Larry Glen Davis
Larry Glen Davis, 81, of Rudyard, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Mackinac Straits Long Term Facility in St. Ignace. He was born on November 6, 1924, in Boyne City, Michigan to the late Anna Gertrude (Winkler) and William G. Davis.
Larry graduated from Boyne City High School in 1942 and attended Michigan State College. In 1943, he entered the Army and was assigned to the 96th Infantry Division where he participated in the assault landings on the Philippine Island of Leyete and on the Japanese island of Okinawa. During the fighting on Okinawa, he was awarded a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action and, along with all the members of the 96th, a Presidential Unit Citation. Larry later received a second Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service.
In 1947, he graduated from Michigan State College and in that same year, married Margaret Moreau. In 1948, he took a teaching position at Rudyard High School. Larry taught agriculture and served as the advisor for the Rudyard chapter of the Future Farmers of America. In 1961, he accepted the Assistant Superintendent position at Rudyard and served in that position until his retirement in 1978. Larry earned his Masters degree from Michigan State University in 1964.
Larry was a strong supporter of the community. He served as a scout leader for many years. He also served on the Rudyard Co-op and the Rudyard Co-op Credit Union boards and was a member of both the Rudyard Lions Club and the Rudyard Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. He was named Rudyard Citizen of the Year in 1989. Larry ran the Munoscong Senior Golf League in Pickford until 2001.He continued to serve Rudyard schools as a member of the Library Board and the Kids 2000 Committee, which was responsible for obtaining the funds to build the new multi-use facility and other enhancements to Rudyard Area Schools. His unselfish service was recognized in 2000 when the Board of Education named the Rudyard High School pool the Larry G. Davis Natatorium.
Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Moreau); five children: Elizabeth Davis of San Antonio, Deborah Davis of Lansing, Gary (Becky) Davis, and Barry (Lori) Davis, all of Rudyard and Terry Davis of Kimball; six grandchildren: Stephen Davis, Alicia (Tom) Lawlor, Christina (Rob) Bradley, Kevin Davis, Eric Davis, and Lindsey Davis, all of Rudyard; and three great-grandchildren: Randy Davis, Tanner Bradley, and Jadon Lawlor.
Larry was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister: Ervin Davis, Ivan Davis, Norman Davis, Max Davis, Rex Davis, and Fern McNeal.
A memorial service was held at the Rudyard Township Community Center on Thursday, March 16, with Reverend J. H. Vanlal Hruaia officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Larry G. Davis Scholarship Fund in care of the Rudyard Lions Club, P.O. Box 173, Rudyard, MI., 49780.

Gerald G. Thick
Gerald G. Thick, 64, of Clarkston and then Scottsdale, Arizona died Friday, March 10, 2006, after a courageous fight with brain cancer. He was born on March 29, 1941, in Pontiac. He is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Tracy, son Greg, and was the loving grandfather of Zachary, Jessie and Max.
Jerry was a wonderful man to be around with a great sense of humor. He was always there to help a friend. A semi-pro football player in his earlier years, he sold magnets to the automotive industry in Detroit during his career. Retiring to Scottsdale in 1999, Jerry was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by all of us who new him as "Big G." May he rest in peace as he continues his journey watching over the rest of his family and friends.
Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 5377 Phoenix, Ariz., 85010. Visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, March 14. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 15, at Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Raymond D. John
Raymond D. John, 59, of Central Lake, died on Monday, March 13, 2006 at his home.
He was born on March 4, 1947 in Kewadin, the son of Harry Sr. and Ida (Anderson) John.
He spent many years living in Kewadin before moving to Central Lake 21 years ago. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Central Lake, was a member of the Kewadin Mission Church and was a longtime member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
He was a self employed drywaller and was an active member of Alcoholic's Anonymous.
On June 19, 1972 in Kewadin, he married Myra Miracle who survives. Also surviving are four children, Troy (Shannon) John of Petoskey, Tera (Arthur Mosqueda) John of Traverse City, Teia John of Central Lake, and Tena John also of Central Lake. In addition to his children he is survived by four brothers, Rev. Thomas (Phyllis) John of Kewadin, Harry Jr. (Carmen) John of Traverse City, Edward (Cindy) John of Northport, Gary (Carol) John of Traverse City, four sisters, Cheryl (John) Kukla of Traverse City, Debra (Mike) Frankenberger of Bailey, Connie Two Crow of Peshawbestown, Catherine (Dion) Crowley of Traverse City, three grandchildren, Jennifer Connell, Tyra John, Eve Mosqueda and aunt Evelyn (Clarence) Manitowash of Northport, a special sister-in-law Marilyn Jo Cox of Morley, 19 nieces, 20 nephews, many cousins and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Rev. Collins and Rev. Thomas John officiated.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the John family.

