Virginia Wellman
December 24, 2007

Mrs. Virginia Wellman, 72, of Blue Lake Township, Kalkaska County passed away
on Monday, December 24th, 2007.
Virginia was born on April 3, 1935 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late
Eugene Albert and Elvene (Anderson) Kaiser.
The former Virginia Kaiser married Arthur Wellman on January 23, 1954 in Flint, Michigan.
They were married for 53 years before Arthur preceded her in death in July 2007.

Rhonda (Gary) Lockrey of Lambertville, MI
Sheri (Glenn)Lichtenwald of Ottawa HIlls, Ohio.
Grandchildren: Rachel, Tarah, Justin, Megan, Alona, & Aaron
Great grandchildren: Kiley & Charlie
Several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Arthur Wellman, son Mike Wellman, and 3 brothers.
Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Friday December 28, 2007
between 2-4 pm. and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on
Saturday December 29, 2007 at 12:00 noon.:
Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery in Frederic, MI. in Spring 2008.

Helen Louise Crawford
December 15, 2007

Helen Louise Crawford, 73, of Grayling, passed away Saturday, December 15th, 2007 peacefully at the home of her son Bob Shepherd in Traverse City, Surrounded by her loving husband Lloyd and five children.
She was born in Grayling, on January 10, 1934, to Harry W. and Edris E. (Pease) Sorenson. She married Lloyd Crawford on July 15, 1960. As well as Lloyd, the joy of her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed shooting tournament archery with her husband and friends during her many years of employment at the Bear Archery and then moved on to the Crawford AuSable Schools for 10 years, retiring in 1995. She and Lloyd traveled extensively all over the country, including a 1300 mile motorcycle trip around the parameter of Lake Superior. Her love for nature and wildlife continued through the years as she and Lloyd resided on the banks of the AuSable, creating many great family memories while canoeing and kayaking adventures ensued on the AuSable and North Branch. She and Lloyd left miles of worn shoe leather during their daily walking routes together in and around town.
Her generous and serving nature was a blessing, as reflected by the numerous family dinners that she love to host. She was highly resourceful, organized and believed in the principles to make it last, wear it out, use it up, and she had an enormous talent for teaching that something amazing could be made out of the simplest ingredients. Her compassion to "root for the underdog" was also exhibited in her daily life.
She is survived by her five children; Terry (Penny) Shepherd, Gary Shepherd, and David Shepherd of Grayling, Bob (Gen) Shepherd, Becky (David) Crawford of Traverse City. Also surviving are three siblings; Sandra (Joe) Lowe of Traverse City, James Sorenson of Lovell's, and Nancy (David) Niederer and sister-in-laws Dorothy and Joyce Sorenson of Grayling, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her legacy includes her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ed (Marge) Sorenson, Don Sorenson, and Lewis Sorenson. No services are planned at this time. A private service will be held at a later date.

Edith Mae Lovely
December 15, 2007

Edith Mae Lovely went home to the Lord on December 15th, 2007.
Edith Mae was born to Emil and Eva (Kestenholtz) Golnick on February 14, 1920 in Crawford County. She attended school in Roscommon and Grayling, graduating from Roscommon High School. She married Leo E. Lovely on June 18, 1938 and they were blessed with 69 years of marriage. During World War II, they lived in San Francisco the returned to Grayling to be near their family and friends.
Surviving family members include her husband, Leo: Her six children Julie Ward of San Diego, CA; Michael (Kathy) Lovely; Kim Lovely; Mary Ruth (Allen) Lowe of Grayling Marcia (David) Etters of Jackson MI.; and David (Carol) Lovely of Grayling.
Also surviving are 22 Grandchildren: Corinna Coram, Gil Ward, Mick Lovely, Dustin Lovely, Suzan Beattie, Kimberly Lovely and Todd Lovely, Amy Jo Anthony, Nicholas and Darcie Lovely, Phil, Kyrsta, Benjamin, Nathan and Lucas Lowe, James, Sarah and Julia Etters, Angeanette (Lovely) Zelek, Jonathan Lovely, Adam and Matt Birk.
In addition 16 great grandchildren: Cathrine, Corinna Carston and Caitlyn Coram, Ashton and Parker Ward, Megan and Kaitlin Lovely, Alex Coatney, Eathan Beattie, HailleJane Lovely, Marshall Anthony, Isabel and Jackson Lowe, Cami Leray, Jacob and Caleb Lowe.
Edith was well known in the community during her lifetime as a devoted mother. She was active in St. Mary's Parish, serving in many capacities and volunteering her services as needed. As the Director of the Crawford County Selective Service Board one of her duties was to register the draftees and with a heavy heart would accompany the young men to the bus station on their way to active duty. Before retirement Edith also worked at the Crawford County Health Department and could be often found assisting her husband, Leo in the County Clerks Office. She had a great sense of humor and compassion for others using both to encourage and comfort. She lived her life loving her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Edith will be remembered for her kind, generous and giving nature.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, three infant children and two grand children.
Edith's celebration of life was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday December 18, at 11 am.
Interment will be held in the spring. The family asks that any donation be designated to St. Mary's Building Fund.

