Dan "Hoover" Seybert, 46, of Phoenix, Ariz. (formerly of Imlay City), died Saturday, March 22, 2003, in Phoenix.
He is survived by his daughters, Julie Seybert (fiancˇ, David) of Phoenix and Cassie Seybert of Phoenix; parents, Clarence and Fran Seybert of Lapeer; brothers, Tom (Heather) Seybert of Wolverine and John (Meredith) Seybert of Fostoria; sisters, Shelly (Ray) Swain of Lum, Judy Vanderploeg of Lapeer and Becky (Joe) Paggen of Foley, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and grandmothers, Bessie Seybert and Hazel LeFaivre.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Kristen Marie Seybert; and grandfathers, Clarence Seybert, Sr. and Bill LeFaivre.
Funeral services were in Phoenix, Ariz.
Kenneth Acheson
Died: Friday, March 21, 2003

Oxford
Kenneth Acheson, 76, of Oxford, died Friday, March 21, 2003.
He was the second generation owner-operator of Acheson Jewelers in Oxford and Lapeer, established in 1928. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1944, where he served as class president. Upon graduation he entered the Army at age 18 and served from 1944-1947. He was a Michigan State University alumnus, and a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where he held many leadership positions. He was past director of the Oxford Bank (1988-2000), member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Oxford Downtown Development Authority. He served as a volunteer for the Oxford-Orion FISH and the Samaritan's Purse Charity, distributors of items to the needy around the world. He also was a member of the Independent Jewelers Organization.
He is survived by his children, James (Marilyn) Acheson of Ann Arbor, Patricia (Andy) Wasylyna of Leonard, Janice (Jay) Smith of Oxford, Judy (Terry) Royster of Oxford and Robert (Lenora) Acheson of Clarkston; 11 grandchildren; and brother, Marvin (Shirley) Acheson of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean C. Acheson; and parents, Harvey and Edith Acheson.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Oxford United Methodist Church or The Samaritan's Purse (Billy Graham Ministries).
Funeral services were Tuesday (March 25) at Oxford United Methodist Church, 21 E. Burdick St., Oxford. The Rev. Joseph R. Baunoch officiated. Burial was in Kingsbury cemetery, Addison Township.

Alan Johnson

Lapeer
Alan "A.J." Johnson, 75, of Lapeer (formerly of Grand Rapids), died Thursday, March 20, 2003.
He was born May 18, 1927, in Muskegon to Raymond and Helen (Berklund) Johnson. He married Myrtle Pye on June 17, 1950, in Manistee.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a manufacturing engineer for over 41 years, retiring in 1994 as vice president of manufacturing from Growth and Opportunity in Lapeer. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manistee, American Legion Post 16 in Lapeer and the National Rifle Association. He especially enjoyed flying, shooting, gardening and collecting cartridges.
He is survived by his children, Kelle Ann Prescott (fiancˇ, Bob Schafer of Grandville); friend and companion of 19 years, Sharon Stone of Lapeer; grandchildren, Becky (Bob) Heffelbower of Walker, Brian Jollands of Grandville and Troy Prescott of Grandville; step-grandchildren, Starlynn and Shaelynn Griggs, Raelynn Hartman, Brittni and Cody Stone, all of Lapeer; sisters, Pat (Stanley) Thomas of Manistee and Sally (William) O'Neil of Connecticut; and many close friends and family including, Duane (Annette) Stone of Lapeer, Earl Stone of Lapeer, Tammie Stone of Columbiaville, Karen (Bryan) Griggs of Lapeer, Howard Mathews of Metamora, Martin Platt of Rhodes, Walter Goelling of Troy and Jay Hartman of Flint.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Johnson; parents, Raymond and Helen Johnson; and sister, June.

Funeral services were Monday (March 24) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Fred McDowell officiated. Burial was in Oregon Township cemetery, with a military graveside service under the auspices of American Legion Post 16 Honor Guard.

