Myrtle Elsie Messenger
Died: Friday, February 21, 2003
Age: 101

Lapeer

Myrtle Elsie Messenger, 101, of Lapeer (formerly of Lewiston), died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003.
She was born March 13, 1901, in Coldwater, to Wallestine and Emma (Piellusch) Wood. She married Elmer Messenger in 1918 in Baldwin.
She was a house parent at the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, retiring in 1966. At that time she moved to Lewiston where she lived until 1996, when she moved to the Lapeer area. She enjoyed flowers, crocheting, knitting, gardening, reading and writing letters. She was a member of the Eastern Star and attended the Lapeer Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children, Ralph (Gloria) Messenger of Florida and Naomi Cummings of Owosso; 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, siblings, Marsha, Velma and Victor; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Messenger in 1968; sons, Wendell Messenger and Robert Messenger; siblings, Clarence, Dan, Walter, Mamie and Jessie; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lapeer Hospice or Michigan Christian Youth Camp.
Funeral services were Monday (Feb. 24) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Minister Kent Hoggatt officiated. Burial was in Flint Memorial Park cemetery, Flint.

Floyd E. Henderson
Died: Thursday, February 20, 2003
Age: 88

Lapeer

Floyd E. Henderson, 88, of Lapeer (formerly of Corpus Christi, Texas), died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
He was born March 21, 1914, in Kansas City, Mo., to Jewel and Dolly (Dunn) Henderson. He married Lois L. Jenningson Oct. 16, 1935, in Independence, Mo. He was a founding member of the Island Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was the master counselor of the Order of Demolay while he lived in Kansas.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Henderson of Lapeer; children, Loralee (Durand) Benjamin of Lapeer and Paul (Liz) Henderson of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Vivian McDaniel of Brossier, La., and William Henderson of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has chosen cremation.

Carol R. Reed
Died: Thursday, February 20, 2003

Clearwater, Fla.

Carol R. Reed, 55, of Clearwater, Fla., and Lapeer, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
She was born May 4, 1947, in Attica, to Owen and Leona (Wolgast) Reed.
She was an industrial engineer for 30 years for General Motors, which later became American Gear and Axle. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Clearwater.
She is survived by her mother, Leona Reed of Clearwater, Fla., and Lapeer; and siblings, Donna Reed of Clearwater, Fla. and Lapeer, Roger Reed of West Branch, Tom Reed of Lapeer and Gerald Reed of Lafayette, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her father, Owen Reed; and sisters, Shirley Winafeld, and Joyce Reed, died on Feb. 21, 2003.
The family is planning a memorial service at a later date. Burial was in Attica Township cemetery, Attica

Phyllis Piwinski
Died: Wednesday, February 19, 2003
Age: 83

North Branch

Phyllis Piwinski, 83, of North Branch, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Detroit, to Philip and Mary (DeLong) Simon. She married Leonard Piwinski in Detroit on Feb. 23, 1946.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jon) Molski of Georgia; sons, Alan (Cindy) of North Branch and Len (Scottie) of Oxford; grandchildren, Leah, Sarah, Laura and Michelle Piwinski, Kristen and Jonathon Molski; brother, Ralph (Shirley) Simon of Detroit; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Fran (Rick) VanHaaften and Theresa Collins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; parents and three brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Saints Peter and Paul Altar Society in Phyllis' name.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday (March 8) at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, North Branch.

Irene Lucille Brion
Died: Monday, February 17, 2003
Age: 88

Rochester Hills

Irene Lucille (Strunk) Brion, 88, of Rochester Hills (formerly of Metamora), died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills.
She was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Detroit to Carlton and Ethel (Ennis) Strunk. She married Gordon Ross Langfordon April 7, 1934, in Detroit.
She was a graduate of Cass Technical High School in 1933. She later returned to school and earned her nursing degree in March of 1960 from McAuley School of Practical Nursing in Pontiac. She worked in the newborn nursery at Pontiac General Hospital and later worked for doctors Dayton and Siffring in Rochester and also Lake Orion Nursing Home. She was a volunteer for the "Adopt A Grandparent" program for the Lake Orion and Lapeer community schools. She was a member of the Paint Creek United Methodist Church in Rochester.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Doreen) Langford of Fort Myers, Fla.; daughters, Nancy (Richard) Peskey of Metamora and Patti Fautley of Rochester Hills; grandchildren, Kimberly (Lee), Sharon (Dave), Donna (Jeffrey), Laurie (Toro), David (Dawn), Christine (Erick) and Jennifer (James); 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and brother, Raymond (Aileen) Strunk of Bellevue.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Harold R. Brion; son, David A. Langford; parents, Carlton Strunk and Ethel Robbins; and infant brother, Walter Strunk.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Habitat for Humanity.
Funeral services were Thursday (Feb. 20) at Pixley Funeral Home, Rochester. the Rev. Sylvia A. Bouvier officiated. Burial was in Christian Memorial cemetery.

Robert J. Giguere
Died: Sunday, February 16, 2003
Age: 81

Lapeer

Robert J. Giguere, 81, of Lapeer (formerly of Flint), died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Flint to Frank and Roseanne (Carriview) Giguere. He married Kathleen Daly on Dec. 20, 1941, in Flint.
He served in the Army during World War II, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and formerly of 40-8 in Flint. He was a Teamster, driving in the beverage industry for over 30 years. He then managed Crestview Manor in Lapeer for over 19 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was able, and most importantly he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Lapeer; children, Sandy (Ivory) Reynolds of Davison, Gary (Pamela) Giguere of Davison, Shireen Woodruff of Lapeer, Vaughn (Lucinda) Giguere of Gainesville, Ga., Patty (Jim) Stobridge of Fenton, Janice (Dave) Vernier of Davison, Marc (Connie) Giguere of Linden and Mckielynn (Rick) Donovan of Crossville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 16 in Lapeer.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Feb. 19) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The Rev. Janusz Iwan officiated. Burial was in Flint Memorial Park cemetery, Mount Morris.

Timothy T. Tallieu
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 36

Lapeer

Timothy G. Tallieu, 36, of Lapeer, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.
He was born July 10, 1966, in Lapeer to Gerald Tallieu and Mary Jane Hart-Walker.
He was a past member of the Detroit Underground Union 1191. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his father, Gerald (Lois) Tallieu of Luzerne; mother, Mary Jane (Marion) Hart-Walker of Ovid; brothers, Lewis of Lapeer, Phillip (Khris) of Lapeer and Gerald Jr. (Cynthia) of Mississippi; sisters, Dawn (Dan) Zarodkiewicz of Kinde and Cindy (Mark) Mitchell of Marlette; grandmother, Mary Hart of Lapeer; grandfather, Harry Johnson of Clifford; and many other family members and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or Genesys Hospice.

Harold J. McLeish
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 84

Lapeer/Mayville

Harold J. McLeish,84, of Lapeer-Mayville, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.
He was born June 16, 1918, in Mayville to James T. and Maude (Summerix) McLeish. He married Louise Green and Helen Dodge.
He was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God, Lapeer. He retired from Oakdale Regional Center, where he had served as supervisor, completing 21 years of service.
He is survived by his children, Donald (Cecila), James, William, Harold Jr. (Carolyn), Marilyn (Allen) Thorp, Linda (Colin) Webb and Margaret (Alan) Natzel; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Potbury and Lorna Foreman.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Louise (Green) McLeish and Helen (Dodge) McLeish.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Feb. 19) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Edward Chandler officiated. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, Lapeer.
