Dorothy Edna Butterfield
Died: Sunday, September 08, 2002
Age: 80

Attica

Dorothy Edna Butterfield, 80, of Attica, died Sunday (Sept. 8, 2002) at home.
She was born March 18, 1922, in Lapeer County, to Andrew and Mary Belle (Owens) Booth. She married Elven Henry Butterfield in Attica on Dec. 2, 1938.
She owned and operated Butterfield's Bait Shop for several years. She worked as a housekeeper at Suncrest for several years and then later at Oakdale Regional Center for 15 years before retiring in the early 1980s. She was a member of Attica Order of the Eastern Star, and attended the Attica United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her beloved friend of 32 years, Ben G. Gardner of Attica; daughters, Bonnie Jean Miller of Imlay City and Gail Lynn (James) Montgomery of Lapeer; son, Larry Lance (Mary) Butterfield of North Branch; eight grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and sister, Margaret Lindsey of St. Helen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elven Butterfield in 1968; daughter, Linda Madeline in 1994; son-in-law, Henry S. Miller; and sister, Frances Kempf.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Sept. 11, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Kevin Harbin officiated. Burial was in Attica Township cemetery, Attica.

Constance M. Rottman
Died: Thursday, September 05, 2002
Age: 59

Beaverton

Constance M. Rottman, 59, of Beaverton (formerly of Almont), died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2002).
She was born Dec. 23, 1942, in Detroit to Edward and Nellie (Erickson) Belanger. She maried Marvin Rottman in Warren on July 1, 1961.
She was a member of Scared Heart Catholic Church in Beaverton, the Moose Lodge and the Eagles. She had a great love for animals of all kinds, especially for horses. She was an avid sports fan, she loved to watch NASCAR races with her family. Although she and Marv retired and moved up north, she still had her ties in Almont.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; daughters, Kim (Bill) Duke of Allenton and Laura (Steve) Taylor of Almont; son, Chris (Michelle) Rottman of Allenton; grandchildren, Katie, Chris and Josh Duke, Ryan, Rick and Andrea Taylor and Logan Rottman; mother, Nellie Belanger of Atlanta; and brothers, Gary, Tom, Greg and Ronnie.
She was preceded in death by her father; and brother, Allen Belanger.
Funeral services were Sunday (Sept. 8) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont.

James Eldon Reath
Died: Thursday, September 05, 2002
Age: 73

Owosso

James Eldon Reath, 73, of the Owosso-Corunna area (formerly of Iron Mountain), died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2002) at his home.
He was born May 31, 1929, in Kingsford to Alex and Hildur (Erickson) Reath. He married Eloise May Forrest in East Lansing.
He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947 and received a bachelor's degree in education from Michigan State University in 1953. He served in the Army as a 1st lieutenant in Japan. He was a restaurant owner and private operator in Lapeer. He was the director of food services at Central Michigan University and Lake Superior State University. He also published cookbooks for institutional cooking. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise; sons, Michael (Patricia) of Corunna and Steven of Shelbyville; daughters, Wendy (Chris) Burns of Mason and Ellen (Rick) White of Traverse City; grandchildren, Marcus, Mandy and Brett Reath, Joshua, Levi, FC3 Nickolas and Evan Pulver, Faith Burns, Eric and Kevin Reath, Cameron and Christina White; brother, Norman (Jane) Reath of Fremont; sisters, Gerry Flynn of Rockford and June Eklund of Iron Mountain; and aunt, Lillian Melvin of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick; and sister, Bernice.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James Reath Memorial Fund.
Funeral services were Monday (Sept. 9) at the First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Rodger DeVore officiated. Burial was in Deerfield cemetery, North Branch.

Mary L. Nichols
Died: Thursday, September 05, 2002
Age: 81

Mary L. Nichols, 81, of Lapeer for 15 years (formerly of Owosso), died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2002).
She was born April 23, 1921, in Oakley, to Steven and Mary (Cheslia) Waydak.
She was head of housekeeping at Memorial Hospital in Owosso. She served her country in the WACS, as a sergeant, during World War II. She was an active member at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Darlene Watkins with whom she lived in Lapeer; grandchildren, Shelly (Mike) Bouren of Oxford and Greg Watkins of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Miranda and Megan Bouren; step-son, Jack (Gayle) Nichols of Lake Geneve, Wis.; step-daughter-in-law, Ann Nichols of Slidell, La.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Sophie Nequist of Durand, Joe Waydak of Riverside, Calif., Vince Csapos of Ovid and Mary Flemming of Nashville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dave Watkins in 1998; step-son, Fred Nichols; husband, Lee Nichols; brother, Tony Waydak; sisters, Theresa Wilkinson and Anna Rigling.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Lapeer.
Visitation and rosary services were Sunday (Sept. 8).
Funeral mass was Monday (Sept. 9) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lapeer.

