Nancy L. Fernald, 67, of Grimesland, N.C. (formerly of Lapeer), died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
She was born June 30, 1935, in Pontiac to Charles and Helen (Macon) Ferguson. She married Lawrence E. Fernald on Jan. 28, 1956, in Rochester.
She managed Sunshine Foods-Convenient Mart for 11 years. She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, reading and traveling.
She is survived by her children, Diane (Michael) Young of Grimesland, N.C., Vicki Fernald of Grimesland, N.C., Linda (Gary) Stardevant of Lapeer, Lisa (Bobby Joe) McRoy of Greenville, N.C., Stephanie (Tracy) Mills of Greenville, N.C.; grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Fejedelem of Lapeer, Jon-Michael and Elizabeth McRoy of Greenville, N.C., Logan Mills of Greenville, N.C.; and siblings, James (Joanne) Ferguson of Romeo, John (Pat) Ferguson of Gaylord, Victor Ferguson of Metamora, Elizabeth Cassel of Rochester Hills and Katherine (Norman) Tope of Rochester Hills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Earl Fernald; parents and brothers, Charles W. Ferguson and Richald L. Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
Funeral services were Saturday (Feb. 8) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. James Sheldrake officiated. Burial was in Christian Memorial cemetery, Rochester Hills.

Dorothy M. Smith
Died: Monday, February 03, 2003
Age: 61

Lapeer

Dorothy M. Smith, 61, of Lapeer, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Lapeer to George Sr. and Ann (Corniel) Moore.
She is survived by her children, Terri (Michael) O'Dell of Lansing, Donald Smith of Rodgers, Ark., Sarah (Michael) Cline of Lapeer, Merri (Daniel) Cline of Columbiaville, Rebecca (Kevin) Gibson of Lapeer and Amie (Terry) Schlaud of North Branch; grandchildren, Donald Jr., LeeAnn, Kenneth, Ashley, Matthew, Amanda, Nichole, Samantha, Brandi, Michael, Zachary, Nicholas, Ryan, Michelle, Abby, Emilee, Caitlin and Hanna; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; and special friend, June Garcia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith in 1995; an infant daughter, Ann Marie; parents, George and Ann Moore; and sister, Alta Tallieu.
A rosary was recited Wednesday (Feb. 5) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 6) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Deacon Jerry DeShaw will officiate. Burial will be in Stiles cemetery in Mayfield Township.

James Andrew Miles
Died: Sunday, February 02, 2003
Age: 80

Attica

James Andrew Miles, 80, of Attica (formerly of Romeo), died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Ferguson Convalescent Home in Lapeer.
He was born March 10, 1922, in Kentucky. He married Marie Jones on July 25, 1939, in Kentucky.
He was employed by R.C. Mahine Steel Co. of Detroit and National Twist Drill before retiring in the mid-1970s.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Miles of Attica; sons, Willard "Dick" (Ruth) Miles of Corbin, Ky., William Miles of Florida, George (Barbara) Miles of Smith Creek and Robert (Cindy) Miles of Fostoria; daughters, Barbara (Robert) Beckman of Munising and Patricia Schoen of Attica; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Miles in 1972.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 6) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Peter DeKlerk will officiate. Burial will be in Christian Memorial Cultural Center, Rochester Hills.

Dorothy D. Goodrich
Died: Sunday, February 02, 2003

Dorothy D. Goodrich, 87, of Lapeer (formerly of North Branch), died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003.
She was born July 19, 1915, in North Branch, to John and Blanche (Fifield) Turner. She married Norman Frank Goodrich on Sept. 19, 1936, in North Branch.
She was an active member of Calvary Bible Church and the Golden Warriors Group. She was involved with Suncrest Auxiliary and the Lapeer Business and Professional Women. From 1952-1986, She provided home day care and during World War II she worked in an airplane plant for 18 months.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Duncan of Lapeer and Denise (John) Hart of Lapeer; son-in-law, Max Duncan of Lapeer; grandchildren, Janice Pingel of Flint, Brian (Leann) Duncan of Lapeer, John (Kara) Hart Jr., and Joseph Hart of Lapeer; great-grandchildren, Kayeann, Justin, Brhannon, Dawson and Dylan; brother, Wayne (Donna) Turner of Wayne; sister, Sylvia Gaither of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wanda Turner of Lapeer, Dolores Turner of Allen Park, John Castle of Muskegon and Don (Karen) Keller of Lake Orion; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, N. Frank Goodrich in 1984; grandson, Craig Duncan in 1997; parents, John and Blanche Turner; and siblings, Gladys Turner, William Rapley, L.J. Turner, Annabelle Keller and Joybelle Castle.
Memorial contributions may be made to WMPC or Calvary Bible Church.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Feb. 5,) at Calvary Bible Church, Lapeer. The Rev. Arnold Bracy officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery, North Branch.

