Charles Bainum
Charles "Gene" Bainum, 79, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Northside Hospital & Heart Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was born in Caddo Parrish, La., and has been a winter resident in Pinellas Park, Fla. since 2000 from Central Lake, where he was a member of V.F.W. Post #6985, and Central Lake Lodge #426, F. & A.M. He was an iron worker and an Army Veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ruth H.; three sons, Walter G. and his wife Pat Ransom of Central Lake, Richard D. Ransom of Lansing, and Cecil E. and his wife Debra Bainum of Ferandina Beach, Fla., three daughters, Sherry Amaral of Jacksonville, Fla., Andrea and her husband David Motes of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Susan G. Wilson of Walloon Lake, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Memorial services took placeat 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at Golden Gate Mobile Home Park in Pinellas Park, Fla., with Dr. Howard Thompson as officiant.
A memorial service will be held June 13, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the Central Lake Masonic Lodge #426.

Verna H. Psahos-Trever
Verna H. Psahos-Trever, 94, of Elmira, died on June 5, 2006, at Munson Medical Center.
She was born on January 3, 1912, in Great Falls, Mont.
Verna was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her children as well as baking, cooking, and gardening. She also enjoyed doing ceramics and playing Bingo while at Meadowbrook.
She had resided in Elmira since 1986 and prior to Elmira she resided in Livonia and Utica.
She is survived by four children, Gene (Carol) Trever of Ray, Mich., Rick (Lisa) Trever of Elmira, Ken (Nancy) Trever of Milford, Larry Trever of Elmira, 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Burial will follow in St. Thomas Catholic cemetery in Elmira.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 7, from 4-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alba Public Schools class of 2007.

Eleanor M. Buckwheat
Eleanor M. Buckwheat, 86, of Mancelona, died on Monday, May 29, 2006, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
She was born on November 22, 1919, in Keyhole, Ky., the daughter of William and Ethel (Alexander) Martin.
She was a long time resident of Mancelona where she was a member of the Antrim Church of Christ.
She enjoyed shopping, flowers, reading, puzzles, cooking and baking.
She is survived by four children, William Buckwheat of Mancelona, Jason (Betty) Buckwheat of Ocala, Fla., JoAnne Allen of Mancelona and Michael (Sandy) Buckwheat of Rapid City. She is also survived by two sisters, Inez Short of Mancelona, Phyllis Meeder of Elsie, 8 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son Milton Buckwheat, 4 brothers, Donald, Harold, Rodger and Kenneth Martin, 4 sisters, Louise Martin, Doris Martin, Deloris Watson and Irene Patrick.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor Mark McCool officiated.
Interment was in Fairview cemetery in Mancelona.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona.

Damian Vondra
Damian Jacob Vondra died on May 30, 2006, in a work-related accident at the Austin Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
Damian began working as an assistant superintendent for the golf club just eight days ago. Damian fulfilled a dream of graduating with a bachelor's degree in science, with a focus on crop and soil sciences, from Michigan State University on May 5, and then began working at a prestigious golf course with national recognition.
Damian was a family-orientated person from Day No. 1. He was born at home on Feb. 18, 1983, during a planned home delivery to Rev. Mr. Edward and Martha Vondra. He was the youngest of seven children.
Damian treasured quality times with his family, girlfriend and friends. He would often play basketball with his brothers. Night or day, Damian would join in the fun. He loved to play golf and began tagging along with his brothers from an early age. As Damian grew older, he became the one inviting others to join him for a round a golf on a great course. Damian and his mom would sneak away late at night for shopping and games. Damian liked to play cards and became quite good at playing everything from memory to poker. His nieces and nephews remember how he was always so nice to every one of them. He made time for their interests and meet their needs. Damian helped all of his siblings, parents, and grandparents with projects at their homes. He was always willing to lend a hand on a project.
Laura, his girlfriend of four years, describes Damian as a best friend and a true love. Damian's passing was too soon for all those who knew and loved him
Damian was a huge sports fan. He played a big role in a goal line stand for Boyne City's football team during a game against Traverse City St. Francis, his senior year. While fans cheered wildly, Damian experienced personal and team success because of his commitment and work ethic. He made a huge impact.
Damian held himself to high standards as a son, brother, boyfriend, friend and as a professional. Kind, committed, generous, selfless, crazy for fun, easy going, and loving are ways to describe Damian.
He is survived by his parents the Rev. Edward and Martha Vondra; sister, Peg (Matt); brothers, Rick (Teri), Chuck (Theresa), Shawn (Stacy), Andy (Katie) and Tim (Mandi); nieces, Emma, Isabelle, Amanda, Rachel, Claudia, Grace and Hannah; nephews, Adam, Nick, Sam, Max and Noah.
Damian is now welcomed into heaven and joins the Lord's eternal kingdom.
Visitation was held on Friday, June 2, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City. A vigil service was held on Friday at the church.
A funeral mass was held on Saturday, June 3, at St. Matthews Catholic Church. Father Duane Wackowiack served as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Maple Lawn cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Damian Vondra Memorial Scholarship to be established for Boyne City students to pursue an education beyond high school, C/O Damian Vondra Memorial Scholarship, 417 Elm St., Boyne City, Mich. 49712.

