Ralph Zirkle
Ralph Eugene "Gene" Zirkle, of South Boardman passed away on Feb. 20, 2006, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center in Kalkaska.
Born on Feb. 15, 1933, in Barrington, Kan., he was the son of the late Harold and Georgia Zirkle.
Ralph graduated from Topeka High School and joined the U.S. Navy as an aircraft engine mechanic and served on the USS Lake Champlain.
In 1958, after four years in the Navy, he changed services and entered the U.S. Air Force. He served with the Air Force for more than 22 years as an internal combustion and jet aircraft mechanic, most of his time working as a rocket and missile electronics technician. He worked on the Titan and Atlas intercontinental ballistic missiles, as well as various air-to-air guided missiles.
After retirement from active duty, he served his country for another 14 years as a civil servant military instructor and training manager for the Air Force. When Ralph had finished his time with the military, he had served for more than 36 years.
Ralph married Marilyn Kunkel on July 5, 1986, in New Braunfels, Texas. They moved to South Boardman in 1993, where Marilyn grew up and had family still living in the area.
Ralph strongly believed in serving his country and community. He was a member of the American Legion, Kalkaska County Veterans Affairs Board, Lions Club, Elks Organization, served on the board of review in Orange Township and was the Boy Scout district commissioner.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Peter (Mary) Zirkle of Oakley, Calif., Michelle (Jerry) Wilson of Aurora, Calif., Michael (Beverly) Zirkle of Calhan, Colo., Daniel (Michelle) Zirkle of Denver, Colo., and Jeffrey (Terri) Kunkel of New Braunfels, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and siblings, H. Bill (Bess) Zirkle of San Mateo, Calif., Jacque (Rick) Thompson of Barrington, N.H., and Patricia (Hamilton) Kennedy of Omaha, Neb.
Visitation took place Friday, Feb. 24, and funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Wolfe Funeral Home, with military honors provided by Gardner Neihardt American Legion Post No. 463 from South Boardman. Burial will be at Arlington National cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gardner Neihardt American Legion Post No. 463, Building Fund, South Boardman, Mich. 49680.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Lillian Beckwith
Lillian Beckwith, 93, of Fife Lake passed away Feb. 25, 2006, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ingersoll.
Lillian married Francis Tim Beckwith in Farmington on May 20, 1929. She resided most of her life in Kalkaska County's Springfield Township.
Surviving Mrs. Beckwith is her brother, LeRoy Ingersoll of Fife Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Beckwith was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Beckwith; and her sister, Mellisa Beckwith.
A funeral service was held Feb. 27 at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Ingersoll cemetery in the spring.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Irene Hutchinson
Irene Helen Hutchinson, 83, of Rapid City passed away on Feb. 24, 2006, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center's Long Term Care Unit.
Born on June 16, 1922, in Leslie, Irene was the daughter of the late Ward and Bessie (Harkness) Wilbur.
Irene graduated from Leslie High School in 1940. She married Robert Hutchinson on Nov. 23, 1945, in Angola, Ind. During World War II she worked in aircraft production in Jackson.
Irene retired from R. L. Polk Publishing Co. after 19 years of service. Robert and Irene were residents of Rapid City since 1955, moving from Leslie. She enjoyed camping, hiking, knitting, reading, dogs, cats and horses. Irene was a great cook.
Surviving Irene are her daughters, Sharon A. Hutchinson of Traverse City, Shirley D. Hutchinson of Kalkaska and Beth Hutchinson of Rapid City; and sisters, Bethel Dunlap of Leslie and Bonnie Fenn of Buchanann.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 3, 1990.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 2, at 1 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Michael L. Snyder of the Jehovah's Witnesses will be officiating, with burial to be at Clearwater Township cemetery in the spring.
Memorials may be given on behalf of Irene to A. C. Paws, P.O. Box 130, Mancelona, Mich. 49659.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Carrie Seabolt
Carrie Lynn Seabolt, 22, of Kalkaska passed away suddenly on Feb. 20, 2006, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Born on Dec. 8, 1983, in Traverse City, she is the daughter of Kenneth and Kay (Wilson) Seabolt.
Carrie graduated from Kalkaska High School in 2002. She enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping and two-tracking. Previously, she worked at the Northland Plaza in Kalkaska.
Carrie is survived by her parents; siblings, Stephanie (Richard) Tenniswood of Kalkaska, Jeramy N. Seabolt of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Yvonne L. (Mike Dimon) Seabolt of Kalkaska; grandparents, Muriel Weessies of Kalkaska, Betty Wilson of Falmouth; nephews and niece, Aaron Seabolt, Dylan Tenniswood, Levi Dimon and Chloe Dimon; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service was slated for Thursday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Kalkaska Church of Christ, with Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.
Memorials may be given on behalf of Carrie to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Larry David Elkington
Larry David Elkington, 54 of Kewadin, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, after his brave and strong fight with cancer.
Born April 21, 1951, in Muskegon, he was the son of Richard H. and Eloise J. (Lawler) Elkington. Larry graduated from J.F.K. High School in Sacramento, Calif. He went on to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he earned his bachelor's degree and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Throughout Larry's life he remained a loyal and enthusiastic USC Trojans fan, wearing USC attire and collecting anything bearing the university's logo or colors. Whenever USC played in the Rose Bowl, it was a given that Larry would host a Rose Bowl party.
After college, Larry indulged his life-long love of airplanes, working for Pacific Southwest Air and then US Airways. Larry collected aircraft models from a young age, sharing his passion with his young grandson, Mac.
On Oct. 24, 2004, on Torch Lake, Larry married the love of his life, Cathleen Ann Cardwell. Together they owned and operated Rustic Designs of Elk Rapids.
Larry was very active in the Elk Rapids business community, serving as past president of the Elk Rapids Chamber of Commerce; past president of the Elk Rapids Merchants Association; and past member of the Downtown Development Authority. Larry remained committed, and he encouraged participation by all.
While growing up, Larry's father was a committed business man, leading his local chamber. It was only fitting that Larry carry on what was instilled in him from a young age. He became a leader in his community and was known as the "Chamber Brat." His enthusiasm and dedication to Harbor Days fireworks was celebrated by the community.
As a young man, Larry attended Tiger baseball games with his grandfather, thus driving his continued love and support of the Detroit Tigers. He maintained a large collection of Tiger memorabilia.
Larry lived his life full of strength and determination. It was his nature to appreciate all of those around him, known as his angels.
Surviving are his loving wife, Cathleen of Kewadin; daughter, Lori (Ted) Rueffer of Traverse City; mother, Eloise J. Elkington of Onaway; grandson, Mac Wyatt Rueffer, and newly born granddaughter, Madelyn Paige Rueffer, both of Traverse City; uncle, Neil (Lenore) McNabnay of South Lyon; brother-in-law, Paul (MerriSue) Cardwell; nephews, Michael and Brandon, all of East Jordan; and many loyal friends across the United States.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Richard H. Elkington; and grandparents.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Covell Funeral Home of Elk Rapids, where the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
Those wishing to give memorials may direct them to the Elkington family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Donna M. Booth
Donna M. Booth was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Elk Rapids, one of the twins of Orin and Tressia (McCune) Dingman. In 1938, she married Clayton U. Booth. They raised their 10 children in the Elk Rapids area.
Donna was a homemaker. She enjoyed travel and bowling. Donna especially enjoyed family gatherings. She was a member of the Elk Rapids United Methodist Church and the Elk Rapids Historical Society.
Donna is survived by her son, Roger Booth of Williamsburg; eight daughters, Charlene (Ed) Bussa of Lansing; Bonnie (Larry) Corpe of Arlington, Texas; Marilyn (Guy) Sinclair of Elk Rapids; Myrna (Glen) Howse of Elk Rapids; Janet (Bill) Saylor of Kingsley; Carol (Dave) Himebauch of Petoskey; Valarie (Larry) Ball of Elk Rapids; Judy (Bruce) Parliament of Bellaire; daughter-in-law, Faye Booth of Kalkaska; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Clayton in 1991; son, Ronald; four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation took place Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Maple Grove cemetery in Elk Rapids at a later date.
Memorials may be given in Donna's name to Elk Rapids United Methodist Church.

