Jerrie P. England

Jerrie P. England, 82, of Flora, Ill., died March 27, 2002 at Clay County Hospital in Flora. She was born Sept. 22, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, Ill. to Henry and Mary (White) Pigg. She married Gene England in Biloxi, Miss. She had retired from Belltronics and was a member of First Church of God in Flora.
Surviving are her husband, Gene; sons Larry (Billie) England of Flora and Terry (Donna) England of Kalkaska; eight grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
Services were held on March 30 at First Church of God in Flora with Pastor Richard Artis officiating. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery, Flora.
Arrangements were made by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Stella J. Peterson

Stella J. Peterson, 88, of Mt. Clemens, passed away March 12, 2002 at Mt. Clemens General. She was born September 1, 1913 in Harrisburg, Penn., the daughter of Andrew and Josephine Kochan.
Stella married Neils C. Peterson on June 16, 1939 in Detroit. Stella and Neils moved from Detroit to Rapid City in 1969.
Stella was predeceased by her husband Neils on January 5, 1998 and greatgrandson Andrew Neils Cisneros on August 2, 1997.
Stella is survived by her loving family, including her daughters, Christine A. (David) Berg of Traverse City; Catherine M. (James) Schultz of Clinton Twp.; and Stella J. (Paul) Grose of Rapid City; nine grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
Stella was cremated and interment was at Clearwater Township cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Lizzie Ethel (Barnes) Henry

Lizzie Ethel (Barnes) Henry, age 94, of East Jordan, left her earthly home for her heavenly home on March 26, 2002. She joined her husband and other loved ones on her 75th wedding anniversary.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held April 5 at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Missionary Church, Rogers Road, East Jordan.
Lizzie was born Aug. 23, 1907 in Echo Township, Antrim County to Ernest and Leonia Barnes and resided in Pleasant Valley until her teen years when the family moved to Detroit. It was there she met then married Raymond S. Henry on March 26, 1927.
Together they raised six children in Flint and East Jordan. In the late 1960s, they relocated to Frankfort, Ky., then returned to the Flint area in 1976. After Raymond's death in 1985, she lived in Flint until 1993 when she returned to East Jordan.
Lizzie became a member of God's Family and the WCTU in 1934. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a Lay Minister in Kentucky's Weslyan Church. She was an assistant director of the Nelson Street Mission in Flint from 1943 until 1965. She loved the outdoors and hunted and fished her entire life.
Lizzie leaves to cherish her memory: daughters Doris (William) McCallum, Virginia (John) Daniels and Cecelia Henry; sons, Edward (Beverly) Henry and Charles (Rita) Henry; sisters, Ledah Bennett and Ernestine Wright; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; her families at Lighthouse Missionary Church and New Life Weslyan Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Raymond Henry, Jr.; daughter, Theda Mae; grandchildren, Dorothy Elizabeth and Edward A. Henry, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the family in care of Virginia Daniels, 5840 Sheridan Rd., Vassar, Mi., 48768.

Anna Marie Gipperich

Anna Marie Gipperich, 87, of East Jordan and formerly of Detroit died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. The Rev. Eugene L. Baughn will officiate, interment will be at the Southern cemetery in Central Lake.
Anna was born on April 27, 1914 in Central Lake, the daughter of Frank L. and Louama (Foote) Bingham. On July 3, 1933 in Ohio, she married William M. Gipperich. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1985.
Anna and William spent their summers in East Jordan from 1966 until she moved from Detroit in 1986.
Anna was a cosmetologist and was self-employed. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Jordan.
She is survived by one son, William F. Gipperich of Indiana; and three grandchildren, Deborah L. (Keith) Heaton of South Korea, William R. Gipperich of Illinois and Kristina Gipperich of Boyne City; a great- grandson, Cory Heaton of South Korea; a special niece, Laura Lea (Don) Laisure of Kinglsey; a special great- nephew, Darus Laisure; and twin great-nieces, Daria and Rose Laisure.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Memorials may be given to the Evangelical Church in East Jordan or the charity of donor's choice.

Charles Donald McNair

Charles Donald McNair, 79, of East Jordan died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.
The family will receive friends on Friday from noon until the service begins. The family was serviced by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.

Marguerite L. Knight

Marguerite L. Knight, 99, passed away July 18, 2002. She was born July 19, 1902. Marguerite and her family have spent summers at their Clam Lake cottage for more than 50 years. Survivors include sons Robert W., Douglas E., and David N.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Robert L. Knight, and daughter Marion Manker.
Funeral services were July 22, 2002, at Fred Wood Funeral Home.

Lillian Pearl VanLooy

Lillian Pearl VanLooy, 90, of Northport, formerly of Bellaire, died early Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Leelanau Memorial Long Term Care Center.
She was born in Detroit Aug. 27, 1911, the daughter of James Harold and Pearl Lillian (Perrin) McCadie.
On March 24, 1934, in Ypsilanti, she married Henry Albert VanLooy, who died in 1986. Lillian assisted in Henry's dental practice and was active in many civic and charitable organizations. She was a member of Northwestern Baptist Church, and for many years was active in the PEO sisterhood.
Lillian and her husband lived in the Detroit area for 39 years before retiring to Bellaire in 1971. Lillian moved briefly to North Dakota in 1990, returning to Bellaire in 1992 just prior to her move to Leelanau County.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and brother James McCadie.
Surviving are sons Henry Albert Jr. (Margie) of Bellaire and James William (Nancy) of Grand Forks, N.D.; daughter Barbara Susan (Larry) Graves of Suttons Bay; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.
Private family services were held Wednesday, July 24, 2002, with the Rev. Jim Beadle officiating. Interment was in Lakeview cemetery, Bellaire.
Arrangements were handled by the Bellaire chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Richard VanBeelen

Richard Nicholas VanBeelen, 72, of Ludington, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 30, 2002.
Richard was born April 15, 1930, in Carson City, to Andrew W. and Margaret (Jackson) VanBeelen. He married Alice Louise Hathaway in 1952 at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Auburn, Ind.
He is survived by daughters Nicki (Oren) Gillette, Deborah (Dan) Miessner of Malaysia, Laurie (Gene) Russell of Ludington, Cindy (Anthony) Campbell of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Kathy (Irv) Irwin of Haltom City, Texas, and Julie (Tom) English of Traverse City; son Donald (Liese) VanBeelen of Traverse City; sister Catherine Cotter; and brother Robert VanBeelen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Alice; son Joel VanBeelen; and four siblings.
Graveside services were held July, 21 2002 at Fairview cemetery in Mancelona.

Joseph D. Bailey Sr.

Joseph D. Bailey Sr., 88, of Bellaire, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
On April 26, 1914, in Ada, Ohio, he was born the son of Merlyn and Ethel (Johnson) Bailey.
He moved to Bellaire in 1994 and previously summered on Lake Bellaire for many years. He owned and operated the J.D. Bailey Company before retiring. He had also lived in Ellenton, Fla., and Livonia.
Surviving are daughter Gail (Douglas) Hoffmeyer of Sterling Heights; five grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie in 1987.
No services are planned.
