Frank Edward Hamilton, 65, of Attica, died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001).

He was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Romeo, to Frank and Edrie Hamilton. He married Barbara Hampton in Imlay City on Nov. 24, 1971.

Frank grew up in Romeo. He worked for Lapeer Thumb Radiator and Avon Tube in Rochester Hills. Frank enjoyed motorcycling and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann; children, Terri (Kirt) West of Caro, Cheri (Steve) Danielson of Lapeer, Don of Flint, Eric (Sally) Wilson of Attica, Danny (Tammy) Wilson of Lapeer; mother-in-law, Lula Mae; sisters, Mary Jean Bentley of Romeo, Barbara Salamasilc of Sterling, Fran Weiner of Romeo; grandchildren, Erin, Shane, Michael, Nathan, Adam, Brian, Patrick and Erica; sisters-in-law, Frances (Hugh) Greenway of Missouri, Elizabeth (Earl) Presnell of Mayville, Loretta (Clarence) Douglas of North Branch, Glenda (Harry) Davis of Mayville, Namomi and Fay both of North Branch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Tiffany in Aug. 1997; and 6 brothers-in-laws.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McLaren Hospice.

Funeral services were held Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch. Rev. Whittenburg officiated. Burial was in Westlawn cemetery.

Leland "Stub" Hagemeister
Died: Monday, November 05, 2001
Age: 74

Mancelona

Leland Stub Hagemeister, 74, of Mancelona (formerly of Lapeer), died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001) at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

He was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Lum, to Floyd and Myrtle Hagemeister. He married Doris Hopp on Dec. 12, 1947.

Mr. Hagemeister was a World War II Veteran. He was a farmer and a Buick retiree of 30 years. After retirement Stub and Doris moved to Mancelona. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and camping on Lake Michigan, socializing and playing cards. He will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Susan Rachow of Saginaw, Linda (Doug) Monroe of Three Rivers; granddaughters, Stacy Rachow, Carrie Rachow, Julie Monroe-Stevenson, Lori Hart and Shelley Monroe; grandsons, Jeremy Curtis, Paul Hart and Eric Stevenson; great-grandsons, Christopher Rachow and Mason Hart; and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Myrtle; brothers, Basil and Linwood; sister, Theda; and granddaughter, Jennifer Monroe.

Memorial contributions may be made to your local Hospice Organization.

Funeral services were held Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer with a military graveside service under the auspices of the Lapeer American Legion Post 16 Honor Gaurd.

Thelma Mae Schmidtke
Died: Saturday, November 03, 2001

Clifford

Thelma Mae Schmidtke, 85, of Clifford (formerly of Lake Wales Fla. and Poway, Calif.) died Nov. 3, 2001.

She was born June 20, 1916, in Clifford, to Burt and Charlotte Lanway. She married Royal C. Schmidtke in Clifford on June 24, 1939.

Family, friends and neighbors are invited to the memorial service for Thelma M. Schmidtke.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at the Clifford United Methodist Church. A luncheon will be served following the service.

Clifford

Thelma Mae Schmidtke, 85, of Clifford (formerly of Lake Wales Fla. and Poway Calif.), died Nov. 3, 2001.

She was born June 20, 1916, in Clifford, to Burt and Charlotte Lanway. She married Royal C. Schmidtke in Clifford on June 24, 1939.

Thelma was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lapeer County Library Board, Clifford Methodist Church and Frostproof Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Kantz of Poway, Calif., Janet Hutchinson of Sarasota, Fla, Georgia White of Lapeer, Marjorie Peet of North Branch, Jeanne Taljonick of Davidson; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Homer Lanway of Clifford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal C. Schmidtke, in 1990.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at the Clifford Methodist Church, Clifford.

Bernard Christian Fick
Died: Saturday, November 03, 2001
Age: 78

Lapeer

Bernard Christian Bud Fick, 78, of Lapeer, died Nov. 3, 2001.

He was born Dec. 10, 1922, in Lapeer County, to Christian and Ethel (Davis) Fick. He married Marguerite Steward in Lapeer on June 6, 1942.

Mr. Fick was a lifelong resident of Lapeer County. He graduated from Lapeer High School. Bud served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a life member of the Lapeer American Legion Post #16. Bud worked for the Postal Service as a mail carrier for 9 years before becoming a local businessman. He owned and operated Lapeer Builders Supply (Redi-Mix) for many years. Mr. Fick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite of Lapeer; daughter, Mary (Ron) Snider of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandson, Matthew Bernard Snider of Eau Claire, Wis.; sister, Patricia (Jim) Fitzgerald of Lapeer; 1 cousin, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Ethel (Davis) Fick.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at The First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer. Rev. Todd Smith officiated. Burial was in Stiles cemetery, Lapeer.