Raymond D. John
Raymond D. John, 59, of Central Lake, died on Monday, March 13, 2006 at his home.
He was born on March 4, 1947 in Kewadin, the son of Harry Sr. and Ida (Anderson) John.
He spent many years living in Kewadin before moving to Central Lake 21 years ago. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Central Lake, was a member of the Kewadin Mission Church and was a longtime member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
He was a self employed drywaller and was an active member of Alcoholic's Anonymous.
On June 19, 1972 in Kewadin, he married Myra Miracle who survives. Also surviving are four children, Troy (Shannon) John of Petoskey, Tera (Arthur Mosqueda) John of Traverse City, Teia John of Central Lake, and Tena John also of Central Lake. In addition to his children he is survived by four brothers, Rev. Thomas (Phyllis) John of Kewadin, Harry Jr. (Carmen) John of Traverse City, Edward (Cindy) John of Northport, Gary (Carol) John of Traverse City, four sisters, Cheryl (John) Kukla of Traverse City, Debra (Mike) Frankenberger of Bailey, Connie Two Crow of Peshawbestown, Catherine (Dion) Crowley of Traverse City, three grandchildren, Jennifer Connell, Tyra John, Eve Mosqueda and aunt Evelyn (Clarence) Manitowash of Northport, a special sister-in-law Marilyn Jo Cox of Morley, 19 nieces, 20 nephews, many cousins and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Rev. Collins and Rev. Thomas John officiated.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the John family.

Carmen Fisher
Carmen (Laura) Fisher, beloved mom and grandmother of Bellaire, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2006. She is survived by daughter Cheryl Ramotowski, son Lance Fisher, grandson Brendan Topolewski, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Fisher. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at the Alexander Rye Funeral Home in Ludington, Saturday March 18th at 1:00 p.m. Memorials in Carmen's name are preferred to Interlochen Arts Camp or Interlochen Public Radio at www.interlochen.org/support/make a gift 1 or Interlochen Center for the Arts, Development Dept., PO Box 199, Interlochen, MI 49615-0199

Russell George Patterson
Russell George Patterson, 71, of Eastport, Michigan died on March 17, 2006 while vacationing in Venice, Fla.
He was born on August 22, 1934 in Saginaw. He later moved to Dearborn where he attended school and raised his family. He served in the U.S. Army and was a salesman for Revere Copper and Brass before retiring in 1996. He loved being with his family and many friends and will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Johnson); sons Rusty (Debbie) of Minnesota, Robert (Cindy) of Texas, Richard (Keely) of Idaho; grandchildren Rustin, Danielle, Spencer, Taylor, Kendall and Madeline; sister Ann Superko, nephew Mark and niece Julie.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. May 6, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.

Jeanette M. Buchanan
Jeanette M. Buchanan, 76, of Mancelona, died on March 17, 2006 at her home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska. Arrangements were handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Francis "Frank" Moore
Francis "Frank" Moore, 62, of Mancelona, died on March 16, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were held on Monday March 20, 2006 at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
