Pauline Woodard, 86, of Lapeer (formerly of Tennessee and Hazel Park), died Sunday (July 7, 2002).
She was born July 26, 1915, in Fayette County, Ala., to William and Ida (Ellis) Blackburn. She married Floyd Woodard.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a great cook and enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was a member of the Lapeer Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Betty) Woodard of Lapeer and Linda Boren of Lapeer; grandchildren, Barbara McCown, Michael Woodard, Leslie Conney and Steven Boren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Woodard in 1985; siblings, William Blackburn and Vaudean Lowery; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Michigan Christian Youth Camp.
Funeral services were Wednesday (July 10, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Stephen Ennis will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel cemetery, Troy.

JoReba Oates

Lapeer

JoReba Oates, 83, Lapeer (formerly of Pontiac), died Sunday (July 7, 2002).
She was born April 20, 1919, in Jefferson, Mo., to John and Edith (Rupert) Brewer. She married Olan Coyce Oates.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She worked a number of years for Orchard Lake Country Club.
She is survived by her sons, Connie (Georgia) Oakes of Lapeer and Ray (Pam) Oates of Florida; son-in-law, Richard Dalby; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and brother, Rupert Brewer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Olan C. Oates; daughter, Shirley Dalby in 1999; brother, Richard Brewer; and her parents.
Visitation wasWednesday (July 10, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday (July 11, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Peter DeKlerk will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel cemetery, Troy.

Dorland Laur
Died: Sunday, July 07, 2002
Age: 75

Lapeer

"Bud" Dorland Laur, 75, of Lapeer, died Sunday (July 7, 2002).
He was born April 25, 1927, in North Branch, to Eric and Georgena (Ralph) Laur. He married Rencie Schafer in Lapeer on Oct. 11, 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army, playing semi-professional football for the Army.When he returned to Lapeer, he worked as a press operator at Fisher Body, a division of General Motors, retiring in 1980 after 32 years. He and other family members built the Laur home out of a barn they dismantled. He actually won the two acres the house sits on in a poker hand. He was always helping friends remodel their homes. He was also known to be the master hunter of all species. He enjoyed trap shooting, attending feather parties and playing cards.
He is survived by his children, Georgena (Dennis) Qualls of Lapeer, Delrel Laur of Lapeer and Mark (Christine Hoffman) Laur of Columbiaville; son-in-law, Edward Kozlow of Mio; special friend, Martha Holmes; grandchildren, Chad Nelson, Zachary Qualls, Sean Qualls, Eric Kozlow, Nathan Robinson, Cody, Justin, Douglas and Renci Laur; great-grandchildren, Darren and Calvin Robinson; siblings, Ward (Bev) Laur of North Branch and Bonnie Schoenbeck of Florida; and lifelong friends, Dison and Debbie Richie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rencie Laur in January 2000; daughter, Barteen Kozlow in August 2001; sister, Maxine Gatchell; and infant brother, Douglas Laur.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice.
Funeral services were Wednesday (July 10, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Ed Gates officiated. Burial will be in the Rich Township cemetery.

Amelia Kitchen
Died: Sunday, July 07, 2002
Age: 63

North Branch

Amelia "Amy" Kitchen, 63, of North Branch, died Sunday (July 7, 2002) at her home.
She was born April 28, 1939, in Detroit, to William and Dorothy (Bulley) Johnstone. She married Larry Kitchen on Feb. 19, 1959, in Pontiac.
Sheattended Clifford United Methodist Church, volunteered at the North Branch Thrift Shop, was a member of the Clifford Quilting Group and a 4-H leader in California. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, painting and was a master gardener.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; sons, Raymond (Glynis) of Lapeer, Russell of Altus, Okla., and Chris (Nicole) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandchildren, Torie, Clayton, Jonathan, Amy Marie, Madison and Benjamin; sister, Donna (Rodger) Gunter of Toquerville, Utah; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; other family members, George and Nancy Thomas and Jerry and Pinky Kitchen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Visitation was Wednesday (July 10, 2002) and 10-11 a.m. Thursday (July 11, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (July 11, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch.The Rev. Dave Pratt will officiate. Burial will be in West Burlington cemetery, Silverwood.

Raymond Moen
Died: Saturday, July 06, 2002
Age: 72

Lapeer

Raymond "Papa" Moen, 72, of Lapeer, died Saturday (July 6, 2002) at home.
He was born Feb. 28, 1930. He married Gale Connors on Aug. 7, 1953.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Buick after 34 years of service and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 599. He trained and raced standard bred horses under Moen Stables Inc. He was a Michigan Harness Horseman mMember and an avid bowler in the Flint area for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Gale; son, Bruce; grandchildren, Cei-Anna, Lindsay, Chris, Tyler and Chayna; brother, Richard Moen; and sister, Virginia Macey.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Barry and Brad, in 1998.
Funeral services were Tuesday (July 9, 2002) at Allen Funeral Home, Davison. The Rev. Robert Taylor officiated. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, Elba.

