Rose Monica Horton
November 3, 2006

Rose Monica Horton, 86, of Grayling Township passed away on Friday, November 3rd, 2006.
She was born in Hamtramck, MI on December 15, 1919, the daughter of the late Joe and Francis (Gudavicuta) Mataitis.
She married John Everett Horton in 1955, he preceded her in death in 1974. Rose and John moved to Grayling area in 1960 coming from Detroit.
She was employed as a Storekeeper at Camp Grayling for 15 years, worked at the St Francis Thrift Shop, and built C-47's during WWII.
Rose enjoyed gardening and music. She was kindhearted and never turned down a friend in need.
survived by:
Daughter: Lorraine (Armand) Lawrence of Grayling.
Son(s): Clay (Carole Chilton) Horton of Grayling., Mark Horton of Grayling.
She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Sister: Anne Palukas of Dearborn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Frances Zalewski.

Visitation will be Saturday November 11, 2006 at 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. Funeral service will follow with Rev. Ron Voelker officiating.
Interment will be at Long Rapids cemetery in Alpena, Michigan

Richard E. Beckman
October 27, 2006

Mr. Richard E. Beckman, 76, of Grayling passed away on Friday, October 27th, 2006.
Mr. Beckman was born in Detroit, MI on December 11, 1929, the son of the late Sven Olaf and Mildred (Cady) Beckman.
He married Nancy Locke on 9/23/1950 at Oxford, Michigan. Nancy preceded him in death in 2004.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Pvt 1st Class.
He retired from the automotive industry where he worked as an electrician.
He is survived by one cousin Beverly Adams-Emery of Roscommon
Graveside Service will be held at Crestview cemetery in Markey Twp, MI. on Tuesday November 7, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.

Ryan Davis
October 21, 2006

Ryan Davis, 19, of Grayling passed away suddenly in an automobile accident on Saturday, October 21, 2006.
He was born March 17, 1987 to Wayne and Jill (Howard) Davis. Ryan graduated from Grayling High School in 2005. He attended Ferris State University for Professional Golf Management, and Kirtland Community College.
Ryan was a man who loved his sports. From a very young age and into adulthood he actively participated in baseball, soccer, football, and basketball, but truly loved golf. He played varsity golf all four years of high school, setting records and participating in several state level competitions. In a close second for love of the game, was his passion for baseball of which he also played varsity all four years, adult leagues and the vintage baseball league with his father.
Ryan had a cheerful attitude, loved life, and was blessed with many long-time friends.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne and (Nancy) Davis, (Brian) and Jill Andersen, all of Grayling; brother, Justin Davis (Mary Wingfield) of Grand Rapids; sisters, Samantha Davis (Mick Clark) of Grayling, Elizabeth Andersen of Lansing; grandmothers, Helen Davis of Warren, Jeanne Carlson of Roscommon, Betty Clark of Mt. Pleasant, Yvonne Andersen of Grayling; grandfather Bruce Andersen of Interlochen; niece and nephew Paige and Aydden Clark of Grayling; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Donald Davis, Jesse Carlson, Paul Clark, and James Howard; and an uncle, Gary Nettleton.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday October 24, 2006 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm. at the Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling. Funeral services will be Wednesday October 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayling with Rev. Carl Davis officiating.

Joshua Leo Mastej
October 21, 2006

Joshua Leo Mastej, 18, of Grayling, MI. passed away suddenly in an automobile accident on Saturday, October 21st, 2006.
Josh was born in Detroit, MI on October 26, 1987, the son of the late Adrian Joy (Kurpiewski) and John Mastej who survives him of Grayling.
Josh moved to the Grayling area in second grade and was a 2006 graduate of Grayling High School.
Josh loved sports and outdoor acitivites. He played football, and basketball over his school years. His sport that he truly loved and excelled in was baseball. He won many awards for his catching abilities. He loved hunting and fishing, living on the farm, and school. Josh was an outgoing and kind hearted young man.He worked at the Grey Rock Cafe as a Cook.
survived by his father, John Mastej.
Sister: Jennifer (Keith) Procunier.
Brother: Brian of Grayling.
Niece:Kaden Procunier
Grandfather: John E. Mastej.
Preceded in death by his mother, Adrian Joy Mastej in 2001.
Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Tuesday October 24, 2006
1-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday October 25, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Rick A. Gaertner, 47, of Traverse City and formerly of Grayling passed away on
Thursday October 19, 2006.
Mr. Gaertner was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on November 19, 1958, the son of the Dale and the late Augusta (Holstrom) Gaertner.

Son: Dale (Lindsey) Gaertner of Grayling, MI.
He is also survived by 3 grandchildren.

Donna Jean Critchfield of Kalkaska.
He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Mr. Michael Hable, 54, of Grayling, passed away on Tuesday, October 17th, 2006.
He was born in Detroit, MI on June 10, 1952, the son of the late Harry and Lois (Gilespie) Hable.

Private graveside service was held at Beaver Creek cemetery.

Diane L. Monks
October 9, 2006

Diane L. Monks, 63, of Grayling, passed away on Monday, October 9th, 2006.
She was born in Detroit, MI on July 22, 1943, the daughter of the late William and Marion (Cummings) Galligan.
She married William Clifford Monks on August 08, 1969 in Monroe, Michigan.
survived by her husband William.
Daughter(s): Nikki (Bob) Adams of Madison Heights.
Arlene (Bill) James of Kansas.
She is also survived her granddaughter, Sarah.
Sister(s): Donna Puccio of Novi.,
Darlene Sabuda of River Rouge.
Brother: William Galligan of Virginia.
Preceded in death by parents.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 21, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grayling Eagles.

Alma Margaret Gorecki
October 5, 2006

Mrs. Alma Margaret Gorecki, 82, of Frederic passed away onThursday, October 5th, 2006
She was born in South Fork, Pennsylvania on July 21, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Emma (Dorn) Penrod.
She married Raymond Harry Simmons on December 24, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1970.
She later married William Gorecki who also preceded her in death in 1984.
Alma and William came to Frederic in 1978 and owned Manchau's Motel until about 1981.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Alma worked for Crawford County Transportation and at Hartwick Pines.

Son(s): Barry (Nora) Simmons of Howell, MI.
Keith (Henrietta) Simmons of Frederic.
Grandchildren: Kerry, Brian (Joanna), Sarah (Felix), and Sonya.
Five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Sister: Madeline Rishell of Pennsylvania.
Brother: Fred (Mary) Penrod of Ohio.
Preceded in death by husband Raymond Simmons, and husband William Gorecki,
Son; James Simmons in 1999, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwod Funeral Home on Friday Oct. 6, 2006 from 5-8 pm and on Saturday Oct 7, 2006 form 11-2 pm
Funeral service will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Saturday October 7, 2006 at @:00 pm
with Rev. Karen Henderlong officiating.
