Donna L. Covell

Age 85, of Adrian, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away June 27, 2008. Donna was born June 25, 1923 in Waldron, MI the daughter of Claude and Ida (Lett) Marvin. On August 7, 1945 she married Gerald Covell in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1984. She enjoyed teaching children how to read working throughout the Adrian elementary school system. Donna was involved in all her grandchildren's activities, programs and sports. She was employed as the head cook at the Stephenson Home for over 30 years. Donna was a member of the Adrian Church of the Nazarene where she worked with the Sunday School teachers teaching the children.

Donna is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Davis of Adrian and Judy (Thomas) Creger of Tipton; sons, Jack (Bette) Covell of Onsted and Gerald (Kathy) Covell of Birdsall; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Jennie Ward and Maureen (Norris) Nickelson, both of Adrian; brother, James (Wilma) Marvin of Adrian and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Gerald, Donna was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter; grandson, and great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastors David Fulks and Michael Dunson officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be 6 - 8 P. M. Monday, June 30, 2008 and 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

James Allen

James Allen, 45, of Madison Heights, MI, passed away, June 28, 2008. Cremation has taken place.

George Hollis, Sr.

Age 83, of Tecumseh, died June 30, 2008 at home.

He was born Jaunary 4, 1925, in Detroit, MI, the son of Stephen and Mary (Angel) Hollis. He was married to Althea Swayze and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2008.

George was owner of Hollis Chevrolet, Romulus. MI in 1958, and continued selling cars his entire life.

George is survived by three sons, George Jr. (Karen) of Glendale, AZ, Gerald (Norma) of Hamburg, MI, and Gary (Kathy) of Brooklyn, MI, 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Althea; and grandson Tony.

A Celebration of George's Life will take place 2:00 p.m. July 12, 2008 at Brooklyn Eagles, 9500 Wamplers Lake Rd. (M-124) Brooklyn, MI.

At George's request food and refreshments will be served in his honor.

Frank Hamann

Age 63 of Raisin Township, passed away unexpectedly July 3, 2008. Frank was born November 20, 1944 in Tecumseh, MI, the son of Alvin and Dorothy (Amstutz) Hamann.

Frank was a graduate of Britton High School and Stautzenberger College, Toledo, OH. Frank was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene.

He was a retiree of Tecumseh Products Company.

Frank is survived by his sister Carol (Bob) Dunning of Toledo, OH; a niece, Amy (Glenn) Meiring of Toledo, OH; two nephews, Frank (Kathryn) Dunning, Holland, OH, and J.D. Pizzato of Farmington Hills, MI; and 6 great nieces and nephews, Maria, Benjamin, and Matthew Meiring, Rebecca, Robert, and Jack Dunning.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Dale.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 9, 2008 at Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Ray Hansen officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeway cemetery with military honors provided by Britton American Legion Post #155.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene.

Katherine Wing

Katherine Wing, 88, of Garden City, MI, passed away July 5, 2008, at Garden City Hospital. Cremation has taken place.

John Day

Age 72, of Tecumseh, passed away July 6, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor. He was born July 12, 1935 in London, England. On July 14, 1955 he was married to June L. Robertson. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2003.

John was a resident of Tecumseh since 1960.

He is survived three sons, Scott (Suzanna) Day, Tim (Buffy) Day, both of the Tecumseh area, and Jeff (Kim) Day of Powell, OH; four grandchildren, Kurtis, Stephanie, Charlie, and Shelby; great grandson, Cameron; brother, Mike (Linda) Fatt of Battle Creek; two sisters, Maureen (Gerald) Henze of Saginaw, and Linda Fatt of Oregon; and special friend, Sharon Heisler of Tecumseh.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday July 9, 2008 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Dr. Ken Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh, MI.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday (today) at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, MI

William Hall, 73, of Roseville, MI, passed away, July 6, 2008, at St. John Macomb Hospital, Warren. Cremation has taken place.

Robert L. Arnold, 78, of St. Clair Shores, MI, passed away, July 7, 2008, at Mt. Clemens General Hospital. Cremation has taken place.

Edwin R. Barthel III

Edwin R. Barthel III, 63, of Cadillac, MI, passed away, July 7, 2008. He was born August 4, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Edwin Jr., & Edith (Eubanks) Barthel. Cremation has taken place.

Duane Northam

Graveside Services and burial have taken place in Ft. Custer National cemetery.

Howard J. Emmons

Howard J. Emmons, 78, of Adrian, MI, formerly of Cadilliac, MI & Lansing, MI, passed away, July 9, 2008. He was born August 4, 1930, in Cadillac, MI. Cremation has taken place and burial of cremains will be in Lansing, MI.