Ivor
December 6, 2007

Mr. Ivor Thayer, Sr., 80, of Grayling passed away on Thursday, December 6th, 2007.
Ivor was born in Hemlock, Michigan on December 30, 1926, the son of
the late Edward and Ada (Barber) Thayer.
He married the former Betty Bowler on September 26, 1953 in Germfask, Michigan.
Ivor started working in his early teens. He got his first bike with the money from his first job. He began working in the woods and sawmills. He was an edgerman in the sawmill in Newberry, Michigan for many years. He drove tractor and horses in woods skidding logs.
Ivor and his wife also owned a gas station in Mio, Michigan from 1968 to 1977. They sold out and put a restaurant in Atlanta, Michiigan. Ike not liking the restaurant work, decided to sell. The restaurant is still operating.
They moved to Marquette, Michigan where Ike had to retire from the Chevrolet Garage due to a heart attack.
Ivor did do some deer hunting when he was younger. Ivor learned to play the mouth organ and guitar at the early age of four. His greatest love was singing and playing his guitar. He loved to travel, and most of all, loved his family .
Ike & Betty were married for 53 years before she preceded him in death in July 2007.
Ivor is survived by
Son:Ivor (Dawn)Thayer Jr. of Ohio.
Daughters: Betty Handrich of Grayling, MI
Linda LaTourneau of Gwinn, MI
Grandchildren:Deana (Les) Schrade, Jesse LaTourneau, Jeremiah Thayer, Uriah (Sarah) Thayer
Brother: Edward (Iris) Thayer of Battle Creek, MI.
Several nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Monday December 10, 2007 between 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church
with Pastor Robert Barnett officiating.
Interment will be at West Lakefield Township cemetery in Germfask, MI. in Spring 2008.

Patricia Wakeley
December 6, 2007

Patricia B. Wakeley, 78, of Ionia, passed away on Thursday, December 6th, 2007.
Patricia was born in Crawford County, MI on January 6, 1929, the daughter of
the late Arthur and Susan (Krishay) Skingley.
She was the widow of George 'Richard' Wakeley.
Patricia is survived by
Sons: Richard A. (June) Wakeley of Chipley,Florida.,
Thomas R (Trudy)Wakeley of Orleans, MI.
She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday December 13, 2007 between 11-12.noon at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home with Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 noon with Dr. William Cargo officiating.
Interment will be at Beaver Creek Twp. cemetery in Spring 2008.

Thomas R. Stancil
December 3, 2007

Mr. Thomas R. Stancil, 92, of Grayling passed away on Monday, December 3rd, 2007.
Thomas was born in Smithfield, NC on November 3, 1915, the son of the late Walter and
Dilly Ann (Renfrow) Stancil.
He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II.
He married the former Georgianna Olson in 1941 in Florida, she preceded him in death in 1985.
Thomas is survived by
Sons:Arnold T. Stancil of Grayling,
George (Marilyn) Stancil of Grayling,
Phillip (Grace) Stancil of Grand Rapids,
He is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren
Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife Georgianna, a daughter Ann Marie Stancil,
two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Monday December 10, 2007
between 6:00-8:00 pm. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday December 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Michelson
Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayling.
Interment will be held in Spring 2008 at Elmwood cemetery Grayling, MI.
Memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society

Frederick J. Constantine

Frederick J. Constantine, 77, of Higgins Lake passed away on Monday, August 25th, 2008.
Frederick was born in Detroit, MI on March 8, 1931,
the son of the late Frederick A and Carrie (Garrison) Constantine.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of American Legion Post #190 of Northwest Detroit.
