Walter William Podpora, 83, of Columbiaville, died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002) at Select Specialty Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1918, in Flint.
He graduated from Flint Northern High School. He served as a staff sergeant in the 59th Bomber Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II serving in the Caribbean and later in Alamogordo, N.M. He served a short time as a Michigan State Police trooper and retired from General Motors Plant Protection in 1974 after 32 years of service. He was a life member of Dom Polski, a member of PLAV 8, The American Legion, The 40 et 8, The Veterans of Foreign Wars and The Elks.
He is survived by his son, Kevin (Ada); daughter, Karen Jean (Daniel Allen) Hull; grandchildren, Walter, Leslie Hull, Lidia, Johnathan and Natasha; sister, Bernice Ludwig.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Florence Jean Podpora and Donnas B. Podpora.
Memorial contributions may be made to the 40 et 8 Nurses Training Fund, in care of Voiture 1536 P.O. Box 61, Lapeer, MI 48446.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will occur later at Sunset Hills cemetery.

Josephine Haddrill

Hadley
Josephine Jo Haddrill, 82, of Hadley, died Jan. 31, 2002.
She was born Nov. 2, 1919, to John and Victoria (Chmidt) Miller. She married Harold Haddrill in Nepoleon, Ohio, on July 30, 1938.
Jo was a resident of Hadley since 1939. She was an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church, where she also served on the Evangelism Board for a number of years. She enjoyed gardening, eating healthy, she even ate fish every day for nearly 30 years. She helped Harold raise chickens for a few years. Jo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Haddrill of Hadley; sons, Jerald (special friend, Norma) Haddrill of Rochester, Richard Haddrill of Rochester, Dale (Debbie) Haddrill of Hadley; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Finch of Livonia.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Olga Haddrill on Jan 24, 2002; parents; brothers, Robert Miller, John Miller, Frederick Miller and Ed Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
A memorial service was held Feb. 3, 2002 at Christ Lutheran Church, Hadley. Pastor John Schreiber officiated.

Tena M. Tidrick, 24, of Columbiaville, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002).
She was born May 17, 1977, in Lapeer, to Larry Warner and Laurene (Thompson) Warner. She married Stephen Tidrick in Dryden on Oct. 11, 1997.
She was a life time Lapeer area resident. She was a very energetic, positive person. She enjoyed collecting porcelain angels, all animals, needle point, playing cards and reading. She loved and was loved, by children, she even enjoyed being a tutor for many of them. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister and aunt who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Tidrick of Columbiaville; step-son, Andrew Tidrick of Brown City; parents, Laurene Warner of Columbiaville and Larry (Joan) Warner of Lapeer; in-laws, Christine (James) Archer of Deford and Bob Tidrick of Ann Arbor; Siblings, Rebecca (Dwayne) Burda of Lapeer, Patricia (Robert) Svoboda of West Branch, Lee Warner Jr. of Mount Morris and Austin Warner of Columbiaville; step-sister, Paula Everson of Dexter; nieces, Alyssa, Jamie, Chrissy, Holly, Roshelle, Cassey, Katlyin and Robyn.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Funeral services were Saturday (Feb. 2, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Don Hadley officiated.

Dorothy L. FitzGerald

Roseburg, Ore.
Dorothy L. FitzGerald, 89, of Roseburg, Ore., died Jan. 30, 2002.
She was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Detroit, to Jay and Cornelia (Pennel) Smith.
She was a graduate of Pontiac Central High School and the Pontiac Business Institute. She worked as a professional secretary for American Forge and Socket, Lazell Insurance and Dr. Hannes. She lived 35 years in Drayton Plains before moving to Oregon in 1973. She served many years in her retired life as a Pink Lady at the Mercy Hospital in Roseburg.
She is survived by her children, Lewis J. (Wilma) of Ariz., Letitia Tish FitzGerald of Ark.; brothers, Dr. Donald S. Smith of Minn., Lester Smith of Davisburg; grandchildren, Michael, Thomas, Karyn, Kris; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002) at Ottawa Park cemetery, Waterford. Burial will take place next to her husband.

Emma J. Klein

Emma J. Klein, 100, of Lapeer (formerly of Atlanta, Hillman area), died Jan. 30, 2002.
She was born Feb. 20, 1901, in Lima, Ohio, to Charles and Mary (McClure) Pierce.
She was a member of the Hillman Garden Club, she managed the Gilchrist Cabins, was a teacher in a one room school house for a couple of years and even drove Army trucks off the GMC Truck and Coach assembly line during WorldWar II. She enjoyed sewing, she also made beautiful quilts. She enjoyed playing cards and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church while in Lapeer.
She is survived by her daughters, Gerry Roberts of Lapeer, Emogene (Al) Kukuk of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Virgil; 8 siblings; parents; and former husband, Niel W. Klein.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 735 W. Nepessing, Lapeer 48446.
Funeral services were Saturday (Feb. 2, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Father Steven Dewey officiated. Burial was in Hillman cemetery, Hillman.

Floy Janice Alschbach

Bellaire
Floy Janice Alschbach, 76, of Bellaire (formerly of Lapeer, Oxford and Pleasant Ridge), died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002).
She was born March 16, 1925, in Bellaire, to John Jack and Lottie (Corey) Clyde. She married David Alschbach in Ferndale on June 15, 1946.
A 1942 Bellaire High School graduate, she earned a bachelor's degree in music from Hillsdale College in 1946. She did graduate work at Oakland University. For many years she gave piano lessons in her home. She was a past member of Metropolitan Methodist Church in Detroit. Her interest ranged from music, gardening and writing poetry to skiing, golfing and tennis. It was her great desire to move back to Bellaire, Which she achieved in October 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Jr. and Robert; and her sister, Enid Morey in 2001.
She is survived by her husband, David; brother, Max (Connie) Clyde of Lauden, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Bruce Morey of Manchester, N.J.; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

A private funeral service was Sunday (Feb. 3, 2002) at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. The Rev. Mary Brown officiated. Burial will take place in the spring at Lakeview cemetery, Bellaire. A memorial musical celebration of her life will be held in the spring at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church.

Laverne A. Shoemaker

Brown City
Laverne A. Shoemaker, 83, of Brown City, died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002).
He was born April 10, 1918, in Maple Valley Township, Sanilac County, to Addison and Ada Shoemaker. He married Gladys Muxlow in Brown City on May 8, 1943.
He was a life long resident and farmer. He operated a dairy farm for many years and then crop farmed. He enjoyed fishing, especially on many trips to Canada, going to Alaska and snowmobling. He attended Fellowship Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; sons, Dennis (Sue) and Thomas; 2 grandchildren, Trent and Justin.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan McNary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marlette Hospice or the Fellowship Bible Church.
Funeral services were Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at Fellowship Bible Church. Pastor Richard Black officiated.

Verna Miller

Verna Miller, 84, of North Branch (formerly of Oxford), died Sunday (Jan. 27, 2002) at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
She was born July 17, 1917, in Oxford, to Frank and Jennie (Ward) Nique. She married Paul Miller in Oxford on Dec. 25, 1944.
She grew up in Thomas, and attended school there. She was a homemaker, a member of the North Branch United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the Macbees. She enjoyed collecting owls and antiques.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Lee) Roberts of Carrollton, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul on Jan. 22, 1997.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Suncrest Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held 5-9 p.m., Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch. The Rev. Wayne Ferrigan will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Oakwood.