Ethel W. Miller

Age 85, of Sterling Heights, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away July 9, 2008. Ethel was born June 11, 1923 in Tyrone, Pennsylvania the daughter of Harry and Mary (Edmiston) Fagan. On October 7, 1939 she married James F. Miller in Petersburg, PA and they celebrated 68 years of marriage. She was a member of the Tecumseh Monday Club and the Tecumseh United Methodist Church where she was active in their Women's Group. She was active in her children's lives being a Cub Scout den mother and president and member of the Lillibridge Elementary School in Detroit for 14 years. Ethel is currently a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Roseville. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.

Besides her husband, James, Ethel is survived by 2 sons, James (Christine) Miller of Utica and Kenneth (Marissa) Miller of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Dorothy (Garvin) Gentry of Sterling Heights; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Ollie. She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. July 12, 2008 at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church with Rev. David McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Friday, July 11, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. .

Margaret Rowe

Margaret Rowe, 99, of Jackson, MI, passed away, July 9, 2008. Cremation has taken place. Graveside Services at Woodlan cemetery will be announced at a later date.

Reginald King

Reginald King, 66, of Kalamazoo, died July 9, 2008, at home. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Esther M. O'Flynn

Esther M. O'Flynn, 93, of Raisin Township, passed away, July 11, 2008, at home. Funeral Services will be held at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, MI.

Burdette Maynard Derbyshire

Age 92, of Adrian, passed away, July 12, 2008, at Lynwood Manor. He was born March 17, 1916, in Adrian, MI, the son of Burdette & Hazel (Maynard) Derbyshire. On July 11, 1942, he married Beulah Mae Logan in Onsted, MI. After 60 years of marriage, she passed away in 2003. He started milking cows at 7 years old and quit school in the 9th grade to help his dad on the farm, He farmed for 8 years, and then worked at Michigan Producers Dairy in Adrian, retiring after 24 years, and then helped his brother with carpentry jobs. Maynard as he liked to be called, raised a garden for many years. He enjoyed his family very much and liked traveling and eating out. He attended Raisin Center Friends Church with his wife and was baptized in 2003 by Pastor Gordon of Sand Creek. He resided in Riverview Terrace apartments for 16 years.

Maynard is survived by his four children; Rodney (Denise) Derbyshire of Canton, OH, Janice Jones of Adrian, Sharon (Ron) Gramling of Adrian, and Keith (Gail) Derbyshire of Adrian, nine grandchildren; Paul (Debbie) Derbyshire, Ted Derbyshire, Leah (Mark) Sterling all of Canton, OH, Kim (Tony) Valdes, Frank Jones and Jeremy Jones all of Adrian; twins Adam Gramling of Chicago and Amy Gramling of Hillsdale and Marli Derbyshire of Chicago, eight great grandchildren; Miranda Derbyshire, Kiara Derbyshire, Arianna Longaberger, Cole Sterling, Savannah Sterling, Carson Sterling, Mariah Valdes and Natasha Jones; two sisters, Joyce Sayler of Tecumseh, and Olive Brant of Adrian.

He was preceded in death by wife, parents, one sister, Lucille Derbyshire, and two brothers; Howard & Earl Derbyshire both of whom worked at Michigan Producers Dairy with Maynard.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Brad Heiple officiating. Interment will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM & 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Betty Dittis

Betty Dittis, 61, of Parma, died, July 12, 2008, at home. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Orville Weasel

Age 92, of Deerfield, passed away at home July 12, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Orville was born July 16, 1915 in Deerfield, Mi the son of John and Alvina (Schurg) Weasel.

On May 25, 1935 he married Marion Prentiss and they celebrated 67 years of marriage before her death on March 17, 2002.

Orville was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield his entire life. He loved his family, enjoyed his friends and especially his pet dog, Sassy Girl.

Orville loved to travel and had a home in Florida where he enjoyed his winters.

He was a farmer all his life, loved fishing, playing cards and attending garage sales.

Orville is survived by his 2 daughters, Shirley (Kenneth) Piotter and Donna (Richard) Reilly; his caregivers Peter Busano and his grandson, Robb Weasel; 2 sisters, Wanda Crane and Imo Oliver; 2 brothers, Raymond (Carolyn) Weasel and Kenneth (Beverly) Weasel; 9 grandchildren, Phyllis (Jeff) Petee, Mark (Melody) Reilly, Darren Weasel, Jim (Kathleen) Weasel, Lori (John) Flick, Jeff (Christine) Piotter, Paula (Eric) Martis and Christopher Piotter; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Besides his wife, Marion, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Homer Weasel, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. A Memorial Mass will take place 7:00 P. M. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Deerfield with Fr. Jack Loughran officiating.

A reception in honor of Orville will take place following the mass.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the family of Orville Weasel, 8878 Laberdee Road, Deerfield, MI 49238.

Arrangements are by the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