Harold E. Doster
Died: Saturday, November 03, 2001
Age: 80

Imlay City

Harold E. Doster, 80, of Imlay City, died Nov. 3, 2001.

He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Kalamazoo, to Wilson and Evelyn (Metzger) Doster. He married Calra Toni Estern in Imlay City on Dec. 1, 1951.

Harold graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. He attended college at Kamamazoo College and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Michigan. Harold served in the U.S. Army and received the World War II Victory Medal. He worked for General Tire in Detroit, Vesley's in Lapeer and Formtec in Lapeer. He was a self-employed farmer in Imlay City. After retirement he continued to drive vehicles for X-plorer of Brown City and for Champion of Imlay City. He was a member of the Imlay City Eagles, running the Euchre nights. He was a Past President of the Imlay City Lions Club and a former Eastern Michigan Fair-board member.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Toni of Imlay City; sons, Anthony (Barbara) of Basking Ridge, N.J., Eric (Mary) of Mason; grandchildren, Alyssa, Nathan, Emily, Amanda, Erin and Amy; and God child, Megan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Evelyn Doster; son, Michael; and brother, Roland.

Shirley Elaine Combs

Shirley Elaine Combs, 77, of Lapeer, died Nov. 2, 2001 at McLaren Hospital, Flint.

She was born, Feb. 15, 1924, in Lapeer, to William and Bessie (Wixon) Coulter. She married Floyd Combs in Lapeer on Jan. 13, 1944.

Shirley was a member of the V.F.W. in Imlay City and thoroughly loved playing Bingo. The highlight of her life was a Caribbean Cruise she was taken on by her daughter Penny and she loved collecting frogs. She will be greatly missed by her family and special Bingo friends.

She is survived by her children, James (Alana) of Lapeer, Penny Verdier (friend, Bud) of Virginia, Kevin (Sandi) of Lapeer, Terry (Denise) of Lapeer; grandchildren, Steve (Dana), Amy, Brandon (Charity), Cameron (Craig), Juli, Alicia and Allison; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Dalton, Myrisa and Faith; brother, E.J. Coulter of Lovells, Peggy (Alvin) Jones of Lazurne; sisters-in-law, Rosie Brewer and Alberta Coulter; special cousins, Charlene Avenall of Almont, Nancy Knonwinski of Armada and Twila Mercer of Lapeer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Combs in 1995; brothers, Theo, Orlin and Nester Coulter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the Diabetes Foundation.

Funeral services were held Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Peter DeKlerk officiated. Burial was in Stiles cemetery.

Mary Sweet, 83, of Lapeer, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Genesys Health Park of Grand Blanc.

She was born March 24, 1918 to Vaso and Margaret (Novak) Lubich. She married Roy Wesley Sweet in Flint on Dec. 10, 1945.

She was a devoted wife and mother, whose life was her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Roy Vaso (Sue) of Millington, Alva Lee (Arlene) of Fowlerville, John Nelson (Debra) of Lapeer, Charles William (Brenda) of Lapeer, Robert Michael of Vanderbilt, Rebecca Ann Plummer of Davison and Michael (Cathy) Miller of Lapeer; grandchildren, Ty, Jamie, Denny, John (Erica), Mary (Tony), Mandy, Tom, Leila (Scott), Kim (Jim), Jodi (Dave), Michael Shane, Molly, Nate, Nanette, Francesca and Stephen; great grandchildren, TJ, Channing, Hadlee, Sayer, Kane, Isabella, Jack and Caleb; sisters, Emily Cummings of Fla., Stella Bandurski of Flint, Helen (Marion) Catracchia of Pa; brother-in-law, Jimmy Boyle of Pa.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wesley Sweet; parents, Vaso and Margaret (Novak) Lublich; sister Mildred Boyle; brothers, John and George Lubich.

Joyce G. Phelps

Joyce G. Phelps, 64, of Lapeer, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001).

She was born April 13, 1937, in Detroit, to Royce and Eva (Gay) Haley. She married Robert Phelps in Detroit on April 12, 1957.

She was an instructor at the Hairacy College of Cosmetology. She enjoyed being a member of the Prestige Club at Lapeer County Bank & Trust. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and daughter.

She is survived by her children, Holly (Kevin) Pickett of Lapeer, Christopher (Becky) of Attica, Amber (Joe) Toland of Rochester Hills; grandchildren, Steve, Haley, Joey, Messina, Jason, Melinda, Morgan, Isiah and William; father, Royce (Donna) Haley of Naples, Fla.; siblings, Patricia Lewis of Rochester Hills, Royce (Marilyn) Haley, Jr. of Casco and Kenneth (Donna) Haley of Mt. Clemens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Phelps; son, Robert Phelps Jr. in 1993; daughter, Eva Phelps in 1998 and mother, Eva M. Haley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Funeral services were held Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Patricia Lewis officiated.
