Constance Reeves
Constance "Connie" Reeves, 61, of Kalkaska, died on June 28, 2006, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Funeral services were held on July 3, 2006, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Donald Kendall
WILLIAMSBURG - Donald A. Kendall, 88, of Williamsburg and formerly of Elk Rapids and Maple Rapids, passed away Friday, July 21, 2006, at Orchard Creek skilled care facility.
Don was born May 3, 1918 to Harry B. and Laura M. (Atkinson) Kendall in Grand Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Kathleen M. (Gephart) Kendall; and his brother Harry L. Kendall.
He is survived by his very dear friend and loving companion of 10 years Betty June Mayer; and his children Jerry and Betty (Fitzpatrick) Kendall, Glen and Norma (LaClair) Kendall, and Mike and Sandy (Kendall) Birdsley.
He is also survived by Kris and Linda Mayer, and Karl and Kristin Mayer, along with 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don graduated from Grand Rapids South High School and Michigan State College's School of Veterinary Medicine, class of '41.
He served his country in World War II as a captain in the Veterinary Corp in Northern Australia. He practiced Veterinary Medicine for 30 years in Maple Rapids. He moved to Birch Lake in 1976 and began a second career as a veterinarian for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and later for the Federal Department of Agriculture.
He belonged to the United Methodist churches of Maple Rapids and later Kewadin and was a life member of the Masonic lodge. He also belonged to both the state and national veterinary medical associations and was a member of the Elk Rapids Golf Club for 24 years.
Don was well known for his storytelling and loved to plan unique parties. His grandchildren were enthralled by his renditions of his "fractured" fairy tales. He enjoyed being with people and people enjoyed being with him.
A memorial service will be held on at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Kewadin United Methodist Church, with Rev. William Chu officiating.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the American Cancer Society or Kewadin United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.

Rena Bellinger
Rena M. Bellinger, 96, of Reed City and formerly of Kalkaska, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 19, 2006, at home.
Born on December 12, 1909, in Kalkaska County, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Katie (Green) Byers.
Rena married Orrin "Jack" Bellinger on March 18, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents; brothers, Bruce, Bill and Glen Byers; and sisters, Rhoda and Leona Byers.
Surviving Rena are her children, David (Mary) Bellinger, Donald (Peggy) Bellinger, both of Kalkaska, and Mary (Patrick) Bigelow of Reed City; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Way of Medford, Ore.; many nieces and nephews; special companions, Ozzie and Major; caregiver, Sylvia Kornoelje; and many friends from Hospice.
Rena graduated from Kalkaska Public Schools in 1927, which was the largest class at that time, of 27. She attended Ferris College and graduated from Central Michigan University where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Rena was president of The Department of Classroom Teachers over five counties, was voted "Teacher of the Year" for Kalkaska and Antrim County (MEA) in 1967, and was honored by the faculty and administration. She was instrumental in teachers getting tenure in Kalkaska County.
Rena retired from Kalkaska Public Schools in 1972 after teaching for 34 years and three generations of students.
Rena worked in the organizing the Kalkaska Historical Society and served as president. She also helped in establishing the Kalkaska County Museum.
Rena was an avid reader and loved her newspapers and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed bird watching.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.; and 6 to 9 p.m. at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service was on Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ted Turanski officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice of Cadillac, 7985 S. Mackinaw Trail, Cadillac, Mich. 49601.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

George Sparks
George Robert Sparks, 56, of Mancelona, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Munson Medical Center.
He was born on February 2, 1950, the son of Peg Bonney.
He was a lifelong resident of Mancelona where he was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and fishing.
On May 12, 1990, in Mancelona, he married Deborah L. Craft, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Dawn Sizemore of Alba, Amanda (James) Johnson of Kalkaska, Phillip Sizemore of Miss., Carrie (Gregory) Jenkins of Kalkaska, a brother, Braverd (Donna) Buckwheat of Traverse City, four sisters, Beverly Sparks of Grand Rapids, Cheryl Buckwheat of Mancelona, Charlotte (Phillip) LaFatta of Grand Rapids, Katherine Elkins of Mancelona, eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services took place on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mancelona.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