Michele Diane Hauxwell, 36, of Lapeer (formerly of Oxford), died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003.
She was born Sept. 14, 1966, in Lapeer to Louis Richard Hauxwell and Ruth Ellen Shick.
She supported the Brain Injury Association and was interested in archery. She had attended the Deerfield Church of Christ.
She is survived by her mother, Ruth Hauxwell of Lapeer; father, Louis Richard (Darlene) Hauxwell of Oxford; siblings, Richard (Virginia) Hauxwell, Kimberly (Russ) McBride, Kevin (Annie) Hauxwell, Michael (Becky) Hauxwell, Annette (Adam) Spens, Jason Hauxwell and Ashleigh Hauxwell; and nieces and nephews, Amanda McBride, Janette Hauxwell, Amanda Garcia, Adam Hauxwell, Kelly Thomas, Cammron Hauxwell, Allison Spens and Blake Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her nephew, Michael David Hauxwell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Association or Suncrest Auxiliary.

Evelyn Fay Lanckton, 89, of Holly-Fenton, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Fenton Extended Care Center.
She was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Columbiaville to Delbert and Florence (Castle) June. She married Wayne H. Lanckton Sr. on June 22, 1934, in Gary, Ind.
She was a graduate of St. Mary Nursing School in Saginaw. She worked at the Genesee County Library for 13 years. She and her husband owned and operated Wayne's Market in Mount Morris for 18 years. She was a member of the Holly Calvary United Methodist Church, Jolly 18, Neighborhood Ladies Club in Mount Morris Township, Home Economics Extension Club and was a 4-H Leader. She was Miss Lapeer of 1931.
She is survived by her children, Faye (Melvin) Ketzbeau of Fenton, Wayne Jr. (Shirley) of Traverse City, Dr. Gary (Sharon) of Lapeer and Kathleen Percy of Milford; grandchildren, Valerie, Steven, Craig, Lynn, Gerald, Debra, Wayne A., Cathy, Robert, Daniel, Tim, John, Mark, Veronica, Lonnie, Kristia, Stephanie, Charles IV and Shannon; great-grandchildren, Holly, Kevin, Kristin, David, Clark, Lucas, Ronald III, Amy, Robert, Katie, Lily, Charles V, Aaron, Curtis, Corey, Loren, Alana, Meagan, Christopher and Alicia; brother, Ralph (Angie) June of Lapeer; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne H. Lanckton on Aug. 21, 2002; parents, sister, Frances Powers; and brothers, Max and Jimmy June.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holly Calvary United Methodist Church or Genesys Hospice.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Feb. 5) at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel. The Rev. David Ray officiated. Burial was in Roselawn cemetery, Perry.

Janice Ann Heyza

Janice Ann Heyza, 57, of Attica, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn.
She was born April 29, 1945, in Ovid to Bruce and Bernice (Rodgers) Mudge. She married Arthur Douglas Heyza in Comins on Aug. 8, 1962.
She grew up in Atlanta (Mich.) and lived in the Attica area for the past 30 years. She was employed by Willis Manufacturing in Dryden as a machine operator for the past 17 years.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Heyza of Attica; daughter, Tammy Meier of Columbiaville; son, Charles "Chuck" (Lisa) Heyza of Davison; grandchildren, Corey Meier, Christopher Meier, Joshua Heyza, Kristin Heyza, Jacob Heyza, Megan Heyza, Jennifer Heyza and David Heyza; and sister, Janet (Walter) Schaschko of Emmett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Bernice Mudge; and brothers, Bruce Mudge Jr., James Mudge and Ronald Mudge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shepherds Home.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Feb. 5) at the First Baptist Church, Lapeer. The Rev. Dave Hill officiated. Burial was in Fairview cemetery, Fairview.

Arcadia Popovici
Died: Friday, January 31, 2003
Age: 89

Almont

Arcadia "Cadie" Popovici, 89, of Almont, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Fenton Extended Care Center.
He was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Detroit to Peter and Anna Popovici. He married Helen MacKenzie in 1947 in Romeo.
He served with the Army during World War II. He owned and operated Almont Lock Co. He was an avid collector of old cameras having over 100 cameras in his collection.
He is survived by his sons, Peter, Paul and David, all of Almont; sister, Mary Roach of Florida; several nieces and nephews and very dear friend, Nora Anderson of Almont.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; one daughter and his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hartland Hospice 1321 S. Linden Road, Suite B, Flint, MI 48532.
A private funeral service was Monday (Feb. 3) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. Burial was in West Berlin cemetery, Allenton.