Mary Brown
On May 26, 2006, Mary W. Brown, 95, of Boyne City passed away at Grandvue Medical Care in East Jordan.
Mary was born in Cullman, Ala., on March 21, 1911, to Anton and Elizabeth Merbs, who were of German ancestry.
Her early years were spent growing up with her brothers and sisters on a farm in the deep south. Her father grew cotton, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. Mary and her siblings were all expected to help with the many chores on the farm. She enjoyed sharing with her family her memories of picking cotton and when she was old enough, plowing the fields with her father's mule.
When Mary was 12, her family moved to Grand Rapids, where her father found work in a furniture factory. At a very young age, Mary went to work to help her family make ends meet as a housekeeper and in a bakery.
In 1933, she married her first husband, Henry Zimmerman. The couple raised their family in Central Lake and Muskegon _ all but one of their seven children were born at home. Mary and her family eventually settled in the Boyne City area on a small farm where Mary lived for more than 50 years, These were, as she often recalled to family and friends, the happiest years of her life.
With the death of her husband, Henry, in 1961, Mary went to work at the Dilworth Inn and later the Essex Wire Factory in Boyne City.
In 1963, Mary married Maynard Brown, a potato farmer from Elmira, and they shared several happy years. Maynard also preceded Mary in death.
Mary is survived by her sons, William (Nancy) Zimmerman, Henry (Alice) Zimmerman, and Clyde (Joan) Zimmerman; and daughters, MaryAnn (Allan) Baker, Norma (Floyd) Johnecheck. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by two children, an infant son, Seth, and daughter, Bernadine DeBaene; infant granddaughter, Jane Zimmerman, and grandson, Robert Schneck; as well as a son-in-law, Leon DeBaene.
Mass of the Resurrection took place Tuesday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City. Visitation was held the previous evening at Stackus Funeral Home.
Although Mary lived her entire adult life in Michigan, she always remained a simple, hard working little gal from the south.

Ina Vallance
Ina V. Vallance, 72, died on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at her home in East Jordan.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes Inc. in East Jordan. Pastor Mark Belanger of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Tabernacle in Central Lake officiated. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill cemetery, East Jordan.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1933, in Calvin Township, Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Dunn) McLaughlin. On Oct. 30, 1954, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, she married David G. Vallance. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1998.
Ina worked 38 years for Dura in East Jordan. She retired in 2001. She enjoyed knitting and loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Cheryl (Don) Clark of Central Lake, Brenda (Eric) Smith of Bellaire, Pamela (Richard) Stuart of Layton, Utah, and David Vallance of Kincheloe; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Laura McLaughlin of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, Elaine (Ken) Brough of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, and Nancy Hutchinson of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Clayton (Barbara) McLaughlin of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, and Vern (Joanne) McLaughlin of Niagara Falls, Ontario; brother-in-law, Allan Dobratz of Daine, Ontario, Canada; sister-in-law, Linda McLaughlin of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Norma Dobratz; and brother, Wilbert McLaughlin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will received friends on Tuesday at the Penzien Funeral Homes in East Jordan. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Little Traverse Bay.

