Betty Jewel Madsen
October 3, 2007

Betty Jewel Madsen, 79, of Grayling, passed away on October 3, 2007.
Betty was born September 5, 1928 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Joseph Underwood and Viola “June” Bridges.
Her parents moved to Crawford County so her Mother could teach music and her father a stonemason.
Betty grew up in a home of music, studied dance, and became the “Shirley Temple” of Grayling.
She attended Crawford AuSable School and later attended the Battle Creek Kellogg Foundation School.
Betty married Howard Madsen in 1944 and became the proud mother of eight (8) children within twelve years.
After raising her family, Betty returned to Grayling High School to acquire her GED.
Betty ranked #1 in motherhood, attending five daughters and three son’s sporting events, recitals, camps and all the extras for her children.
She was a devoted wife and loved the Michelson United Methodist Church, her community as well as her many friends.
Betty supported the performing arts programs for years, performed years in the Milltown Follies, walked three miles every day, loved politics, enjoyed the ladies in her swimming group her weekly arts & crafts ladies.
She belonged to various organizations, her favorite was the Grayling Charter Chapter #83 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as past Worthy Matron.
Betty is survived by her eight (8) children: Sherrie Cole, Sharron Gabriel (Gerald), Shirley Hayes (Pat), Howard S. Madsen (Ann), Jerry Madsen (Jackie), Susan Nave (Charles), Robert Madsen (Kathryn), and Sandra Moore.
Betty is also survived by her brother Reverend Frank Gross, Jr. from Ohio.
Betty lived to watch her eight (8) children, nineteen (19) grandchildren and twenty two (22) great-grandchildren prosper and beamed at their accomplishments from all over Michigan to Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Washington.
“A Celebration of Life” was held Monday, October 8, 2007 at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church, with her dear friend Dr. Bill Cargo and her brother, Reverend Frank Gross, Jr. officiating.
A family internment of Betty’s cremains was held at Elmwood cemetery with brother Frank and “Betty’s Song” written and performed by her son Howard and grandson Kane Madsen.
Memorial contributions may be made to Betty’s favorite past times “Wellington Farm Park” or the “COA Senior Center Activities Department”.

Genevieve Fraser
October 2, 2007

Genevieve Fraser, 89, formerly of Grayling passed away on Tuesday October 2, 2007.
Genevieve was born in 1918 in Detroit, Michigan.
In her early years she sang on the radio with the Wayne Gospel Team.
Genevieve married William Fraser on February 10, 1934. They were married for 68 years before he preceded her in death in 2003. Genevieve had lived in Grayling for 31 years
before moving to Saline in 2003.
As the wife of a Methodist minister she was an active leader in may areas of the church.
Most important in her life was her family. She also enjoyed music, traveling and camping,

Daughters: Patricia (John) Lundy of Oswego, Illinois
Joyce (Phil) Davidson of Willis, Michigan
Sandy Davidson of Saline, Michigan.
Grandchildren: John "JT" (Renee) Lundy of Naperville, IL, Scot (Karla) Lundy of Oswego, IL, Lorraine (Jim) Hemmeter-VanCopponole of Ann Arbor, MI, Vincent Hemmeter of Worcester, MA,
Angela (Tom) Hemmeter-Wernimont of Austin, TX, Dustin and Beau Davidson of Saline, Leslie (Eric) Day of Grand Rapids, MI, Shane (Tiffany) Fraser of Lakewood, CO.
Great grandchildren: Calvin Lundy, Cooper Lundy, Colin Lundy,
Jacob Day, Patrick Day, and Thomas Day, and Stephen Lundy.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister Aza Lyons.
Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Thursday October 4, 2007
between 4 pm and 8 pm.
Funeral service will be held on Friday October 5, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at
Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. William Cargo officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Arbor Hospice and Home Care, 2366 Oak Valley Drive
Ann Arbor, MI 48103 or the American Heart Assn.

