Attica

Elden C. Johnson, 69, of Attica, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in Saginaw.
He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Detroit to Carl and Grace (Wilner) Johnson. He married Susan Howell on Feb. 25, 1980, in Romeo.
He worked for Duross Decorating as a painter and belonged to Local 37 in Detroit. He served in the Army. His hobbies included fishing and being with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of Attica; children, Carl of Attica, Laird Ahrens of Lapeer and Carl (Karen) Ahrens of Hazel Park; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and brothers, Roy of Clinton Township and Robert of Burtchville.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Jean Rattew.
Funeral services were Saturday (Jan. 11) at Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo. The Rev. Eric Majeski of Grace Lutheran Fellowship in Romeo officiated.

Woodrow Fred Hoisington
Died: Wednesday, January 08, 2003
Age: 89

Attica

Woodrow Fred Hoisington, 89, of Attica, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Kith Haven Nursing Facility in Flint.
He was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Imlay City to Fred and Marion (Nimmo) Hoisington. He married Isabelle Florence Bradley on March 1, 1961, in Pontiac.
He lived most all of his life in the Imlay City and Attica areas. He graduated from Imlay City High School in 1932. He served in the Army during World War II. He had been employed by the United States Postal Service as a mailman at the Imlay City Post Office for 35 years before retiring around 1968. He was a member of the Imlay City Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Hoisington of Attica; daughters, Jackie Midtgard of Bloomfield Hills and Joy (Lonnie) Evans of North Carolina; grandchildren, Steve (Brenda) Spitler, Rick Gladden, Doug Gladden, Mike (Jeannie) Gladden, Mike (Anja) Ballard and Kim (Ken) Lowen; eight great-grandchildren and sisters, Lenore Kruse of Imlay City, Patricia Foster of St. Clair, Rachel McFarlane of Florida and Marion McCall of Goodells.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Philip Ballard and Mike Ballard; and grandson, Tim Spitler.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Imlay City Athletic Boosters.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 16) at Attica United Methodist Church, Attica. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. Cliff Schroeder will officiate.

Lorayne E. Blower
Died: Tuesday, January 07, 2003
Age: 93

Port Huron

Lorayne E. Blower, 93, of Port Huron (formerly of St. Clair Shores), died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003.
She was born Dec. 23, 1909, in Indiana to William and Minnie Belle Lewis.
She was active with the St. Clair Shores P.T.A. and was the social editor for the Macomb Daily and the South Macomb News.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Blower of Allenton and Sharon Billiau of Almont; grandchildren, Deborah Beattie of Howell, Thomas Blower of Macomb Township, John Blower of Oakland Township, Garth Wagner of New York, David Wagner of St. Clair Shores, Susan Davis of Almont, Kurtiss Billiau of Warren, Rebecca Goldenberg of Florida, Robin Axsom of Dryden and Merry Lenz of Davison; great-grandchildren, Jessie, John, Natalie, Tara, Brooke and Thomas Blower, Alyson Beattie, David Wagner, Jessica Billiau, Nicole Bitters, David Billiau, Justyn and Joshua Selph, Trista Pingle, Adam Billiau, Andrew Davis, Kailee Billiau, Erik Axsom, Emily and Daniel Goldenberg, John and Hayley Lenz; and great-great-grandchildren, Gabriel Bitters, Alexander Bitters and Ariyanna Cupin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Blower; son, Gary Blower; and grandson, Eric Blower.
Cremation had taken place.

Daniel C. Taft
Died: Tuesday, January 07, 2003
Age: 91

Imlay City

Daniel C. Taft, 91, of Imlay City, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
He was born April 7, 1917, in Romeo, to Adon and Bella (Trombley) Taft.
He served in the Navy and was a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed working in his yard and also dancing.
He is survived by his nephews, LaVerne (Lisa) Franks and David (fiancee, Brenda Wagner) Franks of Mayville.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bernice Hall and Marjorie Franks; and brothers, Edward and Benjamin Taft.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayville Fire Department.
Funeral services were Friday (Jan. 10) at Avram Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. John Ball officiated. Military honors were conducted by Mayville Veterans of ForeignWars Post 10884. Burial was in Christian Memorial Cultural Center, Rochester Hills.

Ervin J. Haskill
Died: Monday, January 06, 2003
Age: 96

Lapeer

Ervin J. Haskill, 96, of Lapeer, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003.
He was born Aug. 22, 1906. He married Marion McGonegle in June of 1929.
He was a farmer and dedicated many years to public service in the Lapeer area.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas Haskill of Allen Park and Bill Haskill of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Haskill on May 6, 1998.

Mary Woodall
Died: Monday, January 06, 2003
Age: 50

Brown City

Mary Woodall, 50, of Brown City, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Ann Arbor.
She was born May 4, 1952, in Flint to Thomas and Elaine DeView. She married William Woodall on May 19, 1973.
She graduated from the Dominican Academy High School in Lake Orion. She was a loving wife, mother and daughter. She was a member of St .Mary's Catholic Church, where she served her fellow parishioners.
She is survived by her husband, William; children, William (Rachel), Anthony (Mayya), Nathan, Jeremy (April) , Eric, Christian and Elaine; grandchildren, Madison, Sarah, Joshua and Isabel; parents, Thomas and Elaine DeView; four brothers, three sisters, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Visitation was Wednesday (Jan. 8) at Carman Funeral Home, Brown City.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 9) at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Church cemetery.

Wilbur C. Lane
Died: Monday, January 06, 2003
Age: 70

Evart

Wilbur C. Lane, 70, of Evart (formerly of Hadley), died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003.
He was born to George and Ivy (Cramton) Lane. He married Joan Centers on June 27, 1953.
He graduated from Goodrich High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked in the nickel plating department in Plant 2 of Pontiac Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1981. He loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his children, Sherry (Betty Hopkins) Lane of Auburn Hills, George (Tammy) Lane of Fenton, Rose (Greg) McHugh of Hadley and David (Jennifer) Lane of Evart; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan L. Lane in 1996; sister, Rachael Howell; and his parents.
Funeral services were Friday (Jan. 10) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The. Rev. Peter DeKlerk officiated. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, Lapeer, with a military graveside service under the auspices of American Legion Post 16 Honor Guard.

Eldren McLain
Died: Sunday, January 05, 2003
Age: 75

Lakeland, Fla.

Eldren "Red" McLain, 75, of Lakeland, Fla. (formerly of Lapeer), died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 21, 1927 in Jonesville.
He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was retired as an auditor for the Treasury Department for the State of Michigan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lapeer, Order of the Eastern Star 142 of Lapeer, Masonic Lodge 54 of Lapeer and the American Legion of Lapeer, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Coldwater. He was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret of Lakeland, Fla.; sons, Daniel (Jan) of Birch Run, James (Deb) of Lapeer and Charles (Sue) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter, Charlotte (Dr. Robert) Donnell of Alpena; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and sister, Elizabeth of California.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lapeer County Library, Attention: Phyllis Clark (librarian).
Funeral services were Sunday (Jan. 12) at Lakeland Harbor Mobile Home Park.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