Pamela Anderson
Pamela D. Anderson, 53, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on March 3, 1953, in Kalamazoo.
Pam married Larry Anderson on June 19, 1971, in Kalkaska. They were residents of Lakeland, Fla., since 1985, moving from Kalkaska. Pamela was active in the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lakeland.
Pam enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Pam is her husband, Larry, of 34 years; her children, Jennifer (Eric) Shelton, Tiffany Anderson and Jordan Anderson, all of Lakeland; grandchildren, Mackenzie Anderson, Sage Shelton, Hunter Shelton and Sawyer Shelton; and siblings, Cheryl (Ken) Brown, Kathy (Randy) Ortquist and Danny Rogers.
Visitation with the family was on Friday, June 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral was on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Bible Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry L. Anderson officiating. Burial was at Lodi cemetery.
Memorials may be given in behalf of Pamela to the Evergreen Bible Baptist Church.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Patricia Klett
Patricia E. Klett, 63, of Bristol, Ind., died Sunday June 4, 2006, at Americare Living Center in Goshen, Ind.
Patricia was born March 17, 1943, in L'Anse to Herbert Spencer and Virginia (Van) Carlson.
She married Howard Klett on Feb. 16, 1963, in Redford. She was a baker who worked for Meijer in Goshen and also had worked at Wal-Mart in various departments.
Patricia was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Kalkaska.
Surviving are her husband, Howard; sons, Howard (Carolyn) of Elizabeth City, N.C., Cory of Bristol, Ind., Donald (Kim) of Hartselle, Ala., Lowell (Penny) and Shannon (Robin), both of Goshen; father, Herb Carlson of Kalkaska; brothers, Jimmy (Sue) Carlson of Kalkaska, Don Carlson of Brighton, Del., (Wendy) Carlson of Kalkaska; sisters, Nancy (John) Cook of Webberville, Van (Norm) Beach of Mancelona.
Cremation has taken place. No visitation or services are planned.
Memorials in Patricia's honor may be made to the Salvation Army.

John Neumann
John Neumann, 62, of Mancelona, died suddenly on June 17, 2006, in Grand Rapids.
He was born on September 7, 1943, in Charlevoix, the son of Frank and Pearl (Wright) Neumann.
John was raised in East Jordan and went on to Davenport University on a basketball scholarship. He then transferred to Ferris State where he earned his bachelor's degree. Following graduation from college he began his teaching career with Mancelona Public Schools as a history and government teacher. He spent 30 dedicated years with the school system before retiring in 1996. He coached football for many years, spent five years as the athletic director, and was a proud member of the Michigan High School Football Coaches' Hall of Fame.
John attended the Mancelona United Methodist Church and was a Mason. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, camping, reading, watching the Detroit Tigers, and, most importantly, spending time with his wife, his children, his "in-law" children, and his grandchildren.
John touched many lives while he was here and will never be forgotten.
On August 9, 1966, in Montague, Mich., he married Sandra Walton, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Molly (Greg) Fichtner of Gibraltar, Mich., John (Laura) Neumann of Clarkston, Mich., Meg (Shawn) Nicholson of West Bloomfield, Mich., a brother Jim Pollitt of White Pigeon, a sister Donna (Larry) Polus of Gaylord, 6 grandchildren, (Ellie and Miles Fichtner, Natalie, Emma, and Sara Neumann, and Cecilia Nicholson), many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill, and a sister Mae.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2006, at 3 p.m. at the Mancelona Public Schools' Middle School Gymnasium. Rev. Kathy Steen will officiate. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John Neumann Scholarship Fund, C/O Mancelona Education Foundation, P.O. Box 586, Mancelona, Mich., 49659.
