Orlo J. Wildfong
Orlo J. Wildfong, 87, of Avon Park, Fla. died Saturday Aug. 30, 2003 at Sebring Hospital in Florida.
Orlo was born Dec. 22, 1915 in Alba, the son of Samuel and Alma (Pahl) Wildfong.
He married Ruth Moore on Nov. 29, 1934. Orlo owned Wildfong's Garage for 20 years and worked 10 years for the Antrim County Road Commission. He loved flying, fishing and hunting,
Surviving is his son Orlo Jr. (Dorothy); daughters Betty (Carl) Burr, Carole (Tim) Dillehay and Donna (Richard) Baszler; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Orlo is also survived by one sister Dorothy Koontz, of Sterling Hts.; brothers Harold and Robert of Mancelona, and Joseph of Venice Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; brother Walter and sisters, Margaret, Juanita and Edith.
Memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at the Church of Christ in Mancelona. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Mancelona.

Betty M. James
Betty M. James, 86, of Ellsworth, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at MeadowBrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. She was born March 21, 1917 in Michigan City, Ind., the daughter of William and Myra (Anthony) Ballard.
On Dec. 22, 1935, she married John James in Alba. They made their home in Central Lake. In 1945, they moved to Ellsworth. Mr. James died in 1989.
Mrs. James was a member of the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed baking, embroidery, reading; and she especially loved her grandchildren and having family get-togethers.
Surviving are her children, Betty (Joe) Martinchek of Charlevoix, Harriet Hilden of Ellsworth, Myra (Tim) Hoffman, and Marilyn (Jack) Brown of East Jordan, William (Mary) James of Ellsworth; a son-in-law, Tony Kubetz of Kewaunee, Wisc.; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Marjorie Marie and Mary Ann; a son, Charles in 1969; a daughter, Margaret Kubetz in 2001; and a grandson, Scott Hilden in 1979.
Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church, the Rev. Chris Wallace officiated. Burial took place in Southern cemetery, Central Lake.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church or to Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility for the End of Life Room.

Joyce Marie Steiner Fangboner
Joyce Marie Steiner Fangboner, 67, of Elk Rapids died at home Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 after a four-year battle with inflammatory breast cancer.
She was born July 15, 1936 in Lansing, the daughter of Benjamin and Donna Valleau) Steiner. On Dec. 22, 1962 she married Gary Fangboner in Lake Orion.
Joyce was a graduate of Lake Orion High School and Eastern Michigan University, where she received a bachelor's degree in teaching the hearing impaired. She later received a master's degree in language development from Oakland University.
She taught for 36 years _ working in Pontiac, Rochester, Lake Orion and Royal Oak _ before retiring in 1994.
Joyce is survived by her husband Gary of Elk Rapids; son Christopher (Amy) Fangboner of Livonia; a daughter Susan (Michael) Smith of Livonia and three grandchildren, Hayley, and Max Fangboner and Aidan Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jacqueline Wotton.
The family would especially like to thank the angels from Munson Hospice and the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. Their love and care has been a blessing to us all.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Daniel Herlein presiding.
Memorial contributions may be directed in her honor to the Great Lakes Children's Museum in Traverse City, or First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

Betty L. (Strouse) LaPointe
Betty L. (Strouse) LaPointe, 73, of Elk Rapids died Friday Jan. 23, 2004 with her family at her side. She was born Nov. 26, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of Margaret (Martz) and Wayne McQueary. She had lived in Temperance prior to moving to Elk Rapids.
Throughout her life, Betty spent many hours as a volunteer. Some of those efforts included the Lewis Avenue Baptist Church Day Care in Temperance, the Elk Rapids Head-Start and the Elk Rapids foster grandparents program.
She enjoyed music and dance, and was known affectionately to many of her friends as "Bubbling Betty." At her housing complex, she drove residents to various appointments and functions. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren _ passing on her great sense of humor to them.
Surviving Betty are her four children, Debra (Mark) Ramsey of Fayetteville, Ga., Roger Strouse of Chicago, Ill., Thomas (Darlene) Strouse of Sylvania, Ohio, and Bradley (Linda) Strouse of Temperance; 12 grandchildren, Nathan, Andrea, Alyson, Raymond, Brian, Sarah, Russell, Kelly, Jennifer, Amanda, Jeanette, and Jessica; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Marianne) McQueary of Westphalia and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary and Margaret and one brother, James.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11:30 a.m. from the Elk Rapids Baptist Church, 400 E. 3rd St., in Elk Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to service, and Rev. Gary Gladfelter officiating. Internment will be in Acacia Park cemetery, Beverly Hills, Mich.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Betty to the Elk Rapids Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

Warren Blow
Warren J. Blow, 82, of Kalkaska passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in his winter town of New Port Richey, Fla.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1921, in Ionia, the son of Warren J. and Flora (May) Blow.
Mr. Blow was a retired sheet metal builder for Ford Motor Company with 47 years of service, and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Kalkaska and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 398, F & A.M. in Bellaire.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo and Eugene Blow; and sister, Eileen Loco.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger, pastor of Shiloh Community Church, at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Cook Chapel, 220 Rich St., Ionia.
Interment will take place in the spring at Lyons Township cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday.