Reva I. Schultz
Died: Wednesday, September 04, 2002
Age: 93

Almont

Reva I. Schultz, 93, of Almont, died Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2002) at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1908, in Barryton, to Earl and Nellie (Fineont) Wheeler.
Her first husband, Roger Ginther, died in 1957. She married Wilbert Schultz in 1958.
An avid homemaker, she was still cooking, cleaning, and baking old fashioned sweet rolls.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert; children, Gary (June) Ginther of Grayling, Kay (Donna) Ginther of Iowa, Don (Marilyn) Ginther of Grayling, Gerald (Lois) Schultz of Lum and MaryJo (Richard) Wahula of Almont; grandchildren, Kim, Mark, Brett, Kevin, Kerry, Kelly, Katie, Karen, Renee, J.R., Danielle, Sarah and Ryan; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lloyd Wheeler.
Funeral services were Friday (Sept. 6, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. The Rev. Jim Byrd officiated. Burial was in White Chapel cemetery, Troy.

Howard H. Nihranz
Died: Wednesday, September 04, 2002
Age: 76

North Branch

Howard H. Nihranz, 76, of North Branch, died Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2002).
He was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Detroit to William and Florence (Haas) Nihranz. He married Lorraine Bintz in Angola, Ind., in 1953.
They loved to spend their summers with their family at their cabin on Barnes Lake, where they enjoyed all water sports. Before retirement, he was the shipping manager for Borden's Dairy with 46 years of service. At the age of 15 he started working in the barns at Borden's Dairy taking care of horses. After retirement, he enjoyed working with wood projects. He loved to camp, go fishing, hunting, and playing the harmonica. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (George) Sari of North Branch; granddaughter, Ellen Sari of North Branch; and special friend and companion, Jackie Freeman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine in 1999; and brothers, Earl, Rowland and Ervin.
Funeral services were Saturday (Sept. 7) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. The Rev. Wayne Ferrigan officiated. Burial was in West Deerfield cemetery, Fostoria.
Arrangements by Blackburn Chapel- Martin Funeral Home.

Harold Jostock
Died: Wednesday, September 04, 2002
Age: 66

Grayling

Harold Jostock, 66, of Grayling, died Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2002) at Grayling Hospital.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Ingamells of Pontiac; brother, John Jostock of Lapeer; Lloyd (Judy) Arms of Lapeer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John (Viola) Jostock; and three brothers, Donald, Wayne and Norman Jostock.
There will be no memorial or funeral service.

Dorothy Elaine Hutchinson
Died: Wednesday, September 04, 2002
Age: 69

Dorothy Elaine Hutchinson, 69, of Imlay City, died Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2002) at her daughter's home.
She was born November 12, 1932, in Pontiac, to Homer and Nora (Prutow) Owen.
She lived most of her life in Imlay City. She graduated from Imlay City High School in 1950. She had been employed by Kingsman/-Hamill/-Firestone-TRW for 32 years before retiring in 1994. She loved to sew quilts, pillows, gifts and mending.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Robert) Covey of North Branch and Kathy (John) Cline of Attica; son, Dennis (Joy) Hutchinson of Midland; grandchildren, Aaron (Rachel) Hutchinson, Chad Mesecar, Kelly Murphy, Brandon Mesecar, Sean Cline, Ben Murphy, Malissa Covey and Shannon Cline; brothers, Keith Owen of Imlay City and Donald Owen of Sandusky; and sisters, Velma Bush of Imlay City, Wilma Wilson of Tawas, Shirley Owen of Imlay City, Donna Lipka of Imlay City and Betty Halligan of New Lothrop.
She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Shawn Michael.
Memorial contributions may be made to Family Life Radio, 510 E. Isabella, Midland, MI 48640.
Funeral services were Saturday (Sept. 7, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Thomas Blount officiated. Burial was in Dryden Center cemetery, Dryden.
