Lloyd Way
Lloyd R. Way, 86, died July 15, 2003, at his home in Bloomfield Hills.
He was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Memphis, Tenn.
Mr. Way had lived in Bloomfield Hills for the past six years and was a former resident of Algonac, Livonia and Kalkaska. He retired in 1979 as plant superintendent for Lear Corp. after 44 years. He was a private pilot, flying his seaplane out of the Detroit Seaplane Base, was an active Mason with Marine City Lodge F&AM, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his son, Kenneth L. (Marilyn) Way; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Holman, Julie (Steve) Rupp and David Way; great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate, James, Paul and Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel E., in 2001.
Funeral services were held July 18 at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, Troy. Interment was at White Chapel cemetery, Troy.
Memorials may be given to Brown Adult Day Care Center, 6720 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield, Mich. 48322.

Lyle L. Paradise
Lyle L. Paradise, 100, of Elk Rapids died Monday September 15, 2003 at Munson Medical Center. Lyle was born on May 25, 1903, the son of Jack and Leafy (Moore) Paradise.
Lyle and his wife Wilma owned and operated Paradise Pines in Elk Rapids from 1940 until 1990.
Lyle is survived by many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma on June 24, 1999; and by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
A private graveside service was held at Maple Grove cemetery in Elk Rapids. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Northwood Village Care Home in Elk Rapids.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

Ricky Chalfant Jr.
Ricky Chalfant Jr., 22, of Fife Lake, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
He was born in Traverse City on July 11, 1981, to Ricky and Tamara (Clark) Chalfant.
Ricky grew up in South Boardman and had been a resident of the area for most of his life. He was employed in construction. He loved basketball, children and animals, and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton.
Ricky is survived by a daughter, Sydney, and her mother, Shannon Thomas, both of Wayne; father, Ricky Sr. (Brenda Giraud and her children) of Cedar; mother, Tamara Chalfant of Fife Lake; brothers, Daniel of Fife Lake and Jeremiah of Cedar; sister, Katrina Chalfant (Kenneth Kelley) of South Boardman; grandparents, Philo (Joan) Clark of Kalkaska, Barbara Hominga of Traverse City and Jerry Chalfant of Brownsboro, Texas; nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 19, at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Kalkaska, with Pastor Jack Hoffman officiating. Burial was at the Oliver Township cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton.

Cynthia Markley
Cynthia Shirley Markley, 83, of Fife Lake, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1920, the daughter of Frank A. and Margaret M. (Hall) Markley in Greenwood Township.
Cynthia was a resident of Garfield Township since 2002, having previously lived in Kalkaska, San Antonio, Texas, and Maryland. She proudly served her country as a WAC during World War II.
Cynthia enjoyed playing golf, going to the casino, playing cribbage, reading, playing the organ and all kinds of music.
Cynthia is survived by her sister, Dewie A. Ladensack of Fife Lake and brother, Robert H. (Gloria) Markley of Whitehall; five nieces and three nephews; several great-and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Charles Ladensack; and one nephew.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Michael Powenski Jr.
Michael Powenski Jr., 78, of Sesser, Ill. and Kalkaska, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Franklin Hospital.
Michael was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Benton, Ill., to Michael and Helen (Shibovich) Powenski Sr. He married Helen Rozenski in September 1950, who survives.
Michael was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska, the National Rifle Association, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and member of the American Legion in Kalkaska.
He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and reading.
Beside his wife, he is survived by sons, Larry (Kathleen) Powenski of Slaughter, La., and David (Sheryl) Powenski; grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah and Andrew of Walnut Hill, Ill.; brothers, John and Stanley of Chicago, Louis of Herrin and Marion of Benton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Leo; and sisters, Rose and Ann.
Funeral services will be held today (Sept. 24), at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with Father Steven Poole officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill, Sesser.