Eileen Wilson Taylor
Died: Thursday, March 20, 2003

Lapeer
Eileen Wilson Taylor, 91, of Lapeer died Thursday, March 20, 2003, after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Belfast, North Ireland, to Daniel and Margaret (McMillan) Wilson. She married Robert L. Taylor on Dec. 24, 1948, in Esslingen, Germany.
She began a career in the British Civil Service after graduating from the Princess Gardens School of Belfast. She then joined the United Nations Displaced Person Organization (UNRRA) in 1946 in the aftermath of World War II. She met her husband while he was stationed in Germany as the UNRRA Deputy Chief of Operations for the U.S. Zone. After they were married, they came to Lapeer in 1950. She then involved herself in many community and charitable efforts. She worked for more than 20 years as a volunteer in the gift shop of the Lapeer County Hospital, now known as the Lapeer Regional Hospital. She was a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer and a director of the Lapeer Chapter of the Red Cross. She was also involved with the Lawyers' Wives Association. She was an enthusiastic golfer and remained an avid bridge player and gardener to the end of her life. The Taylors enjoyed many trips abroad, including journeys to Africa, China, South America, Greece, Australia, Japan, Egypt, the Galapagos Islands, Europe, Great Britain and Ireland. They also traveled extensively throughout the United States.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Taylor; son-in-law, Peter E. Gillespie of Westport, Conn.; grandchildren, Geoffrey Taylor Gillespie, Colin Taylor Gillespie and Ian Taylor Gillespie; brother, Archibald (Vera) Wilson of Gwynedd, Wales; niece, Fiona Venn and her family of Colchester, England; and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Taylor in 1992; parents, Daniel and Margaret (McMillan) Wilson; and brother, Samuel Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Four County Community Foundation of Almont, the youth of the First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer or the Marguerite DeAngeli Library.
Funeral services were Monday (March 24), at the First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer. Burial was in the Mount Hope cemetery in Lapeer.

Margery Mae Surtees, 71, of Lapeer died Thursday, March 20, 2003.
She was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Flint to Floyd and Zena Myers. She married Robert Surtees on Dec. 17, 1952.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She owned and operated Surtees Styling Salon in Lapeer.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Surtees of Lapeer; children, Terry (Jackie) Surtees of Lapeer and Cindy (Charles) Knockeart of Lake Orion; grandchildren, Lori (Jason) Murray and Penny Burke; great-granddaughters, Mallori, Carley and Alexus; siblings, Gordon Myers of St. Helen, Joyce Taylor of Detroit and Marlon Shotwell of Brighton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Myers; mother, Zena Myers; grandchildren, Tara Bradshaw and Travis Bradshaw; and siblings, Clair Myers, Gene Myers, Eleanor Unverzagt and Elmer Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lapeer County McLaren Hospice or American Diabetes Association.

Marlette
Clare E. McVean, 89, of Marlette (formerly of North Branch), died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Marlette Community Hospital's Hospice House in Marlette.
He was born Sept. 7, 1913, in North Branch to Grover and Myrtle (Shoemaker) McVean. He married Leola Sheppard on March 4, 1939, in Marlette.
He lived in Marlette for 40 years. He worked at the former Marlette Lumber Yard for 20 years, Dave Hall Chevrolet and Marlette Coach. He was a member of the Marlette First Presbyterian Church, Marlette Masons, Eastern Stars and North Branch Royal Arch Masons 138.
He is survived by his wife, Leola; daughters, Darlene (Don) Coenen of Imlay City and Linda Moore of Boynton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Sherrie Coenen of Indianapolis, Ind., Brian Coenen of Orlando, Fla., Shelli (Bob) Sutton of Imlay City, Kelley Lamb of Imlay City, Terri (Karl) Zimmerman of Sarasota, Fla., and Brad (Michelle) Moore of Englewood, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Evan, Kyle, Ada and Drew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Edward.

Stella Emily Geil, 93, of Imlay City, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
She was born March 1, 1910, in River Falls, Wis., to Morris and Emma (Olson) Healy. She married Clarence Elwyn Geil on June 15, 1940, in Pontiac.
She grew up in River Falls, Wis. She was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dryden, a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester and Hix and Chix Square Dancing Group for 30 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Robert) Miller of Oakland; sons, Elwyn (Jean) Geil of Rochester and Ralph (Karen) Geil of Napoleon, Ohio; grandchildren, David Miller, Charles Miller, Aaron Miller, Wendy Geil, Traci Gerdeman and Loren Geil; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on Jan. 13, 2003; parents, Morris and Emma Healy; and brothers, Kenneth Healy, Arthur Healy and Lyman Healy.
Funeral services were Friday (March 21) at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dryden. The Rev. Steven Helms officiated. Burial was in Attica Township cemetery, Attica.

Dorothy M. D'Arcy

Dorothy M. D'Arcy, 75, of Almont, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Lake Orion Nursing Center, Lake Orion.
She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Attica to Walter and Mildred Perlberg. She married Edward D'Arcy in September 1947 in Almont. She worked at Hurd Lock in Almont and at Hamil Manufacturing-Firestone in Romeo.
She is survived by her daughters, Arlene (Des) Bauman of Almont and Sharlene (Marc) Henderson of Almont; grandchildren, Kelly (Ron) Keyes of Almont, Erin Henning of Seattle, Wash., and Michael Henderson of Almont; and great-grandchildren, Racheal, Zack and Chelsee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D'Arcy in 1975; parents and brother, Bob Perlberg.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (March 20) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. The Rev. Ralph Barteld of the West Berlin United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Ferguson cemetery, Almont.