Janice Miller
October 1, 2007

Janice Miller, 69, of Grayling passed away on Monday, October 1st, 2007.d
Mrs. Miller was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on July 4, 1938,
the daughter of the late Robert Watson.
She liked to knit, crochet, read, and play bingo
She married Jim Miller on Sept. 25, 1969, he preceded her in death in 2006.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion
She is survived by
Son(s): John (Diane) Masella of Grayling.,
George (Lisa) Masella
She is also survived by 3 grandchildren.
Brother(s): Thomas (Carol) Watson
Visitation will be held on Friday October 5, 2007 between 12 noon - 2:30 p.m.
at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, Grayling, MI,
on Friday, October 5th, 2007 at 2:30
p.m.
Interment at Elmwood cemetery Grayling, MI.

Florence Johnson
October 1, 2007

Florence Caroline Johnson, 90, of Grayling passed away on Monday, October 1st, 2007.
Florence was born in Houghton Lake, MI on January 21, 1917, the daughter of
the late Charles A. and Vivian (Jenkins) Anderson.
Enjoyed crafts, traveled with kitchen band at the Senior Center.
She married Howard C. Johnson on November 28, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Florence had lived in the Grayling area since 1947.
She was a member of Grayling Free Methodist Church and enjoyed the activities at the Crawford County Commission on Aging.

Son(s): Russell (Charlene) Mudge of Elsie, Michigan
Roy (Pamela) Johnson of New Hudson, Michigan.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, a son, William Mudge,
and brothers: Elwood Anderson, Charles Meyers
Visitation will be held on Thursday October 4, 2007 between 11:00-12:00 noon at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
Funeral Service at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, Grayling, MI, at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 4th, 2007 with Ron Larson officiating.
Interment at Elmwood cemetery Grayling, MI. with commital by Rev. Joe Carpenter.

Robert Allen
October 1, 2007

Mr. Robert Allen, 73, of Grayling passed away on Monday, October 1st, 2007.
Robert was born in Lapeer County, MI on November 25, 1933,
the son of the late Frank Edward and Alice Mae (Ludington) Allen.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He married of Constance Allen on February 26, 1956 in Mt. Dora, Florida.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, National Rifle Association, and the
Sportsman Club. He enjoyed deer huntering, trapping, fishing, outdoors, and collected guns.

Judy Stewart of Eustis, Florida.
He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Memorial Service will be held at at at Burning Bush Tabernacle on Michigan Avenue in Grayling, MI, Friday, October 5th, 2007 with Rev. Patricia Petrie officiating. Military Honors will also be accorded by American Legion Post 106 and Camp Grayling Firing Squad.

Dale Czuba
September 25, 2007

Dale Alan Czuba, 56, of Grayling, passed away on Tuesday, September 25th, 2007.
He was born in Saginaw, MI on December 10, 1950, the son of
the late Andrew Joseph and Arlene (Albers) Czuba who survives him of Grayling, MI.
He lived in Graying since he was 11 years old.
Dale is fondly remembered by his family and friends as being mechanically gifted and could fix anything. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mud bogging.
Dale worked for 17 years at Gust Auto Parts and 11 years at CSI.

Lena Paulsen
November 23, 2007

Mrs. Lena (Lee) Paulsen, 81, of Grayling passed away on Friday, November 23rd, 2007.
Lee was born in Waterloo, Iowa on May 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Michael and Metra Boubeff.
She went on to become a secretary working in the public schools.
"Her family was her life."
Lee was married to Robert Paulsen, on April 26, 1953 in Detroit.
Lee is survived by her husband Robert.
Daughters: Lori J. (Gary) Werner of Brunswick, OH.
Michelle S. (David) Guerra of Newburry Park, CA.
Sons: Robert F. (Parrish) Paulsen III of Los Angelos, CA.,
Michael S. (Jim Kozloff) Paulsen of New York.
Grandchildren: Ashton Paulsen, Megan & Maxwell Werner, Andrew, Tyler, & Benjamin Guerra.
Brother: Ted (Fran) Boubeff of Dearborn, MI.
Lee was preceded in death by her infant son Kenneth David Paulsen, and two sisters: Sue and Florence
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 25th,2007 from 2-4 & 6-8, at
Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, Grayling MI.
Funeral Service will be held at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church, Grayling, MI,
at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26th, 2007.
Interment at Elmwood cemetery Grayling, MI.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials in Lee's name may be made out to the Dialysis Center of Gaylord 1989 Walden Dr. Gaylord, MI 49735.
