Arletta Bell Howey, 78, of Attica, died Friday (Nov. 9, 2001) at McLaren Hospital, Flint.
She was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Romeo, to James and Clara (Haber) Barton.
Alretta was a Charter Member of the Lapeer Church of God. She loved giving hugs to everyone. She also enjoyed Garage Sales and playing musical instruments. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Arthur) Wildey of Attica, James E. of Attica, Kenneth of North Branch and Loretta D. Lee of Muskegon; grandchildren, Tony, Tim, Kim, Shannon, Darci, Jamie and Patrick; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dillion, Cassi and Cora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janet; and brother Clifford Barton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy's Town.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2001) at the Lighthouse Church of God. Pastor Edward Chandler officiated. Burial was in Stiles cemetery, Lapeer.

Viola B. 'Ginger' Lund

Viola B. Ginger Lund, 74, of Metamora (also of Summerfield, Fla.), died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001).
She was born March 30, 1927, in Clarkston, to Rolland and Emily (Donalson) Lund.
Ginger excelled at softball, golf and bowling. She enjoyed family gatherings, travel, fishing, hunting, drawing, painting and crafts. Ginger retired in 1970 from Fisher Body in Livonia. She will be missed by many friends in Florida and Michigan.
She is survived by her brothers, Eugene (Millie) of North Carolina, Kenneth (Diane) of Mio, David (Nancy) of California; companion of 43 years, Grace Bjork; she was a beloved aunt and grand-aunt and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Emily Lund; siblings, Nancy, Doris Wesener, Ronald, Clare, Robert; grandmother, Edith Wilets Donalson, of the Ojibwa Nation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Cremation has taken place.

Lola Mae Arbaugh

Lola Mae Arbaugh, 92, of Lapeer, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Briarwood Nursing Home, Burton.
She was born Aug. 5, 1909, in Birch Run. She married Clyde Arbaugh on Sept. 20, 1930.
She was a homemaker. Lola enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and playing cards. She will be greatly missed by her children.
She is survived by her children, Judy Smith of Lapeer and Patricia (Rick) Johnson of Brutus; granddaughters, Kristine (Dale) Knowlton of Missouri, Renee (John) Larson of Flint and Peggy Smith of Davison; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Brittany, Aaron, Jameson, Logan and Noelle; brothers, Harvey Powell of Lapeer and Howard (Myrtle) Powell of Mio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in 1995.
Funeral services were held Saturday (Nov. 10, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Rev. Todd Smith officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Stanley J. Lipka

Stanley J. Lipka, 84, of Marlette, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Marlette Community Hospital, Marlette.
He was born June 14, 1917, in Alger, Joseph and Anna (Gubernat) Lipka.
He married Viola Howay in Lapeer on Dec. 26, 1953.
Mr. Lipka farmed in the North Branch area until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the Michigan Milk Producers Association and Lapeer County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Viola; sons, Ronald (Kathy) Hicks of Columbiaville, Gary (Theresa) of Marlette; daughter, Sherry (David) Moran of Metamora; sister, Eleanore Wasilewski of North Branch; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Bruman; brothers, Walter and Frank; sister, Genevieve Markwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday (Nov. 10, 2001) at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marlette. Fr. Richard Bokinskie officiated. Burial was in St. Elizabeth cemetery, Marlette.

Dorothy Irene Stover

Dorothy Irene Stover, 86, of Kings Mill, died Nov. 7, 2001, at Ferguson Convalescent Home.
She was born March 15, 1915, in Lum, to Elmer and Lottie (Houghtaling) Rowley. She married Jeremy Stover in 1936.
Dorothy retired from Lapeer Regional Hospital as a housekeeper. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, knitting and traveling.
She is survived by her son, Tom (Barbara) of Kings Mill; daughter, Naomi Iglesias of Arizona; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Ivan (Minnie) Rowley of Florida; sister, Elizabeth Mosher of Michigan; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremy, in 1993; brother, Myron Rowley.
Funeral Services were held Saturday (Nov. 10, 2001) at Blackburn Chapel. Pastor Dale Parson officiated. Burial was in Lum cemetery.

Royce G. Nicholas

Royce G. Nick Nicholas, 77, of Lapeer, died Nov. 7, 2001.
He was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Cedar Vale, Kan., to Vern and Gladys (King) Nicholas. He married Winona Herring in Lima, Ohio on Nov. 24, 1948.
Mr. Nicholas served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Medical Aide in China, Burma and India, receiveing two bronze stars. He was a graduate of Ohio Northern University and Ohio State School of Medical Technology. Royce was the Director of the Medical Laboratory at Lapeer County General Hospital, Knollwood Clinic and years ago at Lima Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1990 after 40 years. He was a member of the American Society of Medical Technology, National Certification of Laboratory Personnel, Michigan Society of Medical Technicians, President for two years and the American Society of Blood Banks. Nick enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and football games.
He is survived by his wife, Winnie of Lapeer; children, Marcia Braidwood of West Branch, Steven (Sue) of Indian River, Michael (Sharon) of Chouteau, Okla., Daniel (Patti) of Battle Creek, Cheryl (Joseph) Ross of Millington; grandchildren, Kyle, Mickey, Damon, Alex, Nicole, Matt, Taffeta, Cory, Danielle, Brian, Kristie, Jenni, Allison, Nicholas, Philip, Cody, Carrie, Olivia, Amanda, Sarah and Heidi; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Noah, Peyton and MacKenzie; siblings, Robert (Avis) of Sarasota, Fla., Margaret (Raldo) Hamburger of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Katie Sue, Benji; and his parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday (Nov. 10, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Father Doc Ortman officiated, with military honors under the auspices of Lapeer American Legion Post #16.

Sandra Kaye Green

Sandra Kaye Green, 37, of Lapeer, died Nov. 7, 2001.
She was born Nov. 10, 1963, in Metamora, to Frederick and Donna (Petibone) Dotson, Jr. She married Steven Green.
Sandra graduated from Lapeer East High School in 1981. She worked as a hairdresser right out of high school. She then attended Mott College and received her EMT Certification. Most recently, she worked as a unit clerk at Lapeer Regional Hospital. Sandra was very involved with her children's lives, particularly 4-H.
She is survived by her husband, Steven of Lapeer; children, Nathan and Allison both at home; parents, Fred and Donna (Petibone) Dotson, Jr. of Metamora; grandmother, Dora Dotson of Imlay City; siblings, Ken Mesecar of Lapeer, Greg Mesecar of Lapeer, Julia (Jim) Elliott of Metamora, Tracey (Russ) Fowler of Lapeer; parents-in-law, Merlin and Mary of Lapeer; special friends, Tracy and Leasa Sparks; special cousins, Charlene Castle and Kim Graham; many nieces and nephews and loving brothers and sisters-in-law on the Green family side.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

August E. Maasch

August E. Maasch, 58, of Memphis died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001).
He was born December 3, 1942, in Lapeer, to Ronald E. and Margaret M. (Sheffer) Maasch. He married Patricia Jean Otrompke in Memphis on July 8, 1995.
August was a cabinet maker. He owned and operated Maasch Custom Woodworking. He was a graduate of Lapeer High School, Class of 1962. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Merrick-Potter Post 566, in Memphis, and was the current commander of the post.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Ronli of Port Huron; step-children, Bonnie Gramer of Richmond and Todd Dolinski of Port Huron; brother, Ronald of Flint; sister Rose Schmedlen of Ellenton, Florida.