MaryAnn Glick
MaryAnn L. Glick, 71, of Grayling, formerly of Mancelona, died on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, in Frederic.
She was born on March 26, 1935, in Kalkaska, the daughter of Hilmer and Juanita (Clingan) Stoddard.
She resided in Mancelona since 1970 where she was a member of the Mancelona Moose Lodge #2254.
She was an avid Nascar racing fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
In December of 1955 she married Wesley Click who preceded her in death in 1979. Also preceding her in death were a sister Sally Robinson in 1990, a brother, Charles Stoddard, in 2006 and her parents.
Surviving are two sons, Scott (Eileen) Glick of Niles, Todd (Sheila) Glick of Elmira, a brother, Kenneth (Dawn) Stoddard of Rapid City; two sisters, Kay (Dick) Gabler of Rapid City, Phyllis Stoddard of Mancelona; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 21, 2006, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortenson Funeral Homes. Pastor Mark McCool officiated.
Interment took place in Coldsprings Township cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Martha Watson
Martha B. Watson, 87, of Central Lake, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care Unit.
She was born Jun 20, 1919, in Greenup County, Ky., the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (McDowell) Payton.
Martha and her husband Eddie were pioneers in adult foster care in the area beginning in the early 1950s and maintaining the Watson Adult Foster Care Home in Central Lake until retirement in 1979. They served the community by providing quality adult foster care to hundreds of residents.
She moved to Central Lake from Hulbert in 1948 and enjoyed bingo, oil painting and bowling.
Coming from a large family she was the glue that kept them together with many occasions at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, in 2000; her parents; four brothers Ross, Murvle, John and Charles Payton, and three sisters, Ila Tyrrell, Velma Windish and Wanda Aardema.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Waffle of Central Lake, Sarah "Fran" (Roger) Bolhuis of Ellsworth, Dawn (Don) Shannon of Central Lake; a brother, Loney "Bud" Payton of Hulbert; a sister Nancy Oliverius of Central Lake, six grandchildren, Dickie and Billy Waffle, Eddie Boh, Jeff, Scott and Martha Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Eddie Boh and Taylor Waffle.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, the Rev. Powers Payton officiating. Interment was in Southern cemetery, Central Lake Twp.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Lake District Fire and Rescue squad.

Beverly A. Bergholtz
Beverly A. Bergholtz, 52, of Kalkaska, formerly of Mancelona, died on July 22, 2006, in Kalkaska. A visitation was held on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Loretta Burgett
Mrs. Loretta June (Bailey) Burgett, 74, passed away July 29, 2006, in Kansas City, Mo. She was born June 6, 1932, to Cecil and Catherine (Dinges) Bailey, in Kalkaska County. She attended Barnhardt School, taught by her father. She also attended Mancelona Public School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Waren Bailey and Eugene Bailey; and one sister: Lydia (Bailey) Hershberger.
She is survived by her brother, Gordon Bailey of Owosso and her sister, Laura (Bailey) Huffman of Hesperia, her husband Jim, son Warren, daughter Carol Howell, three grandsons, two grandaughters, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Burial was in Kansas City.

Milton Gould
Milton Lewis Gould, 69, of Mancelona, passed away at his home on Aug. 15, 2006. He was born Nov. 27, 1936, in Corunna, Mich. He is the son of Willis and Margaret Gould (Bell-Moir).
Milton Gould was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served his time in Alaska.
He is survived by his children, Pamela Moslander (Joseph), Milton Ford (Ike), Willis Thompson (Lynda), Michael Thompson, Polly Thompson (Mark), Grant Vahovick, Mary Margaret Gould and Shawn Gould. Also surviving are siblings Herb Moir (Jo), Maude (Babe) Myers (Harold), and Margaret Root (Emerson), along with 18 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. There are many other loving family members and friends.
Milton was preceeded in death by his parents and sister, Cynthia Danbusen (William).
The family is honoring Milton's requests of a private memorial service. Anyone wanting to offer condolences or to contribute in lieu of flowers, can be sent to the family at the following address:

Charles E. Schepperley
Charles E. Schepperley, of Birch Shores, Trout Lake died Saturday, Aug, 19, at 8:05 a.m. at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care. He was born in Mancelona on May 16, 1935. His parents were James and Verna (Bonner) Schepperley. He retired from Jerry's Tool and Die in Gaylord in 1997 as a machinist. He had lived in Gaylord until 2003 when the family moved to Trout Lake, where they had owned a home since 1990. He loved to fish and hunt, and was a family man.
On March 16, 1957, he married Sonja Boyd in Mancelona, and she survives. Also a daughter at home, Anne; one son and his wife, Charles and Jayne in Gaylord; three brothers, Donald, Seattle Wash., and Traverse City; Harry and Marion, Bellaire; Clare and Geraldine of Livonia.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Arlie and a sister, Elsie Romanik.
At his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Grace Brethren Church in Ozark with Pastor Chip Jones officiating. The time will be 2 p.m. with family receiving friends one hour before.
Burial of his cremains will be in Lakeview cemetery in Trout Lake.
Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Julian Schoonmaker
Julian Bernard Schoonmaker, 92, passed away peacefully in Lansing on Aug. 14, 2006, with his beloved wife Viola, at his side. Born in Merrill, Mich. on Jan. 16, 1914.
Julian was preceded in death by his parents and five of his 10 brothers and sisters as well as his son and daughter-in-law Kristine Schoonmaker. He is survived by his daughter and sonin-law Patricia and Donald Wolgamott, as well as seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Julian will be missed by all.
There will be cremation and no service.
