Helen Marjorie Kennedy

Bradenton, Fla.

Helen Marjorie Kennedy, 81, of Bradenton, Fla. (formerly of Lapeer), died Tuesday (March 11, 2002).
She was born July 11, 1920, in Ann Arbor, to Clarence and Sara Hayward.
She spent her early life on a farm in Almont Township. She was employed at A.C. Spark Plug in Flint, retiring in 1972. She later moved to Bradenton, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Milton) Ott of Fairview; one son, Douglas (Barbara) of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Dawn Downing of Fairview, Marjorie McDonald and John Kennedy of Sarasota, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Loni Rae Schroeder, Christopher and Amanda Barsel, Collin and Ella Kennedy; and a half-sister, Patricia Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; foster brother, Wendell Hayward; and half-brother, Wendell Fultz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Lapeer.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at Grace Episcopal Church, Lapeer. The Rev. Steve Dewey will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Steven C. Hambey
Died: Sunday, March 10, 2002
Age: 80

Burton

Steven C. Hambey, 80, of Burton, died March 10, 2002, at Genesys Health Park.
He moved to Michigan in 1953 from Alabama. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Arkansas and the USS Independence. He loved to work in his garden, fishing and the outdoors.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley J. (John) Harvey; sons, Kenneth R. (Connie), James C. (Lauretta); sister, Cora Garner; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and RoseAnna Hambey; his wife, Ollie Hambey; son, Lee; sisters, Eva Callaway, Winell Mooney; and 2 brothers, William and Hullit.
Funeral services were March 13, 2002 at Hill Funeral Home, Grand Blanc. The Rev. Joel Caminti officiated. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Grand Blanc.
Arrangements by Hill Funeral Home, Grand Blanc.

Osborn Stickney Cox
Died: Sunday, March 10, 2002
Age: 86

Long Beach, Calif.

Lt. Col. Osborn Stickney Cox , 86, of Long Beach Calif. (formerly of Lapeer), died March 10, 2002.
He was born in Redlands, Calif., to Joseph and Mary Cox of Lapeer. He married his beloved wife, Virginia, 59 years ago.
He grew up on the family farm in Lapeer and attended Lapeer High School. After graduation from Michigan State University in 1938, he continued his engineering studies and became a licensed mechanical engineer for the state of Michigan. He worked for Keeler Brass in Grand Rapids and A.C. Spark Plug G.M.C., Flint. He was a career Army officer who served overseas during World War II and in the Korean War. Following Pearl Harbor, he served in the forgotten war on the Island of Amchitka in the Aleutian islands, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. At the end of World War II he returned to work at A.C. Spark Plug for five more years until recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict, where he served in the Ordnance Corps. His overseas assignments included three years in Japan and one year in Korea. He was awarded the Legion of Merit. In 1967 he retired from the Army, but continued in work as a mechanical engineer with Hughes Tool Company until 1973. He and his wife, Virginia, retired to the Vista, Calif., ranch where they lived for nearly 30 year. He was president of the local camera club and commodore of the Santa Margarita Sailing Club. He often sailed the Odyssey, his Columbia 30 sailboat, to Catalina Island and in the waters near San Diego. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, serving many years as an usher. He joined the Carlsbad Genealogical Society and Sons of the American Revolution, tracing the family tree back to the American Revolution. With the joy of farming in his genes, he took advantage of Vista's temperate climate to grow limes, avocados, macadamia nuts, cheramoyas and chestnut sapotes.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, William O. (Therese) of Savannah, Ga.; daughter, Debra L. (Michael) Keller of Long Beach, Calif; nieces, Mary and Jo Anna; nephews, Tom and James; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
A memorial service in Long Beach is being planned.

Daniel Jason Kida
Died: Sunday, March 10, 2002

Daniel Jason Kida, 31, of Hazel Park (formerly of Imlay City and Brown City), died Sunday (March 10, 2002) at home.
He was born Feb. 25, 1971, in Marlette, to Joseph and Carol (Jones) Kida.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Carol Kida of Imlay City; brothers, David (Susan) Kida of Elizabeth, Colo. and Scott Kida of Denver, Colo.; sister, Kathleen (Mark) Stine of North Branch.
Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Thursday (March 14, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Friday (March 15, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Burial will be in Imlay Township cemetery, Imlay City.
Arrangements by Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.

Keith E. Rayl
Died: Sunday, March 10, 2002
Age: 52

Almont

Keith E. Rayl, 52, of Almont, died Sunday (March 10, 2002) at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 27, 1950, in Flint, to Arnold and Mattie (Dean) Rayl. He married Carolyn Werth at their home in Almont on Dec. 31, 1999.
He was the Community Manger of Kingsbrook Estates in Almont. His true enjoyment came from farming and raising buffalo at their farm, Twin Oaks Buffalo Farm in Capac.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; parents, Arnold and Mattie Rayl of Almont; children, Bonnie (John) Byington of Churchill, Tenn., Connie (John) Guntle of Big Stone Gap, Va., Peter (Mary) Rayl of Dryden, Elda (John) Neville of Capac and Julie Schell of Capac; grandchildren, Jonathan Guntle, Arnold Rayl, Elizabeth Rayl, Crystal Rayl, John J. Neville, Amanda Schell, Tommy Schell and Samantha Ruth; brothers, Francis Rayl of Allenton and Arland (Patsy) Rayl of Almont; mother-in-law, Lois Stern of Capac; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jim (Nancy) Schuneman and Lee Werth; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; sisters-in-law, Judy Rayl and Judy Werth; brother-in-law, Danny Werth.
Visitation was Wednesday (March 13, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont.
Funeral services were Thursday (March 14, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. The Rev. Larry Rieck of the First Congregational Church of Almont officiated. Burial was in Richards cemetery, Richmond.

Jenkin Jones
Died: Saturday, March 09, 2002
Age: 70

Metamora

Jenkin Jim Jones, 70, of Metamora, died March 9, 2002.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the auto industry in 1998. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and thought of daily.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Judith; sons, Ronald (Nina) and Eric; daughters, Michelle, Cheryl (Donald) Palmer and Judi (Greg) Scholl; and grandchildren, Christi, Stacey, Stephanie, Derek, Clayton and Colton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven.
A memorial service was held at Wessels and Wilk Funeral Home, Pleasant Ridge.

Barbara Maude Dickinson

Barbara Maude Dickinson, 80, of Gladwin, died Saturday (March 9, 2002) at Mid Michigan Medical Center, Gladwin.
She was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Gladwin, to Albert and Edith (Easlick) Bruner. She married Jesse Dickinson on March 10, 1946.
She is survived by her daughters, Adelia (Robert) Folts of Gladwin, Barbara Blaine of Gladwin, Ellen Bush of Fowlerville, Florence of East Tawas, Kathryn (Roger) Badgley of Columbiaville, Susan (Kenneth) Sternberg of Bad Axe, Emma Powell of Gladwin, Sadie of Fairbanks, Alaska, Rose Blaisedell of Mount Morris, Charlotte (Wade) Haggie of Livonia; sons, Stephen of Howell and Sam of Howell; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, David (Bessie) Bruner of Gladwin, Dan Bruner of Gladwin, Delbert (Opal) Bruner of Gladwin; sister, Marian (Harley) Bourlier of Gladwin; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Dickinson in 1989; and her parents.
Memorial contribuitons may be made to the Gladwin Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral services were Tuesday (March 12, 2002) at Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin. The Rev. Mark Boyce officiated. Burial was in Eastwood Memorial Gardens, Davison.