Robert Cole
Robert J. Cole, 70, of Gaylord and formerly of Twin Lakes, Mancelona, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004.
Mr. Cole was born in Northville on May 2,1933, and had been a longtime resident of the Northville area. He later moved to Mancelona where he owned The Hideaway Bar for 25 years. He had been living in Gaylord for a short time.
Mr. Cole was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home,135 N Center, in Gaylord on Wednesday, Jan. 28, beginning at noon and concluding at 7 p.m. with an Elks Lodge memorial service.
Mr. Cole, was a very devoted father. He is survived by his children, Brad (Wendy) Cole and Melanie Cole, both of Northville, Guy Cole of Mancelona, Ty Cole of Howell; and several grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan (Gaylord area) through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, Mich. 49734.

Phyllis E. Massey
Phyllis E. Massey, 68, of East Jordan died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at the Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24 at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. The Rev. Carl Litchfield officiated.
Phyllis was born April 7, 1935 in Chandler Township, the daughter of Newton and Dorothy (Hott) Sage. She grew up in Boyne City and graduated from Boyne City High School in 1953.
On Jan. 28, 1956 she married Richard "Dick" Massey in Boyne City. The couple made their home in Boyne Falls, moving to East Jordan in 1978.
Phyllis used to waitress at the former Dixon's and Sunnyside restaurants. She had been employed at Courters - Honeywell in Boyne City.
She retired in 2000 as one of the top seniority employees. Phyllis and Dick worked as hostess and host at Carp River National Forest Campground outside of St. Ignace for the past three years.
She was very close to her grandchildren and enjoyed her cats.
She is survived by her husband Dick; children, Ann (Charles) Gordon of Pinchnay, Mich., Cindy Massey of East Jordan, Rick Massey (Judy Kalbfleisch) of East Jordan; grandchildren, Samantha, Olivia, Richelle, Brandan and Yolanda; sister, Margie (Arnold) Massey of Boyne Falls; and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Arlene Prawdzik.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Charlevoix County Humane Society.

Frances "Dee" E. Patrick
Frances "Dee" E. Patrick, 71, of Jackson, Mich. went to be with the Lord, at home under the loving care of her family and Great Lakes Hospice, Jan. 10, 2004.
A funeral service was held at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson.
The Rev. Dottie Miller officiated. Interment was at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
She was born at her grandmother's home in Horton Bay to Charles and Gertrude Leist on July 10, 1932. She was the oldest of seven children that grew up in Bay Township.
On Dec. 25, 1950, Frances and her sailor sweetheart, Ray Patrick, eloped.
Having a Navy life they moved around a lot living in Maryland, Hawaii, Illinois and North Carolina before settling in Jackson.
She was a stay-at-home mom of four children and a retired teacher's aide for Jackson Public Schools and an active member and collegian of the Women of the Moose Chapter 389.
Frances is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ray A.; two daughters, Karen (Ed) Kirk, Donna (Jeff) Thomas; one son, Bill C. Patrick, all of Jackson; six grandchildren, Marci, Barbie, Rachel, Chuck, Dawn Rae and Ryan; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Devyn, Hailee, Maggie and Gabby; two brothers and three sisters, Frank Leist, Hazel Harmeling, Kathleen Schmoldt, all of Boyne City, Milo Leist of Fallon, Nev., and Dottie Miller of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Sullivan; a granddaughter, Lena Marie Sullivan; her parents, Charles and Gertrude Leist; and a brother, Ronald Leist.
Contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice.

The Rev. Martin
E. `Ernie' Alexander
The Rev. Martin E. "Ernie" Alexander, 83, of Morton, formerly of Emmet County, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton where he was a resident for two years.
He was born March 6, 1920, in Mancelona, to Andrew Jackson and Cora (Dowdy) Alexander.
On May 31, 1940, he married Anna Batterbee, who preceded him in death on July 14, 1995. Also preceding him in death was his parents, five brothers, seven sisters, and one grandson.
He was a pastor for 29 years in four different churches, retiring in Bliss. He was a member of the Groveland Missionary Church. He served in the World War II Air Corps.
He is survived by one daughter, Anna Margaret (Michael) of Grand Rapids; two sons, Bruce (Mary) Alexander of Croswell, and the Rev. Dr. Curtis (Kathy) Alexander of Morton; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m., at the Mancelona Missionary Church, with the Rev. Dr. Curtis Alexander officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in Fairview cemetery in Mancelona.
Memorial contributions may be made to Groveland Missionary Church Missions Fund or Mancelona Camp.
The family was served by Remmert Funeral Homes.
