schools.

Guy entered the United States Navy in 1944 to serve aboard an LSM 41. He was a Seaman 1st Class during World War II and participated in several campaigns in the Philippines and South Pacific. He was the ship Chaplain and Store Keeper. At the end of the War, he decommissioned his ship in Charleston, South Carolina. Guy has continued to stay in touch with his Navy buddies at various navel reunions. He has enjoyed sharing his sea stories with friends and family. Throughout the years he has stayed in touch with, best friend and shipmate, Harry Bryson of Columbus, Ohio.

Upon his return to the states, Guy entered Adrian College to study in the pre-law program. He also became interested in a young woman, Juanita Mae Luce. Guy and Juanita were married on December 11, 1954 at the Tipton Community Congregational Church, Tipton, Michigan. Their marriage of over 50 years and has been filled with square dancing, a neighborhood euchre club, church bowling leagues, and watching western movies.

Guy was employed by the Tecumseh Products for 42 years. During his tenure there he was an active member of the Tecumseh Products Workers Union. He served as the secretary or president for almost 20 years. He fought for the rights of the workers and made many friends along the way.

Guy has always been an active community member. He has been a Boy Scout Leader, Tipton Community Congregational Church member and a member of the Moose and American Legion. His latest project was the Lenawee County Landlords Association where he served as treasurer.

Guy expressed his adventurous spirit by flying his Piper J4E and riding his Indian motor cycle. He enjoyed giving rides to family. Guy loved family outings such as canoeing the Ausable River, sightseeing in the Colorado Mountains, and trips to Florida and Canada were high points for him.

Guy is survived by son, Guy (Kris) Corwin Cox of Tecumseh, daughters, Connie (James) Morse of Tecumseh, Cathy (Mikkel) Gammeltoft of Tipton and Cynthia (Scott) Upton, of Spring, Texas. Brothers, Burtus E. Cox and Charles Cox of North Adams, Michigan. He has 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Robert and Timothy and brothers, Robert and Laverne.

A celebration of Guy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh with Reverend Keith Porter and Pastor John Deuble officiating. Internment will be in Franklin Township cemetery, Tipton, Michigan. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.

Darrell Estey

Darrell Estey, age 33, of Warren, MI, passed away, April 4, 2009. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Gregory Watson, resident of Tecumseh, MI, passed away suddenly, April 7, 2009, at home. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Louis Rich, Sr.

Florence M. Zastrow

Florence M. Zastrow, age 93, resident of Brighton, MI, passed away, April 10, 2009, at Kracht AFC Home. Cremation has taken place. May God rest her soul.

Gary J. Vowell

Age 47, passed away, April 10, 2009. He is survived by his wife Michelle, his daughter Amanda, granddaughter Hope, three sisters, Mary Jane, Patricia, Wanda, and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence "Larry" Stoler, age 55, resident of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away, April 11, 2009, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, Kalamazoo Twp., MI. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Roger Stull

Roger Stull, age 73, resident of Jackson, MI, passed away, April 12, 2009, at Care Link of Jackson. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Ralph E. Mutter

Ralph E. Mutter, age 99, of Reston, VA, formerly of Southfield, MI, passed away, April 12, 2009. Cremation has taken place. May God rest his soul.

Nancy Ellen DeClercq

Nancy Ellen DeClercq, age 73, of Tavares, FL, died April 12, 2009.

She was born December 23, 1935, in Cambria Twp., MI, the daughter of Lester and Lilly (Mader) Porter. On June 15, 1957, she married Gerald DeClercq and he survives. She will be forever remembered for her compassion of others and her deep love for family, especially her grandchildren.

A lifelong resident of Michigan and a Tecumseh High School graduate, she moved to Florida nearly 13 years ago.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by three children, Lori Sietling of Sierra Vista, AZ, Michael DeClerq of Gallup, NM, and Julie DeClercq of Clearwater, FL,; five grandchildren and a sister, Jean Rockey of Jackson.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday April 18, 2009 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family or Leukemia Society.