Carmen Fisher
Carmen (Laura) Fisher, beloved mom and grandmother of Bellaire, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2006. She is survived by daughter Cheryl Ramotowski, son Lance Fisher, grandson Brendan Topolewski, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Fisher. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at the Alexander Rye Funeral Home in Ludington, Saturday March 18th at 1:00 p.m. Memorials in Carmen's name are preferred to Interlochen Arts Camp or Interlochen Public Radio at www.interlochen.org/support/make a gift 1 or Interlochen Center for the Arts, Development Dept., PO Box 199, Interlochen, MI 49615-0199

Russell George Patterson
Russell George Patterson, 71, of Eastport, Michigan died on March 17, 2006 while vacationing in Venice, Fla.
He was born on August 22, 1934 in Saginaw. He later moved to Dearborn where he attended school and raised his family. He served in the U.S. Army and was a salesman for Revere Copper and Brass before retiring in 1996. He loved being with his family and many friends and will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Johnson); sons Rusty (Debbie) of Minnesota, Robert (Cindy) of Texas, Richard (Keely) of Idaho; grandchildren Rustin, Danielle, Spencer, Taylor, Kendall and Madeline; sister Ann Superko, nephew Mark and niece Julie.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. May 6, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with the University of Michigan. Please send donations in Russell's name to the Cardio-Vascular Research Center, 301 East Liberty, Suite 400, Ann Arbor, MI 48194-2251.

Jeanette M. Buchanan
Jeanette M. Buchanan, 76, of Mancelona, died on March 17, 2006 at her home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska. Arrangements were handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Francis "Frank" Moore
Francis "Frank" Moore, 62, of Mancelona, died on March 16, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were held on Monday March 20, 2006 at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Laura Ann Clarke-Henry
Laura Ann Clarke-Henry, of Nokomis and formerly of Venice, Fla., died Feb. 21, 2006.
Laura was born Oct. 3, 1945, to Dolly and Ed Clarke of Royal Oak. Laura's family moved to and lived in Kewadin, and she went to Elk Rapids Schools, graduating in 1963.
She lived in Michigan for some time before moving to Venice, Fla., where she bought and ran the Colonial Manor Assisted Living Facility.
Laura is survived by her husband, Walter; stepson, Shane of Port Charlotte; sisters, Juanita Snur of Jacksonville and Lynn Howell of Punta Gorda; and two grandchildren.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James "Jim" Clarke.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mary Louise Houghton
Mary Louise (Stevens) Houghton, 92 of Kewadin, passed away to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 23, 2006.
Mrs. Houghton was a lover of music and had received her degrees from Oberlin College and the University of Michigan. She was active in many organizations; a past president of the Royal Oak YWCA; a member of PEO chapters CC and EB; the Kewadin Methodist Church and Shepard Hills Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz.
She resided for many years in Huntington Woods, where she was active in the Royal Oak First Methodist Church. She will always be remembered by her family as a loving, giving wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph H. Houghton in 1988 and is survived by her two children, Barbara Wood of West Bloomfield and her son Ralph H. (Audree) Houghton Jr. of Kewadin; three grandchildren Matthew, Karen and Mark.
Burial took place Monday, March 27, at Evergreen cemetery in Detroit.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

Ina Mae Falco, 92, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at her home in Jordan Township, Antrim County. No services are scheduled at this time. The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.

Ronald L. Hilts
Ronald L. Hilts, 65, of Central Lake, died on Monday, March 27, 2006 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
He was born on November 28, 1940 in Traverse City the son of Ralph and Mildred (Hohnke) Hilts.
He was a lifelong resident of Central Lake and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
On April 29, 1961 in Boyne City, he married Linda Spence who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Katherine (Donald) Barnes and Vicki Hilts both of Central Lake, his father Ralph Hilts of Central Lake, a sister, Donna (Jerry) McClean of New York and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Hilts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor Dave Scott will officiate. Interment will follow in Southern cemetery in Central Lake.
Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Lake Township Fire and Rescue.

Mildred L. Adams
Mildred L. Adams, age 87, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Evangelical Home in Saline. She was born August 5, 1918 in Flint, MI the daughter of Roy and Alice (Long) Curtis. Mildred was a member of the Wesleyen Church in Bellaire, MI and enjoyed being a member of the Senior Companions in Antrim County. She is survived by four children, Thomas (Sylvia) Weedon of Belleville, MI: Raymond (Joyce) Weedon of Knoxville, TN; Diana (Sam) Routley of Hisperia, MI and Jeanine (Gary) Periord of Saline; other survivors include 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one brother, Roy Curtis Jr. of West Branch, MI and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel G. Adams, two brothers and one sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday March 27, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline with Pastor Donald Roe officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery in Bellaire, MI. Friends may visit the funeral home on Sunday March 26, 2006 from 3:00-8:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
