Ruth Anna Baxter, 85, of Lapeer, died Friday (Aug. 9, 2002) at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
She was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Vassar, to Jacob and Esther (Harington) Racknor.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Clarence) Hurd, Vondalee LaCroix and Leila (Lemule) Childers; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Montgomery; and son-in-law, Orvin Montgomery.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 10, 2002) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Peter DeKlerk officiated. Burial was in Stiles cemetery, Lapeer.

Lela M. Watson

Lapeer

Lela M. Watson, 85, of Lapeer (formerly of Lum), died Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002).
She was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Lapeer, to William and Ina (Gardner) Lake. She married Delbert "Del" Watson in Lum on Oct. 14, 1935.
She was a clerk at the Gamble Store many years ago. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers.She was a member of the Calvary Bible Church.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Diane) Watson of Grand Blanc and Delbert "Bud" (Jan) Watson of Zephyrhills, Fla.; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wilma Watson of Tecumseh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert "Del" Watson in 2002; daughter, Susan Kay Watson; granddaughter, Sheryldene Hartfelder; brother, Louis Lake; sister, Mabel Moore; and her parents.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 10) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Arnold Bracy officiated. Burial was in Goodland Township cemetery.

Vivienne E. Rowden
Died: Thursday, August 08, 2002
Age: 84

Lapeer

Vivienne E. Rowden, 84, of Lapeer, died Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002) at home with her family.
She was born July 16, 1918, in Columbiaville, to Harold and Ruth Pettit. She married Desnoyer "Jack" Rowden in Columbiaville on Sept. 15, 1940.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lapeer and enjoyed 50 years working in the church toddler department.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Ron) Demerly of Lapeer; son, John (Debi) Rowden of Davison; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Loa) Pettit; and a sister, Dorothy (Paul) Horton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Desnoyer "Jack" Rowden in February 1998.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lapeer.
Funeral services were Monday (Aug. 12, 2002) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Revs. David G. Hill officiated and Jeff Demerly officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery, Lapeer.

Virginia Elizabeth Kelley
Died: Tuesday, August 06, 2002
Age: 74

Virginia Elizabeth Kelley, 74, of Flint (formerly of West Virginia), died Aug. 6, 2002.
She was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Cedar Grove, W. Va., to William and Ossie (Beverly) Dicken. She married Willard Kelly.
She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her garden. She was a baby sitter in her own home.
She is survived by her children, John (Victoria) Kelley of North Branch, Thomas (Linda) Kelley of Lindside, W. Va., Patsy Sawning of Portsmouth, Va., and Susan (Richard) Burkett of Flint; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Albert (Jean) Dicken of Peterstown, W. Va.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willard Kelley; parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place.

Danny M. Drexler
Died: Monday, August 05, 2002
Age: 52

Lapeer

Danny M. Drexler, 52, of Lapeer (formerly of Tennessee), died Aug. 5, 2002 at Hurley Hospital, Flint, after a long illness.
He was born March 17, 1950, in Riverside, Calif., to Wenzel Sr. and Devene (Anderson) Drexler.
He served 29 years in the Army with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Ky., and five years in Germany. He spent three tours of duty in Vietnam and was also in Operation Desert Storm. He retired in 1995 with the rank of sergeant major. During his military career his accomplishments included the Army Achievement Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Army Commendation Medal (fifth award), Army Good Conduct Medal (ninth award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star (BSS), Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (third award), Overseas Service Bar (third award), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Unit Citation with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Saudi Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Government of Kuwait, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge and Driver and Mechanic Badge. His hobby was fishing in his retirement years.
He is survived by his daughters, Stacey (Erik) Dahl of Rochester Hills, Katie and Amy both of Clarksville, Tenn.; his mother, Devene Drexler of Romeo; and brother, David (Rita) of Metamora.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Fellowship Building Fund.
Funeral services were Friday (Aug. 9, 2002) at Grace Lutheran Fellowship of Romeo. The Rev. Lynn Witt officiated. Burial was in Roseland Park cemetery, Berkley.

Shirley Jean Klauka

Shirley Jean Klauka, 60, of Columbiaville (formerly of Lapeer), died Monday (Aug. 5, 2002).
She was born June 23, 1942, in Detroit, to Robert and Beulah (Alt) Pluff. She married Floyd Klauka at the Deerfield Church of Christ on Aug. 19, 1979.
She was a nurse's aid at several different nursing facilities in the area until more recently when she did home care for family and friends. She was a member of the Deerfield Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Klauka of Columbiaville; step-children, Floyd "Skip" (Debbie) Klauka Jr. of Maryland, Connie (Scott) Barns of North Branch and Marne (Joe) Harding of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; mother, Beulah Pluff of Lapeer; sisters, Betty (William) Case of Clifford, Janet (Robert) Gould of Lapeer and Gayle (Ken) Bryant of Lapeer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Pluff in 1983.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Deerfield Church of Christ Air Conditioning Fund.
Visitation was Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002) at Deerfield Church of Christ. The Rev. Paul St. Louis will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Columbiaville.

Joyce Withey

Lapeer

Joyce Withey, 60, of Lapeer (formerly of North Branch), died Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002).
She was born Nov. 26, 1941, in North Branch, to Warren and Vivian (Scrimger) Crawford. She married Richard Withey at the North Branch Methodist Church on Oct. 1, 1960.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Sheywas an office manager at the County Press for seven years. She was a member of North Branch United Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Withey of Lapeer; children, Dan (Kathleen) Withey of Clarkston, Kevin (Kelly) Withey of Lapeer and Michelle (Sean) Roemhild of Lapeer; grandchildren, Samantha, Aaron, Noah, Conner and Brooklyn; mother, Vivian Crawford of North Branch; and two sisters, Janet Crawford of Lapeer and Dorothy (James) Hall of Milan, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Richelle Faye Withey; and father, Warren Crawford in 1989.
Memorial contributions may be made to LACADA.
Visitation was Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Steve Fletcher will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn cemetery, North Branch.

Judy Holly, 69, of Mount Morris and Davison, died Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville, Ky.
She was born Oct. 4, 1932, to Ellis Gordon and Belva (Hoover) Renfrow.
She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Holly of Davison; sons, Barry Westerfield of Washington State, Bobby Westerfield of Defiance, Ohio, Steven Westerfield of Lapeer and Robby Holly of Sacramento, Calif.; step-son, Christopher Holly of Bloomington, Ind.; daughters, Susan Strump of Lapeer, Kelly McCully of Imlay City, Kerry Waters of Wheaton, Ill., and Judy Toutant of Clarkston; step-daughter, Demetra Holly of Northboro, Mass.; mother, Belva Hoover Renfrow of Russellville, Ky.; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis Gordon Renfrow.
Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday (Aug. 9, 2002) at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison. Burial will be in St. John cemetery, Davison.