Shirley Teesdale
Shirley G. Teesdale, 62, loving wife and mother, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at her home in Kalkaska.
Shirley was born April 4, 1941, the daughter of Gordon E. and Ida M. (Van) Crandall. On Dec. 7, 1963, she married Jack Teesdale in Howard City.
Shirley was a resident of Kalkaska all of her life. She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church of Kalkaska for 22 years.
Shirley enjoyed collecting antique dolls and collectibles, loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she also enjoyed garage sales, camping and the great outdoors.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Jack, of 39 years; children, Susan (Andrew) Sacheck of Grand Rapids, Ronald (Tanya Watson) Pickard of Kalkaska, and Deborah (Rusty) Hahnenberg-Stephenson of Kalkaska; mother, Ida M. Crandall; sister, Rena Hall of Kalkaska; brothers, Kenneth Crandall and Robert Crandall, both of Kalkaska, and William (Beverly) Crandall of Rockford; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon E. Crandall.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service was conducted Thursday, Sept. 18, at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Kalkaska, with the Rev. Scott A. Rhoades officiating. Interment followed in the Clearwater Township cemetery in Rapid City.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Ilene Woodman
Ilene P. Woodman, 82, of South Boardman, passed away on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Ilene was born March 19, 1921, in Cornwell, England, the daughter of William and Emily (Stansbridge) James. In May of 1944, she married Merwyn Woodman in Detroit.
The couple lived in Dearborn Heights before moving to South Boardman in 1976. Ilene was a member of the American Legion, the Senior Citizens, the historical society, and the United Methodist Church, all in South Boardman.
Ilene is survived by her children, Merlene S. (George) Ramsey of Melvindale and David W. (Sue) Woodman of Dearborn Heights; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Delphine Themean of Royal Oak, Kathlene Peterson of Dearborn; and brother, William (Gail) James of Melvindale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merwyn.
Visitation was Sept. 18 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
A funeral service was conducted on Sept. 19 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Stark officiating. Interment followed at the Boardman Township cemetery.
Memorial contributions in behalf of Ilene may be directed to the Humane Society of Kalkaska or to the South Boardman United Methodist Church.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Helen Louise Tolfree
Helen Louise Tolfree, 91, of Kalkaska, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. The Rev. James L. Jordan of the Lighthouse Missionary Church in East Jordan officiated.
Interment was held in Sunset Hill cemetery in East Jordan.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1911 to George and Jennie (Persons) Chaddock on the family farm in South Arm Township near East Jordan.
On July 3, 1945 in Charlevoix, she married Fred Tolfree. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Helen had moved to Pontiac in 1940. In 1958, she built a cabin in Kalkaska for hunting. She later moved there permanently.
Since 1967, Helen had wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Helen was a homemaker most of her life.
She enjoyed housekeeping and cooking. She was known by her family for making great puddings and roasts. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards, puzzles and traveling. Most of all she loved her family especially the little children.
She had been a member of the Peninsula Grange.
She is survived by nephews and nieces, Jennie (Jack) Valencourt of Grand Rapids, Albert (Dee) Chanda of East Jordan, Lawrence (Eleanor) Chanda of East Jordan, Marge (Kenneth) Timmer of Muskegon, Jerome (Joy) Chanda of Mackinaw City, Richard (Brenda) Chanda of East Jordan and Linda (Steve) Poole of East Jordan; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Harriett Chanda.
Memorials may be given to Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan or donor's choice.

Janice Kaye Lundy
Janice Kaye Lundy, 24, of East Jordan died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Lighthouse Missionary Church in East Jordan. The Rev. James L. Jordan officiated.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1978 in Charlevoix, the daughter of Archie and Judy (Smith) Lundy, and graduated from Boyne City High School in 1997. She had worked for Charlevoix Manufacturing for less than a month, and prior to that had worked as a manager for McDonalds Restaurant in Charlevoix. She enjoyed writing poetry and collecting porcelain dolls, as well as angel, dolphin and "Precious Moments" figurines.
Janice is survived by her parents, Judy (Tony) Greenman of Boyne City and Archie (Debra) Lundy of East Jordan; her grandparents, Maxine Smith of Boyne City, Theda Lundy of East Jordan, Rosann (Robert Messenger) Van Liew of Sycamore, Ohio and Maxine Greenman of Zephyrhills, Fla.; great grandparents, Elma Boone of Boyne City and Margaret McLavy of Zephyrhills, Fla.; twin sister, Carmen (Gordon) Lundy-Greenman of East Jordan; brothers, Archie Lundy, Jr. of East Jordan and Craig (Amber) Lundy of East Jordan; step brothers, Mike Greenman of Boyne City and Billy (Tasha) Pardee of Gillette, Wyoming; step sisters, Carey (Aaron) Greenman-Mathers of Boyne City, Anne (fiancee James "Tiger" Phillips) Pardee of East Jordan and Pamela Beaudry of Pinconning; three nephews; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Richard Lundy and Jack Smith; and stepbrother, Joel Pardee. Memorials may be given to the Lion's Club programs for the blind. The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.

Robert Wayne Wildfong Jr.
Robert Wayne Wildfong Jr., 54, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Mancelona, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
He was born Dec. 6, 1948, in Petoskey, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Alexander) Wildfong.
He married Sandra (Wisler) Wildfong on Dec. 23, 1967, at United Methodist Church in Mancelona.
He graduated from Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, in 1970, with a bachelor's degree in education. He earned his master's degree from the same college in administration. He was a high school teacher and instructor of industrial arts. He also was involved in coaching. He coached football for many years and was selected Coach of the Year in 1983. He also coached basketball and track.
Robert's career as a teacher was devoted to the Central Lake Public School System in Central Lake, which began in 1971, and ended in 1997. His teaching goal was to make students believe in themselves and help them become the best possible people they could be. He treated them with respect and gave them room to grow and become a successful part of society. Robert was encouraging, inspiring, comforting, understanding, and concerned with all of his students. He enjoyed giving out nicknames to many of his students and was an accomplished teaser.
Robert's interests were hunting, fishing and other sports. He enjoyed the fishing trips he took to Canada with his family. He was a great fan of football.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 36 years; two sons, John and Karen (Swain) Wildfong and brand new granddaughter, Kasandra June of Mancelona; and Brian and Tonya (Broad) Wildfong of Traverse City. Also surviving are his parents, Robert and Dorothy Wildfong Sr.; two sisters, Coleen (Wildfong) and Eric Sander and their children, Andy and Honey Sander and Eric and Melissa Sander, and Diane Wildfong and her children, Leigh Ann, Derek and Andre; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation continued at the funeral home on Sept. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 16, at the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery, Mancelona.