Jean M. McCrory

Jean M. McCrory, 74, of Fostoria, died Saturday (July 6, 2002) at home.
She was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Silverwood, to George and Leota (Stanton) Fox. She married George McCrory on July 27, 1946, in Lapeer.
She has resided in Fostoria for 54 years. She retired from Caro Regional Center after 26 years of service as an attendant nurse. She loved genealogy, cooking, grandchildren and family get-togethers. She was a member of the West Deerfield United Methodist Church and Womens Guild, Mayville Historical Museum and Daughters of American Revolution.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Donald) Strauel of Lapeer, Cathy (Michael) Baber of Fostoria and Kevin (Jaquita) McCrory of Fostoria; daughter-in-law, Margo McCrory of Skidway Lake; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Nellie (Lawrence) Ihrke of Mayville; brother, Vern (Joyce) Fox of Grayling; sisters-in-law, Mildred Jankowske of Otisville and Jane McCrory of Ortonville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1981; son, Ronald in 1999; and great-granddaughter, Chantel Cargill in 1993.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Cancer Society or the family discretionary fund.
Visitation was Wednesday (July 10, 2002) at West Deerfield United Methodist Church. Funeral services wereWednesday (July 10, 2002) at the West Deerfield United Methodist Church.The Revs. Don Fairchild and David Rahn officiated. Burial was in the West Deerfield cemetery.

Helen Ann Horton

Goodrich

Helen Ann Horton, 81, of Goodrich, died Friday (July 5, 2002).
She was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Flint.
She lived her early years in Oregon and Washington. At the age of 11, she drove her dad and herself to Michigan and spent most of her adult life in Goodrich. After retiring from the Redi-Mix business and the Goodrich Area Schools, as a bus driver for 26 years, she spent time traveling, visiting with good friends, china painting, quilting and loving her daughters and their families.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara Jean (Thomas) Lindley of Goodrich, Joann Elaine Brigham of Goodrich, Dona Marie (Joseph) Kyle of Goodrich and Denise Maureen (Larry) Hentkowski of Marietta, Ohio; grandchildren, Bradley (Colleen) Brigham, Thomas (Michele) Lindley, Jr., Trudy (Blair) Simcox, Melinda (Michael) Balian, Sara and Michael Kyle, and Ryan and Kendra Hentkowski; great grandchildren, Samantha and Sean Brigham, Brandon Lindley, McKenna and John Balian, and Grant Simcox; special friends and relatives, Dona M. O'Brien, Margaret McNew, Vio Moreau, Marguerite Osborne, Phyllis Gundersen and many Cronin cousins in the Lapeer area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; great grandchildren, Morgan and Reese Simcox; and son-in-law, Aaron G. Brigham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Goodrich High School band or the Goodrich High School girls' athletic program.
Funeral services were Tuesday (July 9, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home In Lapeer. The Rev. Gary McInnes officiated. Burial was in New Calvary Catholic cemetery in Flint.

Marvin R. Bigelow
Died: Thursday, July 04, 2002
Age: 73

North Branch

Marvin R. Bigelow, 73, of North Branch, died Thursday (July 4, 2002) at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Flint, to Avery and Iva (Wiggins) Bigelow. He married Helen Anderson in Beulah.
They celebrated 51 precious years of marriage. He and his family owned and operated Bigelow Berry Farm and Greenhouse for 38 years. Before starting the family business, he owned and operated the Marlette Mobil Gas Station for two years and the North Branch Gulf Station for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the North Branch Methodist Church, North American Strawberry Grower Association and past president of the North Branch school board. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Wayne (Diane) of Augres, Eric (Laura) of North Branch; grandchildren, Lindsay and Bryan Bigelow; brother, Clarence (Bonnie) Bigelow of Ohio; mother-in-law, Clara Anderson of Flint; sisters-in-law, Melba (David) Sarchett of Flint and Janet Summerfield of Flint; nieces, Becky, Julie and Marlee; and nephews, Tim, Dennis and Gary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Verda.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Branch Methodist Church Building Fund or the McLaren Hospice.
Funeral services were Monday (July 8, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. The Revs. Wayne Ferrigan and Mary Tame officiated. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery, North Branch.
